Frosty Preferences And Fast Food Lore
CaptainWe've started.
WilsonWe've started. How's it going?
CaptainIt's going good.
WilsonIt's going good.
CaptainI got a crispy farillo.
WilsonCrispy. Um, I mean, you like cold, frosty, crispy, or is it like chunky and crunchy?
CaptainOh, the thick one? No. No. Oh, with chunks.
WilsonChonks. Do you uh how do you what thickness level do you like your milkshakes?
CaptainRegular?
WilsonThere's a place bias that they like, it's a local shop and they make milkshakes, but to me it's just like sugary milk. It's just like really liquidy and I don't like it. Ew.
CaptainThat's gross. I'd rather have it thick.
WilsonYeah. You know, because then you can also always decide to have it not thick if you just wait a little bit.
CaptainYeah, that's very true. Um when was the last time you had a frosty? Have we talked about frosties?
WilsonFrosty, Jesus. Um I'm gonna say like right before COVID.
CaptainAh, you're missing out. I like my frosties like really thick. Well, they usually make them pretty thick, but um I like feel like I need to like I like try to like work for them. Like I like to drink them with a spoon. With a s with a spoon. Oh. With a straw. A straw. Um, they're really hard to drink with a straw, though.
WilsonYeah, I feel like you're just like sucking somebody's soul out with that one. It's just I feel like I'm just like damaging my body somehow.
CaptainYeah, sometimes you gotta spoon it a little. Yeah. I've never had the um maybe I had it once, the one that they turn upside down.
WilsonOh, Sonic? Or are you talking about Wendy's version?
CaptainNo, no, no, Sonic.
WilsonOr wait. No, Dairy Queen is what I'm thinking of.
CaptainOh, whichever one they turn upside down.
WilsonOh yeah, the blizzards, I think they're like, uh, look.
CaptainYeah, are those good?
WilsonUh I think so. I honestly don't get blizzards very often.
CaptainI don't know if I've had maybe once. I like I don't know. I do know that part of their marketing.
WilsonEven though neither of us could remember right away which uh restaurant had them.
CaptainThat's very true. Um, you know, uh I could look it up and find out who it was. You know what I mean?
WilsonOh, yeah. We I mean, you would have gotten there eventually. And also, if you if you just said the one that where you tip it upside down, a lot of people know what you're talking about.
CaptainAre we gonna get hate mail for not knowing immediately?
WilsonYeah, all those other people that always email us.
CaptainDon't you miss Tokyo Tokyo sometimes?
WilsonYou know, I was looking at our our stats, and I think Tokyo Tokyo is like our top listener ever. What? I don't know if they consistently still listen, but there's a lot of yeah.
CaptainI don't know if we're ever gonna know. Like, we're not gonna like ever be like, welcome, and like he comes in, or she comes in, or they come in.
WilsonYeah, they they would have to uh they'd have to email and be like, hey.
CaptainSurprise! Yes. Um, okay, well, maybe one day. Um, where what what did we what's what we got?
WilsonUh
Fall Horror Watchlist And Hype
WilsonI thought, I mean, so there's a bunch of scary movies that, well, this episode comes out, will have been out. Uh they're great. I love them. They were so good. Uh, but we have not seen them yet. Um uh but I was curious, like, um if you open that that link I put in there, out of those, like, are there are there any of those you're really excited to see?
CaptainOkay, let's see. Hold on. Just like eight. Buck everything up. Let me do this on my phone.
WilsonI only recognize like five of them.
CaptainFake van.
WilsonI'll just list them out loud while you pull that up. But um, it's Leviticus, Evil Dead Burn, Ice Cream Man, Insidious Out of the Further.
CaptainI thought Leviticus was out.
WilsonNo, I don't think so. I mean, tomorrow.
CaptainOh. Wow. Or I mean it's been out all summer. I was gonna say, you're just giving it away.
WilsonUh. Yeah. Um, Buddy, Onslaught, Resident Evil, and Beware. Uh can't, I don't know how to say that. B-O-I-U-N-A.
CaptainBut it's like a funky U.
WilsonIt's got the little accent.
CaptainYeah. Which one's the ditto? Like, is that the one with like the two dots?
WilsonOh, the I think it was an umlaut.
CaptainOomlaut. I knew it was like a fun word. I wish I was better with language.
WilsonWords are hard.
CaptainWords are so hard.
WilsonUh wait, so but uh which are those, the ones you recognize are you like most excited for? Or have you not seen the trailers for any of these?
CaptainI don't watch trailers. What the heck is Buddy?
WilsonI couldn't tell you. Oh.
CaptainWait, I did I think I did see the trailer for that.
WilsonIt has Toafs in it.
CaptainToafts.
WilsonYes, Toaf for Grace.
CaptainThis Toafs is in that movie.
WilsonThe one we're about to Oh, the premise. Oreo for real? The premise sounds kind of fun. A brave girl and her friends must escape in a uh kid's television show.
CaptainAre you like Oreo for Real right now? Like out of all the actors, out of all the moments we could be talking about this movie, a E-list actor.
WilsonE-list? I don't think he's E-list. He's just been in some okay movies.
CaptainI'm be honest, Wilson. That man is not a good actor. After this movie, he didn't have a lot to work with, but like, my god.
WilsonI mean, but I've seen him, he's been good in stuff, but I I think it was this one was a challenge.
CaptainWhat's one movie that he was like you would would I recommend his to see his range?
WilsonHe played I his character he played it well in uh Black Klansman. That was good.
CaptainHmm.
WilsonI don't know if I can list any others off the top of my head.
CaptainOh, is he the bad guy in that movie?
WilsonYeah.
CaptainOkay. Yeah, I guess he plays somebody that you would hate. Like he I could I could hate him.
WilsonHe can do that, yeah. Well, I want to see Evil Dead burn. I like all those newer Evil Dead movies.
CaptainYeah, Evil Dead, I think we've talked about this, but I get confused because it takes like a hard lift before. Like it was a certain type of movie and then it was like a very certain different type of movie.
WilsonYou mean like you're surprised every time you watch one of those movies that it like maybe this time it won't go left and then it does?
CaptainNo, no, no, I mean like the whole franchise, like they're very different.
WilsonOh, like each of the movies are it's not like watching a Halloween movie.
CaptainIt's like, okay, well, I know what happens in Halloweens, or like Friday the 13th movies. It's like they're there's not a big connection between these.
WilsonI mean, it's somebody reads from the book of the dead damned, the dead, and then like a demon comes out. But I guess they just pick like new new people each time.
CaptainYeah, it's like a souped up supernatural.
WilsonI mean, I I think it's fun. I like it. Oh, that does remind me something we didn't talk about. I want and this is related to that. Um I watched the new or like Lee Cronin's the Mummy recently, which everyone said is basically like really wanted to be an Evil Dead movie because it was the same Lee Cronin worked on the Evil Dead movies or something like that. Uh and it was because it the gore felt like an Evil Dead movie, um, but it was it wasn't good.
CaptainI heard it wasn't good. So I didn't watch it.
WilsonI mean, it was better than um Tom Cruise's The Mummy.
CaptainUm the other one.
WilsonYeah, the one from like 2017 or something.
CaptainYeah, I thought you were talking about something that was like brand new. I was like, what it what? Like he was like going back to like he was going head to head for like some other I was like, what? Okay. Um you have to finish I love boosters, by the way. Sorry.
WilsonOh yeah. Yeah, we just we went last night and finished that.
CaptainOh, okay.
WilsonUm you haven't seen it, right?
CaptainNo, but your ratings are not as good as I thought it was gonna be.
WilsonUm I honestly don't know if you would like it.
CaptainIt like I love Kiki.
WilsonOh, I mean she was really good. The movie, did you did you see sorry to bother you? It's like this Yes. Okay. Well then if you liked that, you'd probably like this. It like it just gets really wild.
CaptainYeah. It's a vibe. I mean, I didn't think that's the way it was gonna go, but I I I could be down for that.
WilsonOkay, as long as you're like open to that and to just kind of craziness, then maybe you'd like it.
CaptainOkay. I told you Oh wait, did I tell you I finally watched Magic Taylor? Yeah. No, yeah, yeah. Yes, okay. Um, I also I watched a movie called Monolith recently. I don't know if you saw that on the internet.
WilsonI did. Never heard of it.
CaptainYeah, never heard of it either, but we were looking for something to watch. Um it's honestly like, okay, remember that other podcast movie that came out recently? Um did you watch it? It's like undertones or something.
WilsonYeah.
CaptainYou saw that?
WilsonYeah, yeah. Because I I think we talked about an episode because we were like, Yeah, that's kind of how we do it, obviously.
CaptainYeah, it was like fine or whatever. I didn't like love the movie, but like monolith was like kind of reminded me of that, but like just a better it's just done better, honestly.
WilsonOh, okay. Because I I like the concept of Undertone, but it just like wasn't I don't know. It didn't do it right.
CaptainRight. And it gets like real dark. I don't know. I would recommend monolith, I'm gonna be honest.
WilsonWell, let me let me add it to my list. Whenever you're looking when you're you and Jay are looking for a movie, do you ever, if you can't find something, you're just like, I'll just pull it from the upcoming podcast episodes.
CaptainNo, you do that.
WilsonWell, no, I was just curious if you did. Like I said, you're trying to find something. Yeah.
CaptainNo, I like purposely try not to because then I'm not gonna want to watch it again. Or like all my commentary that I'm gonna think of on the spot, I'm not gonna like write that down.
WilsonOh, yeah. True. Okay.
CaptainI mean, sometimes there are things that he'll ask about watching, and I'm like, ooh, it's on the list. Sorry. But you know, we make it work, we find things, dude. I know um you said you hadn't watched it, but I'm gonna hope by the time this episode comes out that you have. Okay, but all of Widows Bay, season one was out. Bruh, it just finished. You have you have to watch it.
WilsonThe internet's raving about it.
CaptainYou have to watch it.
WilsonI think I yeah, after I'm still working on Grey's Anatomy, but I think after that's done, um, I might I might switch over to Widow's Bay.
CaptainOkay. I'm gonna need some deeds.
WilsonIs it that's not the guy that's in From, is it?
CaptainNo. Matt Rice. Rice.
WilsonYeah, I don't know. Why the this the dad from Frum reminds me of uh The Dad.
CaptainWhich one?
WilsonSorry. The uh the one with the wife that can't act. Well actually, I guess a lot of people on that show can't act. But um the she she like just in the season that I was watching, she got out of the town and then she went back. So her husband. Yes, Tabitha.
CaptainAnd her husband's Jim?
WilsonCouldn't tell you. Well, I just looked up the images of both, and I'm like, okay, they're I mean, they're clearly different people.
CaptainYeah, I mostly know Matthew from work. Um no, I looked it up and I was like, that's where I know from.
WilsonIs it the Americans?
CaptainNo. Oh Roadie. Um, no. It's carpal karaoke, no. Um hey, what was it? I like knew him specifically from something on his wiki, and I was like, that's it. He's he's a really good actor. He honestly should be in more stuff. I'm like kind of surprised I haven't seen him in more things.
WilsonI should probably get him on the podcast.
CaptainMy friend, yeah. I mean, like he's like in stuff, but I thought he was in um that show with Nicole Kidman. Or am I thinking about somebody else that I prepped for the podcast?
WilsonI'm gonna need more information.
CaptainIs that someone on the podcast? That show with Nicole Kidman that's called like it was on HBO.
WilsonBig Little Lies?
CaptainYeah. Wait. Something lying that you told me. Big Little Lies is some other show, I thought.
WilsonWell, as long as you're not getting it confused with pretty little liars.
CaptainOkay, to be fair. Yes, to be fair, they deserve to be um mixed up. Okay, well, you know, I'm looking at this, I don't know what I know I'm from, but he should be in more things. How do we feel? We want to peep on, pip on?
WilsonYeah, let's uh do want to bring us.
CaptainRay Poupon.
WilsonPoupon.
CaptainOkay. Welcome
Delirium Basics And Cast Highlights
Captainto the 196th episode of the Red Rum Podcast, where we review horror movies while enjoying adult beverage or two. And I'm Captain.
WilsonAnd I'm Wilson.
CaptainAnd this week we're reviewing the 2018 American Supernatural Psychological Horror film Delirium from 2018, and not to be confused with Delirium from 2018.
WilsonDo you know if this other one is like supposed to be any better?
CaptainNo. Um, like I know I have looked, and it's supposed to be just as bad. Um this is just a little hot goose that I'll throw out here now. But yes, two movies in 2018, Called Delirium, came out, both weirdly about like haunting weird stuff happening in a house. So like I don't even know how that happened, but like they're both called Delirium, which doesn't immediat immediately tell you it's about a haunted thing happening in a house. But um, that this one says a young man is challenged to reach the doorstep of a supposedly haunted house, and when he doesn't return, his friends have to go in after him, and they make a horrific discovery about the house's violent history.
WilsonInteresting.
CaptainSo it's like not that far off from this movie.
WilsonOh, here it is. Okay. I was like trying to even just find it.
CaptainIt's like what a quinky dink.
WilsonSo wait, the rating on that's 2.5.
CaptainOh, it's pretty bad.
WilsonOh, it's like 0.1 lower than the delirium we watched.
CaptainRight. They're they're both bad. We watched Delirium directed by uh Dennis. I don't even know.
WilsonIliadus? Ili that's my guess.
CaptainIliadus?
WilsonIliadus. I don't know.
CaptainOh, that's capital I and then lowercase L, and I got confused the way it's probably but who knows? Um Dennis, he's best known for his work on The Last House on the Left from 2009. We didn't do that, right?
WilsonUm I don't well let me look it up. I kind of think we did. But you know that features Sarah Paxton, the dolphin girl.
CaptainWait, really?
WilsonWe didn't wait hold on.
CaptainIs that when we had that dolphin girl conversation?
WilsonYeah.
CaptainOh, sure. I don't even know. I mean, we're talking like 75.
WilsonYou're close, it's 63.
CaptainOh, wow. Okay. Well, I couldn't tell you a single thing about that movie. I have no recollection. But this is also a Blum House film, which pros and cons. We don't know how we feel. Um, and then for casting, so I really did want to see Toferin do something. You know, he's a good, supposedly good person. Topher Grace is the main character in the series, and he plays Tom Walker. So he's known for his obviously Eric Foreman in that Sony show, but um, he also is Venom in Spider-Man 3, and he was like a side character in Heretic from 2024.
WilsonI don't remember him in Heretic at all.
CaptainI don't think he was important. And then we have Patricia. Why does it say Brody?
WilsonHow's her okay, like I guess her pro officer last name?
CaptainOh, Patricia Clarkson as okay, Barodi. Um, she is the mom in Jumanji and she was in Wendingo. Did we do that movie for the podcast?
WilsonI don't think so.
CaptainIt sounds so familiar. I feel like I've seen it.
WilsonUh we did not, but we said that word when we did Sororti Babes and the slime bowl harama. Okay.
CaptainI think I've seen it. I think I saw it uh unrelated to the podcast.
WilsonOkay.
CaptainUm, Patricia Clarkson also is an maze runner, and she's uh oh, that's what it is. Sharp Objects.
WilsonOh, she's fantastic. I feel like she pops up in like random uh movies and TV shows. Like her and Easy A, wonderful.
CaptainEasy A. Is that the one with Emma Stone?
WilsonYeah.
CaptainShe reminds me of that other woman that does a lot of those American horror stories. Not Jessica Lang, the other lady.
WilsonSarah Paulson?
CaptainNo, no, no, the older lady. Like that older lady that has like long Oh, wait.
WilsonYou're talking about um it starts with an F. Is it Frances O'Connor? I think. Is that it?
CaptainShe looks like she could be a Francis. Yeah, I don't know. Something about, I don't know, it's like their hair or maybe their complexion, but I Oh, I said it.
WilsonI was the wrong, wrong I was wrong. Frances Conroy is who I was thinking of.
CaptainConroy. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes, that's who I'm thinking of.
WilsonWell, I think she's like much older. Am I wrong?
CaptainNo, I know. But something about like, okay, like can you kind of see what I mean when I'm like like in that picture, definitely. Like, that's what I yeah. Um, yeah, Sharp Objects is that she's Adora in there. That's the Nicole Kidman show I was thinking of. Oh. So wrong person. Um, okay. And then we have Callan Mulvey as Alex Walker, so Tom's brother. Um, he's known for a lot of Australian TV show dramas, and he's also Jack Rollins in Captain America Winter Soldier and the same character in Avengers. He's somebody in Batman versus Superman, Dawn of Justice. Um, yeah. And then he also um is Bobby in Till Death, which um is a movie with Megan Fox. I think I watched that, but I don't think that was for the podcast.
WilsonYeah, I don't think we did that.
CaptainYeah, 2021, no, yeah, 2021. Um, and I I thought I put it in here, but maybe I didn't. But um, yeah, he's like he had that like terrible accent, and he's like blind in his left eye, right?
WilsonYeah, I was like looking up the story behind that scar around his mouth, and like I guess basically it said like the middle of his face was essentially smashed in, and then they had to like pull skin down. I was just like, oh my god.
CaptainYeah, they like grafted shit. You really can't. Tell looking at him.
WilsonYeah, whoever his surgeon was, or probably multiple surgeons. Yeah.
CaptainGreat job. Yes. Yeah. Is he still alive? Because like I don't recognize him from anything. But I guess he was in 2021, a movie from 2021.
WilsonI think he's still alive. Says he is.
CaptainOkay. I guess he's Australian, so he does like a lot of Australian things. Um, and then we have Ooh, Genesis. Who is she? Um Genesis Rodriguez, who plays Lynn. So she's like the love interest in the movie. Um, she's known for her role of Sarah on Entourage. I don't think I ever watched that show.
WilsonIt's a very bro show, I think.
CaptainSo say probably that. Um, and then she was the voice of Honey Lemon in Big Hero Six.
WilsonI love that movie.
CaptainI've only seen it once. I don't know who Honey Lemon is.
WilsonI just looked at the picture. I I yeah, I don't think it was that important of a character.
CaptainOkay. Um, she looks like uh like uh a bunch of other more famous people.
WilsonShe does.
CaptainUm, and then we have uh Robin Thomas who plays Efren Walker, who I think is Tom's dad. And he's known for his role. God, I don't even Mark Singleton Singleton in Another Life from the 80s, and then he was also on Who's the Boss? That was a sitcom, I think. Yeah. In the 80s, too. Okay. Um and then oh, I mean, this person, Harry Grohner as a psychiatrist, he's literally in the movie for like 30 seconds. Did you watch Buffy? I always mix this up. You didn't watch Buffy, you watched Charmed.
WilsonI would have I think I would have really liked Buffy. I just now it almost feels too late to start it because it's just like the fans are like really intense and I don't know, it feels like a lot to get into.
CaptainNot on, right?
WilsonNo, it's I I think they were trying to do a reboot and they got pretty far with it, and then it was suddenly cancelled.
CaptainYeah, I did I tell you I tried to wa rewatch Gossip Girl like a year ago. Oh. It's like you really can pick up on how bad some of the acting is. I could get there. So like I really wanted to finish the show because when I first watched it, I like fell off because it just got not good. Um, and when I rewatched it, I was like, oh, yep, here's where it gets not good. And I fell off again. I could not keep watching that. It was like, I what is it, season five? It gets like really bad. I just wanted to get to the scene where it finally reveals Gossip Girl. Like, I know who it is because it's the internet, but I'm like, damn, I like wanted to see that scene and I just gave up again because it's just it's I think it's season five, it just gets really bad. And there's like two more seasons after that or something, and I was like, I don't even know.
WilsonI I feel like it's not super often I run into a show where it goes so far off the deep end with so much left that I can't finish it, but the one that happened, like I watched a year or two ago, I watched Nashville like all the way through, and the last like two and a half seasons, I was like, I'm only watching this to finish it. Just all these storylines are just like, what are you doing?
CaptainI just feel like there's so much good TV that I I I feel like I'm wasting my time if I'm watching something that's not good. Yeah. So I d I don't know. I I just I I fell off again. Same thing with um um that show you told me to watch. I watched like five or six seasons of it. Uh you're confused. What um the one with uh a Gallagher.
WilsonUm oh shameless.
CaptainShameless, yeah. Yeah, and I was like, I can't.
WilsonI mean, they went to like season 11 or something, I thought.
CaptainI I don't know. I'm not the one with the answers. Um anyway, yeah. He's in the snowy for 30 seconds. It doesn't really matter. Um, all right, so maybe he's not good. Um honestly more confusing than
House Arrest Setup And Early Weirdness
Captainanything. Okay, so Topher, no, Tom, um, suppose like it starts out with him in his psychiatrist's office basically saying, like, I'm fucked up. Um, but also they're like letting him, they're releasing him from this like mental institution because his his wealthy father that died gave him the house, and it doesn't make any sense, but so for some reason they they're like letting him do house stuff as long as he like is under house arrest and he checks in with like a phone call. They didn't really explain like why they're letting him out of this mental institution.
WilsonYeah, I don't know, and especially to let him out on house arrest for only 30 days. It's like I mean, part of me is like, well, I mean, he's been in there for 20 years, keep him for 30 more days and then let him go with no house arrest if you're gonna do that.
CaptainYeah, unless like that's always like a halfway house or a halfway type like scenario where they're like you don't get to be like straight free.
WilsonOh, maybe.
CaptainBut like they they don't explain any of that. So I who knows? I mean I could be making that up. Um and anyway, he goes to this he gets sent to this house with Brody, his I don't know, parole officer, um, who, you know, almost seems like a little jealous of this house because it is like nice and there's a pool. Um, but she also like puts an ankle monitor on him and like tests his urine. Um it says she alludes to violent crimes committed by him and his older brother, but honestly, I kind of the beginning of the movie is like I I miss stuff. I don't need to be able to do that.
WilsonWell yeah, I was like I'm like it's it wasn't like drawing me in.
CaptainSo yeah, you were you were like, I'm already bored.
WilsonYeah, there was when we were like 37 minutes in, or like I just like touched on the thing to see how far in, and I was like, oh my god.
CaptainNever never a good sign. Never a good sign. Um but yeah, anyway, uh Tom's kind of like grody. Um he sleeps on a bare mattress, which I like can't get over. Um even though the house is fully furnished, like there had ha has to have been shoots there.
WilsonYou know, none of those bedrooms had like windows. I think his parents' bedroom was windowless, the room he was staying in was windowless, that hallway didn't have any windows.
CaptainI mean, isn't his dad like creepy?
WilsonWell, yeah.
CaptainOh well did we see the outside of the house?
WilsonWe there were some shots of it, yeah. I mean there the house did have windows.
CaptainYeah, just in the main the main like family room or whatever. Okay, um Yes. So I think Tom's hallucinating a little because he like has um trauma. So he like Yeah, so he's getting these weird calls that has like troubled voices, and he um seems like he's like having lapses of um I don't know, mental issues.
WilsonYeah, because well like part of it he's chugging um Nyquil and then he like wakes up later and like part of the house is destroyed.
CaptainYeah. Um before that, I think before that he finds the he finds the tongue in a mason jar, which in the around the indoor pool panel, um, which he writes off as another like hallucination. Um he's like yeah, um he does meet Lynn, which is um yeah, basically like a Mark Ubre's girl. She's like delivering food that he ordered. Um, and she decides that, you know, I don't know, she gets like flirty with him and she enters his house and jokes about his ankle monitor. I'm like, never. When like when would I I just don't understand why you would enter this person's house and they have an ankle monitor? Um, and she said that she knows some stuff about the history. Like she says, I'm sorry about your dad dying. So it's like, okay, so you know like something about the people that live here. Um and anyway, Topher er Tom seems interested in her. Um oh, that's the other thing. He's he's imagining the dog that doesn't uh that's not around anymore. Yes.
WilsonLike and I think imagining he's imagining that, and you mentioned he's uh like hallucinating his dad with like half his face melted off, but he also finds he's there's like a hallway behind the walls in his house with little peepholes into the bedrooms. Yeah, so what's the deal with that?
CaptainSo he is um in the house and he see he like sees an armoire like shaking to the point where a picture frame falls off and cracks, and his he decides to push that armoire out of the way to see what's back there, and there's a secret hallway, and I'm like, so something was back there big enough to like shake an armoire to a picture falling off, and we're just gonna just gonna kick it on back there. Yeah, we're just gonna just gonna see what's going on back there, like crazy. Um, so he discovers that secret tunnel, and it has like all these weird peeples into like every room of the house. So like it's kind of alluding to his dad being like weird and creepy. Um, but then it also may allude to like Tom being the weird and creepy one. Um I don't know, maybe both. But um, there is a scene where Tom is looking at his own bedroom from inside the puphole, and his bedroom door opens, so he's viewing that from the back hallway, and it looks like it's Tom himself that runs up, right? Yeah. Like a duplicate of him, okay. Um, and then he freaks him out, and he like runs out of the house, but then his ankle monitor starts going off, so he comes back in and he calls the parole officer because he's like, Hey, I'm kind of like lonely, like I don't know how to do this like without anybody. Which, to be fair to the parole officer, does kind of sound like a booty call.
WilsonIt does.
CaptainUm, because it was like late at night, and she like comes over and they like drink together, and then she like kisses him, and he seems very confused and was like, Bruh, that was not what I was trying to do, which makes her angry. She's in the wrong, period. But I understand why she felt that way. Yeah. Um, but yeah, the power dynamic here, nucked. Um, and she gets mad and steals his pills that are supposed to like minimize his hallucinations.
WilsonSmart. Yeah. That makes perfect.
CaptainI know, right? Like, you could like kill somebody doing that. Um, so yeah, he's hallucinating a lot more. He he hallucinates his mom drowning in the pool that he's swimming in. He finds that tongue in the jar. Uh, he sees like a home video. He's like watching old home videos, and he sees a home video of somebody crawling up from the floor um with like this box on their head. Um, I called it like it's like it looks like a stone, but it's like very heavy looking. Um and it's very creepy. Um but he doesn't seem to really remember any of that. Um and then we find Alex who has entered the house, and it is supposedly his committed older brother, and Tom doesn't understand why Alex is not in prison anymore, which I guess he escaped.
WilsonI think that's I mean, I think that's what they're implying. Because the at one point the cop is like, your your brother like died in a fire at the prison.
CaptainOh I see. He like faked it. Okay.
WilsonBut this whole time he thinks that he's just hallucinating his brother, and then he's like not sure.
CaptainYeah, and us at the us as the audience can't tell either. Like, we're like, is Alex not real? Like, it doesn't seem like he's real. He's even says stuff like, is this what we really want? Where it's like, okay, but why would you say it like that? Because like you're not a team, like you you guys haven't seen each other in 20 years, so I I'm not really yeah. Um but Alex seems to be like an overpowering presence in Tom's life, um, where he just seems like really strong and he like you know pushes Tom to do stuff. Um and I think yeah, the house he wakes up with the house being trashed and he assumes that it's Tom that did it, but or sorry, Alex that did it, but like again, we don't know as the audience either because he's like clearly blacking out. Um Lynn appears in the house again um because Tom uh called her and asked if he could if she could like help steal some drugs from the pharmacy at the place she works to make up for the pills that he had stolen from him by the parole officer.
Murder Backstory And Brother Drama
CaptainUm and they talk and like Lynn really wants to know like what's the story behind this news article that she pulls out, and Tom and his brother were apparently involved in murdering a girl, a teenager when they were younger. So Tom basically says, like, I was rejected by this girl in school. I was like humiliated by everybody, and when I told my brother about it, Alex, he decided he was gonna murder that girl, but he made me be involved. Like he made me watch, he made me help bury her, um, and I was like all fucked up from it, but then my brother clearly liked it because he did it again by himself. So that's the story that we get.
WilsonAnd I think they caught his brother after the second killing, and then they didn't believe Tom when he said he was chained up during the first killing and assumed he was also responsible.
CaptainBut when he confesses, I guess he oh, he played like insanity insanity, so that's why he got in the institution instead of in like regular prison. I don't know. There's like back and forth with Tom and Alex a lot about like money and I I don't even realize that.
WilsonI don't really understand his brother's like motivation. Like, I think he wants money, but he also wants to kill people because he thinks that Tom can't do it but wants to.
CaptainYeah, I'm very confused. Yeah, he said some multiple times in the movie where he's like, I'm I'm just doing what you what you uh want but can't do, or something. And I I'm like, I don't and then there's that weird line where it's like two brothers make one person. I'm like, what is going on? Yeah. It's like it's not like you're twins, because like I could see I mean, not that that's like a thing. I could just it's like a a trope. Like I could see that being like a thing, but I'm like, I don't know what's going on. And then they allude to the fact that like their dad fucked them up. Like they watch a video of their dad made of um like the night before he committed suicide, and I'm like, I'm not really sure what I'm getting from this video, but he basically says, like, it's my fault, or like I don't know.
WilsonIt's honestly didn't listen to like the monologue because it was like it was boring.
CaptainTom gets um almost relief from it because he thought his dad hated him, and his dad basically just says, like, it's my fault, and I'm sorry. And I'm like, I don't think this is relieving. I don't think this is supposed to be a relief uh video. But anyway. Um, so last time Lynn was here, Tom like basically kicked her out hard. He was like, Thanks for the pills. I told you my sad, nice sad story, like you need to leave. And he was also like protecting her from Alex because Alex, although Tom is sure he's a hallucination, seemed to be getting more violent. Um, or like, yeah. So Lynn comes back over and she said, I feel bad how things were left, and like I really want to talk to you and open up to you, and like I might understand you more than you think. And she gives him Salab's story about how she was bullied in school and she like cut herself. I'm not really sure how that's like that relatable to Tom because like I I don't know, it's not like Tom was suicidal.
WilsonYeah, like I don't know why this is like one of the like normally I feel like I'm complaining that we don't get enough like character motivation or like a backstory, but like I don't need I didn't need her story, it doesn't add anything.
CaptainI would ha rather have other story, like not her story.
WilsonYeah.
CaptainUm yeah, so anyway, they like kiss and um you know whatever. I I think there's there's weird time things that happen. Like she says, like, I'm gonna go to the bathroom, and then Tom somehow is like running through the house, finds a weird tunnel that leads to a vault, um, or like a bunker underneath the pool. Um, when Lynn comes back into view, she's like hurt and unconscious. So I'm like, what the fuck happened? Um, and right as Tom is about to try to like help her and get her out of the house for help, the parole officer uh enters the house and it looks bad. Looks like he hurt her. Um, so the parole officer like shows up and is gonna like stop him. And then Alex comes up and stabs the parole officer. I was like, cool, cool, cool.
WilsonOkay, so he's real. Um yeah.
CaptainWell, even in my head, I was like, maybe this still is Tom. Like, because if we're getting it from Tom's perspective, I'm like, I I mean, who knows what's really good.
WilsonThat's true, it still could be a twist.
CaptainYeah. I mean, again, probably giving the movie more credit than it deserved. But um, yeah, I even thought like Lynn wasn't real because I was like, okay, that'd be kind of interesting. Um, but anyway, uh the pro officer gets stabbed. Alex is like, I'm real, bruh. Um, and you're right, right before she gets stabbed, she mentions that he like died in a in a fire or got burned in a fire, and he Tom's like, so he's dead, but he's not.
Bunker Reveal And Violent Climax
CaptainUm and then Alex basically attacks Lynn. Um, he tries to like uh get free and like beat him up, but it doesn't really work. Tom gets I think briefly Alex goes down into the bunker and sees something and then comes back up and still like goes after Lynn, but he also throws Tom back down in that bunker, and Tom goes when he's down there, um, he realizes that um like there's a phone in there, which is the one that's connected to the phone above that has been receiving all these weird calls, and then he finds this like old emaciated woman. Um and he's like, Who are you? I'm like, This is so obviously your mother that disappeared. Literally, it's the same actress, like her face is the same. And he's like, Who who could you be? I'm like, sir. So it's like clearly his mom has been a prisoner down here for like God knows how long.
WilsonAnd you're telling me, so one, the dad cut off her tongue, but also he planned like he planned a suicide, recorded a video, but then just left her locked in this like pneumatic chamber.
CaptainYeah, I'm like, what the fuck is going on? Um dad's definitely all fucked up, but I like I don't I don't quite understand the motive either for that. Like the dad made it sound like his mom their mom hated them and she wanted to run. I'm not really nobody makes any sense in this movie. Um anyway, she's here. She can't really communicate because her tongue's gone, but she's here, and Tom's like, oh my god, my mom. And he like frees her and like undoes her chain and then like tearfully hug. Um but Alex comes down there, brings Lynn with him as collateral, and says, like, I need you to open the safe that supposedly has all this money in it, um, according to Tom, because that's like what he's been looking for, supposedly. And how I mean, how long is their mom alive? Like five minutes, maybe? Shoots her.
WilsonI'm like, are you fucking serious? This poor woman, like a rich white dude kept her captive for like 20 years. Yep. And then as soon as she's freed, she gets shot.
CaptainI'm like, what a bitch. Um, Alex. I mean, so um, so anyway, Tom does eventually open this safe, and there is money in there, so like it's you know, that's what Alex wanted. But they are struggling um with the gun, and basically they create a pressure burst where all the pool water comes through the floor into where the room that they are in in this bunker, and it shatters this like glass wall that was up, and they get you know, glass shards and water coming like spewing at them. And Tom goes out of his way to make sure that Lynn is okay. Um, and then basically like makes sure that Alex doesn't get saved. He like kicks him, so he for he's like forces him to get flooded in that room. Um oh, and luckily, um The mom is not dead, and she finds the neck chain that she had all around her neck and puts it around uh Alex's necks at the end. And you you were very correct with like, good for her. Yep. Good for her. Yep. Um, so yeah. Now the very end of the movie is Tom and Lynn like beaten and battered, uh, wet, like kind of walking out of the house with their hands um clasped. And I'm confused because at the very, very end, they walk outside and Lynn and Tom's hands break apart, and then it goes to the officer that's like, Are you Tom Walker? And he says, Yes. But I'm like, there's no addressing Lynn. Like, is she not real? Like, their hands break apart right before the officer talks to Tom.
WilsonI think. My opinion is I don't think there's any special meeting there. I think they were going because they were called that his like check-in machine was broken.
CaptainSo that took them forever to to respond to that.
WilsonBut I think they're just there for him, and like that's who they're like they're looking for.
CaptainOkay, so like Lynn is real.
WilsonI think so.
CaptainCause like I wanted to I there's so there's so little about this movie online um that I don't know if I'm gonna really be able to get an answer.
WilsonYou could DM is it who's it? Dennis? Dennis?
CaptainLynn ArdiCaprio.
WilsonYes, who we didn't mention as a producer for this movie.
CaptainUm Google AI says that she's real. Um there are.
WilsonWow, you were just saying earlier you don't use that.
CaptainI literally hate it. I hate it so much. Um it literally is so annoying. Um, there's a discussion on Reddit from Jesus, seven years ago about people saying, like, I think the entire thing was in his head. So the top comment, this movie made no sense from the start. But it's nice to see Tilfer Grace in something that's not that 70 show.
WilsonFair enough.
CaptainUm anyway. Oh, is he an orange's new black? No, that's the other lady. I'm stupid. Um anyway, I don't know. I I wanted to give this movie like more than what it was offering, so that I was like, maybe Lynn's not real. Maybe Lynn's a figment in his imagination that was like the girl that rejected him when he was younger.
WilsonLike I kinda I mean, I see where you're coming from. I think for this movie, I'm like not tired of, but we've watched a lot of movies where like they weren't real. And um I like this like cut and dry, well, sort of cut and dry. Like he wasn't actually crazy. His brother's crazy. But like his brother's crazy. Most of the things he saw were real things.
CaptainI don't know.
WilsonUh
Ending Theories And Production Fallout
Wilsonyeah. I mean, that doesn't mean I liked the movie, but um, I couldn't really find anything about budget.
CaptainUm box office, I have like literally like 40 or 450k. Um because it was pulled from the theater calendar a month before the showing. The studio quietly dumped it directly to DVD and digital platforms. Um, it had supposedly a lengthy period of post-production delays, um, which I don't know. They weren't theaters deemed it like a financial risk for a widespread cinema rollout.
WilsonI can see why. This definitely feels like a streaming movie.
CaptainIt a hundred percent. Um, I'd be mad if I paid money to see this in theaters. Um, so yeah, for Rotten Tainos, I don't really see a critic score. Um, it had a 47 from the audience. Really? It's like better than I thought it was.
WilsonYeah, I don't really believe that.
CaptainJust Toper Grace fans. Um, yeah, and then there's not like a lot of hot goss on this movie, besides it was just like a fire, dumpy fire. Um but Patricia Clarkston, who is the pro officer in this movie, um was starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island. I cannot I never remember if I watched that.
WilsonI might have seen it, but I I actually can't say.
CaptainIs there a lighthouse on the cover or something?
WilsonMaybe.
CaptainUm anyway, that's hot goose because DiCaprio worked as the producer on this movie. Um and then I talked about the two movies that were both from 2018 called Delirium. Um and then I saw this um comedy writer wrote a Hunter Lang wrote a um a uh comedy piece about this movie, like a review, and she was like, guys, I can't express to you how much I hate this manic pixie hot topic wet dream of a character. That's talking about Lynn. Talking about Lynn. Um she's at her job and for some reason can't resist the squirrely hermit man in a musty mansion who just ordered fruity pebbles, and she marches into his house, and that's when I knew this movie was written by by a man in no world would a woman willingly enter a house of a stranger with an ankle monitor. And I was like, that is so true.
WilsonThat was a good point, and I really like her um use of adjectives in that review.
CaptainYeah, I mean, I don't know like exactly where this girl's working, but she pulls up in like uh like already like pre-ripped bot leggings or like tights and like a crop top and like a biker boots, and like I'm it's just such a thing. It's like so much it's like a full like you're at work though.
WilsonYeah, it's a weird outfit for 2018, also.
CaptainYeah. I mean, I could see it, but did I tell you the other this was like a month ago. I saw I was in a CVS and I saw somebody in like a full like A plus like goth outfit, which I feel like I hadn't seen in forever, but like the entire thing had to tell full goth. I was like, I don't know, it's like would never be me, but I'm like kind of down for like the full, you know, the the gag of it all. It's like the full thing.
WilsonI was kind of surprised when like I mean, I knew that was a huge thing in high school, a lot of people dressed like that, but I was in a way I was surprised, but also I guess pleasantly surprised to see as an adult that it like it's it exists outside of just angsty high school kids. Like it is its own like uh kind of culture kind of thing. I don't know.
CaptainYeah, I I don't really see people like that in public very often, so I like felt weird, but I I was like I definitely was looking at her longer than I should have.
WilsonBut it's also like live your life, you know?
CaptainYeah, I'm not like looking because I'm like ew, I'm like looking because I'm like, oh. But like I can't like verbalize that out loud because that's like even weirder.
WilsonUm Yeah, and she probably would have hated that or he or whoever you were looking at, but if you're just like I love your look.
CaptainYeah, because like I'm you know, I'm in like uh a floral dress. Like, what is we're not I don't I don't think she would return the compliment. I don't know, it's just like it's just weird. But I'm like down for the you know, we're like I like the maximalist of it. Like, I'm like, yes, like do it. There's so much of like I don't know, like a cling, like a clean or like natural look, and I'm just like like do it, like do the whole thing. I'm like, I don't know. Um makeup's fun. So um I don't really uh the my big takeaway from this movie that we just watched is that it's um confusing and not good.
WilsonYeah. Do you have a raise? It's confusing oh oh my god.
CaptainUm I know it's boring. Um do you have a raise glass? I don't know if I picked one out. Or I I didn't pick one out, but I could probably pull one.
WilsonI mean, I guess I was like gagged at you know, Alex just like stabbing Patricia Clarkson in the back of the neck. I wasn't I wasn't expecting that.
CaptainYeah, I wasn't expecting that either. Um I feel like there was one point where I was like kind of like jumpy. Not jumpy.
WilsonI mean it's not a jumpy movie, but there was something that I feel like I mean was it when his like double popped up at the Yeah, that was pretty good.
CaptainI think when his double popped up at the people, that was pretty good. Um I was mostly grossed out by the movie. Like the pro officer kissing himself gross, the finding his mom in this chamber downstairs, I'm like, he is making he's really good at pretending that it smells disgusting, and I was like, I'm nauseous just by watching you be disgusted by this. I I'm imagining the smell you're smelling.
WilsonOh yeah, and also there was that line where I think at the time we thought Alex was a hallucination, but he's just a dark figure. Whenever Tom was looking through the people and he's like, Oh yeah, I forgot you liked a watch. And I was like, What?
CaptainYeah, very gross. Yeah. Yeah, the whole thing's, yeah, there's a lot of gross. I don't know. Um yeah, I think the people one's probably the double. Is that is that your or do you have a different race of glass?
WilsonI I guess it's just how I was surprised with the they got me with the Patricia Clarkson getting, yeah. That's what's your what's your letterbox rating for this gonna be? Oh, did you already read it?
CaptainI did, so you probably trashed it. I did. Uh let's see, can I just find it from you? Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. One star, huh? Um I think I would give it a one and a half. Barely.
WilsonBarely, yeah.
CaptainUm just because there are there are ones. Um, so yeah, that would be like what, a 25 or something.
WilsonYeah, somewhere around there.
CaptainYeah, I think I'd give it a 25.
WilsonI just added uh a written review to this movie, and I said not even Patricia Clarkson could save this.
CaptainYeah. Wait, I see you liked some other people's comments from this movie.
WilsonOh, yeah, that's one of the most fun things to do. I don't know if you do that when you rate movies, but like No, how do you do that? You just when you go to the movie, scroll down, look at reviews, and then like they're sorted by most liked.
CaptainOh, I never scrolled this far down.
WilsonOh, there's some good good reviews on movies.
CaptainLeonard Arnard DiCaprio produces the most random shit.
WilsonI mean the reviews on this one, the comments aren't like that good, but um it's kind of like when you go look at a movie review on Reddit. Uh just like the top comments, you see some good ones in here.
CaptainReddit's so long-winded, though. These ones are like short and straight.
WilsonYeah. I mean, some people do get long-winded. I'm like, if it goes beyond this preview message, I'm not gonna read it. Well, most likely.
CaptainUm yeah, I I don't know. It's not my favorite. Um, anyway, next week, right?
Ratings Takeaways And Next Week
CaptainYeah. Next week we're doing Aratnophobia from 1990 um about some spies. Um I don't like spiders, but I feel like you could watch this movie, even if you don't like spiders. Um god, takeaway from this so grungy nasty. I don't even know. Nothing is exclusively Tom's fault.
WilsonSo, like I mean, he should have called the police on his brother in the first place.
CaptainYeah, but he didn't think he was real.
WilsonSo, like when he was younger, when his brother, like oh killed two people.
CaptainYeah. Yeah. But I don't want my I don't want my advice to be called the police.
WilsonYeah, that's fair.
CaptainUm I think don't try to scare women to death.
WilsonI think that's part they they were they were gonna play that prank of like they wanted to scare her.
CaptainI'm like, just don't yeah, especially while they're driving or whatever.
WilsonI don't know, whatever was happening.
CaptainLike yeah, I can't even remember what their story was. Um I don't know, man. Bullying is tough. Um the whole thing's all systemic issue. Uh what else? Uh what do we got? This one's tough. I would say um, yeah, his therapist was terrible. His psychiatrist was terrible in the beginning. He really needs to get a better psychiatrist. And a parole officer. Yeah, and a brother, girlfriend. I don't know. I want my advice to be like recognize when you're around people that aren't good for you, and then get better people. Wow.
WilsonThat's that actually useful advice.
CaptainThe best I could do for this day.
