Show Notes Transcript

Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in medical and urology care and the best urology humor out there.

In this segment, Donna Lee is joined by NAU Urology Specialists' Dustin Fontenot, PA-C. Today, Donna Lee discusses with Dustin her own hair loss and her hair GAIN with the help of the Ryan Wayne Salon in Colleyville, TX.  Donna Lee's new hair stylist, Joseph, has given her a new and happy lease on life with the magic of real hair through a bonded hair topper system and extensions.  As Donna Lee was getting a new, lovely head full of hair a few weeks ago at the Ryan Wayne Salon, so was the man sitting next to her!  The RWS offers this new head of hair for both men and women!  No erectile dysfunction-causing medications needed!  If you'd like to learn more, you can call Donna Lee directly at (512) 238-0762 or email armormenshealth@gmail.com.  You can also find Donna Lee and Joseph's videos on TikTok by searching RyanWayneSalon.

Donna Lee and Dustin also discuss the innovative use of PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, technology for erectile dysfunction. The platelets suspended in your liquid blood plasma help form clots and promote the healing of wounds. When extracted from the blood, the same healing properties of plasma can facilitate regeneration of damaged cells and tissues, making PRP a versatile and highly personalized treatment modality.  At NAU Urology Specialists, Dustin Fontenot uses P shots for the treatment of ED. In the office, he uses a centrifuge to spin plasma out of the patient's blood and then inject that plasma into several areas of the numbed penis to help damaged tissue regenerate. This minimally invasive procedure using platelets from your own blood plasma has no side effects or prolonged recovery. Results occur over time as the healing continues up to twelve weeks after receiving your PRP injections. At NAU Urology Specialists, we offer the P shot for $750, but it may cost thousands at pop-up clinics. For some patients, PRP injections can be combined with both Spark Wave ultrasound therapy treatments (also used to treat ED) and various lifestyle modifications that promote holistic health and support strong erections to maximize results. If you or someone you love suffers from ED and would like to learn more about Platelet Rich Plasma, Spark Wave therapy, or our holistic approach to urology, please give us a call today!

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the Armor Men's Health Hour with Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee.

Donna Lee:

Welcome back to the Armor Men's Health Hour. And as some of, you know, Dr. Mistry has six children and grandchild, so he had to step away to take care of something, I'm sure. So we brought in one of our faves, Dustin Fontenot, PA. How are you, Dustin?

Dustin Fontenot:

Hi. Great. Thanks for having me.

Donna Lee:

We haven't had you on in a minute, and I always tell you my favorite patient that calls for you messes up your name. It's Fontenot, but we have a guy, or actually a few guys, that calls you Dr. Fontenuts.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes. Very appropriate.

Donna Lee:

So welcome Dr. Fontenuts to, back to the show. I thought I'd talk about something we haven't really discussed. We've talked about hair loss before, but with the usage of Finasteride, which causes, which gives you great hair results, but then men have super severe erectile dysfunction issues.

Dustin Fontenot:

Can be, yes.

Donna Lee:

Can be with some patients. So we've talked about that, but we've never talked about like hair loss options, and this is a men's wellness show, Dustin.

Dustin Fontenot:

Okay.

Donna Lee:

So I thought I would talk about my hair loss issue. You've known me for five years now.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes.

Donna Lee:

I had some pretty significant hair loss and it was pretty awful.

Dustin Fontenot:

Okay.

Donna Lee:

And I thought, you know,"I'm feeling pretty good. I go to my clinic, NAU Urology Specialists. I get my hormones. I'm menopausal apparently, but I feel great. I take testosterone with our clinic." I feel like I'm a pretty good person, right?

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes.

Donna Lee:

I would give anybody the shirt off my back, just cause I like to show off my boobs, but I also am a very giving, kind person. But when I looked in the mirror, I saw that 50 year old lady and I was like,"Who the hell is that? And where did her hair go?" After experiencing a lot of depression, I was sitting on my couch watching TikTok, and I found this magical place called the Ryan Wayne Salon in Colleyville, Texas.

Dustin Fontenot:

Where's that?

Donna Lee:

It's up by Fort Worth.

Dustin Fontenot:

Okay.

Donna Lee:

I would've driven or flown to see this man. His name is Joseph. He's my stylist. But he gave me a new lease on life and hair.

Dustin Fontenot:

How did he do that?

Donna Lee:

Well, he did that with lots of hair extensions. But there's a, and just some hope again, but there's a whole hair system that he offers men and women.

Dustin Fontenot:

Really?

Donna Lee:

So not just women. I mean, I'm not talking just to the ladies. But we, I was sitting there getting my hair done and I, for the first time ever I have full hair, I've never had that. And now that I feel amazing on the inside, I feel like I'm matching it up on the outside. So I don't look in the mirror and cry anymore, which was awfully sad. There was a gentleman sitting next to me, a guy in his mid fifties, I guess. He and I were getting the same type of hair system at the Ryan Wayne hair salon. And he came out looking fabulous. And so I thought I have to tell Dustin about this cause you joke about your hair sometimes.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah, I do. Can men get hair extensions?

Donna Lee:

Yeah, they can. And this is a hair topper. So it's like hair on top of your hair, but it's a human, a hundred percent human hair. It's, it cost a pretty penny, lots and lots of many pennies and dimes, but it's, it's worth it. You get what you pay for. But I mean, I'm pretty cute now.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. Looks great.

Donna Lee:

I sent you and your wife, my befores and afters.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes.

Donna Lee:

Anyway, driving back from that appointment was three and a half hours and I took at least a hundred selfies. So...

Dustin Fontenot:

Is it different than a toupee?

Donna Lee:

Yeah. Toupees, you kind of just sit in there and it might fly off in the wind. This is attached to your hair. Like your hair's involved, your head's involved. There's lots of stuff happening and going on, but I think that we should get you on a bus with me.

Dustin Fontenot:

Okay.

Donna Lee:

And we'll get you up to Colleyville to meet Joseph and his team of incredible humans. And go to his TikTok. It's Ryan Wayne Salon. My TikToks are on there. I have three of them with him. I had short, really awful thin, brown hair in the befores. And then I have luxurious, gorgeous, fabulous hair as Dustin can see right now as I flip it around. Right?

Dustin Fontenot:

Right.

Donna Lee:

Okay.

Dustin Fontenot:

So gorgeous.

Donna Lee:

So we're gonna, we're gonna make you go with me to get hair here so you can do a testimonial.

Dustin Fontenot:

Okay.

Donna Lee:

But we talk a lot about all sorts of options for men, for women, but PRP is a hot topic for hair growth. And I thought,"Well, shoot, we don't do PRP at our clinic." But I know lots of people who really talk quite a bit about it. We do, though, platelet rich plasma for what Dustin?

Dustin Fontenot:

We do it for erectile dysfunction.

Donna Lee:

That's right. And so it's pretty amazing stuff. Like, I know you've got a ton of patients on it, but will you explain to the listeners what you do, how you spin the plasma down, how well all that does and how you inject it into the penis?

Dustin Fontenot:

Sure. So PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. And so, what it is is it's that portion of blood that liquified. So you have the red blood cells which are suspended in the fluid, and that's the plasma. And so in, within the plasma, that's also where your clotting factors are. And so when you get cut in your wound clots, that's where it is. And that also is what stimulates healing. So when you get a cut and your skin starts to heal and scab over and things like that, that's all of the, the regeneration and the healing properties that are in your plasma. So for a long time they've been using this for orthopedic injuries, you know, tendons and things like that that don't get really good blood supply.

Donna Lee:

Right.

Dustin Fontenot:

So they'll inject it, that portion, right into the area that's injured to sort of tell the body,"Hey, let's start healing and start regenerating."

Donna Lee:

Is it similar to stem cells?

Dustin Fontenot:

You know, it, it is, is, but it isn't. It's not quite going that far as a stem cell.

Donna Lee:

It's like the first step?

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. It's like the poor man stem cell...kind of thing. So, but then they, then as a lot of things in medicine, they started expounding and finding other new uses for it. So the scalp is one, they're doing that a lot for hair loss. And so what we got into is doing it for ED, because a lot of ed is vascular. The blood vessels start getting old and stiff and breaking down. And so this treatment being injected straight into the penis can help sort of stimulate new blood vessel growth and help repair those old broken down vessels. So it's pretty cool. The process is fairly simple. It's a one, one and done kind of deal. We draw your blood, spin it down through a machine. Through a little process, we extract the portion that's really rich in the plasma. We do a penile block on you, so we numb your penis up first. And then we, it's a series of five injections into the penis.

Donna Lee:

And so the patients though, they leave and they're fine. So how long does the numbing last?

Dustin Fontenot:

A couple hours.

Donna Lee:

Okay. So they can have sex later?

Dustin Fontenot:

For sure. No restrictions, do whatever you want.

Donna Lee:

That's awesome.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. And so...

Donna Lee:

And there's no side effects because it's your plasma.

Dustin Fontenot:

That's right. It's your blood. So usually results will take up to 12 weeks before you, cause it's a process for the healing. But our guys have been seeing really great results, and, which we've talked about a lot is the shockwave, too. So that and really the PRP are the only two options men have right now for regenerative therapy other than just taking a pill or doing something like that to sort of bandaid their ED. This is kind of getting to the root cause and kind of helping restore natural function.

Donna Lee:

And then we promote being a holistic urology group. So this is pretty holistic.

Dustin Fontenot:

This coupled obviously with lifestyle changes, right? So it's pretty rare you have a guy that has a erectile dysfunction that doesn't have some need for improve other areas of his life. He's probably not exercising enough. He's probably not dealing with stress well enough, both mental and physical stress.

Donna Lee:

Sleep apnea.

Dustin Fontenot:

Sleep apnea, being overweight, being inactive, poor diet, all of those things are gonna be contributory as well. So part of the approach obviously is addressing those lifestyle issues, but then these are getting kind of more to the root cause of the problem. So a lot of guys come in and they don't, they don't want to take a Viagra or Cialis, or they don't wanna do Trimix. They say look...

Donna Lee:

They wanna get off it.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah."I wanna try to get back to where I was at least somewhat where I was before." So that coupled with our shockwave is their two options right now available.

Donna Lee:

Right. And so you're doing those, you're doing both of those procedures in some patients, but other patients might get one or the other?

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. So we offer both. I mean we can do them both simultaneously. It's kind of the, the shotgun approach. Obviously, you're not gonna really know which one worked or what is doing what, but most guys don't care. You know? I don't...whatever, if it works, it works. Do everything you can to try to fix it. So...

Donna Lee:

What's the pricing?

Dustin Fontenot:

The P shot is, we're charging$750 for it.

Donna Lee:

Right. And I'm sure that's significantly lower than clinics that just offer P shot.

Dustin Fontenot:

Probably.

Donna Lee:

Yeah. Yeah. I've heard it's in the low thousands for one shot. Up to$2000 at some clinics.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah.

Donna Lee:

And then shockwave therapy, we've lowered our pricing. So you can go to another clinic that just offers shockwave or linear compression ultrasound for$5,000 for the series.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah.

Donna Lee:

And we're offering it now at$1400 because it's just one tool in the toolbox that we have. It's not what we do all day and we're not trying to make money on the patient. Walk us through really quick. If I'm a patient walking in. What, so that guy, I know the guys are sitting there home going,"Wait, what does that look like? I have to show my penis to somebody?"

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes they do. And we judge them, all of them.

Donna Lee:

And then we talk about it after you leave.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yes.

Donna Lee:

But walking in, the patient gets undressed and then what happens? The medical assistant comes in and what takes...?

Dustin Fontenot:

For the P shot?

Donna Lee:

Yeah. Tell us what happens.

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. So they come in and, well the first thing happens is they get their blood drawn. And then we start processing it, and then they'll come in and I will do penile block, which is a, a lidocane injection at the base of their penis and that basically just causes everything to go numb. While that's taking effect, I'll process the blood to extract the portion that's rich in plasma, and then, or rich in platelets, rather. And then, and then we'll come in and do the five injections into the penis itself. And that's it.

Donna Lee:

It's five injections then. You don't have to come back five times.

Dustin Fontenot:

No, no, no, no. I, I inject five different areas in the penis.

Donna Lee:

Okay. Good to know. Well that's easy. And so the needles teeny tiny, like the Trimix needle. It's not gonna hurt.

Dustin Fontenot:

It's like, well they're numb. So of course it's not going to hurt.

Donna Lee:

Oh that's true. It's gonna maybe feel like a little, a little prick on your little[censored].

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah. But they won't feel anything.

Donna Lee:

They'll feel nothing on their little[ censored].

Dustin Fontenot:

Yeah.

Donna Lee:

Okay. Good to know. Well, if you have questions about that, you can certainly reach out to us at 512-238-0762. Going back to the hair thing though, my husband asked me, he says,"So what does it feel like to have all this hair or now?" And I said,"It's kind of like, if I'm a guy and I want a bigger[censored], I'm gonna go to like a [censored] store, or a urologist. But then I walk in with a small penis and I come out with a really big penis...that's what I feel like. That's why I'm swinging my hair around all the time."

Dustin Fontenot:

I got it.

Donna Lee:

Does that make sense?

Dustin Fontenot:

It, totally. Great analogy.

Donna Lee:

I thought that was a perfect analogy. If you wanna learn about PRP, the Ryan Wayne Salon, call us at(512) 238-0762. You can ask for me.
