James 5:14-15a
1. A Concern – Vs 14a
“Is anyone among you sick?”
Ø Without Strength Emotionally
Ø Without Strength Spiritually
Ø Without Strength Physically
2. A Call – Vs 14b
“Then he must call for the elders of the church”
Ø They recognize the seriousness of their condition
Ø The request the help of the spiritual leaders of the church
3. A Command – Vs 14c
“And they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil
in the name of the Lord.”
Ø Anoint with oil
- To treat people medically
- To consecrate people or things for or before
the Lord seeking His blessing
- Mark 6:13 – “And they were casting out many demons
and were anointing with oil many sick people and
healing them.”
Ø Ask God to respond mightily to their need
Vs15a – “And the prayer offered in faith will restore
the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up.”
- Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is near the broken hearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
