The Rescue of Dude 44B

Dude 44B is the title the United States military used to reference the Weapons Systems Operator, also known as WSO – Dude 44B, that ejected from the F-15E Strike Eagle. The plane was shot down over Iran and 2 days later Dude 44B was miraculously rescued late on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The information I’m sharing about that rescue operation was reported at press conferences presented by General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  If you have not listened to General Caine’s reports, I encourage you to do so. He provides detailed unclassified information about military operations and always expresses pride, gratitude and admiration for military personnel.

Based on the information that was provided by General Caine, there are important spiritual lessons that can be learned from the rescue of WSO – Dude 44B.

He provides detailed unclassified information about military operations and always expresses pride, gratitude and admiration for military personnel.

Based on the information that was provided by General Caine, there are important spiritual lessons that can be learned from the rescue of WSO – Dude 44B.

Reportedly, a vital step in the rescue operation was for the rescuers to be able to establish communication with Dude 44B.  The communication channel established by the United States military had been open for 48 hours but there was complete silence. Nothing was heard. Then finally the military rescuers heard these three words, “God is good.”

For the rescue operation to be successful, it was imperative that the rescuers were able to verify that the person they were communicating with really was Dude 44B. They needed to confirm that they were not communicating with an enemy that had set a trap by establishing fake communication. How could the military rescuers confirm that they had actually made contact and connected with Dude 44B? Great question! This is what was reported by General Caine.

After hearing the words “God is good,” the members of the rescue team that knew Dude 44B immediately identified the speaker they were communicating with was definitely the man they were searching for. It was reported that they knew it was Dude 44B because, to quote the general, “he is a religious man.” In other words, Dude 44 B was identified because he spoke words of faith. Apparently, Dude 44B is known to be a man of faith; his reputation and manner of speaking reflect his faith and belief system. The military rescuers were able to identify Dude 44B by the words that he spoke.

In Luke 6:45 in the New King James translation, Jesus said:

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

That last statement as written in the New Living translation is -

“What you say flows from what is in your heart.”

The Voice translation of Jesus’ words is -

“The heart overflows in the words a person speaks; your words reveal what’s within your heart.”

And here is Luke 6:45 as written in The Passion Translation:

“People are known in this same way. Out of the virtue stored in their hearts, good and upright people will produce good fruit. Likewise, out of the evil hidden in their hearts, evil ones will produce what is evil. For the overflow of what has been stored in your heart will be seen by your fruit and will be heard in your words.”

Those were the words of Jesus. Now let’s take a look at one Old Testament passage on the topic of the spoken word.

Here’s Proverbs 18:21 in the New King James:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

The Message translation of that verse is very clear:

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

Psalm 119:11 is another important verse on this topic. Here it is in the New King James:

“Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”

As it’s written in The Passion Translation:

“I consider your Word to be my greatest treasure, and I treasure it in my heart to keep me from committing sin’s treason against you.”

As Bible believing Christians, it’s important for us to consider the following questions:

§  “What do the words we speak say about the condition of our heart?”

§  “Are the people around us able to identify our faith by the words of our mouth?”

§  “When we speak do our words embrace life or death?”

Here’s a simple prayer that might be helpful moving forward:

I decree and declare that I will purpose to learn, meditate and hide God’s words in my heart so that God’s Word will be so deeply implanted in me that my words will always be words of life that identify me as His child.

The second spiritual lesson I heard from General Caine’s comments about the rescue of Dude 44B was that Dude 44B was alive because of his strong will to live.

As described by the General, Dude 44B was in an extremely challenging situation. His plane was shot down behind enemy lines. When he and his teammate ejected from the plane they were separated. Dude 44B was alone in enemy territory. He was injured. He found himself in a location that was described as rough, mountainous terrain. Additionally, the enemy was actively searching for Dude 44B; they were motivated by the knowledge that they would be richly rewarded for his capture.

Per his military training, Dude 44B had to get himself in the best possible position to be rescued. That meant he had to navigate the mountainous terrain, find a place to hide, tend to his injury and evade capture by the enemy. As stated by General Caine, Dude 44B is alive because he did everything he could do and everything his training prepared him to do to be in the right place at the right time to be rescued. Simply put, Dude 44B chose life.

This is what is written in the scriptures about choosing life. First let’s read from Deuteronomy 30:15-16 in the New Living Translation:

“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. 16 For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.”

And a few verses later in Deuteronomy 30:19-20 also in the New Living Translation, it is written:

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

The word “choice” is written 4 times in these passages along with the phrase “choose life.” I submit to you that Dude 44B made a decision to “choose life.” It was a decision that required action; it undoubtedly required a great deal of effort. But that decision resulted in rescue and life, just as is promised in the scriptures.

Gratefully, you and I do not have to deal with circumstances like these. At this point, I am reminded that we live in the “home of the free because of the brave!” Our appreciation for the military and their families is greater than our ability to express in words! Thank you!

Now let’s focus on what “choose life” means to Christian Believers. Daily we face all kinds of challenges that might include issues with health, finances, relationships, and employment as well as fear, doubt, uncertainty, rejection, hurt, brokenness, sin, addiction, regret, guilt, unforgiveness, bitterness and the list goes on and on. In the midst of whatever it is you are dealing with, whether it is from the past, is happening now or is a worry about the future, the questions before you include these:

§  “Have you made a decision to live life lethargically, to be passive, to quit quietly?”

§  “Are you living your life with a “que sera sera” attitude or a fatalistic belief that life events are completely out of your control and whatever will be will be?”

§  “Have you actually made a conscious decision to choose life?”

Here’s an example of what I’m referencing. In the past few years, my husband has experienced several serious medical issues. With every treatment, Dave has been asked if he already has or is willing to sign a “do-not-resuscitate” form also known as a DNR. Most of you are familiar with this legal and medical document that, when signed, should ensure that end-of-life medical care aligns with the wishes and beliefs of the patient. Under ordinary circumstances, healthcare providers are required to do everything they can to try to save your life.

Every time Dave has been asked to sign a DNR his response has been, “I want to live!” Dave has repeatedly stated his strong desire to live. We understand the purpose of and reason for the DNR. Depending on their beliefs and circumstances, each person can make their own very personal decision about the DNR.        But we also understand the importance of “choosing life.” Dave has chosen life in the midst of some challenging situations, and the result is that Dave is alive today! Hallelujah! He woke up this morning! Dave chose life!

Here’s a simple prayer that might be helpful:

I decree and declare that I will make a conscious decision to choose life and to seek God’s wisdom, will and purpose in every situation, circumstance and decision as directed by His Living Word.

The third spiritual lesson I heard from General Caine’s report on the rescue of Dude 44B was about his attitude regarding the rescue of his teammate, Dude 44a, the pilot.

After his own rescue, General Caine talked about what Dude 44B said about the rescue of his teammate, the pilot known as Dude 4A. General Caine said that Dude 44B expressed great “joy” because his teammate was rescued. Dude 44B was said to have stated that he knew the pilot did not have a survival vest and was only armed with a handgun. He expressed concern for the safety of the pilot. General Caine said Dude 44B expressed exuberant joy when discussing the rescue of his teammate.

This is a clear directive from the Word of God that is found in Romans 12:15. As written in the New King James translation:

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”

The Passion Translation says it like this:

“Celebrate with those who celebrate, and weep with those who grieve.”

As basketball fans from Oklahoma City, my husband and I are enthusiastic fans of Thunder basketball. One of my favorite things about this outstanding team is the way they encourage one another. They passionately cheer for each other. They sincerely encourage one another. The team culture has a strong “next man up” mentality meaning each player is ready and prepared for every opportunity no matter what that might mean for them personally. That results in a “what’s best for the team” mentality while also developing the skills and strengths of each player.

Early this season, one new, young player was diagnosed with cancer. The team including players, coaches, staff and fans supported this player through cancer treatment and the healing process. Now, as the season comes to a close, this player is strong enough to return to the game and has actually been able to play in the NBA play-offs amidst the cheers of encouragement from all those who have supported him through his challenging journey.

Scripture directs us to share in the joys and sorrows of those around us. I think it is especially important as we share life with others in the Body of Christ. As we relate to all those in our sphere of influence, it is vital that we represent Christ by rejoicing and grieving with them.

Here’s a simple prayer that might be helpful:

I decree and declare that as I interact with others in my sphere of influence, I will make a conscious decision to share in their joys and sorrows, to listen with empathy and to minister comfort as directed by Holy Spirt who is The Comforter.

As we conclude this podcase, I want to my express deep gratitude to the United States military and the families that support them. As a nation, our appreciation for you is truly beyond our ability to express. Please know that the intercessors continually pray for your protection and victory!

It’s also important to note that eventually books, movies and other publications will be released that will provide many more details and much more information about this operation. Be on the lookout for even more news about this miraculous rescue!

Finally, let’s review our spiritual thoughts about the rescue mission that brought home the F-15E Strike Eagle crew members and specifically focused on the rescue of Dude 44B. Spiritual insights included the following decrees and declarations:

§  I choose to speak words that reflect the treasures of my heart that are based on the Living Word of God.

§  I make a conscious decision to choose life and purpose in my heart to activate that decision by intentionally choosing words and actions that reflect my choice for life.

§  I choose to share my faith with others by celebrating or grieving with them and by ministering the comfort of the Holy Spirt whenever led to do so.

Let’s close the podcase with these words quoted from Romans 12:11-12 in The Passion Translation.

“Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord, keeping your passion toward him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let him fill you with excitement as you serve him.

Let this hope burst forth within you, releasing a continual joy. Don’t give up in a time of trouble, but commune with God at all times.”

Thank you for listening. We pray that you and your loved ones will walk with Jesus all the days of your lives, and you will continually experience the joy of the abundant life Jesus came to give us. Our prayer for you is found in Numbers 6:24-26:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”

Amen and amen!
