I had the opportunity to talk to Shehla and I have to admit that it has been one of the interviews where I have learned the most.
Shehla opened up about the challenges of being a Muslim in the USA, the stereotypes that have affected her and how she uses her podcast “I’m a Muslim and that’s ok” to teach others about her experiences.
We talked about common misconceptions about Muslims, the hardest topics she has had to address in her podcast and the importance of seeing people as individuals rather than a collective in order to avoid racism and biases.
Shehla shared important advice: Reach out. Create community. Ask for help. Connect with other immigrants that have been through similar situations.
