These include a sex therapist, pelvic floor physical therapist, sleep study coordinator, and dietitian. While these can seem unrelated to specific urologic conditions, they are often part of a complete plan to get patients feeling and functioning at their best.
As an example, Dr. Mistry shares that a recent study found an increased risk of death in men aged 40-79 years suffering from erectile dysfunction. Of course, treating erectile dysfunction and restoring sex lives is a top priority, but it cannot be allowed to overshadow the fact that there may be an underlying risk to our heart health. Patients of Urology Specialists will find that they are not only given treatment options for ED, but also have access to cardiac, nutrition, and regular lab assessments as part of a comprehensive care plan.
A similar connection can be made between low testosterone in men and obstructive sleep apnea. Both declining testosterone levels and sleep apnea can result in fatigue and low energy, as well as worsen with a higher bodyweight and age. Despite these similarities, many men on testosterone replacement therapy have never had their sleep tested! Sleep studies can actually be done overnight in the comfort of your own bed. What's more? They can literally add years to your life!
