Ever feel like you’re building in a vacuum while the people closest to you don’t quite understand what you do? We dig into why environment outperforms motivation and how carefully choosing your “power five” can change the trajectory of your business. Rather than grinding harder alone, we map out how to engineer a circle that elevates your beliefs, sharpens accountability, and gives you the shared energy that makes hard goals feel doable.

We break down the law of averages in practical terms and explore the three big transfers that happen in any group: beliefs, accountability, and momentum. You’ll hear the roles to include—an encourager who keeps your courage intact, a collaborator who shares tactics and opens doors, and an expander who sits a few steps ahead and normalizes your next level. Instead of chasing status, we show why complementary strengths matter more: email strategy from one person, YouTube growth from another, keyword research from a third, podcast audience building from a fourth. That mix becomes a composite mentor, and it beats any single playbook.

Isolation has hidden costs: dwindling inspiration, slower feedback, and missed opportunities. We share how to avoid the isolation loop, why no one scales alone, and how to leverage second‑degree networks for partnerships, list growth, and faster iteration across any niche. If you’ve been thinking, “No one gets my business,” this conversation gives you a blueprint to find the right rooms and make progress feel inevitable.

If you want structured accountability and a curated circle that pushes you forward, apply to our mastermind and let’s take your business to the next level. Subscribe, share this with a founder who needs a stronger circle, and leave a review to help more builders find the show.

Your environment is shaping you more than your goals, your habits, or even your motivation. So who are you surrounding yourself with? And are they the right people? Do you ever feel like you're the only one that gets it when it comes to your business? The people that you surround yourself with, your friends, your family, they don't quite understand what it is that you are doing. It is very likely that you need to surround yourself and have an inner circle of people that are going to understand what it is that you're going through and how you are trying to get there. Too often I have watched clients struggle because they don't have anyone in their life that is actually understanding their business. And I personally went through this after being a teacher for years. My family thought I was insane when I decided to retire from teaching in order to run an online business. And for them, it was very difficult to know where I was trying to go. But I had the support of others that were in similar businesses like myself to know that this is something that I could see myself doing and continue to grow for others by educating them on what their business could potentially bring them in their strategies and for their families as their business continue to grow. As a psych major in college, I learned the law of averages. And the law of averages simply states that you are the average of the five people that you surround yourself with. And there are three specific things that you will actually end up pulling from these other five people. The first is going to be your beliefs. It is very likely that you are going to potentially be influenced by others' beliefs in what they see themselves potentially being able to do, whether it is personal or business related. As you surround yourself with those five people, you are likely to take on some of their beliefs. And if their beliefs are lowered than potentially yours, you're going to lower your standards. The second is going to be the accountability that that group can provide. Accountability is one of the key things that can help a business owner be able to actually hit the goals that they set for themselves. Because when someone else is holding you accountable to what you have said you are going to do, you're much more likely to actually do it. So if you surround yourself with people that are going to hold you accountable, it is likely that those goals are actually going to come to fruition. Whereas if you surround yourself with people that really don't care, the accountability isn't going to be there and you're going to be less likely able to hit those goals. The third is going to be the shared energy and momentum that comes from that group. If you are surrounding with your people that get excited and have a zest for their business or for their life, that momentum that they are pushing out into the universe is also going to be contagious to you in your business and life. If you surround yourself with people that are more in lackluster or problematic in their thinking, it is likely that you're going to be brought down to that level as well. So it's really important that when we're looking at surrounding ourselves with people that are going to help build this up, that we choose people that are going to not only match us, but push us forward in the way that they think and the beliefs that and accountability that they can provide for you as well as for themselves. There are hidden costs to isolation. And that is often what happens if you put yourself not wanting to have a circle of people, not trying to take advantage of the law of averages. When we are isolating ourselves and solely relying on ourselves to be able to grow our businesses, there's an isolation loop that ends up happening. We will no longer feel that inspired. Who are you going to surround yourself with in order to avoid that isolation? Many business owners often believe that going it alone is one of the best ways to do it because no one else understands, or no one else is going to be able to do exactly what I'm doing. We think that our niche is so specific that no one's going to understand the growth and strategies that need to be put in place in order for anything to improve within our business. And this is so far from the truth. No matter what your niche is, there is someone out there that is running a business that is somewhat similar to you, and you can always benefit from understanding how others are running their businesses. It's really important that we understand that no one builds a thriving business on their own. We constantly need to be hearing how others are putting strategies in place, as well as gaining from their excitement, their momentum that they have and feel. Plus, being able to have that accountability can make all the difference when we're trying to grow our own businesses. It's important that when you are trying to surround yourself with people, that you start to think about the types of people that you want within a group of those five that we talked about for the law of averages. You want someone that is an encourager. They're your cheerleader. They're always going to find that you are doing something positive. You also want a collaborator who not only is going to willingly offer up the strategies that they are using, but also potentially can introduce you to others that within their own network that could connect you in order to grow your audience and understand strategies that are working for others outside of your niche or outside of the circle that you are creating. And the third one that you're going to want is an expander. An expander is someone that's a couple steps ahead of you. We don't always want to all be at the same level. We want some that are going to be at a little bit of a higher level, some that might be a little bit lower, and some that are right at our level. Now, here's the great thing when you are actually creating this circle that you are trying to provide for yourself is that it's often found that when we're looking at expanders, it's not simply just that their business is bigger and there are three steps ahead for that. Often it's the strategies that they are putting in place that each person could have a particular strength that ends up putting them ahead. So, for example, in a group of five, you may have someone that's really strong with email, while another is really strong with YouTube, while another is really strong with keyword research and another with their podcast. So that you can learn from every single one of those people because they have their own strengths. So when a group comes together, it's not simply about making sure that that per every person is ahead of you. It's more thinking about the strengths that you bring to the table as well as they do in order to continue to grow your business. Your growth within your collective group is a sense of community. Not only do you have the ability to be able to connect with them, but you also then are able to connect with those within their own network. So that if you are trying to grow your email list and one of the group members doesn't quite have the right audience for you, they may have someone within their network that is the right fit. So it's really important that when you are growing this group, that you start to think not only of who is within this group that can help you, but the potential network that they have outside of that group that can be combined to have that transformative group. Now, if you are someone thinking, I don't know where to go to surround myself with the right people. I don't know how to find people that are in online business that could potentially be two steps ahead of me. Well, that's where my mastermind program comes in. My mastermind program is one of my favorite programs because the transformations that happen and the relationships that are built are tremendously important, not only to the business growth, but to the personal growth of those people.
