Series 7 is ready to take flight
We introduce our upcoming series, BatChat, premiering on November 5th. The series will explore the intriguing world of bats while also highlighting wildlife conservation and the amazing people working to conserve them. We conduct field interviews with bat conservationists to gain insights into their efforts and the challenges they face. In this series we'll be speaking to our President Chris Packham, bat workers studying a historical lime kiln in the Yorkshire Dales, an organisation which cares for some of the country's most important roosts and we will also visit a roost in Pembrokeshire which has shed light on how bat pups communicate with their mums. Tune in every other Wednesday to uncover the stories of bats and the individuals dedicated to protecting our natural world.
Please leave us a review or star rating if your podcast app allows it because it helps us to reach a wider audience so that we can spread the word about how great bats are. How to write a podcast review (and why you should).

Bats are magical but misunderstood. At BCT our vision is a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together. Action to protect & conserve bats is having a positive impact on bat populations in the UK. We would not be able to continue our work to protect bats & their habitats without your contribution so if you can please donate. We need your support now more than ever: www.bats.org.uk/donate Thank you!
Chris Packham:
[0:00] Now listen, if you're into those mammals that flit around at night using echolocation to do fascinating things in the dark, that's bats. You might be interested to know that Bat Chat starts on the 5th of November, a new series of the podcast. But rest assured, actually, it's not all about bats. It's about all sorts of things that we love and cherish in our natural environment. So tune in to Bat Chat from the 5th of November.
Steve Roe:
[0:26] Yes, as Chris Packham said just now, we are back with a brand new series where we'll head out into the natural world to interview bat conservationists undertaking their work and getting the latest news and updates from the world of bats.
Steve Roe:
[0:39] Episodes will be released every other Wednesday starting from next week. Here's a sneak peek of what's coming this series:
Guest 1:
[0:45] And we started looking at lime kilns on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and so on. I think there's about 800 in the Yorkshire Dales but this one kiln sort of has it all and it's got bats all year round.
Guest 2:
[0:55] He set about purchasing these beautiful old buildings like the building we can see today and that was the beginning of long and successful story in turning around and reversing the decline in these species.
Guest 3:
[1:13] And he lived in a caravan outside at the archway here where the bats come out. He was probably the UK's first paid bat worker.
Steve Roe:
[1:17] For more of these stories join us from the 5th of November.
