The $50,000 Turkey Hunt Competition with Kenny Zuspan
[00:00:00]
Introduction & Sports Talk
Have to buy their own tags and license, and at the end of it, we'll do a combined NWTF score of the birds and a cumulative score. We will pay 50,000 for first, 25,000 for second, 20,000 for third, 15,000 for fourth and $10,000 for fifth. Wow. Oh my gosh. Wow. I would settle for finishing fifth.
Camel boots on my feet, bowing my hand walking in the early dawn to climb up in my. Stand, Alex. I know it's about food plot planting time. What are you gonna plant this year? Okay. In the spring I like to plant different things and also in the fall, but my go-to all the time is the eagle seed smorgasborg, because it has a variety of blends.
You know, when I was a kid and even as an adult, I loved to go to a smorgasborg. I bet it's the [00:01:00] same for deer. It is. They, they have a variety to choose from. Instead, eating one thing all the time. They got a bride just like you walking into a restaurant. Get smorgasbord today and you'll hold more deer and Turkey.
How can I go about getting that smorgasbord to go to a dealer near you or go to ww dot eagle seed.com. Yeye Technologies presents. Welcome to American Roots Outdoors. I'm calling via phone from my pickup. I'm pulling into a spot to park here where there's no loud traffic noise or anything. Uh, one of my hunting properties here.
I was going to check my wis eye cameras. Uh, it's pretty weather's really got me wanting to get out and do things. Red bone. Yeah. Well it is absolutely gorgeous out there. And, and by the way, folks, we're recording on Monday this week, so if you remember the weather. Last Monday. Yeah. Good day to get out. Boy, it'd be a good day to be doing some
Fishing Reports & Super Bowl Recap
fishing.
Alex, I know you were talking about the walleye, walleye. Fishing's really good. And the trout fishing right now is outstanding because the walleye and the trout are getting [00:02:00] ready to go to bed, so they're gonna be spawning soon. So that's when you wanna catch those big trout and big walleye. Exactly. I've been getting text messages from my nephew, Tommy.
He, he showed me a picture of a big walleye he caught yesterday and, uh, up on Black River, and he said he caught a bunch of bass. Hmm. And I got texts this morning from Richard White's side and his son, and they're catching Croppy on the lower end of Current River right now. Wow. I didn't know there were any croppy in Current River.
Yeah. They worship from the Black River. They think Oh, okay. Where most of 'em come from. And also people's ponds that have them along the rivers and they over flood and wash into the creeks. Yeah. Uh, but anyway. That's good. I, I'm wanting to get out and do some fishing, but I've been out, like I said, moving cameras, checking cameras.
And, uh, just getting ready for Turkey season NW tfs, this weekend in Nashville. I leave Wednesday, come back Saturday night or Sunday, uh, NFL [00:03:00] last night Super Bowl. I, I knew we all knew Seattle was gonna win, you know, I figured it'd be, uh, two touchdowns or, you know, and it basically was two touchdowns. Yep.
But what a game. Yeah. Well, here's my take on the Super Bowl. I didn't say this beforehand because I didn't know for sure Seattle would win, but I, I was pretty positive. Uh, Seattle won the Super Bowl because Bo Nicks broke his ankle. Yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. Well, if Bo Nicks doesn't, they could not move the ball well, if Bo Nicks doesn't break his ankle and the Broncos would've played the Patriots, the Broncos would've won that game and they would've been in the Super Bowl, would've been a much better ball game, I think.
I agree. I would agree with you. Di was my team moving on high school basketball? Liberty Eagles are on a roll. Red Bone, they're 16 and two right now. And not in all games, but I mean, well all games, but not all [00:04:00] district games. SCA games, I believe they are, are 14 and two SCA, so they are on fire. Uh, I know Thayer's been playing great ball.
They won Big at Liberty this past Saturday. Uh, they was playing, uh, yeah, played, go, uh, played, go. Yeah. Yeah. Well, lemme put this out, Alex, because we're, like I said, we're recording on Monday and the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association just released their new ranking.
High School Basketball Rankings
So I went through and I got all the teams that are in our listening area that are ranked.
Let's start with class one. The only area team ranked in Class one. We're talking boys. Alright, that's boys basketball, bunker Eagles, bunker. Bunker is still undefeated. Still ranked number one, and they are some kind of good. I've seen them play like three times now in class two, Exaco has moved into the number one spot because Hartville dropped to number three after losing to Thayer.
[00:05:00] Uh, van Buren is at number four. Way to go. Bulldogs, Norwood Pirates. Norwood Pirates are number five. Uh, Charleston is at number six. Hayti is at number eight, and Mansfield number nine. That's all in class two. So, you know, our part of the world kind of dominated by Class two. Basketball. Uh, going to class three, the number one team, or excuse me, uh, class three, number one, team is Principia.
Number six is Scott City. Number nine, Sparta. And number 10, mountain View, B Street, Liberty, Eagles. And I would figure they would be higher rankings than that with their record and the teams they beat. I don't know why they do it. Yeah, well, I mean, that's just what the voters think. Uh, it just good to get in the top 10.
By the way, Thayer, if they went that far, would be number 11. Alright, in class four, uh, Rogersville, uh, ranked number three, they dropped down from, from number one after getting beat and in class six, Jackson. [00:06:00] Over in southeast Missouri is ranked number seven, and the rollable dogs are number nine.
Danny Van Eaton Tribute & Show Preview
So there you go.
Teams that are within the listening area of American Roots outdoors, those are the teams that are ranked. That is awesome. I wanna give a big shout out real quick. Uh, we had a, a gathering for a friend, Mr. Danny Van Eaton at Manfield, Missouri. Mm-hmm. And, uh. We done a burnout for him and he's got term, uh, terminal cancer, stage four.
A bunch of us with muscle corn. Went up there and had lunch with him and, and man, there was three to 500 people there. It was amazing. So we give a shout out to him and to everybody that listens to our show. We got a great show lined up for. It's, uh, with Kenny Susman with first class White Tails. He puts on a competition Turkey hunt last year and this year he is doing it again this year.
First place is $50,000 to a team of two guys order women hunting [00:07:00] turkeys in Ohio, West Virginia. They're paying $50,000 in first place. We're gonna talk with Kenny how to get registered. I don't know that he's got any spots open. Still left open. Mm-hmm. But we're gonna talk with him. He gonna tell us how he come up with the idea to do this and how this helps generate more revenue for his community.
Don't go away. We'll be back with more American roots outdoors right after this. Come on. Hey, this is Eddie Salter and you listen to American. And outdoors with Alex Rutledge and Friends
Red Bone Wise, I has just gotten better with these new cameras that they come out with. How could it get better? Well, they got the new mini and they've got the new DC two. They have the DC two. Yeah, DC two. You can actually go live anytime you want and film your own hunts with the [00:08:00] wise eye data count. Now wait a minute.
You mean I could be getting ready to shoot a deer and I could go on my phone and activate my camera and boom. Film your own Huhuh. Well, that's amazing. That's amazing. Okay, Alex, you convinced me. How do I get one of these cameras? Go to a dealer near you or go to wise tech.com. Order yours today, take it to a crown of a big old 12 point hunting blinds presents.
Welcome back to American Roots Outdoors. Again, I'm calling via phone. Sitting in my American roots truck at one of my hunting properties, I'm getting ready to shake my wise's eyes and, and, uh, do some scouting. Look for some sheds. I'm getting ready to go to the NWTF and man, what a great show we got lined up for everybody
Kenny Zuspan Interview Begins
here.
If you're a Turkey hunter and you think you're a dang good Turkey hunter, and you'd like to try to win $50,000. I know of a place and a person that's putting on a vent and he's joined us right now. [00:09:00] Mr. Kenny Usman, a first class white pills is paying out $50,000 for first place to a team that can kill six gobbler and has the highest score.
Welcome to the show, Kenny. Thanks, Alex. Yes, sir. Kenny, what's the weather doing in Rutland, Ohio? Is that where you're at?
About about four inches of snow. And it's, uh, in the teens, but it's supposed to be almost 60 degrees here tomorrow. Well, here in Birch Tree and Bay listening areas out here, we're, we're in the sixties right now and it is absolutely beautiful and sunny. The Turkey will be strutting everywhere in this sun.
Kenny, let's kick this thing off. Uh, let's talk about real quick so people know who you are, who you are. Who is Kitty Zoman uh,
hunting camp in southeast Ohio that we manage, uh, right now, [00:10:00] 36 farms, uh, uh, for giant white tails and lots of turkeys. So you was born and raised in Rutland, Ohio, and you played high school football, and you grew up Turkey and you and I become good friends several years ago. And you said you'd learned the Turkey hunt by watching some of the Hs start Turkey videos and, and you invited me over and here we are, we're doing Turkey camps together.
And, uh, I want, I want you to educate people about the idea. How do you come up with the idea to pay out a bunch of money and, and, and talk about that with us? Um, I mean, we just, I like being competitive. Uh, I'm trying to figure out a way to, uh, involve Turkey hunting, which is, you know, my favorite pastime was something competitive.
And, uh, so we come up with having this, uh, Turkey competition, a tag team Turkey competition that you and a buddy can come into camp and enjoy
Competition Format & Rules Explained
different states chasing. Uh, [00:11:00] three long beards. A piece six total for your team.
So, yep. We thought that, uh, it gives people a reason to, uh, mix, uh, hunting with a competitive edge red bone. Yeah. My, my question, so is, so it's three turkeys per hunter?
Yes, sir. Okay. So, so what if one guy. So, I mean, just explain this to me because you know what, if one guy tags out, I mean, kills all three and the other one only kills one, can hunter number one come back then and pick up the slack for the other two? Or, or is it just a definite limit? Three per hunter? Nope, it's three per hunter.
But that's the laws, that's our, uh, bag limit. Okay. Um, so the teams are usually hunting together, working birds together. Sometimes they'll split up on different farms. So when they come into our camp, they'll come in on Sunday here and we,[00:12:00]
for them to draw, uh, we spin the wheel and when their name comes up, they come pick a packet and an unmarked packet when they open it. That is the farm that they got in West Virginia. We give them the onyx boundaries, the parking and uh, directions to it. And they usually go over on sat on Sunday evening scouting, and then they'll get to hunt the first three days of season, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 1:00 PM each day.
Uh, they have GoPros, um, their timestamp and, you know, show their face in the video with it for proof. Uh, we're all on a group text, so they text it to the group, the picture of the bird, and we wait until everyone comes back in the afternoon and we score 'em all together here on the back porch when we're eating lunch.
Oh wow. So this is, this is very organized. I mean, y'all are pretty much aware of what's going on every step of the way. Yep, yep. We know we, we had everyone on life 360. Everyone's got their video stuff. [00:13:00] So Kenny, so Kenny, you, you're hundred two states, they're actually hunting two states. They're gonna hunt Ohio and West Virginia.
You're allowed one Turkey in Ohio and two in West Virginia. Correct. That's correct. So our season in Ohio won't open up till Saturday. So the guys wanted to come in for the season opener that that done it last year. So no one else was ing the birds or anything. So on Thursday is gonna be an off day. They can sleep in, get up that day we'll, so they can go out Friday scouting in Ohio and then they get to hunt opening two days, Saturday and Sunday in Ohio.
So. It sounds confusing to me, but, but you said they could hunt Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday originally. Well, that, that's originally what we was trying to do. But after I, I've got 19 teams signed up out of the 25 slots we got available and everyone started saying to three days and I said, well, I'm not
Prize Money & Entry Details
[00:14:00] opposed to that.
And you'll just have a day off in between. Um, because our seasons are not in at the same time for the season Openers. Okay, so, so Kenny, are these hunters, are they paying an entry fee and do they have to buy their own tags? Yes. It's 7,500 entry fee per team that gets them six days of, or seven days of lodging and five days of hunting, uh, gets, uh, they have to buy their own tags and license and at the end of it.
We'll do a combined NWTF score of the birds and a cumulative score. We will pay 50,000 for first, 25,000 for second, 20,000 for third, 15,000 for fourth and $10,000 for fifth. Wow. Oh my gosh. Wow. I would settle for finishing fifth, and we also have side pots that we'll do, we give, uh, prizes and cash for.
Bird with the longest beard, um, the [00:15:00] overall biggest bird. So we have a lot of other ways that, you know, people that can win that might not kill all six of their birds. Okay. Alright. So, and so you mentioned a while ago you got 19 spots that are full. You got 25 of able, are you still taking entries? Yes. We have 25 total teams.
We've got 19 of them filled so far. So we've got six, six teams left to fill. Okay, so if people are interested in hunting this, uh, and when is it, by the way? What, what are the dates? This is Uhto or April 20th through the 26th. And let me confirm that with the change. So they will be arriving actually on the 19th, and then they'll hunt the 20th, 21st and 22nd.
The 23rd will be a day off the 24th Scout, Ohio, and then they will hunt the 25th and 26th in Ohio. Wow, that's very interesting. It's kinda like, uh, uh, you know, kinda like a fishing tournament only we're killing turkeys instead of catching [00:16:00] fish. And it adds a fun, I mean, it's, it's a strategy game. Uh, if you get a farm and you've got two birds or a group of birds over in this area and one bird over on this side of the farm, you don't wanna split up and burger up the group of birds.
You wanna try to kill the either together on that group or the single bird. Uh, and then every year you got guys that are just, they're passing two year olds early in the tournament, um mm-hmm. Waiting, hoping that they can get a three or 4-year-old dive bird to come in. Yeah. That sounds really cool. Now, uh, this, it's Gobblers only, correct?
Yes. Gobblers only. Okay. Yeah. Alex, this sounds pretty interesting. I mean, I'm not a Turkey hunter, you know that I'm just kind of a novice hunter, but for people that really love the Turkey hunt, this sounds like a great way not only to enjoy a hunt somewhere other than where you normally hunt, but to compete for some prizes and you know, talking $50,000 for a team that's.
You know, for most people that is life changing money. Well, it's, you know, I, I've [00:17:00] been with cutting McKinney for it last four or five years now. And, and him, and as John say, they do a wonderful job of feeding you the lodging, everything. And he has lots of turkeys on those farms. And I actually go in after they're all done, like two weeks later or a week later.
These have calmed down and hunt Farm has not been hunted with other hunters, so I highly encourage anybody. If you think you're a Turkey killer, you want to get ahold of Kenny's Usman, you and the buddy. Uh, and we're gonna talk about segment three. About the winters last year and how the hunt unfolded, you're listening to American Roots Outdoors.
Don't go away. We will be back with more after this. This is Brenda Valentine and you're listening to American Roots Outdoors with Alex Rutledge and friends.
Remember when a hunter was measured by how well he [00:18:00] shot? Not how much he spent. When memories were measured in rooster Tails, not dollar bills. We do. We are spanned out. Reliable, easy to operate, extremely balanced, premium firearms offered at a price that proves you still know the true measure of a hunter.
Span down making the American hunting tradition available to us,
so you never worry. Seed presents. Welcome back to American Roots Outdoors, segment three of the show again, our special guest, Mr. Kenny Usman, the owner of First Class White Pills. This guy is putting on a competition. Turkey Hut for two people. Two man teams. Or man life, whatever, paying $50,000 to win this competition.
And [00:19:00] how you win it is you gotta kill your six turkeys, maybe not depending on how many turkeys killed. And the beard length, the spur length, and the weight. They use the official NWTF scoring system for this competition. Now, last year you put on your first event, let's talk about that. How many interests did you have and what was the
Last Year's Competition Results
payout?
Talk about that. Yep. Last year we did 15 teams, uh, see how it went. We paid 30,000 for first 20,000 per second, 10,000 for third and 7,500 per fourth. Um, we had a 6,500 buy-in last year. Uh, we had huge success. We had out of the 15 teams, uh, 13 out of the 15 killed birds. The two that did not line it up for 'em, and out of them 15 teams, we had four teams that killed all six of their birds.
Wow, that's pretty good odds. Impressive red bone. That, that's the impressive odds right there. We killed 58 turkeys in five days of hunting. Wow.[00:20:00]
So, so Kenny, what, what, do you get much flack from the locals about you putting this event on in the, in the area? No, let's talk about the negative and positives. I've had a lot of youth support locally. I mean, we've got a healthy deer, uh, Turkey population, and, um. A lot of my locals don't even Turkey hunt.
So we get to pick and choose which farms that we want to try to, you know, hunt in the competition. And, um, no, we never had no slack, really slack from anyone. And we had a lot of positive, uh, everyone that was in the competition. I had positive feedback. Uh, it was a learning year, you know, had certain, it ran fairly and smoothly.
They are super excited for this year. That's beautiful. Beautiful. So, so let's talk about this. So again, the, the guys that come in from last year, how many different states, uh, that was represented in your competition? We had 'em from Vermont. We had 'em from Arkansas. We had 'em from Florida, [00:21:00] Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky.
Um, that's where everything came from last year, Pennsylvania. We had several from Pennsylvania. You never had any from Missouri. Did not have any from Missouri. That is crazy. I know I mentioned, I mentioned it to some boys here recently and man, they're wanting to go, so, uh, that's good to know that you got six spots left.
We get custom made championship belts that we give to the winners and. Which everyone wanted. The tidal belts, they looked really cool. Had a Turkey. The belts went to Mississippi this year, first place, went to Mississippi, second place, went to Northern Pennsylvania. Third place team went to Arkansas, and the fourth place team went to Alabama.
Wow. Wow. So the states. And it kind is in competition as well. And that the Mississippi boys showed everybody how to drill turkeys. Yes, they did. So, yeah. So, so how many of the, uh, 15 teams that were in it last year [00:22:00] are coming back? Or do you allow teams to repeat and come back again? Yep. Yep. Um, so we had, we have, uh, one team that actually combined, uh, they, they, their partners wasn't able to do it, so they combined down to one team.
And out of the 15 teams, only two did not come redo it. And both of the two that didn't, or the teams that did not kill that said that they're used to a different species of bird, ah, mountain birds and then they're going to come back. So they feel like they know what they're doing a little better. Okay.
Awesome. Lemme ask you this, Kenny, it it, do you ask them to take a lie detector test with this much money on the line? And I hate to say anybody would cheat, but do you, is there a possibility they might have to take one? Well, that's what the video proof is, that they have to have, they have to have a flopping bird.
When they shoot that bird. They have that bird flopping and it's showing, you know, they turn [00:23:00] around, say the date and time and all that's saved on their phone. That shows the exact location of where they're at. That's awesome. That's keeping people honest. Red Bone. Yeah, it is. And, and I would think we have, I mean, with the kind of money that you're talking about, like you alluded to Alex, uh, you have to do something like that.
I mean, there's gotta be a way to, so it's not foolproof because there are people out there that would take advantage of that situation. Yeah. And one guy could kill all six turkeys, you know, now that he's got the, the, the GoPros, he must have it on film. You know, it's a different challenge for him now, and it.
Uh, Kenny. Yeah. I mean, that way they have proof. Everyone felt like everything went, you know, smooth the way it should. Mm-hmm. Uh, we even had one local in it and everyone, which was a guy that I had Turkey hunter with that wanted to do it, and some of the team was like, well, man, he's local. Is he going have a, they just, they couldn't get it done.
So, uh, they had no more advantage than everyone else. Um, everyone that wanted to see anything, we had [00:24:00] everyone on 360, so we gotta to see where everyone's phones were at, and as soon as they kill, they have to send it to the group. So we had all the video proof of everyone killing birds and where they're at and timestamped, and so, yeah, it lands smoothly.
All right. So I, I gotta ask you this before, yeah. Before, before we go. Yeah. Before we go to break, I gotta ask this. Was there a time. Uh, and I would think maybe opening morning might be, uh, this time that is that your phone was just going Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. B we all know we've got 14 birds down in the last 10 minutes.
I mean, was there a time when it got to that point? Um, it was pretty busy when West Virginia opened. Um, yeah. Ohio, it seemed like, I don't know. We killed a few birds early the first morning. The second morning we killed more on Saturday on the second day than we did the first day. 'cause Ohio opened up last year before West Virginia.
Okay. Putting, hurting on 'em by, by eight o'clock we'd done had like 15 birds down. Oh my God. Hey everybody. We're gonna go to [00:25:00] a break. We come back, we're talking with kitties. Usman first class white tails, $50,000 competition, Turkey unit. Don't go away. We'll be back with more right after this. Tyler Farr, and you're listening to My Good Buddy, Mr.

Horny ammunition presents. Welcome back to American Roots Outdoor segment four of our show. And again, our special guest, Kenny Usman, owner of First Class Whitetails. This cat, this cool dude is putting on a $50,000 first place Turkey hunting competition in Ohio and West Virginia. Kenny, you got 36
Property Management & Turkey Conservation
farms.
What do you do to protect these wild turkeys and what do you do to get ready for the hunt? How do you keep that many turkeys? We manage our farms. We're not cutting our fields for the puls until after the puls get big enough. We're planting a lot of clover p patches. We've got a twofer patch that we planted for them.
So we're, we're managing for the birds as well as we are for the white tails. So do you do any trapping or predator hunting? I know you, you, you, I, I, I believe you shared that with me before to [00:27:00] try to help keep your Turkey numbers strong. That's something that we have got into last, numbers down, uh, do a lot of stuff with my Kon dog out here.
Um, we're running our wifi cameras year round that as soon as the shed falls off the bucks, they're turned straight to Turkey strutting areas and watching, watching our bird population. So the wifis help you manage wildlife? Talk about that. Yeah. It cuts us a game changer for us. Uh, I mean. You get to see what food plots they're using when they're showing up.
Um, well, the birds aren't gobbling. I'm, I'm seeing the bird numbers on these cameras directly to us. And now, is that information that you share with your hunters that are in for the hunt? Um, later in the hunt? Like, I don't share any information other than here's the farm because the competitive point is they gotta figure it out.
Right. And then usually later in the hunt that I showed them the proof of what was there. Okay. Very cool. So wildlife serves different, uh, positives for you [00:28:00] really in this situation. Yep. You're managing your wildlife, watching your properties and something. They're just, they just ancy with a hunter. Well, here's pictures of all the turkeys in the food block.
You tell me there's no turkeys there and it was just yesterday before you got here, you know? That's good stuff. Red bone, Kenny. Reminds me of a guy I had in last year and he come in and we went to a farm that I know, a bird showing up and they decided that they was just going to head on out 'cause just wasn't hearing any birds.
I suggested us sit there and they said, ah, we're we're satisfied, and they left. And 45 minutes later, that bird that I told to sit at was sitting in front of the camera right where I told him.
Well, that's, I mean, that's, that's just kinda the way things go sometimes, you know, sometimes you can sit all day and not see a bird and go at the house. And why is I tell you there's a Turkey [00:29:00] standing in front of your camera. Kenny, I gotta ask you this. Uh, the percentage of birds that's killed. How many of them do you think called in and killed?
And how many do you think was Bush whacked last year? Um, I would say that it's probably a 75, 25. I'd say 75% of the birds are called in and the other 25 4 guys just sneaking in trying to get a bird goblins, trying to get in close to him just by listening to the stories they tell me, 'cause I have a paper, when they come in each hunt, they fill out a paper.
I want to hear how many birds they heard. Um, I gotta see the pen right where they dropped. That way it helps me with the scouting as well, knowing what the Turkey numbers are on them farms. Um, just, you know, some farms, they didn't hear as many and we probably won't hunt that farm this year. Well, so Kenny, tell me.
Contact Information & How to Enter
Uh, how can people contact you? What's the best way to contact you? You got six spots left. Anybody listening? [00:30:00] You better get ahold of Kenny because he's gonna sell these spots. Well, you can get on our Facebook first class White Toes of Ohio and watch several videos we made. We got all kinds of promo videos of footage of all our hunters from last year.
Um, we've got a whole video that's on YouTube, um, or you can shoot me an email, first class White Toes of ohio@gmail.com or gimme a call 7 4 0 5 0 8 0 0 5 6. Again, give that number one more time, real slow. That's 7 4 0 5 0 8. 0 5 6. Red bone. Don't you wish you was a good Turkey hunter to enter this competition?
I wish I was just an average Turkey hunter. I would enter this competition. I tell you right now, take you to call for absolute killers. And I know if they catch wind of this, they're gonna want to enter this thing. It'll surprise me if nobody from Missouri doesn't enter. Yeah, really? I, there's some killer here.
Yeah, it surprises me too. [00:31:00] So, uh, Kenny. People will reach out to you that maybe wanna do a similar thing in their part of the country. Uh, maybe they're wanting to copy what you're, you're doing. I'm sorry, we dropped. I'll just, what was that? Yeah, I just say, just gonna ask before we, we got about four minutes left
Future Plans & Predator Hunting Contest
here.
Uh, have you had anybody reach out to you that's wanting to do a similar competition in their part of the country and, and ask you, you know, how you do things and, and what makes it successful? Well, I had a guy from Kentucky reach out and wanted me to help actually promote and do one at his place at Kentucky.
The dates, uh, kind of fell wrong for what I'm doing here in Ohio and West Virginia. Okay. Um, because I could see Alex, I could, I could see this be a thing that really catches on and starts happening all over the country. Yep. I think so. Yeah. Kenny. Kenny and I had a discussion at putting on maybe a predator hunting contest next year after deer season and doing competitive, uh, predator hunt, this plate could pay [00:32:00] up to 30 to $50,000.
Well those are getting a lot of people enter that, Kenny. Well, that's in our game plans as we are continuing to grow this place that we're we're building. Yes sir. So again, how many acres do you have total for everybody to hunt if you added it all up? Well, in Ohio right now we've got roughly around 6,000 acres.
Not counting, you know where me, you and Bubba go down there and hunt, which is another 10,000 acres. Yeah. Um, in West Virginia we've got a little over 10,000. Wow. So it's pretty good. Pretty good. Yeah. These, these, these hunters aren't gonna be hunting on top of each other then, are they? I don't even like the farms to be connected to each other.
When I'm out looking for farms that I'm working with, I try to give every one about 300 acres in West Virginia, and I don't even like the farms. Touching, uh, they might be in half hour apart. So, um, just to keep everyone in plenty of room. Uh, very good. Alright. Uh, Alex, I think if, uh, you know, Kenny would give us [00:33:00] that, uh, contact information again would be good right here before we wrap it up.
Hey Kenny, give us your number again and how people can contact you. Yes sir. My phone number (740) 508-0056. And you can follow us on Facebook at First Class Whitetails of Ohio. You know, I'm looking forward to bringing my hunters out there a week after everybody leaves. I know you'll have plenty of turkeys and we get through. You always do. And, uh, hopefully we'll fill the rest of this camp up for you and I think we will. Uh, Kenny, you're always a great guest and I'm gonna wrap it up with this.

Bonus Segment: Turkey Recipes & Final Thoughts
arms presents. Welcome back to American Roots Outdoors. This is our bonus segment. Again, you're listening to this only on a podcast carrier, and again, our special guest, Mr. Kenny Usman, owner of First Class White Tails. This guy has got it going on in Ohio, the little bitty town of Rutman, Ohio. You know, there's a lot of positives, red bone that I have observed and really captured my mind.
State of Ohio and Ruland, Ohio is creating a lot of revenue for that community. Yeah, I would think the county, uh, the county government has gotta be just, uh, absolutely jumping up and down. So, uh, yeah. Real quick, Alex, if you will, or, or Kenny, uh, just for review for people maybe didn't listen to the [00:36:00] whole radio show exactly.
What is it you're talking about that he's doing a recap, Kenny. We're doing a five day, seven night Turkey hunt in two states, Ohio, and
hunt and try to kill six total birds, and a chance to take home a good pocket full of money. First place $50,000. Second place will be $25,000. Third place will be 20,000. Fourth place will be 15005th place will be 10,000. Folks, if you're listening to this, prior to Turkey season, he still has six spots available in this hunt, and it was $7,500 entry fee.
Is that correct, Kenny? Yes, sir. And that includes your, yeah. And you kind of broke up a little bit on me there, but, uh, that includes your lodging and your food. Uh, you're responsible for paying for your own, uh, uh. On tags and license. Alright, so, uh, I think Alex wanted to talk about recipes. You know, with all these turkeys [00:37:00] you gotta come up with some different ways to cook 'em.
I assume you're gonna cook some of those for the hunters. Well, it don't last very long the way we cook them because it'll melt in your mouth. Okay. Well, what are we doing before we go to recipes? How much is the non-resident tag for Ohio and West Virginia for our listeners? It'll be about 200 bucks I think for West Virginia and Ohio I think would be at right around 240 bucks or 220 bucks.
Okay, so around four 50 bucks, somewhere in there. Yeah, all those states. Alright, give everybody the recipes and I gotta ask this question. There's a lot of the guys that bring their turkeys, they let you keep the Turkey meat. Do y'all get them there? What do you do? Some guys take them and the rest of them, we have a big use them for food one night.
We like to slice the breasts and the like strips. Roll 'em in. Put 'em in egg batter. Roll 'em in flour and fry 'em in. Sweet cream butter [00:38:00] with garlic or season salt on it. Oh my god. You know, I never knew about sweet cream butter until Kenny showed it to me. Red bone. Really? Yeah. I've never seen it. Huh. Well that's good stuff.
Yes it is. And he cooked somewhere. I was out there. I had Madison Baker out there with me last year and Duncan, his buddy Duncan and uh uh, Duncan killed one and Madison had chances but couldn't get 'em close enough. But lots of turkeys out there, guys. Do you ever grill your Turkey breast? Is there other ways you cook it as well?
Kenny, Stephanie has a recipe that she does and she puts it on the smoker. Okay. And what is that? Well, I don't know that one. That one was on hers. You don't share that one with me? She won't share it. What kind of woman is that? She wants me to need her [00:39:00] for something.
Well, you better be good to her on Valentine's Day, you'll have at Kenny's husband's first class white pills. Ohio man, these guys got the turkeys and a chance to win $50,000. Third place is 30,000. Uh, second place is 30,000. Third place is 25. Am I correct? It's 50,000, then 25, then 20. Okay. Then 15 and then 10.
That is unbelievable. Red bone. Yeah, it's just hard for me to wrap my, my head around that. But anyway. Alright, so Alex, we need to wrap it up here. Yes, sir. What a great show again, Kenny. Give him your number. (740) 508-0056. Call Kenny today, reserve your spot. What a great show. I can't wait to get back out there.
See you at the NWTF Kenny. Uh, we'll probably sell those spots there. I'll be telling people about it. Remember, the [00:40:00] world needs more love, not hate. Teach your boys to become men, your girls to become ladies. And when your roots run deep and strong, there is no reason to fear the wind.
