Dr. Sandeep Mistry and Donna Lee

Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.

In this segment Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee provide an answer to a listener question about ongoing concerns with prostatitis, or an inflamed prostate gland.

If you have a urology and health-related question that you would like to hear answered on the air, please email your questions to armormenshealth@gmail.com. Questions are answered anonymously, unless otherwise specified, and the answers will likely benefit many people with the same concerns.

Today's question comes from a 48 year old male listener who has been diagnosed with a prostate infection 3 times in just 12 months. He has undergone a cystoscopy with his current urologist, as well as several courses of antibiotics, and asks, "Am I missing something?".

Dr. Mistry states that some estimates show 1 in 10 men will experience prostatitis at some point in their lives. This can cause back aches, testicle pain, pain in the scrotum, and blood in the urine or semen. For an acute bacterial infection, antibiotics are very effective and can help to resolve this issue within a matter of weeks.

For frequent or chronic prostatitis, Dr. Mistry says that there are additional factors to consider, including: hygiene, use of probiotics, physical activity, and diet. At Urology Specialists, patients have access to a pelvic floor physical  therapist, as well as a nutritionist to help identify food sensitivities through testing.
