What does it mean to say no to abuse in an abusive family? Being the one to change a family dynamic or break toxic emotional patterns takes a lot of strength and courage. Sometimes the person with that courage becomes the black sheep, exiled from the family because of a refusal to go along with the toxicity. There can be a high price to pay for standing up for what you believe in, including losing people who embrace their dysfunction over being healthy relationships.
