Influencer Entrepreneurs: Marketing Tips to Make You More Visible

What are Brand Values

Jenny Melrose: Business Strategist Episode 438

Ever wondered why some businesses instantly click with audiences while others struggle to make meaningful connections? The answer often lies in something foundational yet frequently overlooked: brand values. These guiding principles form the backbone of your business identity and determine how you show up for your customers, audience, and team.

In this value-packed episode, I break down exactly what brand values are and why they're critical for business growth. Unlike your brand personality (how you present yourself), your values represent the principles guiding every business decision you make. Whether emphasizing trust, loyalty, transparency, or creating a lighthearted atmosphere, these values shape how others perceive and connect with your business.

Strong brand values don't just differentiate you in crowded markets—they attract loyal customers who become raving fans. They help you make strategic decisions about everything from which platforms deserve your time to how many hours you want to work. For entrepreneurs who started businesses to reclaim family time or achieve personal goals, clear values prevent mission drift and burnout.

I share my own journey of building a business with a clear mission: impacting as many young girls as possible by showing them successful women-owned businesses. This vision has guided my content creation and business decisions for years. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your established brand, you'll discover actionable steps to define, implement, and measure your brand values across all aspects of your business.

This is the Influencer Entrepreneur's Podcast with Jenny Monroe, where I strategize with business owners on how to grow and scale their businesses to hit their income goals. This is episode 438 of the Influencer Entrepreneurs Podcast with Jenny Melrose. Today, we are diving into what are brand values. How can you apply them and see your business continue to grow. Now, before we jump into that, I want to make sure that, if you haven't already grabbed our strategic growth guide, that you do so. Just jump right into the description and we will make sure that that is linked there so that you can download it and continue to grow your business, making sure that you are putting in place the right pieces that you need in order to have a business that has a strong foundation and is ready to continue to grow. So let's talk about exactly what are brand values. Exactly what are brand values. Brand values are going to give you the foundation for really being able to stand out in the market. It allows you to determine what values are most important to you and your business, and it is what is going to lay everything moving forward, so that you can determine how you interact with your customers, how you are going to interact with your audience that will become customers, and how you will also interact with your team as you continue to grow. It's going to be important that you have these brand values determined right out of the gate, so that you know what you are trying to emphasize and others in your audience will come to understand what you value most in your business for them to continue to learn from Now, when we are looking at this, you want to make sure that it is shaping the value of your company. What is it that you are trying to make sure that they understand? Now, there is a difference between brand values and your brand personality. We will often see people talking about different things within their lives so that others can connect with them, and that's going to be your personality. Your brand values are more if you are going to place emphasis on loyalty or trust or being as open as possible with them, or if you feel that it should be lighthearted and it should be an easy space for people to be able to communicate with you. Those are all going to be pieces of your brand values that are going to need to come across in your content Now. The reason that we're emphasizing brand values is because we need to know why these are important. Now, having brand values is going to give the ability for your audience to be able to build trust with you, as well as to continue to want to come back with you and create a greater connection. When you have that greater connection, that is where they are likely to want to make a purchase to have the full solution that you are offering. And, in order to do this, when they understand your brand values, that connection will happen much quicker than it would if you were just not even letting them get a glimmer of who you are and what you stand for, what the vision is for your company. So you want to make sure that this is part of the forefront, and it is what you are talking about. It is also going to help you make guided decisions about your brand and your company.

Speaker 1:

Where are you trying to take it? How many hours do you actually want to be continuing to work throughout overtime? How many hours are your employees potentially going to be working? What do you expect to have from this business that you are creating? And even if you are just getting started, it's important that you determine this. Did you start your business so that you could have time back with your family? Are you going to be working 80 hours? If that is the case Now, in the beginning, when you're first getting a new business off the ground, of course you're gonna be putting more hours in.

Speaker 1:

You're likely a solopreneur, but if your idea for your business is so that you have that time back, you have to understand what growth is going to be possible. Where are you looking to put your effort and how are you looking to continue to put your message out there? Do you want to put your effort and how are you looking to continue to put your message out there? Do you want to get on stages? Are you looking to do a YouTube channel? Are you looking to just have Instagram as your form of social media? What is that going to look like for you and where would your audience be? This is going to be really important as you make decisions about what platforms you need to be spending your time on.

Speaker 1:

Are your people actually there Now? It also is going to make sure that it helps you stand out in a competitive industry. When you have your brand values, people automatically will connect with that, because they do understand what you are trying to get across by getting your message out there. So making sure that it is clear for them so that they can easily connect with it is going to be a big piece of this. It is also going to help you attract and keep those loyal customers. Those loyal people that continue to come back to you, those raving fans that want nothing more but to continue to hear from you, because they understand your brand values. They know who you are as a person and as a business. So that is going to be key with this. Now, when we are looking to define our brand values, we want to be looking at the mission of our business. So what is it that you are ultimately trying to?

Speaker 1:

do and I talk about this often because I started my business with the idea that I wanted to be able to impact as many little girls as possible, to see successful women-owned businesses. I wanted those little girls in your lives to see you running a successful business so that they understood it was possible for them, and that has always been part of my mission and vision for my business. So I want you to determine what is the mission, what is the vision that you have for your business. Whether you are helping through play therapy or you are creating quick and easy recipes for parents, what is the ultimate vision that you see for your business?

Speaker 2:

Hey there guys. My name is Melanie from Mostly Under Control, and I am a member of Jenny's Influencer Entrepreneurs Insiders membership. I've been a part of it since 2017, and over these six years I've taken full advantage of the weekly trainings that Jenny offers and the monthly group coaching. The group coaching is probably my favorite part of the membership. Jenny has taught me so many things for my business. She helped me niche down and write and teach about what I wanted so that I wouldn't burn out. In addition to what she teaches, the networking I've done with other members has been invaluable. I recommend her membership to all of my online business owner friends because they're it is worth every single penny.

Speaker 1:

You also want to make sure, when you are talking about your brand values, that you understand your audience. What are they going to be looking for? What are they going to look to connect with If you have a laid back, lighthearted kind of attitude with them, is that what they're going to connect with? Or are they looking for someone that is more trustworthy, that maybe might be a bit more professional, isn't going to use any sort of profanity? If that is part of what your audience is looking for, then it shouldn't be included in the way that you portray yourself and your brand values. So making sure that that is a big piece of it. Brand values so making sure that that is a big piece of it. You also want to identify your core beliefs. You want to make sure that you choose ones that are actionable and authentic to you. One of the biggest core values to me is trust and loyalty. I am the type of person that will lay down in traffic for those that I trust, and I would like to think that my audience understands that I would do that for them. I want them to know that I am going to fight their battles for them. I am going to continue to put out content that helps them gain momentum in their business, so that they can get the time back in order to be able to spend it how they want to, whether that's with their family, whether it's taking care of themselves whatever that it may look like for them, it's going to be a key piece of it. You also want to make sure that you refine and prioritize this. Over time, your brand values may change. You may find that your audience shifts. You may find that you pivot entirely from the content that you are creating. So it's really important that, if you do so, you make sure that you refine what your brand values are and make sure that you are portraying that in the content that you are creating, whether it is through social media, video, podcast or website. You want to make sure that those brand values are refined over time as you continue to grow as a business owner. So what we want to be able to do is how we can actually take these, integrate them brand values into our business. So we're going to be making sure that, when we are looking at these brand values, that they are embedded into the content that we are creating, the way that we talk about what the problems that we solve for our audience. It will provide an opportunity for your audience to see how you plan to move forward and impact them with the content that you are creating. When you do this, it helps them understand those brand values. You also want to make sure that you are using those values in your marketing and your messaging. It should come across easily.

Speaker 1:

You will often hear me talking about my vision for my business and helping the young girls be able to see successful business owners. You've probably heard that a couple different times if you've been following me long enough. I continue to say this because it is a big piece of why I do what I do and the reason that I shifted over the years from making sure that it was very clear that I was trying to make you be able to understand how you can market yourself and to be able to get time back for yourself as well as for your family. You also want to make sure that you are applying these values into the decisions that you are making when you deal with people. As far as your audience or customers, when they have purchased a product or service, you want them to see that trust, loyalty, honesty any of your brand values come across in the decisions that you're making. So, if someone isn't happy with a product or service, how are you letting them know that those brand values are emphasized within it? And it's going to need to be clear in the copy that you write on your website, as well as any of the copy that you're using in descriptions of podcast episodes, youtube videos or social media content. All of that needs to be coming across in the content that you create.

Speaker 1:

The last piece of how you're going to be able to do this is you want to make sure that your brand values are going to be measured and you're held accountable to it. How are you making sure that your people understand that your brand values are a huge piece of what you are doing? Are they seeing it? Are they able to have that accountability to you, to know that you are actually making sure that those brand values are within your content? As always, I appreciate you so much for listening in. If you haven't already left a rating and review, I would appreciate it. If you did so. You can just hit those five stars, or however many stars you want to give, and leave me a quick rating.
