SPEAKER_01

Welcome to the Rock Solid Families Podcast. I am Linda Hutchinson here, the executive director of Rock Solid Families. And all month long we've been talking about our purpose and our calling and differentiating between the what of the purpose and how we go about it and walk that out in our everyday lives. And so, you know, last month we focused on identity in Christ and really the freedom we find when we have that identity in Christ. And so if you miss July, please, please go back and listen to it because it really does build on each other and it helps you understand a little bit about where we're going the month of August. But the who has to come first, then it affects everything else. And so we're going to be digging into that some more. But before we do, we are super excited to introduce one of our four new faith-based coaches, Kristen Roland from Roland Wellness. Hey Kristen, how are you feeling? How did you feel about uh being roped into being the first to come on the podcast?

SPEAKER_03

We were at um who's your ice and Linda looks over and she's like, so who's gonna who's gonna be first? And she like I felt the eyes right on me. And so here I am. It worked out, worked out.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we were at one of our sponsors, the Who's Your Ice House, and oh my gosh, it was so good.

SPEAKER_03

So good. I had never been there before, and I already want to go back.

SPEAKER_01

It was so good. Yes. I actually have a hard time picking out what I want to eat. So um, yeah, but they're one of our sponsors, and we are so thankful for them. And as a matter of fact, we want to thank all our sponsors. We want to thank the Who's Your Ice House, Casey's Outdoor Solutions, and Maxwell Construction for their support of what we do here at Rock Solid Families and the Rock Solid Families Podcast.

SPEAKER_00

SPEAKER_01

And you are one of our four coaches that are joining us this August. And man, I'm telling you, I am about to bust with excitement. And it has been so hard to keep it a secret, but we've had, you know, we've had some things we had to do. And um we also, you and I actually destroyed the podcast studio before we started. So I thought we'd be drenched in a sweat, but we don't look too bad. Sorry, Andy, we kind of messed things up a little bit. But tell us a little bit about Kristen because I want our listeners to hear, and maybe some people who are really looking for some faith-based coaching. Tell us a little bit about you and you growing up and your and your family. Tell us a little bit about that.

SPEAKER_03

So I grew up in Batesville. I was born and raised in Batesville. The only time I have moved out of Batesville was attending college. So did not know that. Yes. So I only moved out of Batesville for a little bit. And then got married to um my high school sweetheart, and we have three beautiful kids together.

SPEAKER_01

So you didn't know your high school sweethearts.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. So I asked him, and then I never learned how to play the guitar, and we started changing this.

SPEAKER_01

By the way, speaking of guitar, he can I don't even know the lingo, but man, that guy can play. And just watching him play has been really cool worshiping and stuff like that. So that's really neat. So you know, we are bringing four new uh network coaches on our team, and they're all by both bivocational, which means that they have another job. And so tell us a little bit about what you're doing besides coaching at Rock Solid Families.

SPEAKER_03

So I work at a I'm doing a temporary job at Batesville Primary School where I'm working with small groups of kids and helping them. And then I actually own my own small business.

SPEAKER_01

So tell us a little bit about that.

SPEAKER_03

I own, it's called Rollin' Wellness, and I developed it in, oh gosh, it's been three years now. And the vision was behind it very feel like my faith has grown immensely over the last several, probably four to five years. I've always been very faith-based, but the last four years leaning into God's calling for me, finding my purpose. Oh and perfect. Yes. So I have, yeah, it's just been um an awesome adventure, a leap of faith, very scary, but also very rewarding because I know God's not gonna let me fail. And so yeah, I uh do several different things. I do uh youth, adult coaching. I do I love me some fitness. I'm the weird girl that likes to work out. So um there's fitness classes. I have created a program which is super cool. Hopefully, we get into how we intertwined later. Um it's a cool, it's a cool God story. Um yeah, but I created a program called Embrace You Are and you guys, the Rock Solid actually sponsored it a couple years ago. And it's an eight-week after school program where we just dive into these kids' lives and teach them about you know, gratitude, confidence, healthy relationships, just trying to get them on the right foot to lead. Um good filled.

SPEAKER_01

I love that. I love that, and I can't help but look at your t-shirt, a wave of hope. And so um, what I love about Kristen and what she's doing really in the community and for people in our families is really offering that hope, um, bringing that into um our community. And so I finally did get my own t-shirt, by the way. You know, I just gave it to her before this started. I was giving her such a hard time, but no, it has really been cool. But you know, Kristen, let's so you work with kiddos, um, work with teens and young moms, and so let's let's talk a little bit about women, okay? Because um, you're a busy working mom and wife, okay, and it's about ready to get busier with the beginning of school. And so, what scriptures anchor you when your mind starts to race and you start to get anxious or overwhelmed?

SPEAKER_03

I was thinking a lot about this because there's different ones, but I um settled on Psalm 46, verse 10, and it's very simple, but it's just be still and know that I'm God. Because we live in a we live in a chaotic world where we always have a device in our pocket that always makes a noise and you instantly want to go towards it in texts and emails. We're always we're never, I don't want to say off work, but you know what I mean? We're always at everybody's needs, and sometimes we just need that time to just step away. So be still. I'm I think I've told you I've been I met a group of ladies through Rollin' Wellness and um my uh church that I go to, and they've been my saving grace in so many ways. I didn't know I needed them in my life, and they have changed it in more ways, and we do Bible studies together, and for the longest time, be still kept coming up, and we all just were like, This is what we need. Like, we need time to just be still, yeah, and just yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm learning that too. I have a very busy mind and uh I stay down in the physical realm and the flesh of worry, right? And being consumed and feeling overwhelmed and stressed. And so really it is about entering into that upper story, into that upper realm, that spiritual presence of the Holy Spirit, where you can be at work, you can be doing something, but it's really about tapping into that presence of the Holy Spirit and being still in his presence and knowing he's got you. Yes, right? Yes. So I love that verse, it is one of my favorites. So what makes you feel called to be a life coach? You know, what what was it that kind of drove you to do what you're doing now? Oh, this is gonna be a long story. I'll try not to bore you.

SPEAKER_03

Um several things throughout my life. Um, my grandma was my biggest inspiration growing up. She was my best friend, and she always listened to me. When I would sit by her, she would be like, bless your heart. Like she just listened, and I loved every time I felt I would gravitated towards her because I'm like, she sees me and she hears me, and I want, I want to be like her. And so I've always been the always been the friend that people go because I'm I feel like I am a good listener and I love to listen and I love to help people. And then random things through my life, but I randomly got not random, purposeful, Holy Spirit, absolutely, yes. Thank you for correcting me. Yes, definitely Holy Spirit driven. And yeah, I got this random PE position, and I think that's what led me into this life coach. So someone asked me to be the PE teacher temporary position. I prayed so much about it because I left a full-time job that was very it was a it was a good job and I loved it, but I was like, prayed, asked God, help me. And I took a leap and I stopped my big income to be a three-month gym teacher. And at the end of that role, I had nothing to go to. And it was the most amazing three months. Terrifying, terrifying, all the things. Like I literally probably prayed every morning, like, God, what is this? What is this? What are you doing through me? And I realized that I became as I feel like I came a coach through the PE position. Like these kids were just coming to me and telling me hard things. And I I was helping them, and it was so cool to see the the smile they did when they got to see Mrs. Roland when they walked through the door, and I was like, God, I think this is what you want me. Is that what brought you back going back to school to get your master's? Yeah. So psychology. Yeah. So yeah, the gym teacher, and then another position came up, and I just kept rolling in these positions that led me to help these kids and work through their trauma, their anxiety through all the things. And yeah, so I finally scary again, but I was like leaned in and listened and went back to school and got a master's. It's in positive psychology. So it's very much about growth, like where you are now, where can where can we take you if you're navigating challenges, how to just work your way through.

SPEAKER_01

You know, it is so funny. Um, I was a teacher by trade and uh quit teaching to stay home with my kiddos, most important job, I think, for a parent to do. And um four years of that, and I was pulled into an office one day at our church and said, I would really love for you to apply for the children's ministry position. And I was like, Okay, I have no Bible college degree, you know. Yeah, but this person said, You love the Lord and you love kids, and that's what matters. And so God just took care of the rest, right? Like I went back and got my master's in pastoral counseling and biblical studies and and and learned how to do this position well, but it was like the calling came first. Uh-huh. And the same thing with Rock Salad, you know, I was thinking I was in my last career before retirement, and God called me out of that full-time position at a church, director of pastoral care, to come and be a part of Rock Salad. And that was a scary leap of faith because I was the one holding the city paycheck and the 401k and the the health insurance. Yeah. And Merle was the one saying, No, I think God's calling us both. And I was like, holy cow! Scary. That is scary. That is scary. But look what it's turned into. It's crazy. Yeah. So I know you're just getting started, okay? And uh I I just want to know what's been the most rewarding part of this journey so far. Um, just kind of taking this leap of faith, being willing to come on board on our team. You know, what what's been the most rewarding thing so far and what's the most exciting thing maybe you're looking forward to?

SPEAKER_03

I think the most rewarding is just seeing the the positive relationships that come out of it and just you know, leaning into what I feel like God's calling me to do and seeing like it fulfills me so much to just help and see the life that comes back into these kids and people and now rock solid. So do you remember it was three years ago was it three years ago? How's it long? That long, I think it's three years ago. I when I got on at um Batesville Intermediate School, my boss um mentioned, she's like, You gotta leave meet Linda and we're all from Rock Solid. And she told me like four or five times. So I creepily creeped the. Thanks, Dana. Thank you. Yes, it was Dana. Um, I messaged you on Facebook, I think. Or maybe I emailed you. Anyways, I reached out to you guys and I just wanted to pick their brains because I always, when Dana told me about what they did, I'm like, wow, like that is amazing. Yes. And I so came down randomly, didn't really know a lot. I remember Merle was like, so what do you want? I'm like, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I remember meeting in her office. Yeah. I was like, we'll meet, you talk, you know, God knows. God knows. He knows what he's doing. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

So I just picked their brain, and it just uh to hear you guys was so inspiring how they truly put God at the focus of everything and listening to him, and it's just been super cool. So from that conversation to kind of like just figuring things out to you guys sponsoring Embrace WR, and now I'm here in this wild.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and I will tell you, we gathered our team together for a kind of a meet and greet lunch. Some of you had met through training, but some of you had not. And it was just honestly, it just filled my heart just to see the chatter and the conversations, and it was just the buzz and excitement was just I really I really didn't want it to stop.

SPEAKER_03

It was like we hadn't, it's like we've known each other for so much longer than that moment because I hadn't met some of them, and it was I could have stayed there all day. I was ready to order another meal. What next on the menu do I need to order?

SPEAKER_01

So tell us a little bit of who you'll be working with with Rock Solid, um, you know, for those that may be wanting to set up an appointment.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so I will be focusing on the youth, youth girls and then teen girls and then young, young women. So that's why I'm excited.

SPEAKER_01

My passion. And you kind of see a little of excitement, just a little bit of excitement coming out of Kristen, and and that enthusiasm, Kristen, is really why we have just um uh loved bringing you on this team. And you know, all of our Rock Solid Families coaches are really gonna be kind of in their different lanes and helping meet the demands that we see all the time. Um, so hopefully, if you haven't already heard of the other coaches, you will go on our website, rock solidfamilies.org, our new launch of our new website, and really check everybody out, their bios and um also their schedules. So we're gonna come back in a little bit after a commercial break, and we're gonna kind of dig more into this theme of really Kristen's, you know, we're gonna talk about more purpose and calling when we come back. So check it out.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back to the Rocksella Families Podcast. I am here with Kristen, one of our new network coaches. And all month long we are talking about really fulfilling our purpose, our calling. And if you checked us out in the last show of the Rocksella Families Podcast, we were talking, Andy and I, about really this purpose myth and how really we have all of us as believers in Jesus Christ have a primary single purpose. The what. The what is intimacy with Christ, sharing in his glory, making his name known. Just like you said, Kristen, before, just about tapping into the being still and knowing he is God. Like he wants that for us. It's not he wasn't doesn't want something from us, he wants something for us, and he wants us to experience that intimacy and to really bring him glory in all we say and do. And so our key verse was Colossians 3.23, where it talks about, you know, that in all things that we will work for the glory of God, not human masters. And so um, but now we're talking about the how. And that really is customized, that's individualized, and it's different for you and me. Yeah and it really takes in our wiring and our experiences and our strengths and our weaknesses. And so, you know, like I said, Colossians 3.23 is kind of our anchor verse. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord. Um, but John 15, 5, I love John 15. I love the story and the analogy, metaphor of the vine and the branches. And I just want to read John 15, 5. It says, I am the vine, Jesus is speaking, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. And apart from me, you can do nothing. So how do we bear much fruit? It's only staying attached to the vine. And you know, I think about this, I think of uh Jeremiah 29.11, which you know, sometimes people throw that verse around very flippantly, but it's very powerful if you really think of God's promise to us. And it says in Jeremiah 29.11, for I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you a future and so a hope in a future. And so the wave of hope is that's what made, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

What I thought I thought of um when you were talking about this, and I came up. So my role and wellness logo is a beach wave, and I think of it as very like when you're at the beach and you see like there's hurricanes that come, and we all go through storms in our lives, and they your life gets life, isn't easy, but if you have God at the center of it and focus on Him, there's always hope to get through. So that's where the wave of hope comes. And this Jeremiah 29 was like, yes, love that.

SPEAKER_01

So he's a good God with good plans for our life, no matter what your circumstances are, no matter the the roadblocks that you hit. Sometimes the roadblocks are what is what builds your character. Yeah, you know, the the verse that talks about um suffering produces perseverance, pervert, perseverance, character, character hope. Um, and so that verse reminds me that you know, wherever you find your story, wherever you are, um, what could God be asking from you in that moment? That's what we're talking about. I gotta tell you a story, Kristen. So um I am actually seeing a counselor myself.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I figured before I go back in the sessions with people and carry their story, I've got to be able to work mine own out. And so, um, and I have just been um overwhelmed by his presence of just calming my busy mind and allowing that Holy Spirit to take over. And so I'm I'm leaving um in Kentucky and I'm driving home and I'm feeling the Holy Spirit, man. I'm feeling like, Lord, you are got me on fire. So I stopped and I'm like, okay, where do you want me to eat lunch, Lord? So he he says, this Chipotle. Like, I've never, of course, I love Chipotle. I think the Lord is really ordaining Chipotle. But anyway, I I I've never been in this one, and so I stop in this one in Kentucky, and um, I really don't know why. I don't know, really know what I'm supposed to do. I I thought I was supposed to pray with somebody, but like, you know, have you ever seen them on the line? Man, they're busy. So I'm like, okay, how do I stop and pray for these guys and girls on the line? So I'm like, oh, maybe I'm just supposed to bless them with a tip. So I bless them with a tip. I go sit outside, and I was like, okay, Lord, I'm not really sure why I'm here. Like, what do you want me to do here? And uh all of a sudden, this is crazy, this is no lie. I am sitting outside on the patio, and there is a bike that is um locked um on this gate right next to like this this railing, and all of a sudden, here comes one of the workers, and she's off shift and she's going home and she's unlocking her bike right. I mean, literally as close as you and I. Yeah. And I'm like, all right, Lord, I guess this is who I'm supposed to pray for. And so I just said, Hi, how are you doing? And I said, Hey, is there something I could pray for you? I just feel like I'm supposed to pray for you for something. And I definitely caught her off guard. Like she has no idea like who you are. She's like an 18, 19-year-old Hispanic young woman who rode her bike to work, and um, and so her name was Jiminis, and she let me pray for her. Wow and she wants to be a doctor, but she's not going to school right now. She's out of high school and she and she wants to be a doctor. And so, Jimini's, if you're listening, I just want you to know you've been on my heart ever since, just praying for you. So that was really cool. And I was like, Lord, this is awesome, right? And by the way, right before she left, her boss came out and said, Hey, did you didn't get your tips? And so they split the tips before shifts over. So, anyway, that that really blessed me. But then all of a sudden, uh another guy is sitting by me, uh uh, probably an African American in his 40s, um, and his name is Dewan. So, Dewan, if you're listening, and uh I asked him if I could pray for him. And uh Kirsten, we sat for probably 15, 20 minutes and he was telling a story. He worked at Amazon, he had taken the bus, he lived downtown, and uh he prayed and asked me to pray for his uh a relationship with his four year old son that he wants a a deeper relationship with. And then he doesn't get to see very often. And it it just touched my heart. So, Dawan, I uh you took my card, you asked for my card. So if you're watching these Want you to know that you've been on my heart since then, too. But I just say that not to brag on myself at all. I'm just saying, like, when you be still, yes, and you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. I mean, I was on fire. I mean, like, not fire, like I was just so jazzed up, like so excited about the Holy Spirit just leading my day, guiding my steps that I didn't want it to stop, you know. And you don't know about those two. I don't know. I mean, they probably thought about that conversation. Have you ever had someone stop and pray for you? It doesn't happen very often. No, but when it does, I can tell you where I was. I can tell you what I was going through. I can tell you how the Holy Spirit led that person to feel called to pray with me. Like one time it was in Dallas at a hotel lobby, and my friend had just tried to commit suicide, and I was down there distraught, figuring, what am I going to try to do here to help? And this person randomly came over and asked, How can I pray for you?

SPEAKER_03

You are we just got through a training yesterday, and it was a suicide training, and the main point of it was people want to be seen and when they're struggling. So you don't you have no idea what these people were going through, but you stopping and praying for them, you don't know why could have you could have saved their life. I mean, that's what again made not me, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, yes, but the Holy Spirit through you, right? The difference that you made through listening to the Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_01

But again, you don't have to go to Jipole and do what I did, okay? Yeah. Because it's all individual. The the point is that God wants intimacy with you. He wants you to make his name known. He wants you to share the hope, the wave of hope with whoever you come in contact with. I was on the phone with some customer service person trying to cancel my phone plan, and it was very hard, by the way, to do that. They're trying so hard to keep you. And I spent probably 20, 25 minutes on the phone with this woman. Finally, I'm like, ma'am, I really just want to cancel this. I I got another phone. I my husband passed away. I really don't want his line. I'm just trying to cancel this. And finally she said, I totally understand. Can I just tell you you're the nicest person I have worked with today? I bet you were. Well, thank you, but can you still cancel my plan? But I still want my plan canceled. I'm not gonna change my mind. So, anyway, my my point is that um seize those moments, you know, look around you, be still. Take your mind out of what's going on in this lower story. That's what I'm really learning. I have such a busy mind. Same. And I get so wrapped up in the anxiousness of the day and the stresses, and I think about what I didn't do right yesterday or what I have to do tomorrow. Instead of, and and I'm my counselor's telling me, like, you can't live in the present like that. You can't live in his presence like that. And so I'm like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's like you just sometimes have to take that breath and be like, God got me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, deep breath. And I have to, it's a sacred space. I I mentioned it at the um at the night of worship that you, by the way, did an amazing job with leading, Holy Spirit led. But it's really the sacred space between our doing and our thinking that we create and allow for him to be there. Yes. And I just love that. So anyway, if you have not connected with us, um we are um hoping to get a women on mission um podcast coming up soon and a group. Um I'm uh teasing the idea, Kristen, and I want to talk to you about this afternoon. Oh no, here we go.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay. I think you're on there.

SPEAKER_01

I'm thinking of a hybrid of kind of an in-person Zoom study and a women on mission Zoom study that we've been doing monthly. So um the next one um will be August 24th. Um, if you're a lady watching this, um, it's a Monday night at 7:30. Um, it's really titled, I've got this. It's all about when independence becomes an idol, like when we think we can do it on our own, yes, on our own power and our own flesh. And so I think that might have to do with a lot of us ladies. Uh yeah, too, yeah. But it this this podcast or this Zoom is gonna be only for ladies. So our Women on Mission has over 400 ladies. 120 of us are reading the Bible every day. If you are a woman who wants to get connected and wants to be uh really immersed in this really culture of positivity and hope and and faith, join us. We would love to have you. You can find us on Facebook or text me or message me, and I would love to at lynda at rock solidfamilies.org, and I'd love to connect you versus um on our email. So yeah. Um final words for um our listeners, Kristen, about really purpose um calling. Is there anything that we haven't talked about that you would want to share before we close? Because I don't want to squelch the Holy Spirit here, you know. There might be something.

SPEAKER_03

I would just say in general, lean into the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we go through life and we we are fear-filled and we are nervous to do something, and you may feel a calling and then get in that busy mind of ours and be like, I can't do this, or I don't. But God will carry you and you can do so much more than what you think you we we doubt ourselves all the time. And if you lean into God, listen and follow what he's made for you. I think I know that you you won't fail.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, our identity, who we are, whose we are, is already is if we're a believer in Christ, if we surrendered our life to him, that is safe and secure. And the and the what of he wants for us is already Brock Solid. He wants us to make him known, he wants intimacy with us. It's really how he's gonna go about that. It's all unique. And and that's what I just love. That's what that Jipoli story was all about. It's just like, I had no idea that's what I would be doing that day.

SPEAKER_03

And it may not make sense at the moment. And then when it happens, you're like, okay, wow God, God, I want to do some more of that, right?

SPEAKER_01

And so please um check us out on rocksolidfamilies.org, our new um refreshed website with all of our coaches and their bios and how to connect with them on their calendars. And uh thank you, Kristen, for being the first guinea pig.

SPEAKER_03

You're welcome. Yeah, you did a great job.

SPEAKER_01

And sorry, Andy, for messing up our podcast studio and kind of knocking everything down. I hope you can fix it. It'll be fine. Yeah, it'll be fine. We need a couple more tools. Yeah, and thank you again for our sponsors, again, Casey's Outdoor Solutions, Maxwell Construction, and the Hoosier Ice House for just supporting what we do here. And thank you, the listeners, and you know, share the show. Um, introduce Kristen to the world with me and help people see why we're here and what we're doing and really how we can make his name known because that's really what we're here for as believers in Jesus Christ.
