One of the latest treatments available for prostate cancer is what is known as the HIFU, or high intensity focused ultrasound. This procedure uses an advanced technology which concentrates sound waves so that they can be used to remove cancerous tissue from the prostate gland. Increasingly, more and more men are considering this procedure as it is associated with fewer complications as well as preserving sexual and urinary function. Dr. Mistry answers a question from a listener who has noticed some semen in his urine, also known as hematospermia. Dr. Mistry discusses that this is a very common, usually benign, condition; however, it should not be dismissed. While this usually is not a major health risk, it can be a sign of a more emergent condition such as kidney or prostate cancer.
