Movie Introduction and Nostalgia Talk
Captainhello hey I don't know why I'm always helloing yeah , you should say bye , right .
WilsonYeah , all right , see you later . Goodbye , thanks for coming for coming .
JayWindows say goodbye to you . I think you've got malware in your system . Run that virus scan .
CaptainWho would say that ? Somebody would say that .
WilsonSomebody would say bye .
CaptainYeah , goodbye .
JayOh AOL , oh my gosh .
CaptainMan .
WilsonI'm blasting the press . Yeah , sorry , yeah , it was AOL Date yourself . It's been 84 years .
CaptainYeah , who is that ?
JayThe woman from the Titanic ? Oh , no , oh , who's talking ? Oh , that's AOL . Yeah , who's talking ? Oh ?
Wilsonwe have Jay again this week . Yeah , oh .
JayWe've got some little clapping noises .
CaptainWhat Are you Austin Powers ? Over there , what's he say yeah , baby . Oh yeah , austin Powers mostly holds up .
WilsonThere are some things that are like ooh .
CaptainYeah , but the movie , you know , is a comedy , so you kind of know they're leaning in .
WilsonYou have to look at it through a lens .
CaptainThey're leaning in purposefully like austin powers is not supposed to be a guy you love they do some wonderfully goofy stuff yeah like when he's first , is it the first movie ?
Jaywhen he's on frozen , and he's like austin powers , the war is over . He's like oh yeah , hell yeah , let's show those capitalist pigs . And like the communist loss . He's like , oh , right on , yeah , but there's like um I think the third one or maybe the second one .
WilsonThere's like , there's like a joke . I was like I don't think you can do that anymore um , there's these two um asian twins and it's fook me and fook you . Oh yeah , I don't think that aged super well , but that's fair but I yeah , for me .
CaptainI remember I watched those movies way too young and I remember when I watched them and I and there was like fat bastard character and at school we were talking about like movies , whatever , and I was like , oh yeah , and the fat bastard character , and everyone was like and I was like what ?
Jayand like I ?
Captaindidn't know bastard was a bad word . They were like bastard is like bitch , but like for boys , and I was like , oh yeah , and I I mean , I don't even know how old you were- 11 or something oatmeal just douses , I think I told this story on the shut up dude .
CaptainI think I told this story in the podcast already . But when we were even younger , when I was really little , I remember being like . I remember somebody in the bathroom was saying like oh man , the B word is so bad , and I was like what ? But I was like you can say but like , but it's fine . You can say but but yeah , that's how how much I didn't know .
WilsonI also got in trouble with that movie because I also watched it too young and I remember it was like the third one whenever Austin Powers' dad is in it and he's telling that story in like British , british and he says like shat on a turtle .
CaptainBut at that age I didn't know shat was a bad word , I mean , you would never hear it .
WilsonNo , and I was going around saying it and , like my brother heard me say it and then his friend was over and they were laughing at me saying it and I was like what is wrong ?
Captainwith saying Shadow and the Turtle .
JayYeah , my parents only watched Speed when I was really . I watched a lot of action movies when I was a kid , but they're kind of talking about it , so I was like should we let them watch this ? I , they're like kind of talking about stuff . Should we let them ?
Captainwatch this . It's like , well , it's not too bad . What's Speed about ? You haven't seen .
JaySpeed oh man .
CaptainYou're in for a treat . Tyler Reeves and Sandra Bullock .
JayYou're in for a treat , I'm not going to say anything . It's so good .
WilsonAll right , but anyway .
JayThere's a scene it's the bus and they're like ah , she , let him watch it , he's a little young . They're like it's fine , it's mostly an action movie and there's a scene where someone's getting run off the road and they're like oh shit , shit , shit , shit , and they crash the car and like . Immediately after I hear that , I'm like ha , ha , ha shit , shit , shit , shit . And I just keep saying and they're like oh god .
CaptainA lot of this sounds pretty good .
WilsonYeah , there's a bomb on the bus , and if they stop it , the bomb explodes . It's so good .
CaptainYeah , you can't go below 50 miles per hour , keanu .
JayReeves Sandra Bullock . Who's the oh man ? I can't think of his name right now .
CaptainI love Sandy , the main bad guy .
JayIt's also got From Dumb and Dumber and the newsroom .
CaptainThe blonde guy .
WilsonYes , it was Dave Coulier .
CaptainYeah , and that's fair , that's fair .
JayOh yeah , not Jeff Bridges . No , isn't it Jeff ? I think it is Jeff .
CaptainNot Jeff Goldblum . What is ?
Wilsonthat Jeff .
JayJeff .
CaptainJeffy Jeff .
WilsonCome on , I'm going to be so mad . Okay , jim Carrey and Jeff , blank in Dumb and Dumber Buckley .
CaptainBezos in Jeff Jeff .
JayJeffers , it's Jeff Daniels , jeff Daniels .
WilsonYes , thank you , thank you .
JayJeff Daniels . And the bad guy is also a famous Jeff Daniels . Jeff Daniels is a wide range , 95% of Rotten Tomatoes , by the way . Speed is a banger , just so good . Dennis Hopper . That's what I was thinking Dennis , just so good , dennis Hopper . That's what I was thinking , dennis , I know that name , hopper not Hoffman Dennis he does a couple villain roles in the 90s , I think .
WilsonI mean I don't want to mitigate , he's probably been on this up too , but this guy oh yeah , he looks like a villain pop quiz hot shot that's from Speed . I've heard that before why are we here ? Why are we oh ? Yes , anyway , sorry the only the only discussion I was like we neither of us have .
CaptainNone of us have seen weapons yet oh , we're gonna do a monthly thing where we like both talk about things that one of us have seen and the other person hasn't , and we're just like you should watch that we have , but neither of us have seen this yet .
WilsonNeither one of us have seen weapons , but we , neither one of us have seen weapons , but we're going to see it tomorrow Or-ish maybe it was rocking 100% on Rotten Tomatoes . Yeah , we're going to talk the shit out of it . Next episode .
CaptainAnd it's about Sorry , I know .
JayI , I don't hear what it's about . Yeah , don't , don't do that .
CaptainWell , I mean , how are we going it ?
WilsonYou're going to have to fucking kill me . And also everyone's quoting her character from Fantastic Four .
JayOh yeah , I held your end , or whatever . Yeah , I held your end . Oh yeah , she's Silver Surfer .
CaptainThat was so good . I love her . Her , and what did you say ? That guy's name was Housemaker .
WilsonOh , Paul . Paul Walter , paul Walter Hauser , yeah , did you see , wolfman , that was the other movie .
CaptainYes , yeah , we did see that . How was that ? I heard she carried the movie . She does , yeah , she does carry the movie . It was so it was fine , it was mid .
WilsonThat's with Kit Harington right . Or is that totally off base ?
CaptainI'm thinking of another movie .
WilsonI'm thinking of another movie , I guess .
JayHe's in the Eternals , that's not what I'm thinking of .
CaptainHe's in something called Game of Thrones . He's hairy like a wolf .
WilsonWhat he looks like a wolf he is in a movie that has something to do with wolves .
CaptainWolves are out . The side set Wolves are like out . Oh my gosh . Besides that , the Beast Within from 2024 . Oh , you know , speaking of wolves . A couple
Upcoming Horror Films Discussion
Captainof episodes ago I was telling you about an alien necromancer that raises children .
JayAs one does and you were like what the fuck , that old chestnut ? And I the Austin Powers line , an alien necromancer on an alien planet that's raising kids , and I , the awesome powers alien necromancer on an alien planet .
CaptainThat's raising kids . Anyway , you were like blown and I was like I don't fucking know , and anyway it's called raised by wolves yeah if you want to watch it .
WilsonIt's not like a like a , an english class book . What am I thinking of ?
Jayit's probably some book , but it's you think of red riding hood .
CaptainNo , there , what am I thinking of ? It's probably some book , but it's You're thinking of Red Riding .
WilsonHood .
JayNo , there's some English like ninth grade English class book about like wolves and pigs .
CaptainYou have the three little pigs .
WilsonHe huffed and puffed . It was like a kid that was raised by wolves and it's like , oh , literary classic .
JayOh yeah , I mean that's .
CaptainI mean the Jungle Book's based on a boy who was basically raised by baloo baloo ?
Jayno , it was a boy who was basically feral .
CaptainHe was raised by wild animals um are you thinking of the childhood classic of like he cried ?
Wilsonwell , no , it was like a uh , I have .
CaptainI can't say I love that one um like walked no , no , I think of tarzan , I think of him .
JayThere's a scene where he fights a gorilla . I'm like bruh never , a silverback . You're fighting a silverback for dominance in the group .
WilsonReally Well . I tried to search high school book wolves . I think I'm gonna need to give it a little more information than that , probably .
JayAnyway , that's all I got 90s anime or early aughts anime called Wolf's Reign , with a bunch of boys that can turn into wolves .
CaptainLook at who you're talking to .
WilsonAnd dystopian feet . It was on Adult Swim . Now I'm wondering if they were just like wolves that had sentient thoughts and there were no humans , I don't know . Are you just thinking of Twilight that ?
Jaysounds pretty good . Yeah , you know what you got me the skin of a killer . Bella I still haven't seen that movie . I feel bad . You should watch it .
WilsonIt's not good , like watch it . I still want to watch it . It's like a good fall movie . Okay , I'll do that .
CaptainOh my gosh Sorry , I just Sorry .
WilsonWhere is this leading you ? I just had a brain blast .
CaptainNo , this is unrelated Entirely . I was thinking about Dexter .
WilsonOkay , yeah .
CaptainAnd the Gemini Killer . Oh , what a great episode . I don't know , I mean by the time this comes out . Anyway , gemini , yeah you had your chance .
WilsonActually , the season might almost be done when this episode comes out , but I love Because I was upset . I love 9.5 .
CaptainIt's pretty good .
WilsonYeah , it was a pretty good episode . Do you know how many episodes we're getting ?
CaptainAre we getting like 8 , 10 , 12 ? Anyway , I just realized . I , like the last time I saw the guy that plays a gemini killer . It's in a night of night with the devil .
WilsonWhat's that called the the late night with the devil ? Oh , that was a good movie . Yeah , and he does that role . He's got the meaty little eyes and yeah , he's good at those like skeevy looking he has a look , you know he does have a look he's getting roles .
CaptainIt's not bad . Yeah , he can . No , it's not bad at all , but his face gives like a .
WilsonI can really easily play a creepy character .
JayHe plays into it , he knows his role .
WilsonOh yeah .
CaptainHe's not going to tan salons , he's found his spot .
WilsonYeah , he's not tanning up .
CaptainYeah , he's not getting bronze , he's like you also said , you saw 28 Days Later . I know I haven't seen it .
JayOh yeah , how was that Weeks ?
Captainlater , sorry , years later , years Nothing .
JayI mean , I did see it 28 Days , what's ?
Wilsonthat I mean we did the podcast episode two . Yeah seriously . But yeah , 28 Years Later , I won't give you any spoilers . I did like it . To me it felt like a Disney movie story with blood and guts .
CaptainWhat Did you re-watch the other movies ?
WilsonNo , but I watched a 10-minute recap video See .
CaptainI think I need to re-watch the other movies . 28 .
JayWeeks is kind of out there . It has really nothing to do with 28 Days . It really doesn't . And this one , neither you don't need to have seen the other .
WilsonYou just need to know they exist .
JayOkay to have seen the other . Like you just need to know they exist . Okay , but um , it is a good movie . It's just a weird vibe , interesting , the trailer's weird . I don't know if you've seen the trailer . Yeah , weird , yeah , so I would recommend it .
WilsonI mean , they're gonna do like two more oh really yeah , they already have like 28 decades later letterbox . Like the titles are in there like oh my gosh , yeah , okay 28 decades later , it's just uh , the silo tv show that's it's
Captaina prequel ? Yeah , it's like , yeah , oh yeah , centuries later is alien and then I know that um , I mean we're seeing freak your fr Friday .
WilsonI'm sure you're jelly .
JayI would rather see Weapons than Freak your Friday personally .
WilsonJust do Double Feature tomorrow . Drive four hours , watch a Double Feature , go to work the next day . Jesus Christ , you can pull it off .
CaptainAnd then the one other thing I wanted to mention is Wednesday started Wednesday Season 2 . You watched Wednesday Season 1 . You could pull it off . And then the one other thing I wanted to mention is um , wednesday started wednesday season two oh , yeah , you watched wednesday season one I did .
WilsonOkay , I did hear um there was a review that like this season . People are like , oh well , wednesday's not really the central character in this anymore and they're like , well , that's okay , it's like it's more of an adams family , right season rather than just like all Wednesday , which sure okay yeah these are mixed reviews .
CaptainHow ?
Jaymany episodes are out . There's only like four , right , I think they split it .
CaptainThey almost do that now .
JayI think so I'm starting to appreciate that again , I'm watching weekly , but at the same time I hate it .
WilsonI love it . I like watching Dexter weekly , but I also hate it .
JayI have noticed
TV Show Discussions and Updates
Jaythat , like Netflix , when they split seasons like the reviews are like this season split like Squid Games , they're like like oh they review bomb it yeah like Squid Games season another season , oh yeah , um , but like they get dinged for that because it like I mean , I also hate it .
WilsonI don't I don't hold it against the show . I think I'm annoyed with um . Honestly , I'm most annoyed with stranger things . This final season they're doing three releases I , that's I'm like we have waited a decade . Just please provide all also what the last episode or whatever comes out on new year's day or something like that , or new year's eve and I'm like , wait , really , yeah , there's something stupid like that .
CaptainI mean , there are probably a lot of people that just sit at home and chill , which well , yeah , but like if you have stuff to do and then like the like the biggest episode everyone's waiting for , yeah and they're like okay , well , when you're busiest , we're gonna release it and then you can see spoilers . I think you read about Wednesday splitting , wednesday splitting . Well , I wasn't doubting him .
WilsonYeah , it's like four episodes .
CaptainYeah , currently this season's ratings are a little bit lower than last season's ratings .
WilsonIt's also like this whole thing with like shows take forever now to get a second season and it's like you forget about the show you have to re-watch , like we started re-watching .
JayYeah yeah , and I don't know if it's just because the actors are so busy that they have to like , plan around their schedule or if it's just the directors sometimes are busy .
WilsonUm , I don't know I did see for um silo , like the actors pushed , like they already started filming .
CaptainSeason four and season three is not out , yet they like finished and they're , just like you're caught up on silent I am caught up oh , love that show .
JayI wonder , if the studios have any part in that . They're like really slow to approve a new season of the show . I think they are more cautious these days of like approving stuff because they've lost a lot of money . I mean post-covid everything kind of changed , um .
WilsonSo I I get that , but I just you know there's just there's too long between seasons , like I don't want to wait two years for the next season .
JaySo for Stranger Things , each episode's almost a movie yes , but it's like it needs to end now .
WilsonYeah , they can , I've loved every season , but like we need to , we need to close this up yeah , visually actually .
JayI kind of don't mind that . So the gap lets you like kind of forget about it , like like I forgot all about the show and they're like , hey , season five . So I'm like , oh yeah , stranger things , I really like that show . How much I like that show like it's like yeah almost game of thrones level .
WilsonWhen you're watching it , you're like , oh damn , this is good , I'm gonna , I'm gonna restart it again , because I re-watched all of it whenever the last season came out , we might have to .
JayWe haven done that , but we might do it because it's the last season we haven't re-watched anything . For the last I'm going to oh yeah , we haven't watched the first season since the first time we watched it .
CaptainYeah , we never re-watched any of it . Almost like yeah , 10 years ago .
JayBecause it's like such a commitment . I'm like , okay , it's a lot for .
CaptainYeah , but that's easy .
JayI mean , the episodes are kind of long . It's a 10-episode season , the first one , I believe .
WilsonI mean , if you're trying to watch Walking Dead or Lost , you can blow through Stranger Things , but that was months we were watching these things . Well , you have time . If you start now , you can just coast along with Stranger Things .
JayWalking Dead is good . In the beginning we were chewing through that , yeah , that tv .
CaptainWell , the first season sticks up at peace like we're gonna get through , yeah , yeah , um . One other thing , and this is just reminding me because you're not fully done watching it , but from season three you're almost done , almost yeah , I'm getting there love that show . They have started filming already , because I I followed them on instagram so I see when they start filming . They started filming back in June , so they're already filming season four .
WilsonI'm curious how the show's gonna end yeah , I can see it getting you gotta go back , yeah , I don't ?
Captainyeah , very yeah , like I'm trying to figure out what story they're trying to tell like yeah all of them , it's like is this gonna keep going on forever . They're gonna end this thing some things you know , the fact that Michael's still in there and the fact that if they answer a question , six more questions pop up . It's giving Lost a little bit .
JayI don't mind that right now I mean the creators of Lost . We'll see how the next season goes .
CaptainIt should come out in 2026 , but they're already filming .
WilsonIt's in the works . It'll probably take me an extra year to even start on that . The main character , the sheriff , I still hate him from .
CaptainLost .
JayLike I hated his character in Lost Well he's Walt .
CaptainNo , no , his son was Walter .
WilsonHis son was Walt , yeah .
CaptainAnd he was Michael , but his new role ? What's his name in this show ?
JaySheriff McStupidhead .
WilsonBurr , Burr , Burba .
CaptainBoyd Boyd .
WilsonYeah , I got there .
CaptainHe's giving Boyd honestly , he's despicable . He's giving Boyd .
WilsonOh my goodness . And again has like a weird relationship with his son . I mean I guess he's not stolen this time .
CaptainBut yeah , but the estrangement . Yeah , they were like scoot in here . We'll just switch your name around .
WilsonOverall .
CaptainI think I haven't watched other .
WilsonSo mgm shows I've only seen the institute . And from I don't know what the other ones are like . The acting is generally pretty good . And from yeah , besides , um , what's her face ?
Captaintabitha .
JayYeah , you don't like she have an accent or not I feel like sometimes it's there and sometimes I don't know it's kind of giving like um Gadot .
CaptainYes , oh , people do not like that lady's acting .
WilsonNo , it's not good it's really not good . It's very not good the Institute acting's not so good , I don't know .
JayI thought it was like halfway through the first season . I was like wait , does she have an accent or not ? I can't tell which one she's trying , like she's either trying to have an , I'm trying not to have one , but either way it comes in and out , yeah .
Wilsonso I can't tell what what's the actual , but it's also just not like . Accent aside , her acting's not good . Yeah , I don't know if anyone's acting is that great like , like , I mean her boy's good and her husband's good well , boy doesn't have it .
CaptainHe's basically michael . There's not a lot of range there .
WilsonYou think jim's good I think he's pretty good , the daughter's's good .
CaptainI like Jade the son is annoying Jade the guy that goes crazy . I like his acting .
WilsonAnd the lady that runs the colony house ?
JayYeah , she's probably the best , oh , the older woman yeah , she's good .
CaptainWhat's her name ? I feel like I've seen her in other stuff .
JayColony house lady Donna in the show . Oh yeah .
CaptainBut she's Elizabeth . Um great show the , the girl that does . I think it's the girl that runs the clinic that um kind of had a thing with the kenny um , before her actual wife came back into the picture . You know right um dude that girl's hot as fuck like dude .
CaptainSeriously , I went to from cast the blonde or the the short hair brunette , I forget who's the short-haired brunette okay yeah , um , I went to the cast and her photo is like her modeling like I can't really show these modeling like , but she's like a model I can kind of see that she's like a model um it's like when you're watching any korean show and you go to look at the cast oh my god , and they are like literally it's like are you guys professional models on the side , like basically
Wilsonthe headshots are insane yeah , one of my gripes for that show is or maybe it's just they didn't provide a good recap , but they keep referencing things like oh , are you okay after what happened , and I'm like you gotta be more specific about that .
JayWhat ?
Wilsonhappened with you guys . Again , I don't yeah I you know .
CaptainOne last thing at victor , who plays an uh old man that like stopped being around humans when he was he ? He ? He plays that role of like being a stunted child . So well , that's a really good he does .
WilsonYeah , I've like I was for a while I was like what is the age difference between him and the guy who plays his dad ?
JayBecause I'm like I kind of thought they were like yeah , they're kind of close in age .
WilsonI thought Victor was kind of old , but maybe he's not as old as .
CaptainI thought . I just don't think he was taught grooming well , so I don't think .
WilsonVictor , he just looks old and frail .
CaptainYeah , I think .
WilsonDo you recognize his dad ? It's interesting because I'm watching the Institute and from at the same time His dad's in both shows .
CaptainOh really , which one's his dad ?
WilsonHis dad plays the doctor that Mary Louise Parker is like kind of hooking up with in the like .
CaptainOh , ok , yeah , Wow Interesting .
WilsonI was like I know that face .
CaptainWeird , weird to see them at that . I would hate to watch something where somebody's in both shows at the same time . Yeah , I was like that's weird , but at the same time I was like well , from's been out for a while .
WilsonSo yeah , no , I mean it's not their fault , it's yours . Okay , okay , all right . Well , let's go in .
JayYeah , let's google henry's dad and from , and I got some interesting fan it's victor victor's dad and from , and I was like oops , some theories spoil myself .
WilsonI don't want to hear it spoil that okay , give it to me . What do we got , uh , yeah uh , we're yeah , during a surf side , I'm drinking surf side . I'm not drinking surf sides . I love this .
CaptainI actually okay , we need to give this company money blueberry honey money prairie artisanal ales and they make blueberry boyfriend . Ah , love this beer so good does it give off blueberry boyfriend ? It does and the artwork on the can is so fun it is a fun , fun . I don't think I've seen these in our living situation what we don't have , I have a raspberry girlfriend , but well , I have a blueberry boyfriend and um , it's really good good he's hot oh no wow , that's a great reference . Okay , give it to me , to me .
WilsonYeah , let's bop in here . So welcome to the 176th episode of the Red Rum Podcast , where we review horror movies while enjoying a little beverage
The Cleansing Hour Cast Overview
Wilsonor two .
CaptainAnd I'm Captain .
WilsonAnd I'm Wilson and we also have Big Pod Energy , aka Jay .
CaptainI thought you were going to be like big boy .
WilsonJay and week we're reviewing the 2019 horror film the Cleansing .
CaptainHour , I'm sorry , directed by Damien Levesque , yeah .
WilsonSo he also did . A Creature Was Stirring from 2023 . I don't . I'm not familiar with that . It sounds intense .
CaptainParticular feature . Is that a Christmas movie ?
WilsonIt sounds like a Christmas moviemas , oh it could be a good uh holiday film if you don't have one picked out yet yeah , I love . I think you already do a little holiday jingle dang , oh yeah and now I have them saved , so I can just slip them in there and like look every year um this movie started sorry . Oh yeah , yeah so , uh , this movie started as a short film in 2016 , um , and it's a shutter original yeah , which is unusual um but and what I'm not ?
CaptainI mean I don't really watch much of shutter , yeah unusual in the fact , like the fact , like the shutter has even had originals .
WilsonMake them , yeah , okay , yeah because I kind of thought for a long I mean maybe it's true for the longest time they mostly just showed movies that already existed . I didn't know . This was like shutter network made this bitch existed .
CaptainI didn't know . This was like shutter network made this bitch made it didn't um . It was like shutter plus usaa , or sorry usaa did dexter nope , nope , sorry , chucky wasn't , it wasn't what happening Wasn't .
WilsonChucky like a Shudder and USA combined show .
CaptainThat sounds like that . Oh , the actual TV show that is , oh yeah , the recent TV show . I thought you were talking about Child's Planet .
JayI was like man . No one of those existed , no I think you might be right .
WilsonI never finished that show . Oh , apparently Shudder did . We didn't finish the second season .
CaptainShudder did . Vhs Beyond Shudder did that .
JayI don't . I haven't seen VHS . I think I just saw VHS 1 and 2 . I saw 1 and 2 , yeah , it was the 2024 one .
CaptainI don't think it had good reviews .
JayYeah , vhs 2 was , I think , the one I liked .
WilsonIt has that like did apparently that that was a shutter film . Oh oh , really well , it's pretty good quality . That was a pretty good .
JayI hate that movie it was very like goopy and like it was very , but it was very well executed . I thought oh yeah , it was .
CaptainI think that when they say , like I'm on the google , that or the wiki , that's like shutter original programming . I don't know how much they're involved , like I don't know what this means . Like it says shutter original films , but it doesn't really give like specifics about like did they goop ?
Wilsonit was , I think they distributed . This says there's oh , the production company was scuba on scuba .
CaptainI don't know what that means yeah , like I don't know what this involvement means when it says original film shutter probably just like bought the rights okay , but this one actually like , said like shutter I don know what to tell you .
JayWas it Shudder Studios ? That's the question you're probably asking .
WilsonDo they have a development ?
Jaystudio that actually produced it , versus just buying this from a different studio .
WilsonI'm going to do a deep dive sometime and figure that out .
JayI think it was . It felt like a horror-y TV channel movie kind of In terms of the scale of it , um , but it was pretty good they have a lot of exclusives like a lot .
CaptainWhat does that mean like ?
WilsonI guess you can only watch the movie or show on oh on shutter , yes that's all I got um yep , so people about um . That brings us into the cast . So we have ryan guzman who plays max um . He was a martial art mixed martial arts fighter and a print model um he was in this step-up revolution . I didn't watch the step-up movies . Is that like a sequel ?
Captainokay , I didn't watch them either . I can't . I mean magic mike's the only dancing movie I've spent any time watching , and I don't know if I'd watch anything else .
WilsonOkay uh , he was in pretty little liars and he was a main role in a 911 . The show is called 911 yeah , the . Yeah , it's called 9-1 okay um , then we also have kyle , gallner , I think we know him .
CaptainHe looks familiar . Yeah , he's in a lot of stuff we know he's like a scream king . Oh , I think um he's in a lot of stuff . We know him . He's like a .
WilsonScream King . Oh , I think he's in Wet , hot American Summer . Colin in Jennifer's Body . He was in the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street .
CaptainHe's in the 2022 Scream .
WilsonHe's also in Both Smiles .
CaptainYeah , he's the main boyfriend , I think to the girl , or .
WilsonHow is he in both ? Was it like archived footage or ?
Captainwhat I don't know ? He's Joel . I don't know .
JayI think the boyfriend survives , and that's how the second one starts .
WilsonIt's following him , oh , so he's like not really in the second one , or he's like in the second one , I don't know .
JayHe's in it for a little bit , oh , okay .
CaptainI really like the Smile movies .
WilsonThey do them great that you had no business being as good as it was for a sequel .
CaptainThey put way more money into .
JayWhen I saw this coming , I was like , oh , here we go . Did you send me the ?
Captainbehind the scenes or I sent you the behind the scenes for that who knows it was creepy like I was .
JayLike they did a good job .
WilsonYeah , it's not like a lot of its practical effects for that , for that monster at the end , which I think is . But that entire movie is sponsored by boss water like yeah , she's chugging yeah but uh , yeah , so he's the most known person . He is yeah , um , we also have alex angelus as lane , also known as sabrina she they're called .
CaptainShe calls . She's called sabrina for the cleansing hour youtube video , but her name is lane in the movie oh right , like she has two characters , they gave her a character name . Inside the movie she gets another character name .
WilsonI have not watched Imaginary , but she's in Imaginary .
CaptainYeah , the 2024 teddy bear movie .
WilsonI don't think it did very well , but I do want to watch it .
JayIt's like an evil imaginary friend or something Okay .
WilsonAnd then we have Joanna David as Schoolmarm .
CaptainThe older lady that is haunting them Schoolmm . The older lady that is haunting them School Marm ? I don't know what's the name for it .
WilsonLike a Catholic church teacher .
CaptainMarmy , oh yeah .
WilsonLots of theater and British stuff is what she's known for .
CaptainOkay , when I typed on her . There was so much on there and I didn't recognize any of it Is that what nun teachers are called School Marms , it seems derogatory .
WilsonI've never . Is that what nun teachers are called School marms ? It seems derogatory Marm , I don't know , oh , school marm .
CaptainIt says school mistress in reference to a woman that's usually regarded as prim , strict and brisk in manner .
JayYeah , that's not a compliment .
CaptainI guess it says alternatively school ma'am .
WilsonSchool ma'am . Oh , marm is fine . School ma'am .
CaptainSchool ma'am . Oh , marm is fine . School ma'am . Yeah , like your whole , like who you identify as is like just school woman . School ma'am .
JayI love my plane .
CaptainYeah , exactly , it was at Jurassic Park . This lady is plane . Yeah , he's just like that , but no one touch my plane . Okay so we got school marm . Uh , okay , I think that's the last of the . That's mostly a small cast . Yeah , it is very small cast . It was like the guy that the voice actor for sabrina was somebody , but I was like I don't recognize I saw that too .
WilsonI was like they're in stuff . But yeah , but it's all voice acting yeah uh , but it was good voice acting um great so basically the premise of this movie is there is a , this guy runs a tv show a youtube show , basically that , um , he does possessions , um , I think the first scene of this , the thing you don't realize he's doing a show just yet but I love the way they did that .
CaptainYou're in the middle of a scene where they're like throwing holy water on a vampire and he's like , ah , and it's like smoking um , and what a demon or this person oh , that was a oh . No , sorry you're right when I first saw that , I was like is this a vampire ? No , you're right , it was this person . But um the the like , there's like some acting that's happening in there , with like the seat shoving around like oh yeah , shot up and yeah I don't know something about that action sequence was giving like the action you see in a steven seagal movie .
CaptainIt was like very punchy , like very like choppy ? I don't know um , but yeah , it like pans out and it'd be like it's like we're .
WilsonYou know it's like a computer screen yeah , video playing
Plot Breakdown and Main Themes
Wilsonand the scene like kind of wraps and they're like oh , good job on the stunts .
CaptainDon't forget to like and subscribe . Yeah , punch that like button or whatever .
WilsonYeah yeah , so this father max guy is basically , he's like pretending to be like , oh , I'm doing these actual live exorcisms yeah , possessed , possessed people get exercorcised every week on their or whatever every episode .
CaptainAnd then we , I think shortly after that , we meet Drew , who's the guy behind the scenes , and they've been best friends for a little while and he , like , does all of the I don't know directing , scripting , I don't know all of that stuff .
WilsonThe editing , that kind of stuff , yeah , so they're like planning their next episode and they hired , like a , I guess , a drag queen to be the possessed person . Oh yeah , scarlett VanCock , yeah , and .
CaptainThe thing is , max really wants to be verified . He doesn't have the blue check mark and they want to get more than 50 . They've been like basically hitting 50K subscribers and they like they've been sitting still , so like they want to do something that is gonna like get them more and go viral max was like let's just hire my friend , this drag queen um drew .
CaptainOn the other hand , was like no , we need to like branch out and do other stuff like ghost seances , um , but you know they don't agree . I , I don't agree on that and I feel like max has the final say because he's like the face of the yeah , it's like his show basically yeah , um , and .
WilsonBut the drag queen gets like killed in an alleyway by like some demon thing , yeah . So I mean , yeah , it's , I don't know , yeah , there's some criticism on this of , like they're like , why did they the whoever wrote this movie pick , like let's just pick a drag queen and then just kill them , oh , online . It was just like , why did you have a drag character and then choose to have , like , that character die a very miserable ?
Captainpainful death .
JayI could see criticism for that , yeah , and the whole setup is kind of , you know , questionable because it's like , hey , let's get this drag queen on here so we can get a bunch of , you know , a bunch of more likes . It's like kind of I don't know , like I mean , they're not trying to , but it's a little dehumanizing and a little like I read that into like yeah , but he did it's entertainment . He's not . He's not portrayed as like some deep thinker or some like very socially conscious person .
CaptainHe's just like max doesn't say him , he himself does not say anything no , no , he's like my friend , oh , yeah , yeah whatever you know their drag name , scarlet van cock .
WilsonI you know we should bring him on , yeah , so um , obviously the drag queen does not show up because they are dead um so as a last-ditch effort they're like .
JayDrew asks his fiancee girlfriend to lane yeah , to be the possessed person it's like these creepy monsters are outside . I guess that's the same entity that ends up .
CaptainYeah , they kind of talk about it in the later on in the movie , but it's basically like , um , what she's saying . You know you , you poke the bull , you eventually get the horns . So it's like you know the fact that they keep like pretending to exercise him . They're like , well , you're gonna get a demon if you keep like trying to get a demon yeah um , but so I think that's what I think it's kind of the same kind of entity but it's all one evil entity .
CaptainI think so , yeah , but um , we also get more personality , like , yeah , max is not a good , he not a priest , he's not a good guy Like we before this showing Well , he did go to divinity school .
WilsonYeah , exactly .
CaptainBefore this showing he well , yeah , but he's like having one night stands with women pretending to be a priest .
WilsonHe did quit , or he got ousted or something .
CaptainYeah , so we hear about that that he goes home with a woman named desiree and he taught he . She says , like you're not a priest , right , like they were fucking . And he was like , no , but I did want to be a priest . But they , he tells her I wanted to be a priest . I went to school but basically like I wanted to do exorcisms and they were like , nah , you can't do that , we're not doing that . So he quits to do exorcisms , so like I don't know , and he basically said like he taught himself how to do it . Then he also makes a weird reference that he wants to be like another archangel , like michael .
CaptainThat's on the front line of like some religious war with it with like evil and I was like all right , sir you , literally just pretend to do exorcisms for money like relax , yeah , um , but yeah .
WilsonSo then , yeah , skylar vancocke rip , and then they go to taping the next production , but she's not there yeah , so so they bring lane in , and very quickly it turns out like she's not following the cues of the , the lines when they start recording , and then like very quickly you find out okay , lane's possessed yeah like this is a real possession and they're like you know what . What's going on ? Why aren't you following the cues ?
Captainand then they start to realize it's like oh , this is uh and even like chris the boom guy , he's affected like he thinks that he just had like bad pills from the party night before .
WilsonI don't know what's going on with him , but he's like vomiting .
CaptainHe's ill . He like faints , he like sees some like a demon in the bathroom mirror that like chokes him out . At one point the sink water runs red . I think it's all like the same entity , but it's affecting him too and he's like missing in the bathroom for like half the movie .
WilsonYeah , oh yeah , he's like passed out in there , um . And then I think there's like another like sound guy . Well , basically , the demons like has these rules so it's like one you can't stop streaming , um you can't leave the stage or , like somebody else , can't come on , and um one of you can't enter the shot if you don't belong in the shot . Yeah , so one of the guys that works on the set like runs I think his name's max .
CaptainYeah , no , that's the past . That's the priest , yeah oh sorry , no , you're right . Yeah , I can't remember what his name was .
WilsonI don't know he runs off when he's not supposed to and he's just immediately killed .
CaptainYeah , she does that cool thing where she burns . He has a phoenix tattoo and she basically starts burning it like a phoenix burning and he then just combusts into flames that guy . So that's the first death and they're all like , okay , this is real . I really like that scene that Drew grabs a fire extinguisher and the fire extinguisher just makes the flames worse . It's like a flamethrower , yeah , it's like literally he just put gasoline on the man and so this demon's having like fun this entire time and they can't call 911 .
WilsonThey are getting more views while it's happening . Yeah , but yeah .
CaptainI think she , yeah . Then she yeah I don't know if she . I think she might have laid the rules down after that guy tried to run off . And she's like you cut the feed , I kill the girl . Max , you go off screen , I kill the girl , anyone runs , I kill you . And then she's like congratulations , you have 49 minutes to lift the veil of what's . You know what's happening . Yeah , oh yeah , because they also need to . They need to find the name of the demon because that's like the premise .
WilsonYou gotta find the name . You can like exercise it . Yeah , you gotta find the script that goes along with that demon for exorcism .
CaptainYeah , yeah , so um , uh , I think it cuts to . I think around this scene yeah , you're right , the numbers go but it cuts to people from like all over the world watching like a little kid and like , uh , people , you know , police officers in korea .
WilsonYeah , I was very confused what they were doing with this .
CaptainIt makes sense later , but yeah , yeah , that person that , like you know , she's like letting her boyfriend's , like fixing a car in the middle of the desert or something , and she's yeah , so it's just showing different perspectives of people watching the show it gets like 300k .
WilsonUh , like you know , people streaming , which is like a lot for them and so the demon starts like torturing the person that it's possessing , um like that she can't breathe or something like that , and they're realizing that like to stop the torture .
CaptainUm max the priest or drew have to confess something yeah , you get that scene where first the demon's just still fucking with them , or she was like you know , um , do something that the audience is telling you to do , and maybe I'll like let her breathe . So of course they're all like vulgar , disgusting things yeah , well no that's the lightest one , yeah , that like , like they got to choose , but the demons that you've got to pick something from this dream and you know , people know , people are like , yeah , you know fuck each other .
WilsonYeah , whatever the fuck yeah .
CaptainJust crazy shit . And like the least , like the most PG one was like get naked , so Max takes all his clothes off and then they do that thing with the light and the ceiling thing the fan falls .
WilsonYeah .
CaptainSo they make him play hokey pokey .
JayOh yeah , he has to stick his hand out into the fan . Yeah , into the fan . It's very .
WilsonI mean the whole thing was like you have to play hokey pokey and like Well , yeah , but couldn't you back up and then play hokey pokey , like , do you have to do it just so your favorite ? The demon is not gonna .
CaptainThe whole thing is the demon wants you to hurt yourself and he's like stepping on glass . It's nasty , but they basically like regroup and they're like he gets to kind of clean up and then they yeah , then they I think he decides that he wants to really try to exercise , like I think he tries . Oh yeah , then the confession , yeah .
WilsonYeah , so they realize like , for example , Max decides to confess to the camera . Like look guys , guys , I'm not a real priest I've been telling you so prayer cloths , yeah , they don't do anything .
CaptainAnd then they're like , but then they realize , oh , that wasn't what they wanted you to confess yeah , because sabrina's still or whatever lane is still bleeding everywhere and like not being able to breathe um , and they realize at some point that the demon wants more views .
WilsonUm , but then it comes out that max and uh lane had hooked up once before .
CaptainUh lane and drew were together okay , but neither one of them said anything about it and max had like videos of them together yes , I do think that drew um Drew was a little too mad .
WilsonI mean , yes , it's sleazy that he kept videos , but I feel like he was angry enough as if they had actually cheated .
CaptainWell , it's not that they cheated , but it does feel like your best friend and your loved one that you're going to marry lied to you Straight to your face .
JayYeah , For a long time .
WilsonAnd they're like in cahoots about it yeah , I mean I don't think they were like actively in cahoots , but it feels that it would feel that way , like it would feel that way I can see both sides of it .
JayI didn't like sometimes I I felt a little bit at first . I was like , oh , that seems kind of like no , he reacts a little too , but I mean the whole thing Stressful , I don't know .
WilsonYeah , but then the team's like I found a video and we're going to play it . Yeah .
JayYeah , the video's great , yeah , the video's like great , and his excuse was just like I thought I deleted it . I was like oh my God , dude , yeah you know that man . You know that man knew he because it's such a flimsy , just like it was real fun , I thought I did it's like . Oh , and earlier in the movie it shows him filming his encounter with one of the groupies that set that up too , like he films her and he shows a video to people on set of like you remember that he like showed up .
JayYeah , but he's hooked up with desiree and that like sets up the like oh , he keeps .
CaptainOh , I didn't realize he . Yeah , he did so .
JayHe like films , all of his encounters , and then it's like oh well then yeah , you definitely didn't delete this video I before they confess like some of the big stuff , like that .
CaptainMax also , um , like they don't , the demon doesn't like his commission so he like bites two of his fingers off . Max is so much more reluctant to admit that he is a big fat phony , like he cares so much more about not admitting that . And I'm like , sir , you lost two fingers .
WilsonYeah , your life's entirely changed forever you have a dead guy on the floor . You have eight fingers .
JayThere's a dead guy on the floor and he's like it was like his index and middle finger , it's not like just some fingers on his dominant hand . Yeah , and he's not that worried about . Yeah , he really wasn .
CaptainHe really wasn't , and I was like sir , I don't think you understand that matters so much , Aren't you ?
Jayin a band you can't count anymore .
CaptainYeah , play instruments .
JayI can still count if I lose two of my fingers . This scene is not messing around . No , definitely not .
WilsonAnd all this time the views are rising and rising . Yeah going crazy and they're the demon .
Captainoh , it likes this yeah , and the guy that got caught on fire . He hired his niece to come intern . She also tries to run off the set and the demon chucks a mary statue and , like impales , her skull oh yeah , she's , she's also yeah and I think you're right . Yeah , they got like to a million views , um , and then like something about the bandwidth .
WilsonI don't know , I don't hack into the mainframe like some people do , but something about how they can't yeah , but the demon was like actively dropping the yeah , but like , but like I think they hit a million , oh , with that little monster thing yeah , I don't know what that's about .
CaptainI don't know if they just wanted a temporary distraction or not I don't know , but drew , you know , hacks the mainframe and like fixes it because they're about to like . If they drop the stream , he knows that demon's gonna kill lane .
WilsonYeah so I think , through some context clues , they like do some searching , they find what they believe is the demon's name and they like there's this whole scene of like trying to recite the exorcism for that demon , um , and like you know , it's tough , they get through through it .
CaptainI think it's Amon is the demon .
WilsonIt seems like it was depossessed . It goes into the guy that got burned . Oh yeah , it does depossess the girl .
CaptainThe biggest confession which I think happens before this is we get these cut scenes of Drew and Max's childhood and there's a school , marm , as we've talked about right then that like abuses them , especially max , like throughout their whole childhood . Like they guess they went to catholic school together and I don't know , maybe they both thought about going to seminary . They're both altar boys but um the I don't know if it says in the wiki , but Drew , at one point after long abuse he stabs the school mom in the eye with a pencil . I think .
WilsonI think he accidentally did it , because a pencil fell off the table , but he was just pushing her away .
CaptainOh , that's right , he just pushes her hard .
WilsonAnd she happened to fall straight onto a pencil .
CaptainOkay , true , I forgot about that , but that woman's not dead , right ?
WilsonI mean , I think she's dead . I think she died .
CaptainSo the biggest confession really was that he killed somebody .
WilsonIt was an accident , but yeah .
CaptainOkay , yeah , and while he's reluctant to confess that there's something happens in there about he's going to kill himself . I think when there was like 15 minutes left and this is before they figure out , the demon , sabrina or whatever , like the character says like you got 15 minutes If you unburden completely , 100% , you know , or you have to kill yourself at the end of this . So like the demon puts up the little counter circle that's like percent , and he just like keeps confessing until it's out .
WilsonYeah , I think the audience also has to . I guess in the comments be like don't oh , the audience is . I think there's an interaction well , no , I think like there's supposed to be audience interaction yeah , I thought the demon was like I think the demon was like the audience needs to collectively 100 agree that you shouldn't right kill yourself or something , right , yeah ?
CaptainOh , I thought the little counter was him confessing 100% , I think he was gaining their trust or something by confessing oh .
WilsonOr like swaying their opinion .
JayYeah , to not have him hang himself .
CaptainWell , he was almost going to kill himself At this point I wrote down . They had 11.5 million watching , which is crazy .
WilsonYeah , and he got to like 97% and then it wasn't enough .
CaptainThat's when he confesses the non-killing , yeah , but yeah , I think he almost gets to 100 , but that's when Lane and Max confess that they slept together and that gets them , I think , everywhere , yeah , and then I think so they do the exorcism or something , confess that they slept together , and that gets them , I think every , you know , everywhere , yeah , and then I think this , so they do the exorcism or something .
WilsonBut at some point they do realize that , oh , the demon wants to be watched . Yes , it was right around this .
CaptainThey unplug drug yeah , drug drew cuts the feed . Basically to try to get the demon to interact . Because the demon stopped interacting . It basically was like about to kill lane and then like she's like passed out half it's like mostly dead my bluff yes and yeah . Cutting the feed .
WilsonYeah , she was mad as hell so then , after this like failed exorcism , it comes like it turns into this big horned lava demon and it's like , oh , that's not the right name . I
Key Deaths and Demon Revelations
Wilsonam like lucifer , like I'm like the big bad , yeah , um , and this whole time they were trying to figure out like why , why does he want to be broadcasted ? Um , so like the scene there is kind of solved , but then it cuts to like I guess well , so they try an incantation for amon , which doesn't work right , because it's lucifer , yeah , and then basically , lucifer gives his own incantation to the audience Because he's mic'd up ?
WilsonYeah , because he now has like 11 million , I think he might have had more .
CaptainYeah , he had 11.5 whenI was marking .
WilsonYeah , so that incantation anyone that was watching , like all these people we saw throughout the movie . They basically get these white eyes and then they kill whoever's closest yeah , they become the white eye crazies yeah and then I guess , after the world's fine , after all , these people die . But one of them one of them is a kid that's been watching this the whole time . He goes in and you find out his dad is actually the president and he you see him like , oh yeah , he kills the president ofs .
CaptainYeah , um , I , I , I do like so . When the clock goes down to zero at the 60 minute mark , the lucifer disappears . He's gone , um , but obviously the people that were during this filming they don't really get possessed like , they don't get the incantation that lucifer gave I don't know .
WilsonThat's because , like it wasn't through a screen or whatever the fuck , I don't know yeah , and my take is everyone that got possessed , they did a kill or something and then they got deep .
CaptainMaybe they did a kill .
WilsonWell , the people that killed all the people around them after they possessed . Do you think they stayed possessed and just kept killing , or they just did a kill .
CaptainDid you not watch the credits ?
WilsonThere was a post-credits scene .
CaptainThere was scenes kind of spliced into the credits .
WilsonMaybe I didn't . Okay , fill me in .
CaptainOkay , so the people that are there don't get possessed , which I just said , because one of the last scenes of the movie is Max smiling at his phone because he finally got his blue verified checkmark .
WilsonOkay , so I remember that scene .
CaptainJust like the least of yours .
WilsonOh yeah .
CaptainLike , sir , you have eight fingers . There's like multiple dead bodies in front of you . It's bad , but anyway , in the post-credit scenes it shows the mayhem that's caused from what what they have is . It's like there's news articles that say the white-eyed crazies are like out released or whatever , and it says that like um , you know it's causing like chaos everywhere , um , they declared martial , martial , martial law um , which is like , clearly from my understanding , is that , like you know , they just kept killing and they kept like , like , like zombies , like it's like here's .
CaptainHere's how the walking dead started . Okay , is what is what I was getting from that okay , yeah , yeah , I missed that then .
WilsonOkay , so that answers that it says around the world .
CaptainYou know , wiki says oh yeah , all those people that watch it like yeah yeah , yeah , and I think that's that's why they gave us those cut scenes of people watching , which is really helpful .
WilsonYeah , now it makes sense .
CaptainIt was like when we were watching , I was like yeah , even those cops that you were saying Was that in Korea ?
Wilsonyou said yeah , Something like yeah .
CaptainYeah , like that . One cop just points his gun and shoots at the guy next to him in the car . Yeah , the US president gets killed and yeah , all the other people we see watching , they just yeah , um , I really like this movie , yeah , so like I think the idea sounds really stupid , but like the ratings were really good . So when I watched it I was like , you know , I I was expecting a good movie , but I was not expecting how no , this movie was hard to find .
WilsonIt was a shutter original .
CaptainI was like this is not gonna be good , but they the execution , the , the story itself of like we're a youtube channel , but you know everything's fake , and like we're just , you know whatever gets us money . Like yeah I don't know . They did that well , they did the . I don't know . They explained the background of the main characters the effects were pretty good the special effects were great . The demon at the end or lucifer at the end , where he has like um , I don't know , he's got like those smoke wings that come out like .
CaptainIt was really cool looking yeah um , actually , apparently a lot of that was , yeah , it wasn't special effects , like almost all of it was practical effects . But , um , yeah , I really yeah . And him , like coming out of the dead body of the fire , you know the charred body on the ground , like they go through that very slowly where I hit , like this human skin breaks apart and like a demon leg starts shooting out of it , like all the limbs it does them like slowly , individually , and then his , like you know his back opens up , like this carcass , you know a human body carcass like , yeah , spine like cracks open and like demon come out .
WilsonYou're like it had no business being this good , so good . I was like this is a sleeper , hit honestly .
CaptainYeah , when the notes slow down , that's how you know it's a good . Yeah , it's a great movie . But yeah , it's a lot of goop . But they did that gooping scene really well , I don't know . What do you think , jay ?
Jayit was really good . I mean , I was . I don't know what I was expecting , I didn't really see any of the reviews beforehand , but um , it's just really fun . I mean , you've seen a lot of horror movies and it just they take an idea that's been done a lot and they do something new with it , which you wouldn't expect is really possible , but I haven't really seen anything like this , almost like it's .
CaptainIt's similar to like our found footage , but it's not like shaky camera right , yeah , it's like we're watching a film of a like , a like something , something filmed in a movie . But you know , they just they execute really well yeah , I was like .
WilsonYou know , I feel like naturally , if I hear a movie's gonna be like about streaming , I'm like , but no , this was yeah I feel like we've done a few of those , but not too many the one where there's the time , something about we just did stream , yeah , so let's say oh yeah , hashtag horror um no , yeah , oh yeah .
JayHashtag horror no .
CaptainYeah , shame , hashtag horror . What a terrible film .
JayOh man .
WilsonThat one that got a weirdly large amount of listens on our .
CaptainOh yeah , I mean , it's bad , it's entertaining , but it's not so bad , it's good though . Yeah , it's just bad . It's like slime below a rama .
JayIt's just bad .
CaptainBefore we go any further , though , do you want our sponsor , jay , brought us ?
Wilsona sponsor .

CaptainI mean , I do like the numbs and goose .
WilsonNumbs and goose
Movie Analysis and Rating Discussion
WilsonNumbs , goose jab , I mean I do like the num-nums and hot goose Num-nums and hot goose we have a mug . Yeah , I got myself one of those mugs too .
CaptainI kind of like it , I love it . So yeah , Wilson , what do we got ? What do we got ? Num-nums Rotten Tomatoes 73 critics 64 audience , which is pretty good . That's pretty good . That's kind of what I saw .
WilsonYeah , it's pretty good , um , uh what .
CaptainI don't think we have like box office , because it's like streaming no , I , I mean I just yeah , I all I really got was people talking about how it's they consider it refreshing . Take on a well-traveled concept is what they said okay , yeah , so .
WilsonSo what would you give it ?
CaptainWhile we're talking about ratings I gave it a 4 out of 5 . On Letterboxd , did you do the same ?
WilsonI think I did . Yeah , it was like a 75% .
CaptainWait , you gave it a 75? . Yeah , I think I'm going to give this an 80 . A solid 80 .
WilsonJay , how about you ?
CaptainJay Day . Are you Loud Snack initiating ?
Wilsonover there , it's the Loud Snack Initiative , qsi .
CaptainThat's a LSI QSI . Are you giving me Uncle Impy again .
JayWell , I'd say this is about a real Vietnam . I would say 70s and 80s is right . Where you want it to be depends on what your bell curve is what is your rating ? This genre of movie simple , fun horror , I would say like 80 this hits the spot . This does what it sets out to do and does it well and with a budget that's probably like crazy small , like yeah , like I , I like that's better than like some big budget horror movies that have come out recently .
WilsonYeah because it was like basically one set yes , like a small yeah for the most part yeah , um , the this movie's 2019 right .
CaptainAnd then , yeah , drew is the most famous person and he didn't .
WilsonI don't really mostly know him from smile , which was after this , so like yeah , the cast didn't cost a lot of money yeah , which is nice for them , but oh yeah , I mean . So I think all the budget probably went into , like the special effects oh , definitely , but still yes yeah , yes , um , all right , well , so hot , hot goss . Oh yeah , throw some stuff in here .
CaptainYeah , I just looked up Amen because that's who they thought it was Like . There's a lot of Like . Basically throughout the movie there's hints about who this demon is and about how like you know , I can't remember all the things she says Something about how she knows , you know , about like the bible , and she was like I was there when it was written the ancient laws , yeah , oh yeah , and there was something . There was like two or three other things they said about how , like that they used for amen . But anyway , I just looked up like amen or amman , I don't know it sounds like it says both .
Captainit says also known as but in demonology , which is hysterical , he's a grand marquise of hell who governs 40 infernal legions and the seventh spirit of Gautier .
JayThat's a good resume , so he's kind of a big deal . He's like a regional man you would hire him .
CaptainNot everybody's a grand marquise . You would hire him .
WilsonI mean , I don't know what I'd hire him for . He's the king of Karens .
CaptainIt says he's the demon of life and reproduction is what it says .
WilsonWe didn't actually meet him . He'd be fucking .
CaptainWe don't meet him , but they talk about him a lot , the incantation that we hear how are you a ?
Jaydemon of life .
CaptainAnd reproduction . What does ?
Jaythat even mean Babies . Is he a gynecologist ? I don't understand .
WilsonMaybe he's the one that terrorizes humans most often he just deals with the life stuff . He's like a stork from hell . Yeah , there we go , okay .
CaptainAnd then , yeah , I cut in some questions here . So somebody that really likes this movie got this damon . What's his name ?
Captainlevec I think damian damian levec on an interview and he just put some stuff in . I just put some stuff in here that I thought was interesting about like , um , you know , like is he critical of staged paranormal shows and and you know , is there anything you want to say about those ? And he was like I've actually worked on unscripted TV , like reality TV , even working on opportunities of paranormal shows , and he's like I've never scripted them , but he knows a lot of them do Like they edit , they script it . You know it's a bunch of poppycock .
CaptainIt's not real . And like he said you know I'm not saying haunted houses aren't a real thing , he said , in fact , I believe that they are , but we just live in an entertainment driven culture and the power of editing is just very , you know , it's just very powerful , um let's do a sequel where they do a haunted house show you know it's funny . He talks about a sequel , or not a sequel , but a movie he wanted to work on after this . I think it's kind of like that I would watch that um , and then he talks about some influences .
CaptainLike you know , obviously the evil dead and exorcism , he said , were big ones . Um , he said it's kind of a cop-out but the exorcist is his favorite exorcism film . He said the tropes really wouldn't be what they are today without that movie . So he was trying to do something different and I think he executes that . It's unique .
WilsonOh yeah , oh yeah definitely .
CaptainBut that really was his favorite thing . And then , yes , he said he's really proud of the practical effects . He said we wanted to use more practical effects in the movie but you know they had a budget but a lot of people who were mistaken that the creature at the end was all CGI . It's not . He said 98% of it is practical . The only thing we couldn't do is like they went in and enhanced the glowing eyes and the mouth at the end .
WilsonThat is actually really cool .
CaptainThat's like so cool .
WilsonI want to see like behind the scenes for that .
CaptainOh yeah , true . And then they asked him you know , what did you decide to keep ? What did you change from the original 2016 short that this is based on ? And he said overall , the plot is the same , the ending's the same , but he's expanding an 18-minute short movie into a 90-minute feature film . So he's like I had a lot more time to expand the characters , their relationships . We could just bring focus to different people at different parts of the movie . But the biggest thing is that the girl in the chair in the short movie is not like in a relationship with the other characters , so like picking lane as being like you know a fiance to drew .
CaptainHe said that's how they could really expand . Why people would care so much about this .
WilsonIt changed the stakes are higher , basically Sure oh yeah , yeah .
CaptainBut yeah , he said I think that's the most thing that they changed . And then , yeah , he could just expand a lot so he could really work on how he wanted the feature to look and feel compared to just a 15-minute short .
WilsonRight , I just looked up the director's Instagram and I feel like there's probably some good stuff to see on there , because almost all of his posts have to do with the cleansing hour , so I'll have to dig through that later .
CaptainDamien Levesque . What a great name .
JayI know he sounds like a vampire .
CaptainHe does sound . Yeah , irma Beth is what I'm getting , yeah .
WilsonI really wanted to go in here to see if he had behind the scenes for the Lucifer character .
CaptainWait is his thing , damien Levesque , because why is it not showing up ?
WilsonYeah , did you spell it right .
CaptainYeah , no , I probably didn't .
WilsonI can send you his profile . Thanks , alright , I probably didn't . I can send you his profile . Thanks , all right . And then was that it for Hot Goose .
CaptainYeah , that's what I found , Did you ?
WilsonI mean I don't have anything else , I didn't . You did all the research , so I always do all the research .
JayYou already said he did . He directed a movie . A creature was starring .
CaptainYes , that was in 2023 .
WilsonWhat's your razor glass for this one ?
CaptainWait , I'm clicking on this link that you sent me first .
WilsonI mean , we don't have time to deep dive him right now .
CaptainI know , but I want to look .
WilsonYeah , that's fair . I want to follow , I want to look too .
CaptainOh yeah , creature Starring is on here . It's like what he's got On there . Okay , what is my rag . What is my rag ? I would like to raise my glass .
WilsonUm .
CaptainI feel like this is such a cop out . But I mean , the devil showing himself morphing from a dead fire body to full lucifer was pretty , was pretty cool . Oh well , I can say that one , but if that one is like stupid , if that was somebody else's , I can have something else so you're gonna say something else that could be somebody else's okay , well , you go . What's yours ?
Wilsonraise your glass clink , clink um I mean it's along the same lines like I , I expected there to be some hitch , like the exorcism's not going to go as planned or like something's going to happen . I didn't expect that and also I didn't expect like the mass , like possessions , at the end oh , I saw a couple of the reviews were like they love the twist of this movie yeah , so that was fresh .
CaptainI like that yeah , what about your razor glass ? Are you loud stacks ?
Wilsonno , everyone go back to their seats um , what's my razor glass ?
Jayso there's a lot of moments I liked in this movie . It's hard to pick just any one , um .
CaptainYou said you , oh no , that was the other movie .
JayNo , that was the slime polarama , that one . There's so few that .
WilsonThe highlights are shining , yeah , the highlights are very apparent .
JayYeah , I mean there's . I mean this isn't like a huge moment , but very early in the movie it's pretty creepy where the Shayla Vancock Scarlett . Vancockcock , scarlett vancock vancock . She's going showing up to this like I don't know where they're filming , but it's like a crazy abandoned warehouse super sketchy alley . She's in the alley , are they're in the alley ?
Jaythey're walking towards , I guess , where the filming is going on and there's like a lost
Behind-the-Scenes and Director Insights
Jayunhoused person in the in a sleeping bag onto the side and they're like hello , hello , have you seen ? This studio , okay , walks , a little bit more super shady . They're like man , fuck this . And they turn around and the unhoused person is gone . They're like start walking a lot faster .
CaptainThey're like you get a crispy rice krispies treat person and the creepy crawly crawling around crunchy crispy .
WilsonI like how she sees it the first time . She's like absolutely not person . The creepy crawly crunchy crispy . I like how she sees it the first time . She's like absolutely not . She's like it's wrong .
CaptainWe do get a crispy crunchy , creepy crawly person . We get those a lot . It's actually been a while since , I feel like we've seen one .
WilsonYeah , I haven't seen one in a while .
CaptainThe crispy crunchy crawly people are always creepy . Actually , that was the other one I was thinking about as well . So that was a good yeah , that was a good movie , a good moment , um , um , but yeah , scott van cox like reaction is pretty funny oh yeah great .
JayHuh , it's like that would have been great as a possessed person . Oh , scott van , oh my god uh watching a drag queen do a exercise .
CaptainI don't know if I could take it possessed person . It's like that would have been great as a possessed person . Oh , Skylar Vink . Oh my God , Watching a drag queen do an exercise .
WilsonI don't know if I could take it seriously .
CaptainNo , oh no , it would be so entertaining oh yeah , it would be so entertaining , Like you'd get the views you want . The verification check it's coming , you'd be like mother . Yes , Like pop . Yeah , exercise , she's mothering right now yeah , no , that's definitely what it would give , so I mean you'd get it .
WilsonMax was on to something he was , he was serving possessed what else we got before we close out with the uh wait .
CaptainDo you know what you're doing next week ? Uh , no , um , supposedly we're doing something called the commuter the commuter from 2018 , next week . No , supposedly we're doing something called the Commuter .
WilsonThe Commuter .
CaptainFrom 2018 .
WilsonThat sounds like a Jason Statham movie ? It definitely does .
JayI think it's the Beekeeper .
CaptainI think it . Is it not the guy that does the Naked Gun ?
WilsonSounds like a sequel to Speed , liam Neeson . We're watching a Liam Neeson movie . I think it's Liam Neeson . That's a horror movie . Yeah , it's like we're watching a liam neeson .
CaptainI think it's liam neeson that's a horror movie , it's a thriller .
WilsonA thriller , oh , I mean , we can fuck it off if you want me to , but , uh , maybe I'll watch a trailer like if it's , if it's like just a thriller skills I mean that cast is good though , vera and patrick wilson , exactly , I mean it's a good , sam neill's in there .
JayOkay , I'll watch the trailer I'm gonna talk about this earlier .
WilsonBut also I know we're excited for like weapons , but like the final conjuring is coming out , I believe this year oh yes , I hope that's better than the devil made me do it , but we'll see what's that called last rights ?
CaptainI think , wow , I really pulled that out of my ass . That sounds right wow this cast is like fantastic it's fire right , so like I mean we do .
JayYes , really , it's liam I guess they use all the money . I mean , this is a stacked cast okay , so we could do it .
WilsonDid it not do well ?
CaptainWhat ? No , I think it's our good movie . Oh wait , is it ? That's a 55% , oh no no , this is not our good movie . No , no , this is bad .
WilsonI mean it could be worse . That's sad , given how many people are in here .
CaptainIt's not good , jesus . Okay , so that's what we're doing next time . Advice wise Is that me , that is you .
WilsonBut you can ask for . I can phone a friend .
CaptainYeah , do you want to phone a friend ? We ?
Wilsoncan phone a friend .
CaptainWhat do we got over there , jay ?
WilsonUm .
CaptainWell .
JayBased on this movie . Yeah , and the advice I need to gather from these people based on a different movie , based on any movie you give a fuck about no
Favorite Moments and Final Thoughts
JayI would say if you happen to be filming a possession and it turns to a real possession and the demon's like if anyone leaves , we're gonna kill them , don't just immediately sprint towards the door , don't play around because immediately she was just like all right , I'm gonna instigate this person the statue mary statue impaled in the head .
WilsonShe probably had the most pleasant death out of . Yeah , it was quick .
CaptainYeah , she probably didn't realize it unfortunately oh my god we didn't even talk about chris and the demon dogs that attacked him and he's box cutting his own nut , his own jugular open yeah , talk about brutal death . That and the guy that's lit on fire .
WilsonUm , oh , my gosh sucks bruh , dude , I can't even do anything .
CaptainDude , that scene dude , we totally forgot about that scene . Like , okay , a poor one out that the box cutter to the neck . Yeah , I hate it .
CaptainIt was all him I hate it , yeah , and he's , yeah , he and he's , yeah , he's thinking that he's , he's cutting the dogs that are attacking him . He's like demon dogs , but he's just cutting himself and it's . You know , what's interesting is like he's like screaming because the demon dogs are like biting him in his head or like scratching him , but it's just him cutting himself with a box cutter , like really cool , like like I've never seen it , like I don't know .
WilsonThe movie really did do new stuff . It did that I haven't seen before everyone should watch it .
CaptainSorry , yes , highly recommend is where I want to end that , but um so your advice ?
Jaywe already gave it yeah um , don't run don't run from an evil possessed woman who tells you nothing , yeah yeah , it's like in a demon voice , Like don't run or I'll kill you . It's like it's dead . I'm like , what did you just say ?
CaptainOh yeah , listen to the demon . Yeah , okay .
