When putting together a coaching recipe for the workplace, there are really three main elements. First of all, there are ingredients, and there are two types of ingredients. There are types of coaching, and then there are techniques of coaching, and I'll cover each one of those. And then we take those types and those techniques within the ingredients and we create a recipe. We mix it together for a well-formulated plan. And then we provide special sauces. What are those little additional things that we can do to really support the ingredients and the mixture into this great recipe? Now I'm going to talk to you about creating a really collaborative

team. Now we teach something called the four C's of teamwork. The four C's are connection, commonality, collaboration, and commonality or conflict. So number one, getting people together, finding out who they are, connecting with them, commonality, finding out what their hobbies are. And we do this in a peer-to-peer group coaching format. We break people in groups of two. That's the ingredient. And then number three, we ask people to share how do they like to work with people

so people have context of how people should collaborate with one another on an individual basis. And then number four, we have them share what's the relationship with conflict. Now I'm very comfortable with conflict. So if I get together with, let's say, Lisa, who says, I hate conflict, I know to be more empathetic and sensitive with Lisa. So that's an ingredient. It's a four-step process done in a group coaching. Within the group coaching, there's peer-to-peer activities. Okay. The techniques are asking questions, such as, what did you learn about your partner? What did you have in common with your partner? How many of you have with collaboration, you like to work in an independent environment versus a team environment? Raise your hand. Conflict. How many of you raise your hand that you just you fear conflict? You don't want to have it. And hands go up. And what happens is it creates this element of teamwork.

Then the recipe is mixing this together. Now that's a four-session process that we do that you can do repeatedly on a quarterly basis, switching partners, always building context and commonality. See where there's context and commonality, guess what happens? People tend to collaborate together. Then guess what happens when conflict occurs? It's dissipated because we have context and we know what we have in common with each other. Now, people will often fight this when they first hear about it. And I say, think about it. If I know who you are and that you have three kids and you just moved here and that you also coached volleyball, wouldn't you and I be in a better position

to have conflict if we didn't have that understanding of each other? Of course. The special sauces. Start off your staff meetings with, let's go around the table. And I want you to say two positive things about the person to your right, something that they've done to contribute to the team in the last 30 to 60 days that maybe not all of us know about it. And you get people talking positively about each other. Number two, have people read books like Who Moved My Cheese or My Iceberg is Melting by John Cotter, which talks about change and certainly elements of teamwork. Now think about that. The four-part session is 30 minutes, two

hours total. You can do it over the course of one to two months. You bring that together in a recipe, group coaching, peer-to-peer. You have some questions, there's activities within those sessions. And then outside those sessions, you can have what are called a supplemental coaching, reading a book, watching a video, starting off staff meetings. And so when you have those things in those special sauces of just starting off staff meetings by saying nice things about each other, what does it do? It puts people in a proper frame of mind to what? Not argue and be arduous with each other. It's as simple as that. So when you're putting together a coaching recipe, first think about the ingredients. What type of coaching are you going to use? What are the techniques you're going to use? What questions are you going to ask? What activities are you going to facilitate? What's the learning project between the sessions? Such as next week come in with two examples. See, when you understand the types of coaching and the techniques afforded to you, building recipes for workplace coaching success is really easy. The special sauces can be as simple as putting a note in someone's desk. Starting off a meeting with positive accolades around one another. It can

be as simple as that. Calling people into the office and having your boss there only to praise them. And oh, by the way, you're not just talking to one person. That secret sauce gets the whole team talking. So give us your topics. We'll build you a recipe. We'll even cover in one of our episodes of the coaching school. Thanks for your time.
