In this world believers are faced with all sorts of temptations, trials, troubles and situations. Jesus knows this and through the Beatitudes given to us in Matthew 5 The Sermon On the Mount, He’s encouraging his followers, to be people of God, looking forward to the blessings God has promised.
The Beatitudes is not a list of what to do but rather a list of how to be. They describe the ideal disciple and his rewards, both present and future. In other words, the Blessed person whom Jesus describes in this passage has a different quality of character and lifestyle than those still "outside the kingdom."
