Speaker 1:

Hey everyone, welcome to the dream Hustle podcast, this show that shares authentic and unfiltered advice on how to build and grow a successful dream business online. I'm your host Shana recker. I'm a business and online entrepreneur and I love helping women bust through the fears and find the strategies to make their dream business come to life. My guest and I keep everything super real here for you guys with our stories and tips for success. So let's dig in to today's episode. Hey everyone, welcome to this quick minute with Shana. And today I want to ask you guys a question. I want to know where is your thermostats set to? And if you're listening to this right now, you're like, ah, I don't know, like my house feels kind of warm. Maybe I should turn on the air conditioning. That's not the thermostat that I'm talking about. I want to know where your internal thermostat is set to. And the reason I want to talk about this is because a lot of us go through life sabotaging our own success in life, our own um, dreams and goals based on where our internal thermostat is set to. And I want to talk to you guys about this today. It's very timely because I am in the space of launching and opening the doors to my dream hustle school. And my dream hustle school is the place for beginning stage entrepreneurs to join me, lock arms with me and I walk you through the steps of building and strategizing and creating your new online business that you've been probably thinking about for a really long time. And you've had a lot of fears around getting it started. And one of the fears or one of the results of that fear is that you self sabotage the idea before you can even get it started. And so that's why I want to talk about this because I'm in a space of wanting to really encourage and help and support these ideas in getting started because I know how much they mean to this world. And I know that there are people out there that are waiting for you. And the reason I know that is because I've been there. I was in that same space of being fearful of my idea and not wanting to put myself out there. And when I finally had the courage to do it and got the right support, you guys, I've seen the results of, of pushing through that fear. And I've also seen myself so self sabotage the idea multiple times before I actually got started. And I am so grateful that I didn't let that hold me back because the results I'm seeing in my business today and the people that I'm meeting and helping and supporting through this process has been so fulfilling. And so, um, just so good for, for me and for them. And it's just been such a, it's just a fun ride and I feel like it's just getting started. And I, I know there are people out there who are in the space that I used to be in and they're self sabotaging their ideas because their fear, they have so much fear in their internal, their internal Thermostat, which I'm going to explain here in a second, is set low. And so as soon as they start to dream and dream bigger and see their life different, it actually scares them. And that's where the self sabotage gets started. And so I wanted to talk about this today because I want to help encourage you. I want you to create an awareness around this so that you can see, you know, when this is happening so that you can actually do something about it. And I heard Rachel Hall Hall say this on a podcast. She said, you know, when you know why something is happening, then you know how to fix it. And that's really what I want to do today is to create an awareness the so you can see it, understand why it's happening, and then you can make shifts and changes too, to make sure that you don't let it keep happening. And that you can actually raise the thermostat. So let's talk about thermostat first. So you guys understand where I'm coming from with that. And when I say what is your internal temperature, what is your thermostat set to? I'll give you an example of that. It's my own personal example is that I grew up pretty average. We didn't have a lot of extras. I would say we were probably a little bit below average on the income scale when it came to, you know, lifestyle. And um, we struggled a lot financially and my mom worked really hard to, to make ends meet every single month. And that was just my, my life. That was my comfort zone. We were the family that, you know, in the winter we had the heat turned down so that it wasn't, we weren't spending a lot on the electricity bill and we never had Christmas lights cause they were expensive and all that kind of stuff. Right. And so growing up in that environment really set my internal temperature to a lower number because that is, for me actually a comfort zone. Like my home temperature is actually struggle. And that is where I'm comfortable. Ironically, I know it sounds weird, but that for me is a comfort zone. And so until I created an awareness around this, until I learned about this, I would self sabotage anything that would go when my lifestyle would go above what my comfort zone was. So let's say like for instance, my network marketing business, when I started that I had some really fast success. Um, I grew a six figure income with that business within the first year. Um, you know, I, we bought a new house and we started really doing all these fun, fancy things and I started to self sabotage that business and it was because that was not my comfort zone. My comfort zone was struggling. The way that I self sabotage was I spent every single dime that was coming my way so that we still didn't have any money at the end of the month because for me, that was my comfort zone. That's where my thermostat was set to was set. It was set to struggle. It was set to like 60 degrees, you know, and when my life started getting up to 70 degrees, 80 degrees, I started going, Woo, this is really uncomfortable. I, it's like, it felt good in the moment, but subconsciously I was like, oh, we need a new house. We need new furniture. We need to go on a trip. We need to do this, we need to do that. And so it still created this uncomfortable zone that was actually my comfort zone. And so it wasn't until I started doing some work with, um, my mindset coach Danielle aimos and, um, she started, she was teaching me the teachings of Bob proctor and about your thoughts become things and creating awareness and about self image and all of that. And it was in doing that work that I really did create an awareness around where I, where I had been sitting naturally from just growing up in childhood and all that stuff and really created an awareness around seeing the self sabotage that I was putting in place. You know, and I know a lot of you can relate to this and if you can relate to this, you guys, if you are, if this is touching you in any way, I want you to screenshot this episode and share it in your insta stories and write a point or two about what is impacted you with this episode so that other people can hear this. Because I know there are so many people who are being held back out there because they, there's thermostat is set to a lower temperature and the minute they have these ideas and these thoughts about creating a new life and creating something different, that unknown space, that fear of success that kicks the self sabotage in and then they start going, oh no, I can't do that. Or you know, I talked to Sarah the other day, my friend Sarah and she just thought it was a bad idea. She knew somebody who did that and it didn't work out. So you know, I don't want to take the risk or whatever. The reason is you start to self sabotage and you don't think you can do it. You're not technically savvy enough, you don't know how to do this. You're not on, you know, all the excuses come into play. And so you don't take action because your thermostat is set to a place where you are comfortable being uncomfortable. You're comfortable being in struggle on the struggle bus. That's your bus, that's the one you choose daily. And you know, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to choose the struggle bus. You can actually change that. But it starts by creating this awareness. And that's what I learned through working with my mindset coach was that I had to start to visualize myself and I'm going to give you three things you can do, um, to help to change the self image that you have of yourself. If your self image and your comfort zone is struggle, there are three things that you can do to change that. And the first thing is number one is awareness. Is to listen to something like this podcast episode and start to evaluate that in yourself. You know, look back and see how many times have you given yourself excuses not started something because of the fear of the unknowns or because you know, Sally sue said, you know, maybe you shouldn't do that. That's risky. You know, how many of you like looking back at that, how many times have you done that and can you find that awareness in yourself? Can you see like, you know, evaluate, how did you grow up? What was the talk around money around success in your, in your home. What was it like and how much of that is still with you today? How much of that is affecting your temperature today? And then I want you to have that awareness. And, and when you see awareness is key to everything. When you have awareness around your thoughts, when you have a rant, awareness around your beliefs and you can catch yourself in a space like I can catch myself self sabotaging and I still do it today. Like it's something that you, once you have that awareness, the beautiful thing about the awareness is once you have the awareness around it, you can catch yourself in it and make a new choice. So I can tell like when I'm in launch mode for something, like right now, you know the doors are open for the dream hustle school. You know, I teach this, this content and I'm really excited about, I'm really passionate about it, but I can feel the self sabotage come into play when I'm in launch mode because I know I need to be showing up regularly. I know I need to be talking about it regularly and I can feel a little excuses coming and going, oh you know what? You should go live today, but Oh, you've got this other list of things you're doing. So maybe you should just go live tomorrow and talk about it tomorrow. And I know when that's happening then that's self-sabotage. It's like I need to go live now. Like I need to talk about my programs now. I need to, you know, inspire people to take action now. And I can feel the self sabotage come in. So having that awareness allows you to stop it and make a new choice. And so when that happens, I can go, oh no, no, no, no, you're not doing this, this time self-sabotage. I am going to get my phone and I don't care if my hair isn't perfect and I'm not in the right lighting. I'm going to go live anyways. Because it's important that this message gets out to people. And when you have that awareness, you can start to take different actions. So that's number one. Number two, to help stop the self sabotage. When you feel your temperature rising or you feel like you want to do something different, you want to start that business, you want to do the thing, but it feels scary. Number two is to visualize. So I spent a lot of time visualizing my future self. So this is my future successful Shane of south who's got the business that's doing$1 million in revenue every year. That's, you know, I've got a thousand or more businesses that I've helped create. I like, you know, the success that I've been always thinking about is in place. And what does that version of Shana look like? You know, what is she wearing? What does her hair look like? What kind of car does she drive? How does she show up online? What kind of, you know, things is she doing? Is She speaking on stages? Is She, you know, got the number one podcast out there? Like what is she doing? And I visualize that version of myself, you know, even if it's just looking at me, looking at myself in the mirror and seeing what I look like, how do I feel? You know, what am I do I feel confident? Am I feeling good? Am I feeling like what is going on in that version of myself? And I visualize that, that piece of myself and it's, you know, it may be kind of hard to do the first few times. The more you keep doing it, the easier it gets. And so visualize yourself, your future self as already successful with the things in the the the business in place and the things in place and all this stuff in place that you want in your, when you think of your goals, everything's happened. What does life look like? What does a typical day look like for you? Visualize yourself in that space. Visualization is so powerful because what we think about our thoughts become realities and the more you start seeing yourself in that space, the more you start to become the person that's in that space. Your subconscious kind of goes, oh this is what we are. Okay, well then I'm going to show you different things and I'm going to have you feel different ways about things because this is who we are and it starts to, you start to make different choices. You start to have different thoughts. So visualization is absolutely number two and number three, kind of the same as visualization, but it has a different effect and that's journaling. So that's journaling about your future self, journaling about your perfect day in the future, journaling about your goals and the differences is having pen to paper and journaling. It really makes you think about what that looks like. It slows the whole visualization process down because you need to be visualizing and thinking about something for a certain amount of time before it sets into your subconscious. So when you're journaling about your goals, your journaling about your business and what it looks like when you're in it, you're putting pen to paper and that has such a bigger impact on the actual results of visualizing and stuff then than to just to, to just visualize. I do both. I have a combination of both that I do and they're so, so important. So first you want to create the awareness that you are actually doing this, that you are actually, you know, having these ideas and thoughts about doing something different in your life. But then you're having awareness around the self sabotaging excuses and reasons why you can't. And then once you see that you're doing that, now it's time to make different choices. It's starting to, it's time to change the temperature. It's time to move the temperature up. And you do that through visualizing yourself in the space of already being successful. Now you visualize yourself with the money, with the home, with the things, whatever it is, with the time. Maybe you want to give back. What does that look like? Are you traveling to third world countries and building homes and doing things? But is that what you do? Whatever it is, visualize yourself already there doing it. That's going to help raise your temperature so that when you start to take action, when you have the courage to do the things you're going to, um, you're going to have less excuses. You're going to actually probably take action more because you're seeing yourself in that space of, of already being successful. And it raises your temperature and it raises your comfort zone up to a new space. And here's the other thing is that as you start to grow, and this is what I've found personally just in my own business as I've started to grow in my business and started to make more, because you know I will say in my self sabotage space that I was really in badly. I mean we went down a rabbit hole of finding financial in the financial space that was not fun, that sold our house, had to do all of these things and you guys hitting that sort of, I'm going to air quote at rock bottom. For us it really has, I created a hyper awareness around money and not, not in a bad way but in, in in a smart way. It was like I recognize now what I was doing, I don't want to do that again. Right? So now I have a new level of awareness around it that, that my temperature is different when it comes to, you know, having money like I like to have money in the bank. So now my temperature, what used to be at 60 which was no money in the bank, struggling every month, I'm now at 70 and I like to leave a bit of money sitting in there as a safety net for whatever may come our way. And that's actually a new comfort zone for me. I don't feel like I need to spend that. I like to have that sitting in there. It's, it's nice. It feels good to have that sitting in there. Now there's like a little like a little nest egg in there and that's a s that's it. Now a new comfort zone for me where before it was like if there was anything in there I would spend it. It would be like, oh we need to do this or we need to go that or you know, whatever, oh this is on sale, I should buy it or whatever the case may be. So as you level up and as you create the awareness and make the changes, you're going to start to change that temperature because your new normal is going to start to change. Your comfort zone is going to start to change. So I'm not on the struggle bus anymore. I'm on the like make shit happen bus. And I like it. And I want, you know, I want to have the income, I want to have the success, I want to be inspirational. I want to help and serve people. I want, my goal is to have a thousand new businesses started because of my coaching programs. Am I working with, with me personally? I want to help inspire people to take that action, to have that courage. And so I want you to have that. I want you to have the same thing, but you've got to create an awareness around your internal temperature, around the places where you're self sabotaging, so that you can make a different choice. That you can actually start to raise the temperature so that you can have a better life so that you can do more things that you can inspire and more people and, and, and be that person that you know inside that you can be. And so I hope that this was helpful for you guys today because this is something that I'm really, it's close to my heart because I do this myself and I think a lot of us do. I think a lot of us do. And I think we, um, the reason some people are really successful in life is just because they have that awareness around their self sabotage and they're not gonna let it stop them. They have the courage and you know, courage is really, it's having the fear and having the fears and the uncomfortableness around, you know, being in a new place but doing it anyways. Right. And so, um, and it's funny, we talked a lot about courage and the masterclass. I did a free masterclass last week, um, based on, I don't, I'm not sure when you're hearing this, but it was the week of September 10th, 11th and 12th. And in that masterclass of third-class we talked all about courage and what that looks like. I think I even did a podcast episode one 29. I think it is around courage. If you miss the masterclass, you want it and you can go to Shannon, wrecker.com. You can get the um, the link to recap, to catch up on the masterclass classes if you want to check into that.
