Joshua has recently become the leader of all of the Israelites. About two million people. God had told him to be bold and strong because God is with him. Joshua had been one of the spies that Moses sent to spy out the promised land. So Joshua sent two spies to Jericho to the house of Rahab. Rahab was reputed to be a prostitute but that might not be an accurate translation. Rahab hid the spies on her roof and she covered them with flax. But first she had a conversation with them.
Rahab had come to understand what was going to happen. She told the spies that she knew the Lord was going to hand the land over to the Israelites. She wanted to be on the right side. So she betrayed the people of Jericho. Whose side are you going to be on?
