A nickname can tell your whole history if you let it. We open by explaining why Rick is “RK67” and how a high school football number somehow becomes a lifelong tag, then we spiral into the real comedy of adulthood: the day a company rep asks for your email address and you have to say that teenage “unique” handle out loud, letter by letter, with your dignity on the line.
From there we catch up on what’s around us right now, from thick LA smoke to the practical annoyances of Juneteenth bank closures that delay deposits and payments. The sports talk heats up fast with World Cup mania, USA and Mexico momentum, rule changes that can cut down on flopping, and the dream scenario everybody wants: a USA vs England matchup landing on July 4. We also debate whether the Olympics in Los Angeles will feel as electric as the World Cup, or if the price and scale make it harder to connect with.
Then we go full backyard mode with the Traeger pellet grill deep dive: why “set it and forget it” actually matters, what you still need to watch (ash cleanup, pellet hopper levels, preheat time), and how we time four-hour ribs with a dry rub so the smoke and meat lead the flavor instead of sauce. We even get into pellet wood choices for carne asada, ribs, and poultry, plus where we’re buying meat, freezer and vacuum-seal tips, and a quick reality check on Vegas resort fees and why comps feel different now. If you like real-life talk, sports energy, and practical cooking advice you can use this weekend, you’ll be right at home. RK67 And The High School Number
MigWelcome back to the Drifting on Arroyo Podcast. This is Mig. This is Lano. RK67. I was asked the other day on our introductions. You know, I was like, I say this is Mgg. Lano says this is Lano. And Rick always says RK67. And I was asked why. The RK67. You didn't tell him? I explained it to them.
LanoOh but it's before before the email address, right? This is high school football. High school.
MigYeah. So but I mean, just in case there's any other listeners out there, the other two listeners that we have, if they were wondering Well, they thought the 67 was the RK67. No, no, no. They just they just wondered. Well, because RK is Rick. Uh RK, and then 67 is my football number. Right. So in high school, um, on my backpack, I would have put RK67. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. And I still have, yeah, I still have um I better have it, and it's better than I'd throw it away. I still have my high school backpack. And it has all like my uh jam sport?
LanoWhat is it what brand is that? Is it jam sport?
MigUh no. Is it jam sport? No, I don't think it's a jam sport. It is jam sport, yeah. That's only back then. Back then, that's only name except. So it has all the writing, all the of of all the the hogs, right? You know, yeah, all the linemen and everything. All the copyright on your stuff. So yeah, um on my backpack, you know, I wrote K66. Well, I guess it's always been a good I guess I I guess I I was kind of close because I thought it was because of your emails. And and I'm like, yeah, that's how he took up that when he grew up a little bit. No his original email was the filthy raider. Yeah, then it became Filthy Raider. Yeah, it was Filthy Animal 67, yeah, and then it was Filthy Raider 67. The funniest thing ever was hearing this guy on the phone with uh, I think it was a credit card company. I think it went for a job or it wasn't the only company. No, it wasn't the credit card company. They're like, There goes that thing. Yeah, dude. It's like they're asking him all this personal info. He's he's like, yeah, uh, 3267 or what's the common is you know, like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You know, this is that date of birth, blah, blah, blah. Oh, what's your email address? And just the look on this dude's face and the side, and just like everything left his body. He was like, he's like fill the animal 60. He's like, I'm sorry, sir, can you spell that the animal or the radio?
LanoOh, no, the animal. Yeah, dude. Oh, dude. That's when I realized that was like some long name, right? SBC Global or something. Like SBC Global. Yeah, something I don't know, man.
MigBut that shit was so funny, dude, because how embarrassed he was and everything. I'm like, dude. And that's why I thought he was. And you know what? It's um, I think it's even happened uh at Vegas, too. Oh yeah? Applying for the players card. Oh. I was like filthy.
LanoSo that's your only you do you have a clean one or no? Yeah, it's RK Play. Oh, that is the clean one.
MigYeah, no, RK Pena.
LanoOh, RK Penya.
Speaker67. Yeah.
MigYeah, but that oh man, I'll never forget the look on his face too when they asked him his email. That shit was so funny, dude.
LanoThat's crazy because as a like when you're when as a kid or you're making it, you want this like unique name, or like, oh, or you don't want some number, like you know, you you got like 17 or 18.
MigI don't know if people fill them up. Yeah, I don't think anyone has ever like and when I've told them the email, no one has ever like brought it back to home alone. Like, yeah, I don't know why no one has ever made the connection animal. Yeah, yeah. So it's just like that's why
The Brutal Truth About Old Emails
MigI got it. Yeah. I mean, because that it wasn't because you're just a filthy animal. That's what everybody thought. You know, everybody thought because he was this yeah, dirty ass fool we were hold down dirty.
LanoUm let's let's do the phone number. We've been off the air for about a month, summer break. Is there phone calls? No, we don't got no phone calls, but we shouldn't. Oh, you just want to give out the phone number? Want to give it a crack?
MigI can't remember the guy asked you. Um it's uh 323 323-702. Nope. Other way around. 207 207 uh 0012. There you go. 0012. Yeah. All right, 323 207 0012. Give it an applause. Oh man, what the hell? How can I how can I remember that? Like 207. 207 0012. Like how you know how you associate numbers? Yeah, I do it all the time. I go with everything.
SpeakerYeah, I usually do football players, but what I do auto and Gannon. Mickey does baseball.
MigI do a mix of everything. 207. What 207? 207 to me, because I know the Vegas area code is 702. So I flip it. That's a D2. Which is Vegas Raiders and then it's just 0012. Um I don't know what it associates 207 with. I mean, that that's why I always think it's a 213 number. I don't know why. Nah, 323. That's what I'm telling you. Like, I don't I don't keep it to just sports, you know what I was doing. Like my old beeper number?
unknownYeah.
SpeakerOh shit, I don't remember.
MigYeah, well my old beeper, I remember my old beeper number because of that association. So it was always it was two one three, and then I just remember a circle. You see, mine was two and three, three sixty, eighty-eight, fifty-four. So the only number I remember in that one that was out of out of like something I don't relate it to is fifty-four. You know, the two and three, two and three is given. But the three six, I just remember a circle. The eighty-eight was the last Dodger championship. At that time, at
Voicemail Number And Memory Hacks
Migthat time. And then just remember the 54. 54. That could have been uh uh Bugus? Was he 54? Too too much to if it doesn't pop in my head instantly, then forget it. It has to be something that's like instant in my head.
LanoThere's some people people famous people I just can't remember.
MigThat's why that's why I was always like circle dodger championship 54. I'm weird like that.
LA Smoke Juneteenth And Weekend Catchup
LanoWe're recording right now in the depth of the black smoke that's that's been um circle in Boyle Heights or LA. Boyle Heights.
MigHey, coming in on Sunday, man, it was bad. It's ugly, man. Where were we coming from? From my house. Oh, yeah. So driving in is like you just see just yeah.
LanoWe went to um for the Juneteenth weekend, we went to um Oh, we I had the Thursday and the Friday off. We had um That pissed me off because you know what?
MigI went to go deposit some checks. It was closed, the bank was closed, and the damn bank was closed. Yeah, and then I was like, I I was checking um like on Sunday, I was like, hey, how come this damn payment didn't go through? Yeah. And it was like, oh, stupid Juneteenth. Well, you know, you still on the phone? You know what pissed me off about that? My freaking direct deposit didn't go through. I go out and look at my account. Oh, so that's why dude. Oh, I got my money on uh Thursday. They'll push it early on Thursday. I got money on Monday.
LanoThey'll push it earlier.
MigOh you see, well, I didn't think about that. I didn't think about that stupid 19th shit. That's a fairly new holiday. You know, because I'm the one that does the payroll, so if I would have known that, then I would have done it a day earlier.
LanoYeah.
SpeakerYeah, I got it.
LanoUm, we went to Palm Desert and then we came back Saturday, and coming back Saturday, like we thought we left Wednesday when the fire happened, and then we came back, we thought it'd be done, and then it was all like Elliot. This looked awful with the smoke coming back. Yeah. This looked bad. And then you we can even smell it when we got out of the car. So But we had Father's Day, Juneteenth. Father's Day that passed, right? Celebrate all the fathers out there. We did it on Saturday. Everybody was freed. Yeah. On Juneteenth. Everyone freed, got freed on on Friday.
MigThen they were able to celebrate Father's Day on Sunday just in time.
LanoAnd and then um what else are we that Knicks won the championship?
MigOh yeah. Oh yeah. That was a pretty epic, epic series, man. That was crazy. Um that that damn game four? Was it game four that mean comeback? Uh I think so. It was like they're down 20 something points. Well, it was like on a Wednesday or a Thursday or something like that, huh? Yeah. Was it the one where uh Trump went to? No, no, he didn't go to that one. He went to the one that they lost. Oh, yeah, yeah. Stephen A was like, don't go. We don't want to like because he I mean, you know, Trump's a New Yorkers. Oh, that's right. Yeah, he's that's his. Yeah, that's that's his that's his team. But um what Stephen A was saying is like, don't go because you're gonna you're gonna make it a chaos. Like already New York sucks. Then you're gonna go, and then special services, all the road closures, it's gonna take people more time to get into the stadium or the arena is like you're gonna just make more chaos, and it's like just better not to go.
LanoWell, they got that the subway system. Oh, did you see the the UFC fights at the White House? It said Paramount, but I when I I couldn't like nothing popped up when I would like click the streaming app. I mean I only have Paramount streaming, I don't have like the channel.
MigYeah, it's not Paramount.
LanoBut when I would click it, like I couldn't find it. Like I was like, where's this fight at? Like I couldn't nothing popped up.
MigIt should have popped up.
LanoIt should have. Yeah, and it had all the parts of the stuff. Did you check it on Saturday? No. I was just was that well, I checked it the day it came out because I was trying to watch it, but I couldn't find it. Well, you did you watch it on Saturday on Saturday? No, no. I I didn't see it at all.
MigNo, no, but did you try watching it on Saturday? Like when it came out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that was the day I was trying to watch it live. On Saturday? Yeah. Okay, that's why you missed it, because it was Sunday. Oh, was it? No. It was on Sunday. Oh, that's right. Yeah, it was on Sunday. That's why you didn't see it. Yeah. They had it on Sunday.
LanoUh, maybe that was right. Because I remember I was out there trying to watch it. No, it was on Sunday.
MigYeah. But nothing probably. That's because we had a working exam. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah. That's why you missed it. That probably is why we're yeah, because we were at Christie's house on the South Carolina watching it. And then uh we left before the last fight because it was already late. You know, and then we got home. The best fight. And then Christy blew us up on the phone, like you guys missed it, and blah blah blah. I mean, it was already a lot of good fights. Yeah, but this fight was epic, dude. Dude, you should go back and watch it. Yeah.
LanoI think maybe I was the wrong day.
MigYeah, so you know, I was at home, and once I saw that, you know, that she texted us that I right away I jumped on the app to see if they were still showing any coverage of it. And yeah, it was on, and I was able to rewind it. Jamaro wind the house to be able to watch the first uh fight. And then I told Rick, I told him, hey, dude, jump on there and see if you can see it. Yeah. And yeah, he did too. Yeah, it was good. It was good that they had that whole playback. Yeah. So I was able to rewind it on the road. Yeah, that fight was epic, dude. Man, epic.
SpeakerI I can't believe Gagey survived that third round. After that liver shot. Yeah, you gotta go back and watch it.
LanoNo, yeah. No, I think I was I was wrong.
MigUm Well, what I mean, the other big news.
World Cup Hype And Must Watch Matchups
MigWhat's going on right now? The middle of the World Cup.
LanoWe're in World Cup Mania right now.
MigOh yeah, we're in the middle of the World Cup.
LanoWorld Cup Mania. USA's.
MigSo far, so far USA's 2-0, Mexico's 2-0.
LanoMexico, I think, plays tomorrow, right? And the USA plays.
MigI heard I heard tomorrow Wednesday.
LanoWe're recording on Tuesday night.
MigThat they said that the way the brackets are looking, it's totally possible that the US can meet up with England. Oh, England. I thought you said Mexico. On the 4th of July. Ooh, don't trade on me.
LanoUh-huh. Dang. And would that be so fire? You know, we don't know.
MigThat would be the American Revolution part two. Where would that be at? Uh I don't know. That would be crazy. Oh. But they said that it is possible. That the way they are on the brackets, that it is possible that they aligned. That might be like the most watched. Dude, they said if that happens, you can't script it better than that. Yeah. It'll be the most watched. Yeah. Oh. It's like World Cup US versus England on US's 250th birthday of their independence. Soil from them.
unknownWow.
MigImagine that.
LanoDude, I'm gonna I'm gonna get if it that I'm gonna gear.
MigRatings would freaking explode, dude. Well, that's exciting. I'm getting goosebumps. I'm getting excited.
SpeakerI think they're gonna make it happen, dude. Yeah, I think that it's gonna fix some games.
LanoSo we were in Palm Desert in the pool like during that week when USA played, and everybody had like USA like floaties or USA. It was nice. My wife's like, I like seeing this like red, white, and blue everywhere. Like people had USA shorts, like you know, the flag and stuff. I'm gonna get some, but I want to I want original like Apollo Creek. I'm tired, yeah.
MigI mean, USA team's looking like a Euro team, man. Those dudes are big. I haven't seen them play yet, man. They're playing fast every time they're playing fast work. The way they pass, the way they attack. Oh man, they look so good. It's like it's like Mexico. Um, I didn't see the first game with Mexico. Um, but that South Korea game, like they I mean, I'm gonna say they kind of got lucky, man. Yeah, it was like a long goal, right? Because Korea, yeah, that one, but then then Korea just blew a lot of damn opportunities.
LanoYeah, and Korea, um, they have that the player from LEFC, that's Sonny, he he's like their captain.
MigI I like the way the US team is built, man.
LanoAnd and so five is looking nice too, with the red, red, and blue. It's looking like pretty good on TV, like a nice stadium.
MigUm on Sunday, Father's Day, uh the damn good game was um uh Argentina or who no no it was Uruguay and Uruguayan um I uh Coastal Green Green Coastal Coastal Green Ivory Coast, Ivory Green? Yeah, something like that. Man, that game was amazing. That thing was good. Was that the upset or ivory coast one or something? I think they was tied to two.
LanoYeah, I think I heard that that one some goalie was making some good saves or something or ivory coast.
SpeakerNo, yeah, that there was that was it, that was that was a good game. So the game's getting getting more more intense, it's getting good. So uh exciting.
MigThursday is it's cool. It's it's cool, it's cool that um so many people are are uh are paying attention more. More soccer fans. Yeah. There's there's more, you know, more people into it. And I heard that like before FIFA uh, before the cup started, there's a lot of rules changes, which was gonna eliminate a lot of the damn like that bullshit flops and wasting time. Oh, really? I know they had like those. That's what I noticed is like all these guys that are getting fucked up, they're like, it's legit, man. Like they're getting like kicked mean and tricked up mean and see some dude broke his leg ugly. I don't know if you saw it. So it's not like it's not like phantom damn.
LanoNo, these guys are doing it, it it's pretty good. There was like some tackle and some guys like leg snapped. It was like, ugh, ugly.
MigAnd then um, I wanted to go back and watch I met I didn't watch it, but I wanted to go back and watch um um Messi's three three. Oh, where he broke the record or something that that didn't. He almost said he almost did it again. Yeah, he had a brace, which was two goals. Yeah, two goals, huh? He had a free kick. He missed. Yeah, I saw that. Otherwise, there would have been another game with three goals. This is the one with the most goals in the World Cup. Yeah, he has the record. Like, and this guy was talking about retiring the last World Cup. Wow, this one's got a lot of things.
LanoLike, is this good? Maybe you play in two World Cups because that's like eight years, like because it and then like but he's been in like I think this is fourth.
MigUnless you're playing your first World Cup at damn 17.
LanoAnd that's like I think he played in his I don't know what the age requirement is.
MigI think he was like a like 18.
LanoYeah. But yeah, not it, because not it. I mean, some people make the the national team like once because like they pick their best.
MigA lot of people are pulling for for Portugal, no? Portugal because of Ronaldo, they want him to get one.
LanoYeah, but I don't know. I don't know, because I don't know, because they they make it seem like some videos like the team doesn't like him because he's like a scorer or like but then um they they I think they tied the first game, so they were like everybody was like upset at him or or mad. Then he scored like I think he did two the next game or something like that. Now none of us are going to any games, right? I don't know. No, but you still feel like we're like we're part of it or we're in the middle of it.
MigI don't have good enough credit to pull a loan to uh get a ticket to go to the game.
LanoAnd and then um anybody I want to go to a watch party, but I just feel like it's too crazy with the my the little girls.
MigYeah.
LanoWell, that first game at USA at SoFi, like there was like a watch party in the Coliseum, like in the field. Oh, okay. And it looked like they they set up like some screens and everybody's just like on the case.
MigYeah, because even the Mexico-Korea game had like a watch party like in Korea town.
LanoYeah. Yeah. But um, no, we have um at work like an emergency center like with a room with all these TVs, and they should they put the games on in there and everybody was like going crazy. I'm just just too old for that crap.
SpeakerYeah. I don't want to be part of all that mess.
LanoBut I'm I'm liking that um comfort of someone's home. I mean besides the black smoke, smoke, but like we're I'm feeling like the vibe, like the World Cup. So I'm feeling I'm thinking like the Olympics when they come to town, it's gonna be kind of the same thing. Like, we're gonna feel it. I don't think the the Olympics is gonna be as exciting as the Olympics.
MigYou don't think so? The World Cup, dude. I don't know. Nah, no. Because the World Cup just has that appeal, dude. No one's been paying attention to Olympics for so for so many years now. You think so? Olympics is gonna be like whatever it is.
LanoBecause the Olympics, everybody's gonna be in LA. Like all the nations. We're here just a few countries because it's all spread across the West.
MigI think Olympics is gonna be something of elites and snobs. Yeah, well with the ticket prices, that's what you look at. You know, and football, dude, it's like it's everyone. Yeah. It is everyone because Dude, it's really it's really the world's sport. It's the world's sport, dude. Soccer is the world's sport. Because no matter if you grew up rich or you grew up dirt poor, dude, you played it. Yeah. You know, there's no other sport that's bigger than than world the whole world. That's worldwide. Then it's known worldwide. Yeah. So yeah. Earth's main sport is soccer. And I know they want to get all excited for the Olympics and everything, but I don't I don't think it's gonna I think Olympics just has too many events. Yeah, too many bullshit events.
LanoIt's like uh and those are the ones that like I think um the only way accessible for us, like the the the ping pong or whatever, or even that might be big. I don't know.
MigNah, not ping pong.
LanoPing pong might be big.
MigUh what's that damn shit they push? What's that? Uh they push on the ice or the oh um that's the winner. Curling curling. Oh, curling. Curling curling. They don't have one in the summer? No, no, no, no, no. It's on ice! No, no, but like on kind of like on uh a wood floor, like like it's called shuffleboard. Is that what it is? Old people do it on ships and crazy. Oh, don't they have that shit? No, not on the Olympics. Not in the Olympics.
SpeakerUh I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Shuffleboard,
Traeger Purchase Sparks The Smoker Debate
Speakeryeah.
MigAlright, I got uh I got some controversy. Oh, oh, right. Mark the shark. Listen up.
SpeakerOh shit.
MigHey, tell Mark to call him too. Open up your ears. No, he's gonna call after this. I guarantee you. I guarantee you he's gonna call after this. Your homeboy, Meg, himself took it upon himself to go out and purchase a Traeger grill. Oh, you did? I I've been wanting to get one. No no sound effects, nothing nothing ready. He got excited.
LanoI've been looking at it. I've been wanting to pull the trip. I've been trying to pull the trip.
MigI haven't seen him get that excited on the show in since he showed me the picture, but I didn't know what he cooked it on.
LanoUh-huh.
MigSo he tried that crappy Pepsi and milk.
LanoPilk. Pilk. Pilk.
MigSo Mark. Oh man. Yeah, man. I'm I'm team lazy smoker now, dude. That's what it is, too. Team Lazy Smoker. Man, it dude, it was so nice.
LanoAll right. So you did it the old-fashioned way, and now you're doing it the new way. Like, what's the difference?
MigWhat's the it's night and day.
LanoBecause I don't know the old way or whatever. I'm just going in the new way.
MigOkay, the old way, you had to literally be sitting there regulating your temperature, putting wood in, taking wood out, and if there wasn't enough smoke, you gotta make sure you put more wet chips in there to get smoke. You know, and constantly be monitoring your temperatures to make sure you had a steady temperature, that it didn't go too low, that it didn't go too high. It's a pain in the ass. A lot of work. They have already their system. Well, they know because the thing is just that you wouldn't do it enough. No, a lot of them, I'm telling you, every everybody talks crap about everybody. Because there's the traditionalist, the true traditionalists that just do wood and that's it.
SpeakerYeah.
MigIt's like they have their firebox, they start up their wood and get the wood going, and that's it. They just feed the flames with more wood and that's it. There's other smokers that use uh propane burners. Uh-huh. And they just put their wood on top of the trays so they get the the wood to start smoking. But the wood burn or the burner itself, the propane burner is what creates the heat. The propane gas will affect the taste. Yeah. Well, not so much, but that's what keeps it constant heat. Yeah. So that's kind of like a little small cheat, but not all the way. But this these pellet grills, dude. You talk about simple and and literally, man, they're they're tagline. Said it and forget it. You literally just set it and forget it. The difference, the difference, Lano, was Miggy used uh 10 towels for sweat instead of 20. No, the difference is I didn't need any towels. He still he still smoked without a shirt looking like a like a loose bear in the backyard. But dude, those ribs, man.
LanoAnd yours is not even, oh, I'm assuming it's not even like a smart one, just a regular basic trade.
MigRegular, yes, uh the Pro Series 22. You have them up right now, the the one all the way on the left.
LanoThis is the Bronx.
MigThis is what you got? Pro 22? Pro 22. Benio got the 34? Many got the 34.
LanoRight now they're having a uh uh I don't know if it's a Father's Day or First. That's right. You know what? That's good for Bano.
SpeakerThat's good for Manio because it's too much work to do with it. Like for him, I mean he doesn't have time to be messing with it's a decent price for grills, too.
MigI'm telling you, and and it's awesome, dude, because all you really have to worry about is just keep an eye on the the hopper and make sure the pallets don't run out. Because if your pallets run out, the fire is gonna turn off and you're gonna have to do like go through a whole reset process. Oh. And that takes about 40 minutes. So you just keep adding or what? You just keep an eye on it, and yeah, just keep adding.
SpeakerThat's the only thing you gotta keep track of.
MigYeah. But um how much was it? I got a package deal. The grill itself. The Classical or Stamps Club? No, I know Home Depot. Uh the grill itself, normally priced was like $550 or $570, something like that.
LanoRight there, he says three something.
MigWell, it's on sale.
Lano$549 or regular price.
MigSo it's on sale for $3.99. But I got a package deal that came with the cover. It came with a 30-pound bag of pallets. It came with a package of um the trays for the drip, the drip trays. So that way it makes cleanup easier. And um, your bucket that catches the grease, it came with uh like a little pack of little aluminum buckets that are like liners. Uh-huh. So that way all the grease goes in there and everything's like easy cleanup.
LanoCan you save that like grease? Like lard? Or no?
SpeakerNah, I wouldn't. How much was it?
MigTotal, everything was like about $570. Oh. With all that. Oh I thought the five I thought you paid that full price. No, no, no. No, no, but you got a that's what I'm saying. The full price. That's why you bought you got it, because it was on sale. Yeah. Oh, okay. But that's what I'm saying. It's like if regular price is $5.50. Are you kidding me?
LanoCan you do deep dip sandwiches like that? Well, I'm gonna print this out and send it to you.
MigSo so last night I get home from work, and aside from the ribs, I had also bought a little pack of uh tri-tip steaks. So they were like strips of tri-tip. And I wanted to make them. But I kind of messed up because it didn't the grill wouldn't light up, but that's my fault. Because the little the little tube or the fire tube where it's at, where it burns the pallets. It says smoke turkey. You can smoke a turkey. Well, I'm gonna smoke a turkey this year, dude. Um, the little fire tube, I guess it must be all full of ash because it wouldn't light up again. And they that's what they say. That's what I when I was watching reviews and watching videos and everything, they say that that's one of the things you have to do is you gotta clean out all the ash from there because otherwise you're gonna have a hard time lighting stuff or you're gonna taste like the ash. Oh.
SpeakerThat's something you have to do.
MigSo only only downfalls I see, which is really pretty much the same for like any grill, uh-huh, is you gotta time when you're gonna start cooking. Like if you're gonna start cooking at one, you better start getting that thing warmed up at twelve.
SpeakerOh, okay.
MigYou know, because depending on what you're gonna make.
SpeakerYeah, yeah.
MigSo the one thing I I wanted to make sure is that it wouldn't make a nacela. Because that's what we had on Father's Day. Yeah. And the grill goes up to 450 degrees, and it did a beautiful job.
LanoLike you smoked the carnizada?
MigWell, essentially, it does smoke it because there is still smoke coming out, but it leaves it like if you grilled it. But the beauty is there's no flames that come up and kick up, so it doesn't burn it.
SpeakerDoesn't, yeah. That's why you can like walk away from it.
MigYeah, you can walk away from it. You know, and the chicken came out beautiful, the asada came out beautiful, and the ribs came out phenomenal. So you can cook anything on there, right? There's no flame? Anything. I've even seen attachments right now that um right now that Prime is having their um Prime Day sale started.
SpeakerTheir prime days, yeah.
MigYou go on there and you put Traeger accessories, yeah, and they sell a little attachment that goes like right over that fire tube.
SpeakerYeah.
MigWhere it's like a little domed uh thing where you could do pizzas. Oh, like a pizza oven type of thing. So you can have like a wood-fired pizza. Yeah, it's amazing. Get one, but get the 22 because if you do anything bigger than that, it's gonna be way too big.
LanoBecause you're just like wasting the lit through.
MigDude, how much are you gonna cook on it?
LanoOh, yeah, yeah, nothing.
MigThe 22 is plenty big enough for just you and your wife and your daughters.
SpeakerUm, I'm looking at um we should I mean, why wait till Thanksgiving? We should already. Oh, just smoke a turkey? Yeah, smoke a turkey and already just perfected.
LanoYeah, I could. We just have to buy the turkey? We just have to get it. We just always do it because we get the free turkeys every Thanksgiving, but yeah, we just have to buy a turkey. Are you gonna buy one, Lanu? Um like next week? A turkey?
SpeakerNo.
LanoOh, Trager? Oh, I don't know. I'm looking at it. I don't know. I don't know.
MigSo next thing I was thinking of doing was maybe just getting like some chicken legs or some quarters. Make it the same way.
LanoTraeger's like the the top brand for smokers. It's like the top of the line. Oh, you're asking me to get one so I can cook it before the podcast?
SpeakerYeah.
LanoMaybe we'll see.
MigWell, I know. If we could yeah, I mean we could cook it during podcasts. Like you just you have it out there, you start heating it up, and when we start the podcast, you know, start cooking it.
SpeakerI mean, how long does it take like we do chicken eggs?
LanoOh, true. True.
MigSo I mean maybe it depends. If you want to go low and slow, or if you just want to go like if you're grilling them. You know, if you're gonna go hot and fast. How about all right, the ribs? How long did the ribs take? The ribs took four hours. Oh shit. Yeah. So you're you're just the ribs took a while.
LanoLike, you go and check in in four hours, or you check in in every hour, like, because everything's like it's doing something
Four Hour Ribs Plan And Timing
Lanofor you, right?
MigSo let me let me break it down how I did it. So I got my ribs, you know, I pulled them out of the fridge in on in the morning, because we were gonna get together at we had set at three, right? Yeah. We had set at three. So I figured four hours cook time, so I was gonna start them at 10 30. Uh-huh. Because I wanted to have them ready by 2 30. So when people are arriving and the sala and the chicken's not ready yet, if the ribs came out good, they can snack on that, meanwhile. So I didn't tell anybody I was gonna make them, so if they were no good, then I wasn't gonna say shit. You know, so I put them on, so I started heating up the grill at 10. And I got it, I got it ready up to temperature, so I put the ribs in at 1030, but at 250 degrees. And then I just left them there for three hours. I just went and just peeked in on them maybe twice.
LanoSo you set it up and then you like you're watching TV and then come back later. Yeah. There's no app on the phone, nothing, right?
MigSo then I just kept going out there making sure the temperature was still staying around 250. And it was like hovering around 26, 260, 250, 260, 250. It's just fine. Uh-huh. And um the last hour since uh I went and I opened it and I looked at it, and it still didn't have like that color that I wanted. Last hour I cranked it up to 350. And I did the last hour at 350. So 230, pulled them off, cut them up. You know, and I knew my dad was gonna be hungry by then. So me and him just sat there and what did he think of it? He liked it? Oh, dude, he loved them. Yeah, cracked a couple brews, man, and just had some ribs, waited for everybody to get there.
LanoThis Father's Day weekend or when's this? Yeah, it was Father's Day.
MigYeah, Saturday. Nice. And um Yeah, it was good, man. Yeah, oh, you had them? You teased them? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, those ribs were amazing, dude. No, um because the thing is, yeah, they were the appetizers. The thing is, I had been wanting to make ribs that that style because you know Ramirez Market on Soto, right? Okay, well, before there were a liquor store, there were actually a market. Oh, really? I didn't know that. Yeah, they were a market. That was like the biggest liquor store in Land. They would sell, they would sell food, like food plates. You know, you'd go in there and they would have either like it was like kind of like Chinese food style, where you just go, you ask them for rice, beans, and you know, it's like say, you know, they got chile verde or they got chile colorado, or I don't think I ever went to, you know, you can get a chile de lleno or whatever, whatever they have. Well, they would make these ribs that were just like a dry rib, you know, dry rubbed ribs, you know, nothing fancy, just like that. No sauces or nothing, just a nice rib with seasoning on them, and that's it. And they were so good, dude. And I have been wanting ribs for a long time. And everywhere you go, you you ask for ribs, they sauce the shit out of them. Right. Oh yeah. And I don't want them with sauce, you know? It's like I want to taste the rub and I want to taste the smoke and the meat. That's it. I don't want no sauce to get in the middle or mess it up or anything, because then all you taste is sauce. And if I want that, then I can get any crappy rib and just douse it in sauce, and that's it. Yeah, you know? So I made these, dude, and these were just you know, I rubbed them in mustard, prepared them in mustard, dropped my seasoning on them, my my blend. Your blend that you have. Yeah, I left it for like maybe an hour or two, and then just threw them in the smoker. You gotta have a rub that has like some kind of um Cajun spice to it. Like a spicy one. Make a spicy rub. Spicier.
LanoSo yours had no sauce? No. They look a little red, like, but that's just the rub?
MigThat's the way they they they come out.
LanoNo, I I missed it when you said it. What what type of fuel do you use on your grill? This one? It was the Traeger with the Traeger brand palettes that came with it. Oh no, but like um, you said is it propane or fire or what is it?
MigOh, dude, that was the other no, that was electric. You talk about the other people the the other styles, the other styles. Like when guys are are you're smoking, they'll use like a propane grill, like burners to burn the wood to smoke. You remember when we had the whole argument about real smoking and this or whatever? That that's kind of a way of cheating, is using propane.
LanoSo I'm just saying, so yours there's a plug? Yeah, just plug it in. Okay, so because I I have an outdoor plug. No, no, I'm just trying to say because I need a plug. I do have an outdoor plug, but I just want to make sure like what I'm gonna need.
MigAnd if you want to pay the money, dude, yes, they do have ones with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and all that bullshit. It'll talk back to you and say you're gonna be able to do it. But they're just reminders of like when to check it or whatever, right? It'll be like, oh Lano, put your meat in me. Oh, dude.
LanoI remember I did see a smart one. I did see um like it was like a different brand, but I don't remember what it was.
MigUh I think uh Pro Grill or something like that, or maybe, maybe. Yeah, because if you if you YouTube like just palette grills, all kinds of different brands will come up.
LanoUm so now uh different dudes are different pallets, right? Like, so what's your palette that you use? Like what type of wood or whatever?
MigWell, right now the one I use, the one that came with the with the package deal, it's a blend. So it had everything in there. It had it had apple, it had cherry, hickory, mesquite, and everything.
LanoYeah, woods or whatever.
MigSo if you're gonna if you're gonna be doing just like if you're gonna want it for a candle sala, use the mesquite.
SpeakerOkay. Mesquit, skeet, skeet, skeet, skeet.
MigYou know, if you're gonna if you're gonna be smoking like the ribs or stuff like that, use hickory. Or maybe like hickory mesquite blend. You know, it's like if you're gonna do like any poultries and stuff, you're gonna want to use more of the fruit trees, like apple, cherry, apple, pecan. Ham. The book comes with like a a list of what flavors.
LanoAnd Manuel came down. Has he made anything on his yet or not yet?
MigNo, he just made burgers. Real smoke. Because he was he was surprised when when he left his house, they surprised him and showed him that that the girl was there. So he was like, Oh, I'm gonna see what I make. How were the burgers?
LanoYeah, but um he said they came out real good. So you're just leaving the patty, the burgers obviously take quicker, right? Yeah, quicker. So you leave them on there smoking for 10 minutes or something?
MigMaybe 10-15 minutes. You know, it's like they're not gonna get like that char that you want, or like that char crust that you want on it, but damn, dude, are they gonna be juicy? That's the thing, dude. They're gonna come out soon.
LanoI love my flat top, but you're like, I'm on it the whole time. This is like the set it and forget is what's trying to excel me on it.
MigI'm telling you, in the set it and forget it, the whole thing is that there's no flame kick up. You know, so even if you throw chicken in there and like see you go do something, you're like, oh shit, the chicken. Go back and look. It's not like you're gonna go back and find black pieces of meat.
SpeakerYeah, yeah. Right.
MigYou know, because the flames kicked up and burned the shit out of it.
SpeakerYeah.
MigYou know, it's gonna, it's still gonna be there. You know, it's like hopefully it didn't overcook. But more than likely it'll just be a little dark, you know, and hopefully still juicy.
Meat Shopping Freezers And Meal Prep
MigWhere are you buying your meat at?
LanoSam's Club or where?
MigAt Sam's Club, I bought the ribs and those tri-tip steaks. But uh Sala I got it at a little market in um El Sereno. Which one? Because I'm looking for a little cancer. It's on Poplar.
LanoI'm going by the gas station, no? Meno, Menuno.
MigWhich one where it drops down?
SpeakerYeah, like towards Alhambra or whatever done. Meno bought um some good uh uh uh asada, ranchera at Northgate Market.
MigIs that one or he said Vallarta?
SpeakerOh, I think Northgate.
MigBecause I asked him and he said it was Vallarta. Is it? They actually they sell a tray, but it's like for like a taquisa tray.
LanoUh-huh.
MigSo it already has it chopped up like for tacos. And you gotta do it like on a flat top.
LanoBecause I know Northgate has like a family pack, it's like pastor chicken and and asada. Like a that's what it is then. And it'll come with a pack of tortillas and a chopped up one. Yeah, it's like chopped up. But that's the one that he got. Like some family package.
MigBecause I'm I know that there's only like a Northgate by me that's kind of in in West Covina. Yeah. Because he was telling me if there's a North Gate in the city. But that's gonna be the Takisa tree. Mm-hmm. Where everything's already cut up and on the flat top. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right.
LanoAnd my wife, um, we were getting that for a while, but then my wife like doesn't really care for the pastor, so we just get like a pound of the chicken and the pound of the asada, whatever. You guys don't like that um that chain, that carneseria chain? I I like it, but they're just they're not around me. I mean, the closest one's like covina.
SpeakerAnd too expensive, uh.
LanoI mean, sometimes I'll drive out to go get it. Actually, I thought the prices were pretty good. Oh, it's good. It's good.
MigIt's pricey, but it's good. I mean, the asada that I got was $12.99, so a pound. That's good, no. I I think so.
LanoBecause where you go, the one in La Puente?
SpeakerOr are you you don't go? I got I got them. Oh, you got carnecidias there. I got La Puente, I got um Covina. They I got like three of them around me. There's one right there in El Monte. The open one in Monte.
LanoAnd they got Wagyu beef there, like 100% brand. And then they like they got like their own brand of chips that like the kids like and stuff. And the salsa. Yeah, every time I go, I end up spending like a bunch of money because I'm buying. Do you have like a chest or a chip? A chorizo's good there. A ice chest or like a freezer? I have a freezer. No. Yeah, that's what I'm looking at. Something like that. I have a freezer. To buy the big the meat in bulk and then store it and then like drill it and all that stuff. But um How long can you freeze it?
SpeakerYeah.
MigI mean, as long as you don't like freeze, thaw, and then try to freeze it again. No, no, no. Just as soon as you buy it and then you fill it. It'll last a long time, dude. Without being free of freeze uh getting the freeze burn? Foam free. And when you put it in, it has to be thought out, right? Everything has to be thought out. I mean, it'll last even longer if you get those food saver things where the package, where the you put it in a plastic bag, seal them, and you suck all the air out, oh yeah. They'll last even longer at that end, they won't get the freezer burn.
SpeakerYeah.
MigThat way they'll last you a long time. And then it's kind of it's kind of even it's kind of even better because especially like if it's just like you and Vanessa are just you and Laura and the girls, right? And you can portion stuff.
SpeakerYeah, yeah.
MigSo like say you buy like a five-pound, you come across a really good deal on a five-pound piece of chuck roast or whatever, you know, you can break that down into smaller pieces, yeah, you know, and portion them to where you do them into like maybe like single servings or like servings to just where you can have it for dinner. Pull one pull one out. Yeah, make it for dinner.
LanoMeal prepping. No, that's that's good stuff. Cause like when we cook out there, then like we're cooking like for the whole week. Like I'll cook a whole bacon on the the flat the flat top, I'll cook a whole um thing of bacon and the kids are nibbling on that like all week long. The bacon. I want one of those damn dick dip sandwiches right there.
SpeakerI know that looks good. Take that off the screen already, dude. It looks good um.
MigYou
Local Food Spots Hot Chicken And Pastrami
Migremember when we were getting the Philly sandwiches right there in Alhambra? Where the 7-Eleven's at off the freeway?
LanoYeah, yeah, but they closed it, right? They moved it. Now it's like Monty's or something. Yeah, it's Monty's ramen.
MigYeah, it's called uh no, it's called Monty's uh waffle, chicken and waffle or something.
LanoWell, is it? Uh-huh.
MigBut they're saying that their sandwiches are really, really good. And they're not calling them Philly cheesesteaks, but they're calling them like chopped cheese. Monty Monty is there right now? Yes. In that plaza? The same store, the exact same location. Is it the same like owner? It wasn't that ramen. I don't think it's the same. It was on that ramen. Were that ramen piece that right? No, that's that's on the other end.
LanoYou know how Montes would be like the famous steakhouse? Like it's kind of like the same logo that they they spell the Monty's logo.
MigOh, I don't know. You see, um, you ever see videos of all the people that are visiting here for the cup? Yeah, how they're trying all the food. Oh, yeah.
LanoThey like they're all blue. People in Texas, dude. Oh, look at here it is. Sorry, I gotta get it on the screen. Um, Montese comfort food made to crave Monty's all hand. I haven't I haven't tried it yet. Oh, made to crave. This looks like a nice sandwich beef.
MigBut they call those uh chopped uh chopped cheese melts. Yeah, look at that.
LanoChopped cheese. Oh, I think I'm gonna try this place out. Oh, look at that chicken waffle, dude.
MigThat's right. And they said they're known for their chicken and waffles. Get the flip out of here. This looks pretty good.
LanoAnd it's just a quick exit away.
MigI'm gonna take Vanessa. She says by far, she says the best chicken waffle she's had is at the chicken coop.
LanoWhere's that? Oh, the one hammer, the one we get the nachos from. That chicken place.
MigOh, that chicken coop. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I took her to the one in Whittier.
LanoOh, okay. Over like Roscals and stuff? Yeah, she's been in Roscals? Yeah. Roscals overrated, bro. I I love Roscals, though. There's a flavor that you always get.
MigRascals is Oh, this dude's over there, huh?
LanoThis guy's been there. I might have to check this out like this week.
MigOh, you see that dude go down?
LanoI'm gonna go check that out, man.
MigYeah, that dude, I follow him on Instagram.
LanoYeah, I've seen I I've seen a lot of his videos. He doesn't know. He goes to a lot of good places. He does a lot of places that we go to. Yeah, like he went to Jamela's Jamelli's or whatever. Jamela's Jamela's. He goes to there, L and B's in East LA. He goes there everywhere.
MigHow about the this one Asian dude? I don't know if he's Filipino or something. He's like all tatted up. He's he like kind of talks straight.
LanoI've seen an Asian guy, but not tatted up. Oh, this looks good. Big chunky dude. Nah. I didn't know what it was.
MigThere was this dude, Vanessa follows him, and I see some she shows me videos of him. Uh-huh. And um he went to um tasty goodie Chinese food.
SpeakerOh, okay.
MigHe said he liked how much they pack in the damn the trays. They walnut shrimp and the Mongolian beef. Yeah. Oh I haven't tried that. Right there? Boom. Oh man. Hell yeah, dude. Have you taken menu there? Nah. Forget that guy.
SpeakerYeah, I'm about to try it out, man.
LanoWhat else we got? Dude, I'm getting hungry now.
MigI know. What are we gonna eat?
LanoAll that from the top.
MigYou know what we never have again? That damn um rummen or what? No, no. Hollows. Hollows.
LanoHollows. Howling? Oh, howling? Howling rays? Howling raids? I think they're closed on Tuesdays. Because I think we're trying to like I'll double check.
MigI want to say they opened one in Vegas, and I just seen a video of someone doing like food reviews for Vegas. And they said that they've been to the Howling Raids here. And I think they said that the one out there in Vegas is a little bit better. Really? Mostly because you don't gotta wait in line for two hours. Oh yeah, look at this.
LanoIs it real crazy? Is it still crazy in Panzerina like that? Yeah, well, some days I'll I'll see it on I'll see it on Sundays. And it'll be it'll be crazy. But Mickey is right. There is a Vegas location now.
SpeakerVegas. Oh, Chinatown?
LanoVegas. Is this inside like a casino?
MigIt's inside a casino. I forget which one you can.
LanoChinatown. I don't really know. Okay. Okay. I think it's time that we know, and there's another one. Mickey, we we tried that um that pastrami sales. I don't think Ricky's ever tried it yet, huh? That other remember the pastrami on Adams?
MigOh, on Adams, yeah. What was it called?
LanoUm Johnny's, Johnny's Pastrami on Adams. Oh, Johnny's on Adams. That's the other Johnny's. But Mickey had it, and I want you to try it. So one of these days, because Holly Ray's I think is closed. I'm gonna we'll order it and we'll eat it. But that has to be a day like I know, so you can get it like fresh. You gotta eat it there. I mean, if you want to go to Adams, but I mean they deliver over here. They'll deliver? Yeah, that's where I always get them. They deliver it. I've only been there like maybe twice, and then the rest has been delivery.
MigI don't think it's necessarily like you have it there. Yeah.
LanoBut just fresh.
MigIt should be fine being delivered.
LanoOkay. Oh yeah, that's I wanna I I I wanted to see what time they close, Halloween, or they're open today. Oh, yeah, see like a Wednesday through Sunday. Yeah, they're they're closed on Tuesday.
SpeakerMonday and Tuesday, yeah.
LanoYeah, that's why we haven't had it here because we used to record on a different day. Monday and Tuesdays are closed 11 to 7. Yeah, dude, and and I don't know if it's a pro tip, but one time we ordered like at 6 30 and they threw in a bunch of stuff. Like, I don't know if they're just trying to clean up the the kitchen or whatever. But we got we had extra fries, extra like extra wings and extra whatever coleslaw. They just like threw like loaded it up.
SpeakerYeah, well, I I wonder if people were trying that place out.
Vegas Gets Expensive And Comps Disappear
SpeakerOh yeah, because um the the probably huh?
LanoI I I saw that report, like they're liking their food portion. And then I don't know if you guys saw the buckies opened up in Glendale, Arizona. In Arizona? Glendale, Glendale, Arizona. Really? Oh no. So that would be like our closest Buckys. I said like the West Bucky. I'm the most west bucket.
MigI think I think there's talks of um putting the buckies right there on state lane. Nice. At the print the prime?
LanoYeah, because it's already closed. Yeah.
SpeakerDidn't we talk about it last time?
LanoOh, I've been seeing in the news that they're like we probably said it already. That they're like like trying to get new owners or something like that. Uh for that prime? Yeah. Prim. I saw something that I don't know what the the company's called terrible. They say terribles. Terables. Terribles. Is that the company?
MigTerribles is another down. They're probably just gonna put a shitload of gas stations there. Terribles is that other one down the oh that's Nevada Landing. Nevada's landing. But they didn't they didn't open the hotel, they just put a big ass gas station there. With a white castle. Nevada's landing.
SpeakerThat made no sense, man. Like then doing Nevada's Landing. Is it Prim or Prime? Prim.
LanoIt says Prim will not be going dark on four digital day.
SpeakerI think even still Vegas is dying? Or no? Well, you guys have been going. Yeah, it's not.
MigThat's not the same. It's not the same, dude. It's gotten way too expensive. Yeah. It's like even even. When they priced out, they priced out everything. Yeah. It's like even now. When I would always get rooms comped, yeah. Like, especially like with the with the big hotels on the strip, like with the MGM group and the Caesars group and all them, they don't comp you rooms anymore. It's like they'll give you a really cheap rate, but then they they still screw you with the resort fees. Yeah. It's like before that's the only reason I would stay there is because you're not charging me anything for the room. I'm like, I'll pay the resort fee. You know, if you give me the room for free.
SpeakerI mean, we need to do it. But now they're not doing that anymore.
LanoBut I think all those resort fees are kind of nuke because that's to pay for all those new stadiums and stuff. Like the new baseball stadium.
MigIt's been there for a long time. Not to pay for Collegiate Stadium or nothing.
SpeakerTheir bonds or whatever they do. The only good thing to do is to go golf. Yeah. To go golf in Vegas. It's it.
MigLike uh the watching the game, finding a space to watch the games and gamble. Because right now, the only time the only times I've been going is when Resorts World offers me, they're the only ones, the last ones that offer me completely free rooms. And I mean completely free comped and no resort fee.
SpeakerDamn.
MigYeah. So whenever I see them on there, that's why I'll I'm like, I'll go. I mean they gotta be getting enough high rollers going there. Because I guess it they have to because how how are they sustaining all that all that business? Because it's it's the people that were waiting to get comped and go gamble and all that. And if they're not going and they're not buying, they're not going spending in these buffets and all this stuff. I mean, how are they staying alive? So it's got to be the high rollers forever and a day. They've been saying that their lifeblood was a slots. Yeah. And that's all your low-roller players. Yeah.
SpeakerAnd even that, they're not. Well, because he priced them out. Yeah.
MigDo you feel like that's why I don't know how they're surviving?
LanoThe the um Except Circus Circus. No, no, what is the I mean, I'm trying to look for the Indian casinos? Is that the proper word or Native American casinos? What is it called?
MigJust say it, man. Worry about being PC.
LanoWell, whatever. Like, are this are the slots looser there than Vegas? Like you'd rather go there than to Vegas?
MigLike, I actually think the slots in Vegas are better. Looser? Okay. Yeah. I think right here, because even uh Yamava, man, it's like I'm getting tired of going there because nothing goes. Nothing. Nothing, dude. Like lately? Nothing. It's like we've driven all the way out. We've driven all the way out to uh to Hemet last. I'd rather drive out to Hemet, San Jacinto, to go out to Soboba. Because it seems like we had a better time there than Nayama. If you go, if you go over there, it's probably you gotta go um like if we can't take my dad, probably get a room, huh? Because the drive is too much for him. Nah, dude. It it's an extra complained about the drive. Like if he's driving.
LanoEmmett's like um Merino Valley area, right? Or on the way down there, or where Temecula? It's not Temecula.
MigIt's like I'm I'm not liking Yamava because it's always a pain in the ass to find parking. Well, they got a golf course too, huh?
LanoSo it's a boba.
MigYou know, the the place is packed now all the time, even in the mornings. Pickleball. When before we used to go in the mornings and get on a machine, it would be easy, you know, and that's when we would win. But now it's like it's getting harder and harder.
SpeakerI'm going on Friday for a Lincoln Park tribute. Yamboa.
LanoOh yeah?
unknownYeah.
LanoUm Soboba is him in that area?
SpeakerSan Hasino going going for a Lincoln Park tribute. And then um she's gonna get tickets for Big Daddy Kane. Big Daddy Kane's gonna be.
MigOh, yeah, yeah, I saw that.
SpeakerYeah.
LanoYou haven't played golf there, huh? I'm looking at like a nice golf course, it looks like.
MigSee, but that would be a good reason to stay out there.
Golf Talk Topgolf And Cheater Clubs
MigGolf? Suboba? Because they got a golf course out there.
LanoI don't I wanna I we I gotta get out. I wouldn't get out and play golf, dude.
MigI don't know.
LanoSo I was gonna teach my wife how to play golf, and then she got pregnant. And then now finally, like the kids are at an old enough age, they're now she's talking about like, oh, we should start like trying to play golf again. But um I'm gonna start teaching her the proper way. Explain to me how you're gonna teach how to play clubs with cheat clubs?
MigHow you're gonna teach to play golf if you don't even know how to play golf.
LanoIt's just muscle, what is it, muscle memory?
MigYeah, but you got no memory. Muscle memory of it requires memory, dude, and your muscles have none.
LanoHave you guys uh well I'm gonna start at the small courses? That's where I used to have the fun at the small courses because the big courses they just got too big for me. I couldn't hit the long ball with you guys.
MigNo, but um This coming from the dude that wanted to spend like 500 bucks when we couldn't but we would hack up a course and he wanted to go to journeys, yeah.
LanoBut uh, like I want to like show her like the little cheater.
MigBell gardens still there, the bell gardens course, a cheater cheer cheater chipper, cheater tea, and then he had like he was buying like bracing things to help him like with the perfect swing and everything.
LanoFor practice, that's for the to get the muscle memory. But um, like I want to take her to Bell Gardens and all that stuff, like those those little courses. I mean, you could go just right here to Royal. Well, yeah, Royal, well, that's one of them. That's but Royal, like you have to be kind of like straight because it's like a little narrow.
SpeakerWow.
LanoBut I remember Bell Gardens, they would let like they would like you buy buckets right there and and drink on the tea. Wow, how's Monterey? Oh, Monterey Park too, another one.
MigYeah, Monterey Park's nice.
LanoI mean, I haven't been to those courses all like in 10-15 years. I haven't been to Monterey Park in 10, like I don't know.
MigIf you want to make it a date night, go to Topgolf.
LanoWe actually haven't done that either. I haven't done topgolf. You guys done that? And the girls, the girls will probably be entertained there. The topgolf? Yeah. I'll have to get the first floor so they don't like walk off the edge.
RickYeah, yeah.
LanoOh man.
MigThey got necessary to catch them. Yeah. I see a lot of videos of dumb broads, drunk ass broads swinging. That's real. Yeah, they have to have nets. Fall into that net. Yeah. They have to because of because of that reason right there alone.
LanoThat's great. So none of you guys have been to the um that top golf in in um there.
MigI've been to the one off over there in Ontario. I've been to that one.
LanoYeah.
MigOnly only one I've been to is in Vegas.
LanoSo they just gamify it, like you get points where you hit those holes or or something, or how do they like I've never been there too? You know what?
MigThe one that I like playing is the Angry Birds. So you you're on a screen on an Angry Bird game. You just hit spots and you're just knocking down blocks. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's a cool game.
LanoWe'll have to do like a birthday or something or something out there. Wow. Nice. I see it. Seems like I haven't seen you guys like in a while.
Car Theft Lessons AirTags And Locks
LanoAnd then so everybody wants a big update. How's the um any uh different news on the car? The one that got stolen. No. Like they caught some guy.
SpeakerOh, the one you sent.
LanoOr or the Mickey sent it? I thought it said, Mickey sent it. I thought you sent it.
MigI didn't send it. The Cypress Park one? I didn't send that one. Those were the two. Oh, yeah, they recovered some tools. Um Marcos. Markle sent it to me. Oh.
unknownYeah.
MigWell, no, I think that guy got they the guy got his tools back. Because he should have had see, that's what I said.
SpeakerLike I should have put some air tags in the in one of the tools or something.
MigThat way uh thing. Yeah, those things, those things come in handy. But I got I got the locks on there, I got a club on there, I put the kill switch on there. So um they're gonna have to go through a lot of things. How much like we're gonna get air tags? Amazon Prime. Oh, do it.
LanoHow long do they last? They're supposed to last like two years. I mean, I bought them when they first came out. I haven't you can change the batteries.
SpeakerBecause I can just stick one underneath the chair. I'm underneath the um seat, right? Yeah, under the seat anywhere. You can change it. And put another one in a in a tool or something. Yeah.
LanoYeah.
SpeakerA little pocket or whatever. The point is to catch them within the first few hours.
LanoBut normally, like an AirTag is 30 bucks. If you buy a four-pack, a hundred bucks. But like on Prime Day, normally you can get like a four-pack for 75 bucks. So now is the time to buy it. And the batteries last two years, and then you could change the battery too. It's like a little watch battery. And then um because it's not an i it's not an Apple thing, right? It is an Apple brand. But I think it works on everything.
SpeakerAndroid it's an app you can download.
LanoYeah, I mean, you could do it on your work iPad or your work phone.
SpeakerI mean, I would put it on my work phone.
LanoI mean But uh how much um total did you have to spend on all that and all like your fees and all that stuff to get the car out and uh have you got your insurance money yet or not yet?
SpeakerYeah, no, I already got it. I already started I already bought a lot of stuff already back. Yeah. Yeah, they did. I should I gotta send them some receipts. So but no, I got a lot of stuff back already. I've already got my power tools and a lot of hand tools already. So I'm able to get back
Truck And Engine Updates Final Thoughts
Speakerat it.
LanoAnd then another update. Um, did you ever get that engine? You bought you picked it up or no? There was an engine that you're gonna pick up that that um your neighbor um was like, oh well let's pick it up tomorrow or something like that. Your Nova, yeah.
SpeakerYeah, I got it.
LanoPicked it up.
SpeakerYeah, and and I got my damn truck put together already. Oh, it's it's all so I put the bed back on. Mark Mark came over one Saturday to help me put it on. Um I got I'll put back together, but um I gotta raise the front a little bit more, the coils, because it's rubbing on the fender. Oh, okay. And then lock up the four link. I have to check the pinion angle to make sure the differential and the triney are gonna take it to get aligned either way, right?
MigYeah. Yeah. Hey, but I don't remember if I got those um what are those things on the A arms cut off.
SpeakerCause stupid peppers right here, they always made a big deal by oh I can't we can't align it because I think it was because of those damn washers for the um for the what do they call that?
MigThe um camera and gaster yeah they they can't adjust the wheel right there. I don't know. Or they just they don't know how to do it, but yeah. Yeah, they always they always say like oh we can't do it.
SpeakerI can take it because of that. I think you you gotta like it's on the stock, on the stock area arms are like welded or something. I don't know, something like that.
LanoBut I go to American tires and like I have to take my um my wheel covers off before I go because I told the guy like oh you you take off the little center ring first and then they pop off and they're like yeah, yeah, we know how to do it. Then the guy see him like portion it like with the prior and all this other stuff, and it was like now I just take it all off before I even get to do it, whatever. But yeah, no, nice seeing you guys, yeah. Nice to be Bob. Summer, summer break, a lot of schedule changes and everything.
MigYeah, well, a lot of work. We've been working our asses. I gotta go drop something off right now at the getting. But yeah, good to get back into it. Take the tunnel, Mark. I expect to hear from you. I expect to hear all your shit talking, so I'm team Traeger now. And I'm gonna make more ribs. Oh, yeah.
SpeakerNext week. My mom's buying a Traeger for next week's show.
MigYeah. I'm thinking about it now. I might give you my recipe. I don't know. I'm thinking about it. There we go. But keep on drifting, yo. Peace.
