Seasons of Love // 4 Types of Intimacy

Type: Experiential Intimacy

Type: Intellectual Intimacy

Type: Emotional Intimacy

Type: Physical Intimacy

These 4 intimacies can all be viewed from a relationship to each other and should find strength from a relationship to Jesus Christ.

Read Song of Solomon 7:10-13

Type: Experiential Intimacy

• This is the "date night" intimacy, created moments of break from daily life to be with one another

• Jesus' ministry was constantly moving, including moments in the home, but always with a place to go.

...Jesus went to the sea

...preached from a boat

...prayed in a garden

...ate in an upper room with the disciples

...taught in the synagogue

Our relationships are meant to move and share in life

Read Song of Ephesians 3:20-21

Type: Intellectual Intimacy

• Exchanging thoughts and ideas about what you care about

• Have you set a vision for your relationship, what hopes and dreams do you have?

• Jesus always had a vision for our relationship with a promise, the vision was to be united in the Kingdom of Heaven eternally.

Read Song of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Type: Emotional Intimacy

• Understanding your partner, sharing your feeling with one another, being vulnerable

• Weeks 1 and 2 of this series really spoke to this, watch online.

Read Song of Solomon 7:1-9

Type: Physical Intimacy

• This is not sexual intimacy, it is just a component of it.

• These different intimacies have been ordered in such a way to bring us here. Each intimacy is needed in order to bring us to Holy Matrimony

• We need to reclaim “Holy” in intimacy and it is God ordained that it is part of our relationship.

• At each moment in this intimacy we are brought closer to one another with powerful feelings and searching in our heart who are we and who are we with

• This is the beautiful and broken finding one another.

Read Ephesians 3:16-17

The last is Spiritual Intimacy and it is knowing that Christ has loved us in such a way that we understand intimacy because of Christ. That our love is an undeniable reflection of Jesus Christ.
