In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a question emailed in to the program by you, our listeners! If you have a urology or health-related question that you would like to hear answered on the air, please email your questions to armormenshealth@gmail.com. Questions are answered anonymously (unless otherwise specified), and the answers will likely benefit many people with the same concerns.

Our listener asks, "My urologist has talked to me about a prostate cancer treatment. What is the difference between the CyberKnife procedure and a HIFU?"

-Dr. Mistry reminds us that approximately 350,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. Despite being one of the most common cancers in men, it also has a low mortality rate, meaning that treatments are often effective at targeting cancer and prolonging life. This is great news! Dr. Mistry discusses two of these treatments today.

1. Cyberknife- The Cyberknife uses a form of external beam radiation to target cancer in the prostate gland. This procedure is relatively quick; however, it does involve radiation and can have an impact in organs near the prostate gland.

2. HIFU- Short for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, this procedure uses focused sound waves to target prostate tissue in a non-cutting manner. This procedure does not include exposure to radiation and is a good option for men wanting to minimize possible side effects of surgery on erectile and urinary function.

If you have questions regarding prostate cancer treatments or are seeking a second opinion, our team would love to hear from you. Additionally, Dr. Mistry takes time each week to offer free phone consultations to discuss your unique prostate cancer treatment plan.
