Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee discuss Peyronie's Disease, a condition in which a curvature of the penis and/or nodules along the penile shaft develops. This is often a reaction to the microtrauma of having sexual intercourse with an erection that has softened over time.
There are many treatment options for Peyronie's patients at Urology Specialists, including the use of low intensity energy directed via ultrasound to the penis. Some studies have shown this method has between a 33% - 60% effectiveness rate in treating the degree of curvature, plaque hardness, and penile pain. Another solid option is for patients to take a daily dose of Cialis to ensure the penis remains as rigid as possible during intercourse to prevent further trauma. In addition, we routinely employ a vacuum erection device as well as a penile straightening device to help stretch the penis and bend things back into the normal location.
There are also more "natural" solutions, such as the use of an L-arginine supplement or an anti-inflammatory supplement like curcumin. Our in-house nutritionist, Robert Mendiola, can help identify any existing inflammatory conditions related to diet and lifestyle that might be worsening your Peyronie's symptoms. Finally, it's important to remember that there is quite frequently an overlap between Peyronie's disease and low Testosterone. Using the combination of bloodwork, a physical exam, and a penile Doppler study, we can examine blood flow and determine if there are significant plaques that need to be addressed.
Whether you prefer more "natural" or traditional medical treatment solutions, you can be sure that Urology Specialists has your urologic health covered!
