SPEAKER_01Pumped to be here, Teague. This will be exciting. A little D1 action. Had a lot of fun doing my notes on this one.
SPEAKER_00Same here, brother. Same here. Looking forward to talking. It is a deep sectional. I'll tell you that much. Very much so. No, we're making our picks for uh our top six, but there's there's a lot of teams that could sneak into that mix here. Yeah, a lot of discussion.
SPEAKER_01I had uh um I I you know this is probably shouldn't start talking about already, but I have a pretty clear-cut top four. Those I'm pretty comfortable on. Maybe the position could be off a little bit. I had a good battle for my five and six, and then uh uh along with my first two teams out. So it was uh it was fun going over the stats for that.
SPEAKER_00Love it. So we got D1 at sectional E. A lot of ranked wrestlers in this. I know Steve's gonna pour over that in just a moment. Uh individual sectional at Milton, team sectional at Kettlemoraine. This one ranges from Lake Country down to uh Beloit. Pretty much the area that it spans. Mix of teams from last year's Burlington, Greenfield, Fond duck, Wilmot, and there's one more in there. I feel like I might be missing. Oh, brown deer. Five different sectionals, Steve, which again gonna make things interesting. We'll talk about that once we get to uh the picks, but it's uh yeah, very brand new grouping. Yeah, we got a lot of things to pour over.
SPEAKER_01Brand new grouping, a lot of you know, as you as you look at the assignments, a lot of tough teams drawn from different areas, and you're uh not wondering why they're they're together, but kind of as a fan wishing they weren't together, right? Uh I think there's some solid teams in here that are gonna be left at home that would have a shot maybe at other sectionals. But as we talk about, and uh that happens every single year. It happens in cross-country. I just gave a scenario the other day. Somebody, it happened every year for my daughter's cross-country team, right? So it happens in other sports, it's just the way it is, and gotta battle through it. But you talked about the toughness of the sectional. 31 ranked, and I think as far as sectionals go, that's the third most we've had so far. D2 sectional C uh had 32, and D2 sectional E had 34 so far. So this is the third most. There's two number ones. Uh 132 has uh the toughest weight preseason, according to the grappler. Has four ranked, has number one, number three, number four, and number seven. So a lot of studs right there. That's obviously preseason. There's a lot gonna be shooking out there. But I will tell you that this I think this sectional, we've got a long way to go. But this sectional has definitely the most incoming ranked freshmen. Teague, take a guess. How many ranked freshmen, incoming ranked freshmen do you think are in this one? Six. Oh, well, never mind. Good good number, right? Good, good guess, Teague. Nice job. Yep. So six is quite a bit, right? We've had, we've had, did you look it up or did you was that really a guess? No, I probably doesn't have a good high number for incoming ranked freshmen. You're you're always a savant when it comes to that kind of stuff. I'm sorry. I think of course, of course, you got it. We're gonna chalk that one up to lucky. Better be lucky than good sometimes, right? Um, but yeah, so I I think for the most part, we've had one, maybe two at each individual sectional, as far as freshmen coming in that are ranked. And man, sixty incoming freshmen just says uh says a lot about the development, right, of this area. Um, and then last thing before Teague gets rocking and rolling is uh I did meet the the great official Russell Learing in Milton. What my wife and I went out to eat, uh, and he told me he listens to the podcast. And he said, uh he said, Steve Teague, and he mentioned your name specifically, Teague, and he said, Man, you guys throw out names so fast. If you know how Russ talks, you man, you guys throw out names so fast, you guys gotta slow down. You know, and and so Russ, Teague and I will do our best to enunciate and go slow. But I, you know what, Russ, when you get excited talking wrestling, sometimes it's like you talking on Saturday night. Uh uh, it's uh you start talking fast, right? So, but Russ does a great job. He's the voice of Milton football on the radio, calls the calls the games there. I I enjoy listening to him as well. Oh, and by the way, um uh the old old timers are gonna realize this, but Milton T Milton used to have a college. I don't know if you knew that or not. It's called Milton College. And on that particular night, they were having a Hall of Fame. Uh, and at the establishment I was at, this name you will probably have never heard this name before, but he was a great Seattle Seahawks quarterback for a long time from Milton College. Dave Craig was actually in the same same establishment I was in Milton.
SPEAKER_00Wow. That's who uh that's who the the not with sports anymore, but Travis Wilson named the quarterback award after him. Oh given to the best quarterback every year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, so it was I mean, he's obviously been on the NFL. I can't I don't remember his last year, but Milton College closed down. My wife looked it up 1982, so kind of giving some math as far as when he was in the NFL.
SPEAKER_00He was a Milton College guy.
SPEAKER_01Milton College, yep. I don't know where he went to. I didn't look. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Wonder how many guys got drafted to the NFL from Milton College.
SPEAKER_01I I'm gonna I'm gonna take the uh I'm gonna take one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was gonna say it's the over-under set of one and a half. Um knowing that Dave did it, I'm still taking the under. I'll take the under on that one. Good stuff, Steve. A lot of a lot of celebrity sightings for you this week. Yeah, Russell Leary, Dave Craig. I mean, that's that's big time. Well, see, we got 16 teams in here, of course, as we do all the D1 and D2 sectionals, and uh we are starting off with a bang arrowhead, and I uh got my gear. Well, I don't have I have different gear, but I have uh my arrowhead wrestling golf outing cup, thermos. Sorry, whatever you want. You got you won that, right? I did. I won a couple of things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I I don't remember having one of those, so that one must definitely wasn't a door prize. Well, I mean a giveaway, right? Uh uh I did go golfing this week, and though they'll like to hear that I use my teabag. I got a I got a teabag as a door prize, and I use my teas, and I use a lot of them, seem to break quite a few.
SPEAKER_00You're just too strong for golf. I think that might be it. Go love it. Great. We got Mike in the chat. I know we talked about the rankings already, but yeah, grappler is down right now. Don't know what it's down for. Uh that is that is as of 6.09 on a Tuesday, September 22nd. So if you're listening to this on your drives on Wednesday, whenever you listen to the show, probably back up. Melissa operates pretty quickly with that stuff. So yeah. So when it comes back up, check out the rankings. Craig, I am not throwing that thermos away, sir. Don't know what the beef is with Muskego and Arrowhead, but I have no idea. First team up. There we go. Arrowhead, second in the Fond du Lac sectional with 198. At team sectionals, they beat Okonamawalk 48 to 27, lost to Slinger 38 to 32, then lost to Hartford 44 to 34 for a third place finish, returning 10 of their 13 starters and 139 points. They are losing uh Wyatt Sandoval, who placed fifth at state at 138 pounds last year. Up they're bringing back Mason Moody, who placed fifth at 113, Don Beal, who was the state champ at 120 pounds in dominating fashion, Cole Duchateau, who placed fifth at 144 pounds, along with third place sectional finishers, Devin Johnson and Nolan Farrell, and two more top eight finishers. I gotta say this, Steve, uh you see this in almost every sectional. Uh Johnson and Farrell, I think two guys very much with the potential to uh make that jump from not qualifying for state to making the podium this year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I agree. Devin Johnson was uh behind nigh and uh um Christian Bass lost to Christian Bass or Parker, lost to Parker 10 to 5, Christian Bass 4-3. Nolan lost five to two in the semis to Garin, right? So just uh very close to two solid wrestlers. I started doing some research uh a little bit with this team. Then I realized I didn't have to go far because Arrowhead in the preseason rankings has eight state ranked wrestlers, which is absolutely amazing. I'm gonna go right down the line, and uh when I'm done, I'll probably need some water. But we got number four ranked Colton Mueller, 120 pounds. He is a sophomore, 46 and 7 last year. Number two ranked Mason Moody. Colton Mueller's a Milton guy, isn't he? Oh, yeah, yeah. So then they only have seven ranked. I apologize, folks. So that's snuck in there. I apologize for that. Only seven ranked. So uh maybe when we're making ranked that in mind. I I will tell you this. That was uh sometimes my notes are happening super late at night and uh popping through the rankings, and and there it happens. So hold on, Milton folks. That one's coming a little bit. Uh Mason Moody is number two. Zan Beal, uh, I you're not gonna guess what he's ranked, Teek, but um, he's at 132 pounds career record of 72 and six. He is number one, by the way. Uh number 14, Braden Bergman at 138. He is a sophomore. The encore, Cole Duchateau, is ranked number three. Nolan Farrell, who we just talked about, is number four. And Luke Dryck at the big fella, who we saw at the Gulf outing, looking good, uh, is the number two ranked guy at 285 pounds. And one of those sixth ranked wrestlers, uh, hopefully I'm saying his name right. Incoming freshman at hurt six pounds. John Mensah, uh, the second is number six.
SPEAKER_00Luke is not even included in these returning numbers because he didn't wrestle in the postseason last year.
SPEAKER_01That is a good point. So there's something for you. Uh, incoming freshman not in the returning wrestlers, and Luke. So interesting, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, also speaking of Luke, uh, how about Nolan Farrell's progression, man? I mean, we've we've known him for a while, we've seen him, and uh the the dude shed off the baby fat, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, mentioned that to his mom and dad, and uh mentioned that to him too when I saw him. I couldn't believe it. That's uh that dude has been hitting the right weight room. I was gonna mention it to him, but I was a little scared. So anyway, Teague, I have um I know it's early in the podcast, but I came up with a little did I freeze on you for a second, but you're you're back. Oh, I'm back. Okay. Uh my trivia question is coming early. And uh, fans in the chat, feel free to to um tie chime in on this one. This might be a little bit easy one for you, Teague. I know I asked this once when I was doing a live broadcast without you uh Arrowhead and Mosquego, but uh Arrowhead has 32 individual state champions, right? Yeah. So my question is there are, and I think you can get this, there are seven teams that have more state champions than them. Uh there, and there's one that's tied. So there's eight teams, okay? Uh, and I'll give you one of them because one of them, as far as I know, is no longer a program or a school that has wrestling, and that's Milwaukee South. Milwaukee South has uh it's not the same as South Milwaukee, so don't get confused. But they have 39. All right. So with the remaining seven, one that's tied, can you name them? And if you get them in order, I'll really be impressed. But if you just give them to me, I'll be I'll be all right with that as well.
SPEAKER_00I won't be able to do in order, but Mineral Point, Stoughton, Luxembourg, Rapids. Yep, Coleman. Yep, that's five. Oh, this is where it gets tricky. Stratford. No, Stratford has 30.
SPEAKER_01Stratford has 30. So you said there's seven more and there's one tied. Uh yeah, so you have two left to get because I already gave you a Milwaukee south. Yep. Oh man, I don't I don't know if I could. Well, do you I mean, for sake of time, should we move on? Or I mean I I'm really Florida, you don't get this one. If you didn't get the other one, I'd be not surprised.
SPEAKER_00But Florida didn't get one of them. Um so historically good program. Yep.
SPEAKER_01You said so far, you said uh uh Craig, actually surprisingly, Kakona is not in there. Kakona, um, I can tell you how many Kakona has, but they're not they're not quite there yet. They're racking them up. They are racking them up, but they're they're when I say only, you know, they're where they're at just kind of started in the in the late 90s, right?
SPEAKER_00Part of me wanted to say Dodge, but I know like 80% of their state titles have come in the last six years.
SPEAKER_01All right, let's review the ones you said, because I know I'm confused here. You said Mineral.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Milwaukee South, Coleman. Yep. Dodgeville isn't it.
SPEAKER_01No, and I should have done them in order, so I I did not, but and you and you kind of went out order. So uh the two that you missed, so they're tied, and uh it wouldn't be a show unless I got this team name in. They're tied at 32 with Athens. Oh and then you missed at 30. Yeah, Craig's got it. Craig's got it. It's not Evansville, but it's the other E Town. It's Ellsworth. Ellsworth is a little bit of a bigger one. Ellsworth. Ellsworth has 33. Good job in the chat. I love it. Chat was going crazy on that one. Yeah, they were they were popping. The little 30-second delay was was uh killing me.
SPEAKER_00I man, that that kind of the Ellsworth one stings a little bit. Athens I can live with, but yeah. Um good one, Steve. I like that trivia.

SPEAKER_00Also, did you see Jeremy's comment? He said uh that Dave Cre Dave Craig Milton College connection came up in a conversation he had with a coach from Washington State. From Washington, the state of Washington. While he was in Philadelphia, Jeremy was wearing Milton high school gear.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_00This is this has to be the most times that Dave Craig has been mentioned on a podcast in a minute.
SPEAKER_01And that that both Jeremy and I had a conversation about Dave Craig on Saturday. What what time was it, Jeremy? Because mine with Russell Leary was probably about uh I'm gonna go 7 o'clock, 7 p.m.
SPEAKER_00Well, Steve, while we're nice job. Yeah. Now I'll I'll take that. I didn't uh wish I could have done one team better at least, but it's okay. I w I'll give it to you. That's a good that's a good nod. That's a good nod. So all right, Steve. Let's talk Lake Geneva Badger. The Badgers were 13th in the Burlington sectional with 55 and a half points. They returned six of their seven starters and 37 points. They'll be led by third place sectional finisher uh Matthew Hamholm, fourth place sectional finisher Antonio Montemuro, and one more uh top eight finisher.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you mentioned Montemuro. Must be a brother. Dale Montemerro is one of those freshmen that we talked about, one of those six freshmen. Oh, hey, I'm sorry. Why do I have a record for him? Oh, but Dale is number nine. I'm gonna do a check because I have a record next to him and I shouldn't. So maybe.
SPEAKER_00Antonio uh placed at sectionals last year, so he's not a freshman.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I have well, hold on that, folks, as uh T oh and I can't because the grappler's down, right? Um, well, anyway, we'll check on that one when the grapple grappling grappler is back up. So Pearson's um Pearsons, yeah. Once again, folks, I put when my notes start happening post 10 p.m., you never know what's gonna happen. So but I will definitely I definitely want to double check on that because I did have him as one of my six freshmen that were not or uh one of my six freshmen, so I'm gonna be able to correct that if I can.
SPEAKER_00Well, while you're checking that, Steve, let's talk about Beloit Memorial. They were 14th in the Burlington sectional with 54 and a half points. They return eight of their 11 starters and 39 and a half points. They'll be led by third place sectional finisher Xavier McBride, along with three more top eight finishers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Xavier McBride, heavyweights, uh, took third place as Steve Teague mentioned. 32 wins. Eric Hansen, another top return at 157 pounds last year. Uh record of 35 and 10 for Beloit Memorial. Uh, of the eight returners, five of them are going to be seniors.
SPEAKER_00And a sentimental value for Beloit Memorial, the the alma mater of the voice of the Wisconsin Wrestler Podcast intro, Elante Walker.
SPEAKER_01That's fantastic. Always gets a uh nod every single year. I give him a lot of credit. Year one, when T had the intro, and the guy said my last name correctly, which isn't easy to do. Uh, even my own high school screws up my last name sometimes. So I was really impressed by the fella.
SPEAKER_00He's a celebrity now, somewhere in the Rust belt. Over in Pittsburgh, I think maybe. Yeah. So thank you, Elante, for that. Shout out Elante Walker. Hey, we have a Burlington who was first in the Burlington sectional with 199. They beat Westosha Central 46 to 24, lost to Milton 42 to 35, beat Kenosha Indian Trail 42 to 35, and beat Oak Creek 42 to 36, getting second place at team sectionals the hard way. Returning seven of their 11 starters and 104 points. They are losing state qualifiers Patrick Scruns, Landon Jacobs, and Carson Kramer. But they return a state place winner and Cash Vanderwerf, who was fourth at 106. Third place sectional finishers Will Guerra, Mason Coldway, and Elijah Myers. And a fourth place sectional finisher, Campton Neighbor.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Cash after that state placing last year comes in as the number two seed at 113 pounds. Uh Will Guerra, 25 wins last year last year. Mason uh uh Mason was 34 and 10, and Elijah Myers 27 and 9, and that was at 190 pounds.
SPEAKER_00Craig giving uh I believe Badgers David DeVia some love. Jeremy's waiting for the UCD tournament to begin, and uh Mike, maybe he's a red shirt freshman. There's uh that is certainly a more common occurrence.
SPEAKER_01Right, yeah, it is, right? And uh what a time for the the website to be down. So um yeah, I say some information and I can't uh well I've already had the uh Milton guy in arrowhead, so maybe I'm just trying to tick a lot of people off tonight.
SPEAKER_00Let's talk Elkhorn Area, who was 12th in the Burlington sectional with 63 points. They returned eight of their 13 starters and 25 points, and they are returning four top eight sectional finishers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Jordan Zollner, one of those, uh 21 wins last year at 165. There was a Zollner. Maybe somebody in the chat remember, I could have sworn there was a Zollner about four years ago, uh, back when my son was a senior. Really solid wrestler. Maybe it was three years ago. Uh Suman is a brother. Jordan's a younger brother of him. Uh, went to state a couple times. I can't remember if he placed or not. Uh and and Declan Pidot, I'm gonna say, uh P-E-I-D-O-T, uh at 21 wins at 144. So two solid returners for Elkhorn. Last uh mascottiague of Elkhorn is the Elks. Yeah, the mighty Elks. That's gotta be the only what's Elkhart Lake. That's gotta be the only Elks in the state.
SPEAKER_00I could could do some recon on Elkhart Lake real quick. Steve, did you see that the McGuanago career takedown record holder likes your shirt? No. Oh, Chad LaMiner.
SPEAKER_01Nice. The the biggest biggest uh, let's see, biggest quads for a little man we know, right?
SPEAKER_00Imagine if we could combine him and Cody Andres. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01I tell you. I say it, I know I say this all the time, and Chad, you know, every time he sees me, he comes right with that smile. But Chad Leviner won, I don't know how many career vic victories he had, but he had to win 90% of those just walking on the mat. Like, Coach, look at the quads on that guy.
SPEAKER_00Just pure intimidation factor.
SPEAKER_01I can't shoot I can't shoot into those.
SPEAKER_00Uh Hey, up next, Sussex Hamilton, who was second in the Brown Deer uh Sectional with 219. That team sectionals they lost to Brookfield East 40-30 and beat Wisconsin Lutheran 47-27. Returning nine of their starters from that team sectional squad. Losing three state qualifiers and Reese Moore, Jaden Ross, and Weston Hackbarth. They're bringing back Frank Bingen and Austin Riack, who qualified at 106 and 132, respectively. Third place sectional finisher, Trayton Altuve. Fourth place sectional finisher Body Williamson, and three more top eight sectional finishers.
SPEAKER_01And Hamilton does have two runner, I'm sorry, two ranked wrestlers. Number nine, Frank Bingin at 106. And Altuve, who he just met in Trayton, uh is number eight at 190, 72 and 20 career record. 48 last. I was checking this out, looking 40 and 8. That's a solid record. He had a loss, he had a loss in the semis and ultimate tiebreaker. So that's one of those positions. You win that one, you go to the finals. Maybe everything else is different for you, right? And uh, but that close to going state to state for trading.
SPEAKER_00All right, Steve, I'm in a little bit of a maroon five mood here. So let's talk a little bit about uh my favorite maroon five album, Songs About Janesville. Start off with Janesville Craig.
SPEAKER_01Is that is that real?
SPEAKER_00No, it's uh it's Songs About Jane, I think. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh Janesville, okay. I not a big Maroon 5 fan, so I I didn't get the reference, but that's all right.
SPEAKER_00They didn't they didn't age well. Songs about Jane, great album. Then after that, got a little too poppy. But Janesville Craig, 11th in the Burlington sectional with 70 points, returning all of their points and seven starters, bringing back state qualifiers, Caleb Busfield and Leo Getchell, who qualified at 120 and 150, along with third place sectional finisher Jude Seaver and one more top eight finisher.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so they have uh Jude Seaver, as Teague mentioned, he's 27 and 3, 113 pounds. You take a look at a record like that and wonder what the heck happened. But going back to sectionals, had Rugg and Colton Mueller, who transferred to Arrowhead uh just just in. Uh just kidding, that's a joke, right? If you're if you're just tuning in, you gotta go to the beginning. I put Colton Mueller uh with Arrowhead's program accidentally, still wrestling for Milton, but uh had Rug and Mueller in front of him. Uh they do have two one-ranked wrestler, Leo Getchell, uh at 157, was 45 and 5. He is a senior.
SPEAKER_00And James Dill Parker, who was seventh in the Burlington sectional with 130 points. Get this, Steve. I don't think this will happen uh pretty often across the state on sat on that Saturday. They were 0.5 away from qualifying for team sectionals. Yeah, who I forgot I wrote that down as well.
SPEAKER_01Who was that? Who are they behind?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Remember off the top of your head? Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_00Was it a team in here? Oh, dang, I can't think about it. It was a team that's covered already. Uh yeah, they returned 10 of their 12 starters at 94 points. They lose Cody Slater, who plays third at 215. Don't worry, they have another state place winner coming back. That is Mr. Dominic McGuire, who was sixth at 126, along with fourth place sectional finishers Braden Gary and Brennan Braunreiter, and five more top eight finishers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Braden Gary at 138 last year, 41 wins. Dominic McGuire, uh, who you just mentioned, comes in as the number three guy uh at 138 pounds, 127 and 31 career record teague. I think if we combined yours and my wins in high school, I don't think we had 127. I don't know if we're at 100. We don't well if you did. You have 25, because uh I had 26. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I had 76. So it'd be close. It'd be close. Okay. Well, it's funny because you think think of records. When I was a freshman, uh at uh 135, can you believe that, T? My I had 21 total matches on varsity. I was six and fifteen. So that was that was back when uh you went O2 barbecue at tournaments. You lose twice, and I did a lot of that my freshman year.
SPEAKER_00If you include the three wins that I got en route to my win, my championship at the launch on the Lemonware JV tournament in Boston, then we're we're in the clear for sure. I I think it's pretty touch and go right now with the math. Hey, Kettle Moraine, fourth in the Greenfield sectional with 182. They lost to West Dallas Central 42 to 33 at team sectionals, returning eight of their nine starters in 161 points. Losing Ian's Prado Jr., who qualified for state. They're bringing back four state qualifiers. Hunter Conkl, 106, Spencer Prado, 138, Braden Daly, 150, and Omarion Dennis at 285, along with third place sectional finisher Sam Schluter, fourth place sectional finisher Milo Knuth, and two more top eight finishers. I feel like there's been a Schluter at Kettle Moraine since I've started this podcast. It seems like it, right?
SPEAKER_01Kettle Moraine doesn't return a lot of numbers, right? They didn't have a full team last year, but they just seem to return solid guys year after year. Sam Schleter, one of those guys, third place. Uh, you know, you always take a deep dive when a guy finishes third. All right. Did he, you know, who was he behind? Behind two very well-known names, Deuce Sharp and Mason Techmeyer, one of the all-time great names in wrestling in the state of Wisconsin. Uh, those four guys you talked about coming in ranked. Hunter Conkle, number 11 at 113. Spencer Prado, number eight. He's got 113 career wins going into a senior year. Number 10, Braden Daly at 157. And number 10, O'Marian Dennis, the big fella at 285, is ranked number 14.
SPEAKER_00Moving on to uh the the killer M's. And we'll be talking about they go by the Redhawks, but I'm going to call them the monsters tonight, Steve. It's a rock. Milton Monster youth program shirt. Milton was second in the Burlington regional sectional with 174 points. They beat Burlington 42 to 35, and Oak Creek 46 to 33 at Team Sectionals. Team State, they lost 53 to 22 to Kacona. Man, this is scary for Milton. They're bringing back, well, Milton's opponents, anyways, bringing back 12 of their 14 starters and 164 points. This list includes Brody Lewis, who won a state title at 106 last year and is now on a four-timer watch. Colton Mueller, who won at 113, Colin Loveland, who qualified at 120, David Billhorn, made at 126, and Gage Gross, who won a title at 165, along with three more top eight finishers. And Steve, dare I say, Milton Wrestling. Are they back?
SPEAKER_01Come on, they don't ever go anywhere, right? They you know we talk about down years all the time, and down years is uh uh for Milton is still pretty darn good. Um during those 12.

SPEAKER_00That's what I mean it in the in the bar that Milton sets, because I still think we've talked about them in the team sectional convo almost every year. So when I say Milton back, I mean like is Milton back, or we're gonna be talking about them in state combos again here.
SPEAKER_01I was well, here's a news flash. I'm gonna be talking about them. Um, they did make my top six, so I don't want to, you know, uh have any suspense there, right? But I was looking back as I was kind of analyzing matches, and I really think I don't know, I I didn't talk to Pat Yelk about this, right? We had him on we had him on the show, and I should have. I almost think like you know, I was looking at some of their duels early in the year that they lost, and you can't even compare them because Milton's whole program is about how they peaked in the postseason. Every single year we see it, they have guys that I don't want to say come out of nowhere, right? But they're you know, they'll have a guy with 10 losses, and oh, by the way, he just made the finals in division one. It's just it's crazy. So um, yeah, you know, not impressed with some of their dual mate losses, but they're they're just they're just building for that. They had um 12 guys returning, a little news flash free coming up why that number should have an asterisk next to it. Five in the top five, but they did have four guys that that play six. They had a little couple of injury bugs with the the big fellas last year. So a few of those guys are returning. So they didn't look as tough up top as as they probably will be uh this year. Um, you know, it's funny. I'm gonna go ahead with the ranked guys, but Bill Horn and Loveland qualified for state at 126 and 132, not in the rankings, right? So uh, but here are the here are the ranked guys. Oh, I'm gonna say him yet. Brody Lewis, uh, number one. And he is number one at 113. Colton Mueller, who's oh, uh it was only a 15-minute transfer. He's back to Milton. Uh he's number four. I'm sorry, I just think that's hilarious that I put him with arrowhead. Uh number one is Gage Gross, and Gage uh is up to 190, kind of a kind of a tweener weight right now. He's got 96, 96 wins right now going into his junior year. I I was looking at Gage Gross's um record, I'm sorry, his track to state last year. I still wish I would have had the guts to pick him. That would have looked like a great pick. I I thought about it, but I didn't I didn't pull the trigger, so can't call it as a great ones. But he had a uh quarterfinals, a 14-10 win over Kuchanan. Uh Kuchanan, 11-8 win over De Grote. Think of these names, Teague. And the finals, a 1-0 win over Meiner Brockhart. He beat a number four, number one, and a number two. And dare we say that's a little bit of the clutch gene. So um Teague, they also do have two incoming ranked freshmen. They got uh, oh, I probably shouldn't have said this, but uh, and I'm gonna try to skip the the slide. Number three, Cashin uh uh hopefully I wrote Trudart. He's uh at 106. And then they also have uh this is kind of a cool name, and I've heard this name mentioned a few times. Number seven at 132 incoming freshman freshman Hawk Garrett. Oh, that's a sick name. That is pretty sick, yep.
SPEAKER_00Steve, there there can't be much separation in in Badger Conference land, distance-wise between Milton and Monroe, right?
SPEAKER_01Uh Milton and Monroe, uh, no, it's it's probably about an hour. I mean, travel-wise, a little over an hour. I mean, you gotta get on Highway 11 and go west.
SPEAKER_00I just didn't know if there's any relation between the Milton Trudehearts and the Monroe Trudehearts, because I know we're talking Addie Trudeh next week for their girls' sectional preview.

SPEAKER_00Well, Big Muck was in six in the Greenfield sectional with 158.5 points. They beat West Dallas Hale 55 to 22, Waukeshaw West 47 to 30, and lost to Muskego 48 to 27, bringing back nine of their 13 starters and 73.5 points. They do lose Gavin Meineke and Seth Krause, who uh qualified for state. Their returning state qualifier, Gabe Erdman, third place sectional finishers Chase Nels and Wendell Broush, and one more top eight sectional finisher.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Gabe, as you mentioned, uh at state had that first round win, 16 to 13 over Jaden Ross at Hamilton. Uh they do come in with three ranked wrestlers, according to the grappler, number 11, Chance Nails. Uh he is a senior. Gabe Urman, number 11. He is a junior. Number 10, Wendell Brosh at uh he's a uh that's at 165, and he is a senior. Uh just a note on McGuanego, Tig, I was hoping somebody would be able to do a stat on this of where uh teams finished in the sectional and then what seed they got and then where they finished. I mean, somebody with that's good with numbers. But McGuanago, here's an interesting thing. Sixth as a um sixth as a team, but at team sectionals made it to the final, right? So so individual sectionals play sixth and then made it to the finals at the team sectional. And I just think it shows their ability. Um Iguanago year after year, their ability as far as how to wrestle as a team and dual meat wrestling.
SPEAKER_00Staying in uh classic eight country, we have O'Conn. Ocon and Milwaukee was first in the Fondal Act sectional with a 209.5 points. They beat Germantown 50 to 17, lost 48 to 27 to Arrowhead, and lost 55 to 22 to Hartford. They're returning eight of their 14 starters in 111 points. They are losing the four-time state champ himself, Kellen Wolbert, who won his fourth state title at 150 last year. Uh they're returning Lincoln Swick, who will placed third at 120 pounds, and Christian Bass, who was fifth at 157, along with third place sectional finishers Will Ross and Tyson Najac, and two more top eight finishers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean I'm just looking at all my notes for this team and wondering where the heck to start, right? Uh they had a couple thirds that we're talking about. Uh Will Ross was one of them at 113 at Beta. Mason Moody and August Lubinsky ahead of them, right? So uh state, the two place winners, both freshwomen. Tig, are you starting a Lincoln Swick uh president and founder of the fan club, like you you did for um oh my gosh. The wrestler. Keegan O'Toole. That's uh you seem to be a big Lincoln Swick fan.
SPEAKER_00I am a big Lincoln Swick fan. I'm uh I'm also a big Eric Swick fan. Just the few tidbits from that 1995 state reel that I watched. I mean, just gets you hooked.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Swick Swick six to four loss in the semis, right? But had wins over D. Piazza, Walich, and uh George Hamilton. So you think about that resume, uh uh crazy. Uh Christian Bass um only had a three to two semifinal five semifin victory loss in the semis to Metzler. Um three ranked wrestlers on the bottom. I'm only gonna say I I know it's five. I did not write the rankings down. I'm just gonna assume Swick and Bass are ranked, uh, but I did not write it down. Uh but they do have three more. 14, Ethan, number 14, Ethan Bass. Or I'm sorry, Ethan Schweitzer. Uh number five, Will Ross at 126. Oh, and there it is. Swick is uh ranked number three. I just did not write Bass's rankings down as far as uh uh team-wise.

And they, because of the two teams, I found this out, uh, because of the teams that appealed to go down to division two, Waterford was one of those teams that got bumped up to Division I.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so I bet they're pretty pumped about that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're they're loving the new appeal to go down a division rule. Oh, that is not only not that Waterford's not used to competing D1, but on this year at this sectional to get bumped back up, right? I mean, they've got to be. With this team, how many start? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Thinking, uh, yeah, thank you. Um, I won't mention the two teams that got appealed to go down, but they're probably happy with them. Let's just say they're not Jaguars fans and whatever mascot the other team is.

SPEAKER_00New one's not great. Yeah. Don't mess with the new one. Uh Waterford, back to Waterford's team. They were third in the Wilmot Union sectional with 166 points. They beat Jefferson at 49 to 30, lost to Wilmot 52 to 24, then beat Shorelin Luther in 49 to 24. They returned nine of their 13 starters in 109.5 points. They lose at Camden Shaw, who qualified for state last year. But they're bringing back at Cameron Dennis, who qualified at 106. Teddy Zilikowski, qualified at 120, third place sectional finisher, David Howe. Fourth place sectional finisher Philippe Grell, and two more top eight finishers amongst them. One of our favorite Steve, the big man, Peyton Schuster.
SPEAKER_01I love it. Peyton Schuster, uh, the big fella at 285, 32 and 8 last year. And here's Teague with Cale Ice Gang and Sam Incha gone. Has Peyton taken over as the tallest wrestler in the state? We're gonna have to take a look into that final. Just a junior last year. Maybe he packed on a couple inches, and now he's up to a Cale Lice gang level at 6'9. Who knows? Cale and Peyton did wrestle each other in a match, and I got I had filmed from it. Somebody sent it to me. Uh, that was a lot of arms and legs flailing around. But uh uh Cameron Dennis and uh Teddy both both had 36 wins last year, and both, you know, did place in state, but got a round two win, so got that experience down there.
SPEAKER_00Waterford, their their two biggest weaknesses this year: their enrollment and uh the legislative process, I guess.

SPEAKER_00I have nothing to add to that. Well, going from the most intimidating mascot to the goslings of Watertown. They were ninth in the final act sectional with 89 points. They were turned 10 of their 13 starters and 56 points. Bringing back Bryson Bustler, who was a runner up at 132. He made that big jump. I think he was a guy that went from did not make state to a placing at state, if I recall correctly. And they're bringing back four more top eight finishers to boot. What's up to eat?
SPEAKER_01I'm still laughing at the most intimidating mascot to Watertown just off Highway 26. They have two ranked wrestlers, number six, Isaiah Knightzel and uh Bryson Bustler. Uh yeah, you just talked about it, right? And uh, I want to say come out of nowhere, but lost in the finals to Schlumpf 4-2. Slump is like, I don't know. I I I we we were just so impressed with Slump. And if you lose four to two to him, uh I I extremely uh impressive. Uh had winning scores in Bustler 4-1, um, two to one over Oliver Larson, and then 11-6 over Evan Fahy. Uh that was that one was in the semi. So I tell you what, that's a battle test of dude at the state tournament.
SPEAKER_00And our last two schools uh going on our penultimate team here. We have the Waukeshaw biumvirate, which just doesn't sound nearly as cool as Triumvirate. Uh Waukeshaw South up first. They're 14th in the Greenfield sectional with 31 points, bringing back 11 of their 12 starters and 23 points. Four of those were top eight sectional finishers.
SPEAKER_01Sounds good. We got Waukeshaw South. Five of those 11 returners are gonna be seniors, so good for them. They got a solid uh returner in Elder Bazoff is 144. Elias Green, T, one of those incoming freshmen. Not gonna believe the weight class. 190 pounds uh at number 11 for Walkshaw South.
SPEAKER_00And our last school in the sectional, the Wolverine of Wolverine.
SPEAKER_01Douckshaw West. Yeah, double Wolverines. Love it. You got a gosling and double Wolverine Wolverines.
SPEAKER_00Walkshaw West was first in the Greenfield sectional with 225 and a half points. They lost to McGuanigo 47 30 and beat West Dallas Center. Control 56-17 at team sectionals, returning eight of their 14 starters in 109.5 points. They do lose Brian Rivera, who plays fifth at 126. Dear Kolk, who qualified at 157, and a Cheaton Malkin, who qualified at 190, also won a state title in a throwing event last year. So shout out, Mr. Malkin. Returning Kyler Van Kiern, who qualified at 113. Torrin Kukanan, who plays fifth at state at 165. There's going to be some log jams in the upperweights, I feel like, Steve. Yeah, a little bit. Along with fourth place sectional finisher Cole Forster and four more uh top eight finishers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, two ranked wrestlers. Uh Kyle Van Kuren, as uh Teague mentioned, is number eight at 120 pounds, has 71 career wins, and Torrin Kuchanan, number one ranked wrestler at 175. So Gage Gross, who he lost to in the quarters. Uh 14 to 10. I do not do you remember that match. 14 to 10 is a lot of points. I remember that match. Yeah, I mean that had to be just absolute fireworks, but uh it was a 14-10. Uh Torin, 142 wins. So he is uh well, 58. A little bit uh that might be a stretch to hit that uh that 200 mark. But uh moving up a weight class, 190, and he is like I said, the number one ranked wrestler.

But anyway, going back to Badger, potentially they have an incoming ranked freshman uh at 113. So and one third, what what was the other Montemuro? What weight class?

SPEAKER_00Uh all right. My one seed, Arrowhead. Two seed. Milton. Okay. And this is where I think things can get a little funky. My three versus six matchup. I have a big muck taking on a Waukeshaw West. Nice. That's a good first-round matchup. Little classic eight action. And my four-five at the top of the bracket. We got OCON. Ocon. And Burlington. All right, what do you got, Steve?
SPEAKER_01Very nice. I'm going to start off uh on the bottom end. Well, I'm going to go back to the top end, but I do want to get my two teams on the outside looking in. Um, really like, you know, T, last three, four years, I've been talking about Watertown, a couple of years close to making that that jump to Team State. And I don't think um, right this year, 10 returners, which is a lot, but the reason why I didn't put them in my top six, only two last year at sectionals that placed in the top five. Uh, the other team, Parker with 10 returners, uh, they're gonna have seven juniors on their squad. But another thing that uh affected me not having them in the top six is they only had four guys that placed in the top five at sectional. So not a lot of point getters there. So those are my two tie teams on the outside looking in, battling for that sixth spot. I will get my number one and number two uh right away. I have Arrowhead and Milton, but I have them reversed, right? So I have Milton first. Yeah, a little switcheroo on on you on that one. And then uh to skip the dramatics, I actually we have the same top six. I just have a different spot. Your 3-6 battle, I have that as my four-five battle. So I have uh uh muck, big muck as number five, and I have walkshaw west as my number four. And then down as what do you got? Well, it doesn't matter. I don't care where you put them. To be honest with you, yeah, I have uh I have uh Big Muck and Walkshaw West up there, and I did not even declare who was who, I just said four and five. Um you can put them wherever you want, doesn't really matter. Scramble them up. Um, and then I have O'Connell wonk as my number three and Burlington as my number six. So we do have the same top six.
SPEAKER_00We are just uh one one thing I thought about, I think people are gonna see this and think because I have uh I had four teams on the outside looking in Hamilton, James Will Parker, Watertown, Waterford. And there there's just something about each of those teams, whether it was the sectional they came from last year coming into this one, or numbers, or strength of returners. There, there's something that just didn't vault them in. And keep in mind you have to have a good team to make the top six in this one. Very much be a good team and miss.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, we've we've done this. Is probably for D1 so far our most competitive from uh top to you know close to the bottom. Uh, but yeah, you're top six. You're not, you know, some sectionals we've talked about, and just having a full team is gonna get you in the top, you know, maybe that sixth or fifth seed. Not in this one. All right, Steve. You go first. Oh, I pick him first. All right, let's go. Um, I am gonna go on the bottom side, uh, Oconnemwalk, right? There's uh uh I had them as a clear number three. My oh, I mentioned this in the beginning. My top four, um, which I think that would make, doesn't matter, you don't have to switch it, but I think I had my top four. Uh I had Milton, I'm sorry, McGuanago is a pretty solid four. Uh I I talked about it earlier that they are a really solid dual team. Uh last year took six at the individual sectional, but made it over the finals. Um, I'm gonna have McGuanago as my uh the winner in that one and advancing to the semis against Milton. Um and then on the top, uh, and before we got on the show, I mentioned this. I don't have a lot of discussion on this one. A lot of times I do a lot of analysis and look at past duels and all that. And I think you can't on this one. There's just too much, uh, too much returning. I'm gonna save my talk for the next one on this one, but I believe that Milton is going to uh advance to the finals over in the Battle of the M's. Milton muck. Uh bottom one is interesting, right? This is a uh uh conference battle. It's always kind of funny year after year that as we look at these two teams and we think one's got the upper hand, and then the other one comes and upsets them. Uh, this is like a this is uh it seems like everything in the in the classic eight is uh it's like Bears Packers, right? These two the teams just really get up for each other and they get hyped. Uh, I think we've we've shown that with numbers coming back um and incoming ranked and arrow arrowhead, I think, is the uh gets the nod in this one over O'Connemak to advance to the final. So my third place matchup is uh Okanomawk versus McGuanegal. This is a fun as I look at this bracket now, I'm thinking this would be a fun one to be at live.

SPEAKER_01Yep. Well, you got what three is that three conference teams, and then you throw in Milton with their history.
SPEAKER_00We are classic eight heavy. I'm sure there's gonna be folks that accuse us of being classic eight favoritists, especially after last year when uh the North Shore conference uh I mean they got first and second, Arrowhead and Ocon got third and fourth. But I I don't know. Hard to bet against the Classic Eight, Steve.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Hey, I have uh McGuanegal and Waukeshaw West. Speaking of Classic Eight, starting off with that right away. Obviously, Steve, we view these teams slightly differently. I think Waukeshaw West could put up a fight, but McGuanagal with their returners feel good about moving them on. OCON and Burlington. Burlington, solid five seed. I don't know if they're gonna have the firepower to uh match the raccoons. So uh moving Ocon on. Brings me to Arrowhead O'Connell. Wow, we'd really do just have the same bracket in different spots. Arrowhead O'Conn. Again, not much to say. I mean, Arrowhead with Dryder coming back and the freshman coming in. I think even without those three, Steve, I would have felt good about putting Arrowhead at least in the finals. And I'll move them on. Milton and Big Muck. I know uh McGuanigo has ruined Milton's postseason party before. If you if you want to get Pat Yao going, ask him about a certain early 2020s regional. Um I was there. You you were that was that wasn't that a year, Steve, that like we were pretty confident that Milton was gonna win it, and then McGonagog just it they had a first round, like you could just feel it.
SPEAKER_01The first round, and it was at Milton's gym. Uh, and I was there doing the commentary for it all day long, and uh, you just like that first round happened, and it was almost like dominoes, right? A kid kind of not ups major upsets, but they were just kind of wins that Milton thought they were gonna get and had to get, and then also I think there was like three key ones in round one, and uh it just when it rains, it pours, right?
SPEAKER_00Hey, that'll I've seen that happen plenty of times at regionals over the year, but it's not happening this year, Steve. I have Milton uh moving on.
SPEAKER_01Tegan, before you get because you're giving your analysis, right? Yes. Right now, I do have a minor trivia question because I just had a hunch we would have these two teams in the finals, both of us. Which team, Milton or Arrowhead, has the most trips to Team State?
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna say Milton, actually. Milton is actually Arrowhead.
SPEAKER_01It is Arrowhead. Yeah, third Arrowhead is 13 and Milton has 10.
SPEAKER_00I when I think of like 90s and 2000s wrestling, I feel like it was a lot of Milton, but quite a big gap, I think, for Milton between their team state appearances, like this one last year and the one prior. Dang. Yeah. Good trivia, Steve. Yeah, it's not bad. I'm feeling I'm feeling it tonight. Arrowhead Milton. This one is going to be a clash. And I know there might be sectional A and B fans that listen to this that are dead set on the fact that the additional team is coming from that one. You cannot count out the additional qualifier coming from here. I mean, both teams returning a double-digit starter. This entire sectional is returning a lot of starters, a lot of strong starters at that. Both returning double-digit starters, multiple state place winners, and it's going to be fun to see like the chess matches, the 50-50 matches, the guys who aren't those state guys, but the ones that make a difference in the lineup. It's going to be huge. Big opportunity for uh Milton to come in and uh winning their sectional last year, great. They beat Arrowhead this year, and we've seen Arrowhead as favorites lose a couple times. I don't know if you call Arrowhead favorites right now if you dive into it, but we've seen Arrowhead with some team sectional losses where it's like, oh dang, like definitely thought they were gonna win. But man, Arrowhead with their incoming freshman and Dryderk coming back. I know I brought it up in the semis already, but they had a lot of talent on that roster already. And I think this group, uh, they're young, they're hungry. I know they have their sight set on trying to win a team state title, and hopefully they don't look ahead too far because they have to go through a really good Milton team. Just like as I do almost every year, I'm taking the Warhawks of Arrowhead to win it.
SPEAKER_01I I was ready for it, Teague. We uh, folks, if you were tuned in Teague um two nights ago, totally had the me as well. I kind of know where he's usually going. He went one direction and right at the last second went the other. It was with Luxembourg and uh oh, who's the uh um gosh teague? What what's the one we just said two nights ago with Luxembourg and uh Wy Weekah Y Week of Fremont. Yep. I thought he was going one, I thought he was going Luxembourg, totally switched it up, went Y Week of Fremont. Um, I I'm not gonna give a lot of analysis.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, sorry, by the way, Steve, real quick. I got Ocon winning the third place match, and then Milton winning the wrestle back. Yeah, uh I have these two the way I tiered it. I have Arrowhead and Milton kind of in their own tier, and then the next three teams kind of jumbled up, and then uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, I have I'll just give you my third place as well. I have O'Connemalak winning for third place. And think about this, right? This is uh too bad they're not taking two at large teams because O'Connemalock with who they have returning uh could easily be at the state team state tournament and compete and do a great job, right? Um here is I I don't have a lot. I think it's gonna be one heck of a duel. Milton and Arrowhead. Um I could already see Randy Farrell at the uh uh coaches convention look at taking a look at Teague and shaking his head. And he's gonna do the same for me when he hears my pick. Well, folks, let's see here. Uh Teague, I did hold one piece of information from you, right? One of these teams from 106, uh well, number one, they're returning a few big fellas, so that should help even them up. From 106 to 138, ah, who am I throwing? I'm not gonna fool anybody. 106 to 138, absolutely stacked. Every guy is ranked, incoming freshman, right? Now, think about that, right? If this duel starts, let's say, I don't know, one let's say it starts at 106, they'll be in a good spot. Or if it ends at that where uh it ends at 138, you go and you gotta figure out the points you need. But here's a little piece that I that I withheld from you. Their backup, 106 pounder. Tell me if you've ever heard this name before. His name is Peach. They got another Peach, and he's your backup. He made day two of Fargo, right? So you add that into the lineup. They're gonna be able to do some playing down there with those little weights, move, move guys around, get some matchups that they want. I just think if you don't have a lead before you get to 106, depending on where the draw is, you are absolutely in for uh one heck of a fight. Plus, you have Gage Gross up there up top, which uh, you know, I don't want to say guaranteed, there's no guarantees, right? But they can maneuver him around.
SPEAKER_00They're they're gonna have to stop the bleeding at the upperweights, I think. Milton is.
SPEAKER_01Exactly, exactly. Like I said, and I think um Milton's kind of arrowhead of past, right? They've had their their super studs, and then but their next tier wasn't right there, right? So they'd give up a lot of points in it. Well, I think they have their super studs, they got a lot of them, but I think their next tier has moved up and done a lot of wrestling in the offseason, and there's no way that I could show my head at the piggly wiggly anymore to pick up my produce if I did not pick the Red Hawks. So, Teague, I'm going with them. You got Arrowhead, I got Milton, and what I think is just gonna be one heck of a team sectional.

SPEAKER_01Uh oh, I thought I said it already. I have O'Connemak winning as well. Oh, okay. No, no worries. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't have a wrestle back. I because, oh yeah, that's what I was talking about, Connemwalk. If they were in a different team section, I think they could, you know, walk away with it. They're they're that's a good program.
SPEAKER_00That's uh that's hilarious that you brought up the Piggly Wiggly, because I was thinking like that's some information Steve would get in the deli section at Piggly Wiggly or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, I just hang around. I hang around the meat section long enough right by the string cheese before I pick up my milk and ice cream, and uh I get a lot of intel.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's gonna be fun. And I I do think, Steve, that these teams, and as they go to tough tournaments, they have the head-to-head, if they get enough head-to-head wins, they get the accolades. I think it will be uh they're very much in the running, whoever the second place team is, to uh be that wild card slot. Oh, agreed.
