SPEAKER_02Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to another edition of the Wisconsin Wrestler Podcast. I'm your host, Teak Fenwick, coming to you live from Holman, joining me as always from Koshkinong, my co-host, Steve Lurquin. Steve, great to be here.
SPEAKER_00Hey, great to be here, Teague. Yesterday, when we did the podcast, I had a little case of the sadsies. Now today, got a little case of the pumpsies. I don't know if that's a word or not, but a little pumped up for Team SAC Team State.
SPEAKER_02Got that, got that Team State dopamine kicking back up. I do. As we got that wild run over the next three days. I'm very much looking forward to it. And it will be at lacrosse this year. Don't worry, folks. Plenty of parking. I know there is another tournament going on as well, but there is two parking ramps. I'm guessing between the two tournament, probably about the same amount of wrestlers as Buy State. And I've never heard of big parking issues, so should be good. Wrestling starts at 5.30, Steve, for all of the divisions. How about that? Six match that we want gonna be going. Then quarterfinals. Wrestling the quarterfinals in two rounds, like the top half of the bracket, then the bottom half of the bracket at 7.30. 10 o'clock, six mats of semis, 3 p.m. will be the grand march. That's some basic team state information. I have to say, Steve, I absolutely love Team State. As I think everyone should. I would love to see if there was more people locked into the Team State scene. You can kind of tell there's a little drop-off after individual state. And man, wrestling fans, just go watch Team State. Watch it online. Come watch it. Come watch in person. I highly recommend. Whatever you gotta do to get there, it is just an unreal atmosphere. And I think if coaches brought their teams, it'd serve us some good motivation.
SPEAKER_00That was my philosophy. Obviously, it was different. I shouldn't say different. I was only about a half hour away, but I'd still make arrangements and we'd figure out it'd probably go Saturday, right? Uh driving up there because if if that's where we want to be, we better go watch it. That was always my my take on it. But you know, I'm a little crazy.
SPEAKER_02And and you can't talk about it being too far because we know Matt Verbatin's gonna be there. And there's not many places further from lacrosse than Wright's town. Matt will be there. And anytime you can be like Matty V, then that is that's that's the right way to go. Um right on. Steve, team state preview. Oh, yeah, real quick. Gear tonight. We obviously went neutral.
SPEAKER_00Love your shirt. Yeah, this is uh I'll go first. This is uh we were supposed to get these shirts. Oh, am I sitting up? There we go. Uh we were supposed to get these shirts when we went and did the uh Beaver Dam versus Lodi match. It was a Friday night. That one ended up getting frozen out. It didn't happen, but they did it a different night. And uh, this is in honor of Bo Lane. Bo Lane coached at Lodi for 25 years. Uh Bo's a great guy, he's a great great friend of mine. I wrestled with him at college and uh just have known him ever since. And that's the type of guy that give the give uh he would give his shirt off his back for you, literally. And uh uh just wanted to wear this tonight, go neutral with Lodi and uh give a little shout-out to my good friend Bo. Happy retirement, Bo. Welcome to our roadie crew for next year.
SPEAKER_02That's right. Excited to have him. And I am uh wearing uh my neutral gear, very comfy, by the way. It is, yep. My cadot, long sleeve of my my quarter zip, it's comfy, great for those crisp Wisconsin fall and winter nights. And uh, maybe, Steve, maybe this is calling my shot early for team sectional prediction next year. Who knows?
SPEAKER_00Cadot is uh I I gotta stop, I gotta figure out a different way to say on the rise, but uh cadat is becoming what they were of the cadot of a couple years ago. We'll just say that.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, not really much of a lull for the Hornets, but the buzz is real. It's team state preview, pretty straightforward. We're gonna run through all 21 duels, be honest, probably talk about a couple more. I'm guessing Steve and I sway a couple different ways in our picks so we get to break that stuff down. Uh relatively a quick hitter for talking about 21 duels and for it being us two. Trying a new format this year where we're gonna have lineups on the screen. I already put it in the comments. I should have reworded that disclaimer on said just so the comments don't blow up. I mean, you don't need to put in this guy's record is actually this or this person's name is spelled like this, because when you're putting in over 80 team names across all these duels, it got a buzz through it. Did some Steve did all the leg work on putting it on the case?
SPEAKER_00I'll take yeah, I'll I'll own this. If anybody's name is spelled wrong, uh this is uh I still have a full-time job, so this is in between in between class periods when I could pump a couple names in, and I'm not the most focused individual. Did a couple here, did a couple there, so names just got popped in at different times. And absolutely, if your name is spelled wrong, I do apologize. Uh, we can try to correct it, but um uh I I I thought getting the lineups so people could see it, uh tentative lineups up would be would be one more way to give guys shout-ups.
SPEAKER_02So obviously you're still allowed to come in, say your picks suck, all that fun stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, we don't need the roster corrections because we know they're there. And also, another reason I love Team State, I will say I love commentary, Steve. Selfishly, if there was one event I wouldn't do commentary for. I wish I could clone myself and have a teague that just watches Team State as well. Especially with six mats going on at once. I I don't want to say that I wouldn't do commentary because there's been some legendary moments on the mic over the last couple of years, especially of the St. Croix Falls variety. But man, it is so fun to keep track of all the moves, see those surprise results. It's cool to hear the crowd pops and try to see where the action is going down. Uh, in regards to that, this episode it is a little stressful, not actually stressful, but it is all speculation because we are gonna be wrong from the start in that there's gonna be coaches making lineup moves that we don't know about. There's gonna be coaches that probably watch or listen to this tonight, just probably snickering at their screen because they know their lineup isn't gonna look like that at all. These coaches know their lineup and their opponents' lineups better than we ever

SPEAKER_02will. But what's a preview show without our last picks of the year, Steve?
SPEAKER_00I'm excited. I I'm I didn't even think about that, Tigga, as I was making it. I forgot that you and I could have different uh different picks. So let's see. Our our hairline survive for yet another six months at least. Yeah, let's figure it out. Let's get rock and roll and see where we're the same, see where we're different.
SPEAKER_02All right, let's do it. Starting off D1. Oh, by the way, hi Jimmy. Kakona and uh Milton. Steve, you want to start us off?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, go ahead, T. I'll just I will tell you this. Bold is uh bold is state qualifier, so that's what that means.
SPEAKER_02So this is, and I think you have the number at the top, too, right?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, there you go.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I think a couple changes we see with this one. I won't have the score on here. I have my own spreadsheet copy for that, but I think this will end up being uh like a 1-8 duel, should. Very heavily favored for the galloping ghosts. Good see I'm looking forward to potentially Colton Mueller and Van Schindle at 113 and also got a circle. Gage growth versus Colin DeGroot if that match comes to fruition. A potential lineup change we'd see, Steve, as if Milton utilize the girls at their team sectional. So will we see that at Team State? Well, we'll find out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's uh you that's really the only note I had to uh watch out for the girls. They do have some fantastic young ladies that can pop in the lineup, but uh uh Twine or team wise, or I only have Milton uh winning four matches of this one, and my final team score is uh Kakona 56, and I have uh how much Milmont. Wilmot, jeez, Milton, what is going on? It was it was a long day. I know I'm a rough day at school for me, but I'm gonna go. Uh Milton has 16.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I at 63 to 11 in favor of the Ghosts. That's our 1-8 matchup. This 4-5 matchup, though. Wanakkee and Beaver Dam. And I don't know, I don't know where I want to start with this one. I guess I'll pull up my stuff. But Steve, right now, I do have it 8-6 in matches in favor of Wanakee. Okay. But I have a pretty close duel. I have it within a three points. I think where Beaver Dam gets points, they're gonna get them in a big way. So uh the big question for sorry, not Beaver Dam, Brown Deer, Mesmer, Shorewood.
SPEAKER_00Yep, I know that's a tough one.
SPEAKER_02You put BD in there, I kept in my brain automatically goes for Beaver Dam.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Apologies to BDMS, yeah. But I have it 8-6. I know we have the Hayes Sisters in there at 106 and 113. And uh big question is I don't know if this benefits Wanakee at all necessarily, but if they have a decent 215 to throw in there against Blar Hart, do we see McCoy Smith and Makai Rogers go ahead of that 285?
SPEAKER_00You know, just for fun, why not? But if the duel comes down to it, they're not going to. Obviously, they're gonna go with the the guaranteed six if they need it. But uh they have throughout the year, Teague, we've seen in duel meets with Wanaki, they have moved McCoy up all the time, and he's wrestled heavyweight, and he's wrestled very well up there as well. Not scared to wrestle anyone as McCoy. And well, if you look at the man, you would see why. I can't imagine McCoy's afraid of anything. Well, maybe spiders, but other than that, not too much. A lot of great men are a lot of great men are afraid of uh spiders. T, we gotta do our picks. I got uh I have Wanoke. You have a tighter than me. I have Wannekeep winning this one 41 to 29.
SPEAKER_02Uh yep, I got 34-31. I also like to do the thing, make the duel as close as possible, right? Uh I am very stingy with bonus points. Yeah, especially at this time of year. I mean, we're we're at the point now where probably all the all the teams that are pretty good at not getting pinned, they're probably in these fields.
SPEAKER_00So uh I'll T, I'll let you break this one down. I I was surprised by this one as far as a uh this is our six-three matchup, correct?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um I was surprised. I didn't I thought uh uh I wasn't I I think you and I made predictions, and I did have Slinger as my number three. I thought Bayport was gonna be number four, so I was really surprised when they slid down to six.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's right. We did do our team state predictions, yeah. Three six matchup here between uh the owls of Slinger and uh the Pirates of a Bayport. I have this one eight six in a favor of a Bayport. I think 190, uh 285 maybe not a swing match, but I have that as a decision as well. Uh I think Devlin versus uh Barron. Oh, Baron, that's an epic name. I think that could be potentially a swing match, but I do have bonus points abounding in this one. If Slinger can find a way to either steal one, I just have a hard time seeing where they steal one in my projections, or both of these teams have a lot of chances to minimize bonus points. I just think with the matchup, it's gonna be high scoring. I think the Owls could come out on top. Uh, I do have Bayport winning 36 to 33.
SPEAKER_00Teague, I forgot to look. Uh I I meant to look and I did not go back. Did uh did Gehring and Athey wrestle at state?
SPEAKER_02They did not know because Gehring was at 57. Well, why do you have them in the same weight class? Oh, Maximilian Gehring. Max, yeah. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh I did not see that. Yeah, okay. Didn't look there. Um, I had what was your team score, Teek? 36-33 Bayport. I wow, we're pretty close. I have uh, I apologize, my Howl fans, and I know they'll let us hear it, but I have Bayport 32 to 27.
SPEAKER_0232-27. Okay. Yeah, I um actually we'll talk about it in the semis duel. Oh, one.
SPEAKER_00Oh what's up? Yeah, well, and Bayport did beat uh, I forgot to print that one out. Well, folks, I did every every team that wrestled each other throughout the year, uh, I printed off the sheets, and guess what? In typical Steve fashion, I left them on my desk, but Bayport did beat Slinger in a dual meet earlier this year.
SPEAKER_02And then Steve, second to last one of the year at this Slinger coverage brought to you by Garing's Meet. Located in St. Lawrence. Did you say second to last one? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because we're gonna Yeah, we're covering them next week. Although the last time I picked against Slinger in the first round, I thought it was a sure thing, and it did not work out in my favor. And it happened to be against Holman during the COVID year.
SPEAKER_00Holman is uh uh if if dual meets start at 106 every time, Holman has to be happy with that. That's just impressive. First four wrestlers, all state qualifiers.
SPEAKER_02Uh we got Holman and Muskego, and oh my lord, I don't have a team score on this one, but I know I had Muskego win in three or four matches, and uh say if I have a match to look forward to, potentially Henderson versus Austin at 144.
SPEAKER_00And well, I mean, uh obviously got a state, two state qualifiers at 120 pounds. Um fatigue, I have let's see, I have Mosquego winning one, two, three, four. I actually have Mosquego winning five. Uh only getting one set of bonus points, and that's at 190 pounds. But uh Holman getting the win 39 to 19 is my score. 39, 19, tight one.
SPEAKER_02Pretty light on the bonus. No, not tight one, but light on the bonus.
SPEAKER_00Light. I'm tight. I I'm pretty uh I stay pretty close, keep the cards close to my chest with bonus points for the most part.
SPEAKER_02Let me uh should uh prepared ahead of time for how we were gonna look on screen.
SPEAKER_00So we have we have as far as quarterfinals, we have exactly the same for D1.
SPEAKER_02We do have exactly the same quarterfinals. Give me uh one moment here. I need to uh set up shop.
SPEAKER_00So Brian says uh hometown favorites for T. Yeah. I don't know if he's calling you a homer or if he's just saying hometown favorites. Well, we'll see how it shakes out. Yeah. Hey, and how great is it? We have three local teams, so they the place should be packed.
SPEAKER_02I've been hearing early predictions that this is going to be uh the highest capacity uh team state. I think potentially, and depending on how far the teams advance, this definitely could be the highest attended team state for sure, which the lacrosse center would be rocking in that instance. All right, Steve, Kakona versus Wanakee. Do you want to go first on this one?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, I can pop through here. Um, let's see. Not as tight. I have uh, well, I won't say my final score. Spear, uh tough wrestler at 113 pounds. He lost seven to one in the blood round. Not to not to Van Schindel, just meaning that it was that close that close to um that close to meddling. D. Piazza took fifth place. I have Metzler, just kind of saying how people placed at state. Uh Metzler taking fourth place and McCoy Smith and Winnekins. That uh I'm I'm excited for that one. McCoy Smith, did you see his results at state, T? Every single one of his victories were two points. So that's a that's a guy who knows how to go the distance. Uh looking forward to that match. But T, I have all Kakana in this one. A lot of bonus points, and not giving up a lot of bonus points. Uh, I do have Wanekee winning four. I don't know if you called that as well, but I have Kakana 44 and Wanake 13.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I have uh I have Wanekee winning two right now. Do you? Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, where do you have it? Let's just say I have it at uh uh I have it at 13. And oh yeah, you go. Sorry. Uh I have 13, 44, 57, and then I have McCoy Swith Smith winning at 215.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I have uh 57 and a 215 right now. I like 44. I think 13 will be a good match, but Van Schindel is a really good wrestler. Right.
SPEAKER_00At an extremely stacked section offer, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes. All right, we are all the same so far. This next D1 semi. Let me uh set up shop here for a moment. Steve, I actually have I looked at two different duels just because I had the score so close. I only did this for this one. But I did do a Holman versus Slinger and a Holman versus Bayport. So Alright, I just did one, so go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Why don't you do your uh Holman versus Slinger? Holman versus Slinger first? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Sorry. Sorry for the dead time. Here we go. Alright, Holman versus Slinger. Let me scroll down here. Steve, I have this one. I think Slinger matches up oddly well with Holman. Uh Riley Longdon, he can potentially keep things close with Henderson, and I mean that in terms of could minimize the bonus points when Henderson is usually a bonus point machine. And I think it matches up, but Slinger could get a lot of bonus. They're just matched up where the really solid guys are. That's where Holman isn't as solid. You can tell Holman's kryptonite is in their upper weights, and I think that's where Slinger has to make hey, uh potentially fun match, could be at 215, 21 and 20 versus 19 and 21. And uh I do have a Holman a 40, Slinger a 31 in that situation. But let's hear about your Holman Bay port, and then I'll give my take on that.
SPEAKER_00I have T uh Hey, this is the Swan song for Aloy Schlump, right? Last match, uh he's gonna he's gonna get the wrestle because I have Holman winning this one. It's been a it's been a great ride. Although I think two weight classes that are gonna be fun, surprisingly, not surprisingly, 285. Uh Luke Weinberg and uh Mr. Jeffson both had a win at state. They did not face each other and both had a one-point loss. But uh, an intriguing matchup is at 157, Jaden McCormick 13-12 versus Trainer Campbell, 9-9. And uh that's one of those where, hey, maybe Bayport gets a couple of those the swing matches that uh are favored towards Holman. They tilt them the other way, can Bayport uh turn this thing around and in my opinion, sneak out a victory? But I do not have that. I have 39-28 for Holman.
SPEAKER_02And in my versus Holman, a tale of two different duels almost, right? From 106 to 150, I have Holman winning seven of the first eight. Then I have Bayport winning five of the last six. I just think Holman dominates in the bonus point avenue. Correct. And they win 41 to 27 over Bayport, which brings us to our finals. Where we have potentially, emphasis on potentially, potentially, a two-seed Holman Vikings versus a one-seed five-time defending champs, Kakona, galloping ghost. And I think this one, uh just how good Kakona has been, I think this shocks this is gonna shock a lot of people around the state. Just in terms of how close it's going to be.
SPEAKER_00Sure. Okay, I was what I was waiting for. I'm like, oh, tell me. You'll you dropped a cliffhanger on that one.
SPEAKER_02So I think Holman, the way I've been thinking about it, I think Holman for sure wins five, have a really good shot at six, and uh Steve could win seven, which puts us in the territory of something needs to happen that absolutely uh no one would expect for Holman to win. I don't think that'll happen. Keep in mind, everyone, this is a Homer making their prediction. I just think. Kakana's bonus in the last five weights. It's going to be too much to overcome. It could be an 8-6 duel and the ghosts still win. But my prediction is Kakana 33, Holman 26, and that's with it being 7-7. And that's with a couple of big swing matches with uh D Piazza and Lancaster and Alish and Thorpe. I don't know if any moves are going to be made necessarily. I mean, I'm guessing it's Holman at Kakana, so I'm guessing there will be. But I'm sure there'll be some jockeying to try and save some points one way or another.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, and just letting people know in the chat, they're asking the question if they got on a little bit late. Anybody in bold is a state qualifier. So that's what uh that's what that means. Teague, did you give your final score or are you waiting until after I give mine? I said 33-26 with it being 7-7. Oh, you did. Okay, yeah. I actually have the same thing, Teague. I have uh a couple weight classes. Um D Piazza and Lancaster. They didn't face each other head to head, but Lancaster beat Swick, and Swick beat D. Piazza, so there's a common opponent. Uh Alish and Thorpe took fourth and sixth, so I think that's a good potential head-to-head. Um, and here is best scenario, Teague, is Holman wins seven. Excuse me, folks. Teague filled the air. You're doing great, Steve. Sorry, I got that little tickle. I told myself I wasn't gonna get emotional about this. Um, best case scenario is Holman wins seven of them. And even if they do, right? It and a lot of those seven are highly contested matches. You know, we talked about uh a few of them that could be um heavyweight, both are state qualifiers. Obviously, uh Lendabe placed a lot higher. Um, but down low, same thing. I have that's where Holman's got to make their hay. The only problem is seeing exactly what you said. If Holman gets those wins, I only have two possibly three-way classes where they might get bonus coins, and those are majors. Where Kakana on their wins, there's gonna be uh, I predict uh two pins, two majors and a tech fall. Um uh three majors and a tech fall in their wins. So I have Kakana winning this one 36 to 24.
SPEAKER_02This one very much, even more so than Holman Bayport, gonna be a tale of two different duels. So that's what we got. Double Kakonas, but maybe

SPEAKER_02in some dramatic fashion, Steve.
SPEAKER_00Let's go ahead and that's what everybody wants, right? Everybody wants a competitive duel, and uh that's what that's what I think we're gonna get. I mean, that's a Holman uh hometown, right? They're gonna come out and wrestle, and that's what we want.
SPEAKER_02So in a D2, Steve, we have the one seed Evansville versus East Troy. And uh East Troy, oh, we don't have the state qualifiers, but was East Troy empty at 190 and 285, Steve?
SPEAKER_00For sectionals, too? Uh they were, and I looked up at team sectionals and they did not have anybody. So, and I apologize. I thought I highlighted um, I don't know if you can do that quick. You can highlight the state qualifiers for each East Troy. Oh, I don't know if I'll be able to do that. Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_02Because I know the three off the top of my head, but yeah. Uh oh, here I should probably pull mine up. Do you think we see some do you think we see some of the matches that we're obviously uh would be looking forward to? You mean uh some movement to make that happen? Well, do we see Crandall Bogard part four?
SPEAKER_00Oh why not, right? I mean, let them go, let them fly. I do have this one as 58-14 in favor of Evansville. I have it 45-16 in favor of Evansville. So, but congratulations. Yeah, and that is Teague, that is a uh uh conference. They are in the same conference. I from what I saw, they did not duel, but at the conference tournament, the Rock Valley, uh, the RVC, Evansville placed ahead of them. Oh, I had this all written down on my pieces of paper, and it's not here, but uh, I think it was by about 180 points um-ish that Evansville took first place by.
SPEAKER_02I mean, Evansville won the Rock Valley conference duel. Uh they theoretically dueled the RVC All-Star team that isn't Evansville. Oh, correct. Yeah, good point. All right, going to the 4-5. Steve, we were blessed to see this once, and uh how we get to see it a second time at the La Crosse Center. I don't know if there is anybody that's not thrilled about the fact that we're having a team sectional rematch, but I honestly don't know how else these seeds shake out. Maybe you could argue a little different, but it was just meant to be this way. St. Croix Falls and Osceola meeting the 4-5 matchup. And we talked about it a little bit already with our team sectional match, but could be a big difference, could be a big void in the lineup. The thing is, Steve, St. Croix Falls did get six points in the duel where we think there could be a void in Osceola's lineup. Big question for both teams. St. Croix Falls, they're bonus point machines, and they're great at staving off bonus points. Correct. It's just like a call, it's gotta be infuriating to wrestle them when you try to pick up bonus points. I do have Osceola picking up a couple of more. I think I have this one at 7 to 7, but I just think St. Croix Falls is picking up too many pins. I have 39 to 28 SCF over Osceola.
SPEAKER_00Folks, if you are not familiar with this, I took a different way home. I usually take Highway 8 over to what is that, Teague 53 straight down. I drove a little different. I want to see some different towns. It was daylight when I left SCF, Team Sectional, and Ossiola is not far away from St. Croix Falls. That is these two teams. I'm not gonna say they don't like each other, but this is Packers Bears, right? These are these are guys proximity-wise that are pretty close to each other, they're familiar with each other, and uh they wrestle like it, right? I mean, these uh these fan bases are are loud and they're interactive with with each other. So I tell you what, folks, do not miss that round of quarterfinals. This one's gonna be absolute fun. Um, I have this one, and I'm gonna say this with an asterisk. Same thing, what you just said. St. Croix Falls is very if if you are a coach and you want to figure out how to wrestle doomate wrestling, I would come and study and watch what St. Croix Falls does. They are the ultimate team as far as how they wrestle. Um, they are down, let's see, they had five state qualifiers to Osceola's seven, right? But like you said, they will they just do not give up a lot of bonus points. However, here is the scary thing of Osceola: seven state qualifiers, and they are pinners, right? They go out and they let it fly. It's uh they they wrestle a little cowboy, right? They're just gonna go out there and be like, all right, I'm coming after you. And that's what's scary about Osceola, potentially, uh, in my opinion, getting the upset. Uh so uh I have this one at 4224 for SCF, but folks put a little put a little asterisk by it because that is a uh no way is it gonna be that close, and these guys are gonna come after each other.
SPEAKER_02Also, I will say almost undoubtedly, and this is what's gonna be interesting, Steve, is some of these teams in the middle of the pack. How do you plan your lineup? Do you plan your lineup around uh just winning the first duel or just go with what you know? Because I would say undoubtedly uh Ostiola's lineup was great having Dunham weigh in at 190 and then he wrestled 215 because then we didn't get the Dunham Peterson matchup, or they didn't want that. Do they do that again if it potentially makes their lineup worse in the second round?
SPEAKER_00That's a great question, buddy. And we have no idea that's the funny. Well, and if uh I I wish we would get access to the rest of the lineups where where they could put potential strong kids in to get better bumps. I don't know if we'll see Cora Stewart, but I don't I don't know if we'll see her utilized. I just don't think it makes that much of a difference in the scope of Coleman's lineup. Correct.

The only other thing I'm uh I have for analysis is if the duel meet gets out of line or out of hand teague, I hope Garrett Kovczynski goes up and wrestles Devonado. That would be, please, for the fans, can you make it happen? I think that'd be awesome. Uh, but I have this one. I have a little tighter. I didn't go too heavy on bonus points. SPEAKER_02Yeah, let me uh let's plug the teams in. We have a battle of the blue, Steve. Blue Devils of Evansville versus the Saints of St. Croix Falls, defending team state champs versus the one seed, the elephant in the room. I don't think St. Croix Falls wants to see a Drake Peterson versus a Tommy Heiser. And uh man, Evansville's lower weights, just uh a lot to deal with.
SPEAKER_00Not a lot of roles in their lineup as is. Well, with Evansville, you're talking, this is uh yeah, they're a tough team to face. Um, they were in that loaded, loaded section, also they have a lot of guys that even though five state qualifiers, they had, I think three that were third place. Um, so they are absolutely solid. Um did you talk about Heiser? I was I was looking back. Did you say Heiser and Peterson? They did wrestle. I don't think I don't think SCF wants to see Heiser versus Peterson. Yeah, I well there's gonna be some bumping. We'll just say that, right?
SPEAKER_02But uh potentially the toss is gonna be huge.
SPEAKER_00Correct. Correct. And St. Croft Walls just talked about it. They are very good at dual meet wrestling. I'm sure Evansville is as well. They just, you know, because of the sectional they've been in, they don't have as much experience at the state tournament to date, right? But uh Evansville is a very well coached and very knowledgeable when it comes to wrestling. Uh, I have this one, I have this one tight teak. I don't know if you have this one as close as I do, but I have 33 to 27 in favor of Evansville. I have a few more bonus points.
SPEAKER_02I have a 34 to 30 in favor of Evansville. It's this is gonna be one of the most well-coached matchups of the state tournament between these two. You know, there's gonna be some tricks up someone's sleeve because we talked about some of St. Croix Falls's potential moves, but Evansville did bump up their entire lineup from 113 almost all the way up, I think, at team sectional. So do they do anything here against a well-balanced SCF lineup? I don't know because I'm guessing they want SCF to have the Caden Hahn conundrum as well at 113. Right on. Uh, yeah, 3430. We both have a tight, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Brings us to our second D2 semi. T and I um yeah, I'm gonna quick uh Gunner, I apologize. Uh early early on. That's a bad name to say it is uh so I was doing this uh during school when I had a minute here, a minute there, so I didn't proof it. We're just kind of putting um we're just kind of putting lineups up quickly. But uh if T can make the adjustment, possibly typing that that'd be great.
SPEAKER_02I will make the respect, you know, and I know we gave the disclaimer that there was gonna be uh potentially some typos, but going from a really cool name in Gunner to a Dunner where it's like, do your parents like you? Melvin GT is the two seed for a reason, and I think this is a great 2-3 matchup that we're gonna see in the semis. Steve, I have this one as I have it as 7-7. Oh but I have uh the third-seeded Cougars coming out on top, getting some big bonus points from Seafelt and Nowak at 6-13. I have Coleman winning at 32 to 28.

Seafock got a win at state, and Bishop did not. This was that 215 pounds. Teague, we have our first difference in uh this one. Good point by uh Manuel. He said both teams have nine state qualifiers. Get your popcorn, folks. Absolutely, this one can go either way. But in the finals, Teague, I have Melman GET winning this one over the Cougars. 31 to 27, and I only let's see, I have Coleman um winning six, and I have Melman GET winning four, and it's so tight because uh I have at 106 and 113, Coleman's gonna get some and at heavyweight. Wait, did you say six and four? No, uh no, I said eight for uh for the final. I said Melman GET is gonna win eight. Oh Coleman's gonna win six. Yep. Oh Coleman's gonna keep this tight because I have them getting three pins, and I only have uh uh Melman getting two pins.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, bonus points gonna be huge. I mean, they're gonna be huge in every duel. I don't want to sound like a broken record. Uh I'm trying to think of what I had potentially starred as a I think if Chiangcho's wrestling, I think he needs to be wrestling for Coleman to win this duel. For sure. And then uh Gunner versus Owens, that could be another potential swing match as well. So we'll see. I think right now, Steve, I think this is the duel I'm most looking forward to. Great semifinal. Well, we have two different D2 finals, but don't worry, folks, because I know things could have gone a lot of ways in D2. I did do all of the permutations that we could have had for our four semifinalists. So none of us picked uh St. Croix Falls, but I did do St. Croix Falls and Melman at GET. I had that one scored out as 35-23 SCF. St. Croix Falls and Coleman. That was at 29 to 26. That was 7-7. So we potentially see that. I'll start off with mine though, Steve. Evansville versus a Coleman, Blue Devils versus the Cougars. I have this as uh 8-6 in favor of Evansville. Potentially big matches at 106 between World and Seafelt, and then a 26 between Brownschwig and Owens. I have uh I think I have it split between those swing matches. One thing with Evansville, with D2 that really helps them with the Tommy Heiser effect is I think almost everyone needs to get their 175 away from Evansville. I feel like that is just a consensus for these other three teams. But eight to six in favor of the Blue Devils. Coleman knows how to pin, they keep it close, but I have a 36 to 29, and I have Evansville, who had not picked to make Team State four months ago. I have uh Evansville as my team state champions.

Um well, there's a big question mark in this duel, right? And I'm not gonna do any uh special. Speculalization or speculate. Speculate. I'm not going to speculate at all. Yeah, I'm not going to do that only because there is a big question mark when it comes to Evansville. I'm not going to speculate at all on that because I don't we don't do that on the show. But with that being said, I think Evansville, GET and Melman, they match up very well in the fact of they're kind of studs or away from each other, right? But I think this one, Evansville's second-tier guys are just a step above Melman's second-tier guys, right? So Tig, I have this one as a final matchup uh 33 to 29. And uh with an asterisk by it, right? Because that's the big question mark going on this one. But I have Evansville uh who you and I both did not have making uh team state at the beginning of the year becoming state champions.

SPEAKER_02and I are on the mic for a division three this weekend. And uh we think in terms of teams that could win it, this is the deepest group. And that was that was my thoughts. I think at one point during the year I looked at Zach's rankings, and I think the top eight teams, Steve, were seven teams from different sectionals and then a very deserving team to also be in the top eight. That both those teams that team happened to be the wild card, too. So when when I see that, I'm like, wow, this this spread worked out perfectly, for one. And uh two, I think it means that I think we have almost the best field we can get. I think there is for sure five teams that can win it, depending on uh what magic we get from a certain team or whatnot. I think there could be seven teams that have the potential to go on a great run. Correct. And respectfully, sorry, Glenwood City, but you have Wyatt Oiga Fremont in the first round. Correct. Wyoga Fremont's the one seed for a reason. But Steve, I think there could be a slew of good matches. I think the Toppers that could keep things close in a couple of matches. I do have the score is 50 to 9 with Glenwood City uh getting three decisions in this one. But that's I think the opportunity to wrestle at Team State is a good start for the Toppers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh a couple, uh well, not necessarily a head-to-head, but 113. You have uh, let's see, Frye won in the semifinals over Azwara. I'm sorry, Fry won in the semifinals over Lenoble. Azwara won by Tech Fall in the prelims over Bright. And then uh one other notable just because they both wrestled the same same wrestler. Bus did better against Demroth. Demrath. They had a common opponent. So uh, but yeah, Teague, I have uh Wy Week of Fremont winning this one 41 to 16 bonus points uh all over the place for Wy Week. They wrestle solid. And Teague, I loved your analysis. I I think what's exciting this year at Team State is it seems like the last couple of years we've gone into two divisions and we kind of know who you know who the champ was gonna be. What I love about this year is D2, D3, totally up in the air. And even D1, even though Kakana is who who they are, and they're the favorites for it, we have a Holman team that has a path. I think for the first time in a long team uh time, a team has a path. Everything's got to go correctly, but it should be a competitive uh competitive duel.

So um lot I think I think Marathon made a bump. I was taking a look at where they bumped. I think they made a bump and it didn't work. I have this one a lot tighter than last time. Uh, I think a key match, what I love about this, this is funny. It's not even necessarily uh uh a win. It's if one team doesn't get pinned. And I have this. If Alex uh at 106 does not get pinned, it's gonna be huge because last time against Peter White, he got pinned. If he can save them two points, this one might be dual. And I don't know if you knew this or not, but the at the Eric Clausen duels in early January, Auburn Dale did win 40, they doubled them up 48 to 24. So let me click back. I I end up scoring this one, and I try not to do it with any bias. And I try, I really do. It's it's very difficult. Uh, I try not to look at the bottom score and I go and I take a look at results, and I end up getting to my score at the end. I'm like, wait, what? I I didn't think it was gonna come out that way, especially with Auburnale uh giving up six points at 106. Um, a couple of head-to-heads. I have Wyler. Wyler did pin Volkman at state. Um, they did not face each other at 132, but Grassell and Demroth. Grassell took third, Demroth took fifth. Um, and another key one, these guys did not face each other, but it's a key matchup, Trobage versus Young. Trobidge got a win at state. Young did not. You can take that for what it what it's worth. But the I had this one a little tighter, but the same results. I have 29-24 for Auburn Dale.

The big difference maker report on him. I have Cedar Grove, Belgium picking up Buku bonus points from 75 to 285. I have the Rockets winning 39 to 22 against Mineral Point.

You slid those up already. Um here's here's what I know about mineral point wrestling. We talked about St. Croix Falls, dual mate wrestling. Well, mineral point is just as good, if not better, at and if there's any guy that can go ahead and figure out how to get lineups or matchups, it's uh Curtis Fiedler has thought about them and and then some uh disadvantaged to Cedar Grove, giving up 106 pounds, but you are still right on. Sorry. I have the the Buku bonus points, which I might slide into my vernacular because that's pretty cool. Uh but from 190 on up, if you're giving up 18 points, uh six points bonus points in each weight class, that's uh not good for your squad. And I have 40 to 23 for Cedar Grove Belgium winning this one.
SPEAKER_02I have a lot of fun matches. I I think 13 and then uh 38 through 50. I did go heavy on the CGB there, so I think this could very well swing mineral points, they could have mineral point magic and win, but I'm I'm rolling with the Rockets right now, and I'm sure that won't backfire against me at all.

Um, Heimerman at 113 pounds. Here's what's interesting. He took fourth at state, right? But Kuniger is uh he does have that sectional win over Underwood. He's got that in his resume, so he's always scary. Uh Weiler and Kesson, they at 126, they did face each other. Weiler got the pin. He was up 13 and 1 at the time. Uh one-fifth most state qualifiers, Anzia Trowbridge. Trollbridge got a win at state, Anzia did not. And then um at heavyweight, Alex Becker and uh Tink, is it Missouri? Am I saying his last name right? Up at uh heavyweight. Yeah. And uh both had both had two wins at state, but they did not face each other. So uh a couple solid, solid matchups in this one. One, two, three, four, five. I have it seven a piece in this one. Uh but I have it 20. I have it low scoring, 28 to 16 for the Rockets of Cedar Grove, Belgium.
SPEAKER_02Well, Steve, I have this one eight to six. I do think, again, not great matchups for Auburn Dale, especially at the top. Do we see some more Hassenoral and a Becker magic at the top? Potentially, but with the 8-6, oh my lord, I only have four bonus points given out. If this is the case, this would be an epic duel. Granted, there's no 106 pounder in this situation, so I think it's 10 bonus points. But I have the score as a 26 to 20 in favor of Crove Belgium.
SPEAKER_00We are calling that match. If that's what we get, that would be awesome. That is uh that is dual meat wrestling right there.
SPEAKER_02Which brings us to our finals, which here we are. Also, just so you know, they are yeah, we'll we have Wyatt Oiga and Cedar Girl, Belgium, right? We do. Yeah. Let me get this Wyatt Oiga centered here.
SPEAKER_00Real quick, the only head-to-head with that they had, not I shouldn't say head-to-head. I think the only time they were at the same tournament was at mid-states in late December. Wy Weiga Fremont scored 157 points. Cedar Grove, Belgium scored 144 points. Wy Weiga Fremont only had 12 wrestlers there at the time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I mean, both line, well, Wyiga Fremont's lineup definitely looking different. I don't know if it's Cedar Grove, Belgium's lineup hasn't changed since then, or if there were placements in or whatnot. Steve, I have this one uh pretty close again, and not a lot of bonus points. Right. I think that very well could change because both of these teams love to score, love their offense. That could change. It it all depends on the better dual team at this juncture. I think matchup-wise, I give a little edge to Wyoming Fremont. They have a lot of talent. I think Cedar Girl Belgium, if they can find a way to win a match or two that maybe they shouldn't, do we see a bump potentially as well? If there is an open spot at 106, Wyatt Fremont, or even if it's a weak person at 106, Wyatt Fremont could potentially bump their lineup up here. I don't know if they'd necessarily want to do that, though. I have this one 8-6, final score at 29 27. The Team State Finals experience from last year pays off. I have Wyatt Fremont winning Team State in D three.
SPEAKER_00Here is uh obviously the big getting the six bonus points or free points at 106. Once again, Conceder Grove Belgium. Do they have somebody to fill in there? Do they get are they able to get one of their guys down there. You know, but Xander at 106, pretty solid. Pretty solid wrestler. A couple of matchups. There was some head-to-heads. Lenoble beat Heimerman 4-1 at State. The other Heimerman won 5-0 in the quarterfinals over Azwara. And another head-to-head, Kesson beat Conan 7-2 in the Conte quarterfinals. So yeah, that uh head-to-head. Another interesting stat at 190 pounds, 190 pounds Manel and Anderson both made it to the blood round. They did not wrestle each other. And obviously you have two state qualifiers at 215. Anzia took fourth at state and Wetzel did not. T I am if if there's ever a hope, I hope that this one starts at 106 pounds. And you know why? Because this one, the swing match in this one is totally, totally the big fellas at 285 pounds for Jared and Vadim. They are going to go at it and whoever wins that one is going to win the duel. And uh I have it right now I have it that Vadim is going to win it and he is going to uh put the icing on the cake for Cedar Grove Belgium and they are going to be the state champions. But Teague, how fun would it be if it came down to the big fellas and that match decides it. So you got CGB winning it? I do. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02I was going to say a couple spots in mine that I think with Wyatt of Fremont I might be a little stingy on their bonus points. I think with Cedar Grove Belgium I gave a lot of close matches or potential swing matches to Wyatt of Fremont. So this one has a huge ride. I think it'll have everything you want in a Team State final matchup if it comes to fruition. We never know. Wild things happen at Team State. My favorite thing about Team State and this isn't a cop out of everything we talked about the last hour the stuff that no one expects to happen when it happens and the place goes crazy that is what it is all about that you're absolutely right the atmosphere it's it's uh I'm pumped.
SPEAKER_00Yeah like I said yesterday I was kind of down I wasn't really on the top of my game for doing podcasting we started talking about these lineups and potentials and this is where it gets real fun.

I know they could change but how do how do we like the production value tonight?
