Email Opt-Ins That Actually Work
This episode is only available to subscribers.

Exclusive access to premium content!Your email list won’t grow consistently if your opt-in feels random. We talk through a simple idea that changes everything: the best lead magnet is the one that fits your content so well you can mention it without forcing it. When the free offer connects to what you’re already teaching, your call to action stops sounding like an ad and starts sounding like the next helpful step.
We share a real client story that starts with a problem a lot of creators hit: the “same guide as everyone else” trap. The solution wasn’t louder promotion or more posts. It was a better-matched opt-in. We explain how a niche quiz can create instant curiosity, make your podcast marketing feel seamless, and guide listeners into an email nurture sequence that actually teaches. Along the way, we break down how a quiz can segment subscribers, personalize follow-up emails, and set up a clear path from free value to a smaller paid offer and then into higher-ticket services.
If you’re building a podcast, course, coaching business, or service-based brand, you’ll walk away with a practical framework for lead magnet alignment, email list building, and conversion-focused content strategy. Listen, borrow the approach, and then make it your own. If this helps, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s stuck on list growth, and leave a review so more creators can find the show.
Why Email Lists Still Matter
JennyOne of the most important things that you can do for your business is to grow your email list. We've been talking about this for years. And one of the ways in which to grow your list that we have routinely talked about is the fact that you need to have something that is valuable for someone to give you their email address. And you have to be able to talk about whatever it is that you're offering naturally within all of your content. So that if you are doing a podcast episode, it needs to naturally connect to that podcast episode. So if it's something that's kind of a little off to left field or a little off to right field and doesn't really make any sense, then that's going to be a problem. So one of my clients recently came to me after having worked with me one-on-one and is now in a mastermind group. And when she worked with me one-on-one, we talked about this idea of having an opt-in that was connected. And her opt-in was connected to her product or services that she was going to offer. It was the obvious next step was the service or product, which is fabulous. But it was becoming difficult. It seemed like everyone else had that same exact guide that she was offering. So I had reached out to her and said, Listen, you are naturally talking about specific things on your podcast. You need to find a way to connect it to that. So she came to me in her last mastermind and said, What do you think about the idea of a quiz? And this quiz was very specific and niche to her audience so that she could naturally take them on a journey once they were done taking this quiz to educate them and then offer a smaller product that was still themed and niched, but would then be able to go to the larger products and services that she was being offered. The quiz made so much sense. It naturally was connecting to everything that she was doing. So her podcast, like I said, is very niched and themed. So she was able to naturally just say, hey, don't forget to take the quiz that is going to tell you about which character you represent from these episodes. And if you're wondering what exactly I'm talking about, it is the Fifty Shades of Gray podcast. And she uses Gray's Anatomy episodes in order to discuss the type of relationships that the characters had so that she can teach her audience how to grow their own relationships to not do the things that some of the characters were doing. So the quiz allows her audience to opt in to be able to take it. So she's growing her list, and it then identifies which character they are most like based upon their quiz answers, and then educates them through email on how to improve upon the type of character that they are to become to be able to have better relationships. And then she offers a course that is lower cost and is going to give them some of those skills that they may not know how to put into practice on their own. So you can see how it's very simple for a podcast that is themed towards talking about Gray's Anatomy to say, hey, don't forget to take the quiz to figure out which Gray's Anatomy character you are most like. It just makes so much sense. You have to find a way that you're going to be able to talk about your opt in, what you're going to offer in exchange for their email within your content. Once you can do this, it becomes natural and you will see your list continue to grow.
