Your business doesn’t just need a strategy, it needs you at your best. When we ignore our bodies, we pay for it with low energy, short patience, messy focus, and nights where our brains refuse to shut off. I’m sharing what’s been sitting heavy on my heart: if we want to run our businesses and care for our families, we have to take care of ourselves first. 

I talk through what daily movement looks like in real life and how it can change over time without losing the thread of consistency. Whether you love lifting weights, yoga, Pilates, a spin bike, or a simple walk outside, the goal is the same: move your body often enough that you feel the mental benefits. For me, morning workouts became the anchor, and even walking the dogs is part of staying active most days. This is entrepreneur wellness without perfection and without guilt. 

We also get honest about sleep and hormones. If you’re dealing with perimenopause symptoms, shifting hormones, or the frustration of not being taken seriously by a doctor, you’re not alone. I share why it matters to advocate for yourself, talk with people who have found helpful care, and keep experimenting until you find what works for your body.

Self-Care As A Business Owner

One of the most important things you can do for yourself as a business owner is to take care of yourself. And this is not only mentally for mindset, but also physically. Many of you have probably heard me talk about the fact that I played college sports. I was a field hockey and basketball player in college and played three sports in high school. I was always very active. In my 20s, I ran a marathon to lose a bunch of weight so that I could get pregnant, and then of course lost too much weight and couldn't get pregnant. Um, and I've since, of course, I have two daughters now, and since having the girls before, actually after I turned 40, I ran a half marathon. I've always tried to be physically active, and believe me, I have had my ups and my downs with how well I am taking care of myself physically, whether it's because I'm eating like crap or that my hormones have now changed and the way the things that I could or used to be able to eat, I no longer can. But one of the things that I really try to make sure that I do is that I'm active every day, Monday through Sunday. Some Sundays, yes, I will definitely sit on the couch and just watch football all day when it's during football season, but I definitely try to be active at least six days a week. And it's changed. My routine over the years has definitely changed as far as what I'm going to do. But what has remained consistent probably for the past, I would say almost five years, is I work out every single morning. When the girls were little, I used to wait to work out till they had already left and gone to school. Now that they're older and they don't need me to get them moving in the morning, I do it right before they get up and as they are getting themselves ready for school. And that routine has definitely changed. I also make sure that I walk my dogs every day because they will lose their minds if they don't get to go, which they're presently doing because it's raining outside. But finding some way to be active, whether it is yoga, Pilates, lifting weights, um, walking on the treadmill, walking outside, getting on a spin bike, just finding a way to physically take care of yourself. Because when you physically take care of yourself, you feel better mentally. You're not as exhausted, your mind doesn't run as much. It's easier to fall asleep at night, which is also a huge piece of how you have to take care of yourself, is making sure you are getting enough sleep and not letting your mind race. Now, some of you are probably going through different changes with your potentially your hormones and how you sleep and how you feel. And as someone that has been going through it for a couple years now, and it can be very frustrating when the doctors won't listen to you because they try to tell you that you're too young when you're really not. But have those conversations. Try to figure out the best ways to take care of yourself. Talk to your people that are getting help, that do have doctors that are listening to them when it comes to their hormones, and find ways it can work for you. Um, and just try to navigate those changes. It's not always going to be easy, and you probably can hear it in my voice. This is an easy time for me right now, trying to figure out it because it's my hormones are not allowing me to sleep anymore, which is never a good thing for me. So I really wanted to share this episode because it's heavy, it's on my heart. I want us to remember that in order for us to be able to run our businesses and also take care of our families, we have to take care of ourselves first. And that has to start with physically, health-wise, so that mentally the rest can come behind it. So if you are not already finding a way to be active, I want to challenge you to be active for a minimum of 15 to 30 minutes a day. Minimum. Okay. Just get outside, be in nature, find a way to get moving.
