What are the stories we are told and what are the stories we believe? In most newsrooms across the world there is a morning meeting where reporters discuss the most important stories of the day and which ones to put resources into covering. We live in a time where information comes at us fast. It’s hard to take a breath or know what to trust. Knowledge is power, and when you know better you do better. I want to explore the questions we need to be asking, the stories we need to hear and what exactly is the truth.

The Culture Tree

Anu Sehgal grew up in India and moved to the United States more than 20 years ago. She realized quickly that keeping one’s language skills strong in the melting pot that is America is hard.

Once she became a mother, the lack of quality and authentic Indian programs and classes became even more evident. Sehgal believes an awareness of one’s heritage, culture and language is key for children to become self-aware and confident individuals.

That’s why she started The Culture Tree, a New York based company that offers language and culture classes for students in the city and across the country. The Culture Tree also partners with organizations and museums to bring South Asian culture and languages to the forefront.
