Attention Musician Friends!!!!! Colleague, Musician, Talent Manager and Entertainment Lawyer Randy Ojeda stopped by the podcast today. I am super jelly of Randy because he has the temerity to be a talent manager/entertainment lawyer outside of LA, New York, Nashville...but that's because he loves and believes in the deep and rich stable of amazing musicians in our fair city. After doing it for 10 years after law school Chicago he moved back hone to Tampa, got his bar license and started his law practice Randy Ojeda Law helping local and national artists with management, Intellectual Property and anything else our music community. Trust me when I say he's the real deal. He's a music nerd, an honest person who loves music and brilliant attorney. I highly recommend Randy to anyone looking for help in entertainment law or management.
On today's show we switch it up...guest host Michael M. Sinclair interviewed me! Normally I try to write some eloquent, celebratory and heartfelt thing about the guest(s)...but it's me, so fuck that guy. Anyway, it was nice to be in the hot seat and get a sense of what it's like for the guests. We talk about music throughout my life, how I ended up in law, anxiety & depression, my family, how the podcast came about and what song would play over the credits of a hypothetical biopic about my life!
Excited to have behavioral psychologist, Dr. Joseph Saturley back on Barely Legal Podcast today to discuss House Bill 1557 which "prohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in certain grade levels".
If you have any questions you'd like me to ask him, message me and I'll do my best. Happy to keep them anonymous.

Honored to have Shae & Derek from Navin Avenue on the show today. Such sweet, gracious and talented people....not to mention how they met might be the coolest story I have ever heard. We talk about Country music, the songwriting process, concept albums and whether you're more likely to be murdered by Jandek or Adele.
Big day on the pod, we had Mike and John from Pet Rock on the show. We discuss the meaning of pop punk, 7th chords and literally and figuratively "finding your voice". John Looz is a dynamo and Mike Raimondi is the only guy who loves John Frusciante more than I do. Check out their new track 'Come Around' on this episode!
If you know who he is, you know what an act of God it is to get him to talk, much less talk about himself. Will Quinlan is brilliant, he's thoughtful, soft spoken, he's heavy hearted...I'm not sure I've ever met someone quite like him. We talk about family, Irish Weather, Jackson Browne and learning to forgive ourselves. This was a quiet and introspective one but I suspect anyone who knows Will or is a fan will find it riveting. We transcended time and space on this one and made it to the 4th corner of the triangle. Stay tuned!
Pretty excited to break in new studio with Matt, Dan & Scott from HGWT tonight. We'll be discussing their new album, Neil Young, Spotify, gear and whether Pink Flag or Marquee Moon is the better album.
We may have even had a kick flip session in the parking lot...stay tuned!
Friend of the show, thinker, writer, bartender, owner of Gracie Trinity and rea life Patrick Swayze, Kevin Gallagher stopped by the studios today to talk about getting older, fighting city hall, the powers that be and how he keeps Jiu Jitsu interesting while pushing 50. Kevin always has something to say and I'll always be here for it. Stay tuned!
It's been a minute since I did a show, but what a way to start 2022! Got to talk to Rena Upshaw Frazier from the hit Netflix show "Selling Tampa" today and it was a blast. As fellow Stetson College of Law and Stetson Trial Team alumni, we discussed our time in the trenches and where it led us, Rena on national TV and me finishing off a bag of Cheetos while I try look for my car keys (I kid I kid). Anyway, we talked about her history, politics, the TV show and the current market in the Tampa Bay Area. Great talk!
F Dos Equis! This is The Most Interesting Man In The World, Dan Zalewski. Making a pit stop back in Tampa on his way from Thailand to Kenya, my old Khanomtom Tampa Muay Thai buddy stopped by to talk about growing up in the Netherlands, dropping out of high school only to join the air force and obtaining 2 graduate and a Masters Degree. We talk about Ethical Finance, aging gracefully in Combat Sports, Black Swan Events, his path to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and learning Swahili. He and I have chosen very different life paths but I've always enjoyed following his adventures. This is just a good conversation between yours truly and an honest to goodness superhero.
Christian Lembach from Atlanta's WHORES stopped in today to discuss gear, drummers, recording their new album and their upcoming insane world tour. Super rad guy and an easy guy to talk to. Hope to have this up early next week and their album should be coming out relatively soon.
Joey Kiser is an amazing young man and I'm super jealous of both his musical talent and the relationship he has with his dad, Joe Kiser. In fact they make up 2/4 of Tampa sludge/doom metal outfit The Path - FL. We talk our shared love of drummers, Gibson Flying Vs, Mastodon and the almighty Neurosis. This kid has a big future ahead of him and I'm here for it. Listen to our chat and come see The Path and Dead Mirrors tomorrow night at Shuffle. A high five may get you a free beer!
I love this guy's voice and his band Dead Mirrors is on heavy rotation in my car and at work. Jeremy Shiflet is a soft spoken, low key dude with the voice of a demon. Dead Mirrors new album "And He Became The System" is a call to arms and just an all around work of art. Come hang out with me next Friday at Shuffle and watch Dead Mirrors and The Path - FL rattle some windows. It's gonna be a lot of fun!!
If you aren't listening to MrENC you aren't livin! Creator, leader, songwriter Eric Collins virtually stopped by today to discuss the center of the musical universe, Lakeland, and how he scratches his artistic itch while holding down a healthy family life. We talk UFOs, My Little Pony, Christian Rock, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure and more. Eric is ridiculously talented and a unique voice in the scene and I guarantee you'll love them if you give them a listen...they're every bit as rad as anyone out there.

Psych Montano on the show tonight and let me tell ya....he's got the goods. Everyone I play his latest release Mansion Music can't believe this is a local guy. His last album Psych 101 is just as rad. It doesn't hurt that he's a super smart, down to earth dude as well. Cool me a huge fan of his. Check out his music on all streaming services, catch him live and wait for his masterpiece coming 2023. He's destined for big things!

Oh what might have been...for minute I was in talks with Steve Cee to work bass for Rath & The Wise Guys but sadly things didn't pan out. Luckily Steve found someone who actually can play bass and has a rad punk band that's playing weekly everywhere and has already put out an EP and single. Steve spilled his guts about coming up in Virginia Beach and false starts along the way to things finally gelling in Florida. Steve is passionate about music and lives it. Great dude, fun talk!
THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT!!!
Three things I learned talking to today's guest and democratic candidate for State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit for Pinellas/Pasco, Allison Miller.
1. According to Florida Department of Corrections, Pinellas/Pasco counties (the 6th circuit) send more people to prison than any other circuit in Florida.
2. A Democrat hasn't run for State Attorney in Pinellas/Pasco since 1964.
3. Allison's opponent and current State Attorney for Pinellas/Pasco, Bruce Bartlett, was recently quoted as saying "One of the things that has made this office so effective is the lack of change".
Now how you feel about these facts may inform how you vote. I used to work for Bruce Bartlett, I like Bruce Bartlett and I'm hoping he'll come on the show to discuss his view. That said, my politics are no secret, we have never had a female state attorney and I am a big fan of change. A lot of my colleagues are nervous to speak publicly about this race for fear of how it may impact their practice. I'm not that smart. I'm not gonna tell anyone how to vote, but I'm going to ask that you listen to this podcast and hopefully Bruce's if he agrees to do it.
This one is important folks...expect a quiz
It's that time again when we start picking our judges! On today's show we had Pinellas County Public Defender David Moran on to talk about his life in basketball, his family ties to one of the most famous watering holes in St. Pete and his depth and breadth of experience as a Public Defender and in Private Practice over the past 17 years. I often opine on all the nefarious reasons a person might run for judge...In Dave's case, I think he's doing it to help impact peoples lives in a positive way. Stayed tuned for more local nominees!
Them Henderson kids are purty! If you've not had the good fortune to see the Zutesmas concert every Saturday before Christmas at Crowbar (and before that Gaspar's Grotto) do yourself a favor this Christmas and go. I've been to a squillion shows and The Zutes are by a wide margin the most fun. Matt Henderson, the unofficial leader of band, has been the ring leader of this ode to a fallen friend playing everything from Billy Joel to Fleetwood Mac to Coolio to Mastodon. But that's not all, he's a prolific musician (check out his band wicked surf punk band "Moonthing"), a Father/Husband and brilliant political commentator. Attorney friends may also recognize him as brother to equally good looking attorney, Greg Henderson. Love this guy and you will too.
You guys still there? It's been a minute since we've put up a show but what better way to dip our toe in the water then with Kyle Weidner from one of the pod's favorite bands...Wreath!!! Kyle too (like Eliot Mayo) is a musical encyclopedia and is a wild man on the drums. His diversity of tastes, projects and influences made for a rad conversation ranging from the Allman Brothers to the Cure to Repulsion. Kyle is rad guy and this was a fun chat.
Nikki was great! Tom is the coolest!
We discussed our schools, Trump, DeSantis, our teachers, COVID, our AG, Live Music, marijuana policy and Nikki even gives my 7 year old daughter Stella some tips on how she too can break through the various glass ceilings that lay ahead.
She's awesome!
Meet Nikki Fried.
The only Democrat to win statewide in Florida since 2012, Nikki Fried has served as our Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services since 2018. Before taking office, Nikki spent her career as public defender fighting for justice and giving a voice to the voiceless. A longtime advocate for criminal justice reform and marijuana legalization, Nikki saw the devastating impact of injustice within our criminal justice system. As an attorney, she defended homeowners and stood up to the big banks during the foreclosure crisis, helped secure resources for children in the foster care system, and advocated for medical marijuana.
Stand Up Comedian, fellow podcast enthusiast and Marketing Wizard, Law Smith, stopped by the show last night to take down a couple of brews, discuss growing up in the shadow of his father, his early days on the comedy circuit, going for it in LA, fatherhood, divorce, principles of entrepreneurship and I go down a rabbit hole about how funny a certain drug is that Stevie Nicks owes her career to. In any event, should drop tomorrow....check it out and check out Law's podcast!
This guy absolutely blew me away Friday night and I was super stoked he agreed to come on tonight on short notice. Laith Abdel of I and I, Throat Puncher, Nude Tayne, Highway Advisory Radio and Mindwash was on the show tonight. I said this before but imagine if Freddie Mercury and Henry Rollins had a baby who sang for The Mars Volta...that'll only kind of give you some idea of what this guy can do. Great guy, super talented!
2020 was the year of Horsewhip and Yashira for me, so to say I'm star struck by today's guest is a bit of an understatement. Alex Bond is an absolute god on the kit and Horsewhip's epic two albums are on heavy rotation in the office. We chatted about his early days in Indianapolis, Motley Crüe, what brought him to the Sunshine State, the early days in Horsewhip and what the future holds. We also killed some beer from Magnanimous.
Comedian and Tampa native, Boomer Nichols stopped by (with his boy Scottie) today to kickoff his birthday weekend. We talked about growing up with Joey Redner and Bert Kreischer, his early days in comedy to opening for Bryan Callen and Tom Segura, and whether Eddie Murphy's comeback will land. Always interesting and always a good time, you can see Boomer at JTs Roadhouse tonight (yes there's a story there).
