Dr. Kerr is a dentist and is board-certified in dental sleep medicine with the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He practices at Sleep Better Austin, where dental care is used to improve patient breathing and, ultimately, sleep.
We spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping! Ok, for many of us this number is a little less (or much less) but the fact remains that we spend a substantial portion of our lives in the sleep state. This means that any condition that affects sleep can have a serious impact on our overall health.
One such condition is obstructive sleep apnea, which is characterized a closing of the airway during sleep. It can be likened to being 'lightly choked' throughout the night. This lack of oxygen can manifest itself in a number of ways, including: night-time peeing, producing too much urine at night, low testosterone, fatigue, high blood pressure, and inability to maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Kerr and Dr. Mistry discuss some of the tools used to correct sleep apnea, as well as how this relates to conditions treated in the world of urology.
