On behalf of her husband, Donna Lee asks whether taking testosterone supplements can worsen already poor or compromised health. Dr. Mistry reassures them both by pointing out that the most settled medical finding on that issue is that having low testosterone puts you at higher risk for death from cardiovascular disease [for reference, "normal" male testosterone is in the 350-1000 range]. He also debunks the myth that increased testosterone production makes a person more angry or violent--this is almost never the case. Normalizing testosterone production actually returns most patients to the personalities they had before their levels dropped. It also makes patients feel much better, both physically and mentally. Importantly, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee emphasize that testosterone therapy is incredibly affordable--patients should never feel the need to obtain supplements from questionable sources in order to control costs. Finally, Donna Lee offers a resounding endorsement of testosterone therapy for women. In her experience, it has improved her hair and skin texture, eliminated her menopausal hot flashes, and booster her mood overall.
