Incontinence and urgency are very common in both men and women, but can be a very uncomfortable and embarrassing. The causes for urinary and fecal incontinence can vary--women who have given birth to multiple children often experience incontinence due to a prolapse of the pelvic floor and the muscles it holds in place, whereas in men, fecal incontinence may indicate a neurological issue. No matter the cause, there are many things you can do to address this problem, including pelvic floor physical therapy, medication, neuromodulation (Dr. Mistry describes this treatment as a "pacemaker for the bladder," but it can also be used for fecal incontinence), and dietary solutions.
