How come some physician entrepreneurs hit seven figures, while others plateau?

This is a question I get all the time, and it’s such an important one to unpack because the answer often lies in something most people overlook: high-quality, transformational events. Yes, you heard that right, events.

Events are non-negotiables if you're serious about building a business that grows, scales, and gives you the freedom you dreamed of when you started.

That's why, in this episode, I’m sharing why events are the secret weapon of high-achieving doctors, and breaking down the five reasons why the right event will give you community, mentorship, real-time transformation, mental breakthroughs, and yes, good old-fashioned fun.

SPEAKER_00:

When I show up for these events, I'm gonna walk away a different person. I'm going to have mindset ships, acquire new habits, I'm going to be more aware of obstacles that have stalked me. I am going to see simple pathways for me to accomplish what I need to accomplish. I'm going to make connections. It's happening in real time. Hi dogs. Welcome to the OnTraMD podcast, where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms. I'm your host, Dr. Inna. Well, at the time of this recording, it's a few days before the Entre MD Business School Vision Retreat. And I am so excited for the doctors who are coming because I know what happens at events. And so I decided to come today to talk to you about the reason why seven-figure physician entrepreneurs prioritize high-quality events, okay? Which the EntreMD Business School Vision Retreat is one of them. And so, you know, I was going over, you know, the data, you know, they're filling out their registrations and stuff. So we have about 70% of the room of the doctors who are coming in have filled out their stuff. And it's very interesting because, you know, looking at it here, I see that 11% of the people in the room are people who've been in the business school since 2020, 14% since 2021, 14% since 2022, 20% since 2023, 17% since 2024, and then 22% from 2025, which is very impressive. Like it's a fairly even-ish spread, right? But really nice to see that there are people who've been coming. This is going to be our fifth vision retreat, and we have people who've been coming since 2020. And there's a reason why, right? There's a reason why. So anyway, I just wanted to talk about it because I discovered events, and ever since I did, it's something that I've done. It's something that I've added as part of my personal development. And it's not even so much personal development as it is an opportunity for me to experience a quantum leap. It's an opportunity for me to experience a big shift in my business, in my life, and all of those things, right? So the vision retreat is something we do in October. And we do it in October because I start my new year in October. And I want my clients and mentees and everyone else to start in October as well. And there are a number of reasons for that. You know, one is the things that you do in the fourth quarter of the year are the things that determine what the first quarter of the year looks like. And so a lot of people would be distracted and, you know, burnt out and not feeling like doing anything for October, November, December, or celebrating the entire, you know, 90-day block. And of course we wouldn't celebrate, right? But it is a holiday, right? Not a holida quarter. And so when they come in the first quarter of the year, January, February, March, they're wondering like, what in the world is going on with my business, right? But the results in business typically lag by 90 days thereabouts, right? And so there's just nothing to be had because there's nothing that was done. So that's one of the reasons, right? The other reason is, you know, there's Halloween in October, there is Thanksgiving in November, and there is Christmas and the other holidays in December. And so the sheer amount of distraction, right, is just unbelievable. And so what I do is I set my goals for the new year at the end of September, October, and then I start practicing. I treat Q4 like I'm practicing for 2026, right? For that whole year. And in doing that, I end the year in the strongest way. Like I finish really strong, and then I start with the bank, right? And I've practiced. And so January 1st, I'm ready to hit the ground running. It's like just so amazing. Okay. So that's why we do that. We have the vision retreat. And it's one of my favorite events because here we're not just doing business goals, we're doing life goals, like all nine areas of life, business goals, and we're working in real time. So you're creating the goals, you're creating the calendar that will support the goals, you're creating the habits that will support the goals, and all that is just unbelievably amazing. Okay. So that's coming up in a few days. And I know we have created what will be a radically transformative experience for the doctors in the entree and business school. And I can't, I really can't wait. Like I'm so excited about it. Here are the reasons why. Okay. The first reason is community. The first reason is community. And this depends on the people in the room, right? And so, for instance, the entree-MD business school vision retreat, you're talking about doctors who are launching businesses, growing businesses, anywhere from launch till 9 million in revenue, people who have done cross seven figures as, you know, people who are running direct specialty care practices or insurance-based practices or created courses or, you know, like any of those kinds of things. And they're there in the room, right? People have spoken on the biggest stages, right? They're there in the room. People who are on all kinds of boards. And it's just so wild. And, you know, sometimes people are so bent on the, you know, like hell bent on the content. And the content has to be good. It has to be really good. We're going to talk about that in a second. But here's the deal: your the transformation you get from your content can be no more than the transformation you get from being in the right room, like just being in the room, even if there was no content, the level of transformation, if you know what to do in the room, right? And so, of course, when the people come for the vision retreat, I'm gonna like, this is not the time to lurk. This is not the time to hide. If you're an introvert, so am I. Let's just introvert together. This is gonna be okay. But this is where you talk to strangers, this is where you have conversations, this is where you pay attention to what is working for other people. You notice the mindsets of other people who are where you want to be. You notice their habits, you notice all of these things. There's so much you can learn because, like, we have over 50 people coming, 50 doctors coming from all over the United States and Canada. And to just imagine, right, that you're going to be in a room with 50 people who are like 50 vision boards, because that's it. It's so funny. The doctors in the business school, they have pictures of each other as vision boards, like on their vision boards, right? And so you get to be in that community. And in our community, we have built this culture of collaboration over competition. And so it's not a competition, it's collaboration. There's people opening doors for each other and all. It's so amazing. Like the comp the community alone is enough to radically transform anybody's life. And that's why we call it the EBS Commonwealth. Okay. So that's the first thing. And so, you know, why do I prioritize events? Because of the communities I get to be in, because of the people I get to have experiences with, because of the relationships I get to develop, and I open doors for them, and they open doors for me, and they share what's working for them, and I share what's working for me, and we all leave so much better, right? Okay, so that's the first reason. The second reason is world-class mentorship, world-class mentorship, right? And you know, like I would, you know, typically look for events where these are people who've been there, done that, they're doing things I can only dream of, and things like that. And so for the doctors in the Ontreinity Business School, for instance, when they come for the vision retreat, I have spent months working on the content. I have spent months on working out how to take this content and turn it into a processing plan. So they come in one way, they leave another way. So they're gonna leave with their life goals set, right? In all night areas of their life. They're gonna leave with their business goals set. They're gonna leave understanding what they need to do to become the kind of person who can pull off the results they want to pull off. They're gonna leave understand with their time mapped out. This is how I'm going to use my time. This is the pathway to get to my goals, all of these things. And the obstacles they have, we are going to get rid of those obstacles. And so the things that were tough for them in 2025 become things they conquer in the rest of 2025 or as we're going into 2026. And so the quality of mentorship, the quality is gonna be so top-notch. And when you encounter stuff like that, like a simple conversation like that can radically transform your life. And, you know, everybody knows, well, maybe not everybody, right? But everybody who's been in this journey for a while has an idea of what their zone of genius is. And I can tell you what my zone of genius is, right? My zone of genius, or one of them, is being able to take complex problems and break them down to like their lowest common denominator. Like, this looks like chaos all over here and it's unsurmountable and all that, but literally it's three things going on here. And this is how you fix it. This is my zone of genius. I literally had a conversation with a potential client and talked about, you know, something that was going on in his practice that was costing him at least$200,000, right? And he's like easily$200,000. It could be much more. And in five minutes, I was able to show him like this is how you can use$30,000 to solve this$200,000 problem. Boom, done. This is my jab. This is the experience that they're going to have. And so when you're going for events, right? Like, so you tap into the community, don't just show up and lurk or stay at the back. And I did all these things. Okay, so of course I'm not judging you. But what I am saying is there's so much to be had, right? And then when it comes to the mentorship, when it comes to the frameworks, when it comes to things that are being taught and the exercises and all, you want to go all in. You don't want to stay in, oh, but oh, what if, oh, none of that. Like just lean into it. Lean into it. Okay, so that's why they do that. That's why they prioritize it. Well, number one is community. Number two is world-class mentorship. Number three is real-time transformation, right? Like, so what do I mean by this? Back in the day, I used to attend events where they teach you a bunch of stuff and there's a lot of motivation, everybody's screaming, all the stuff, and they send you home with a bunch of homework, which nobody did. Nobody did. Okay, so the events I love to attend are the events that barely have any homework, right? Where it's like you learn some, you do an exercise, you learn some, you have a reflection, you learn some and do all of that stuff. So whatever it is that you need to go home and do to create the transformation, you're doing it in real time and creating the transformation in real time. Like, so these people know when I show up for this event, I'm gonna walk away a different person. I'm going to have mindset ships, I'm gonna acquire new habits, I'm going to be more aware of obstacles that have stopped me. I am going to see simple pathways for me to accomplish what I need to accomplish. I'm going to make connections with, you know, with the people that I need to go to the next level and all of these things, like it's real time. It's happening in real time. So I want you to think about this. If you had an event you could go to where you attend the event and you experience the power, the transformative power of a community, then world-class mentorship, and you have an opportunity to do these exercises, assignments, worksheets, all this stuff in real time. So you're changing in real time, like you're doing the work, you're changing your business, you're changing your life in real time. I want you to think about how different your life will be, how different your business will be. This is what the right events can do for you. Okay. All right. Number four. Number four is the mental breakthroughs they can have because they walked away from their everyday life, their businesses, right? So I remember a vision retreat we had. Oh, actually, it wasn't a vision retreat. It was a business makeover mastermind, which is the events we host in April, March, April. And I had a doc who told me, like, oh, you know, so this event, I'm not gonna be there. I'm like, what? Why, why are you not gonna be there? And she says, because if I come, I have to shut down my practice. And I said, okay, so that's what you do. You shut down your practice. And you would say, Why, how could I have said that confidently? How could I tell somebody to shut down their practice for a day or two days or whatever to come to this event? I said that because if you have a practice you're not able to walk away from for two days, you need to come. So we figure that out. Because you should be able to go for an event for two days and your practice should run like nothing happened. If you can't come because you have to shut down your practice to come, then you should shut down your practice to come. So we can work on helping you get a practice that you can walk away from and it can still run as if you were there, right? And today she has that practice. And today she's able to, you know, travel for family, for fun, for all of these things, for events. You know, she's coming for this, you know, vision retreat and all that stuff. And it's because she said, yeah, she shut down her practice and came. And now she has a practice she can walk away from when she wants to go and do stuff, right? I said all that to say this. There's something about walking away from your business, walking away from your daily grind. You know, I tell you that your business is I'll always be a construction site. There's something about walking away from the construction site and going to the penthouse and making plans there. There's just something about it where some things that seem like obstacles are no longer obstacles, some things you thought were just overwhelming that can be overcome. You can think more clearly. It's just a beautiful thing to walk away, right? It's a beautiful thing to walk away. And it's so much easier to have breakthrough ideas, breakthrough concepts for you to see obstacles in a completely different light, right? And so there's a lot of mental trans mental breakthroughs that come from leaving, like from leaving your day to day, leaving your house, leaving your home. And, you know, so for instance, for the vision retreat, every time but one, we have done it by the beach. And it's on purpose that that granted, I like being by the beach and I like the water, so that's where we go. But there's also something about being in nature. There's something about being in a room and looking out and seeing the ocean. There's something about standing by the ocean and you don't see an end to it, right? Like there's no end. And it's expansive and it makes you go like, why do I have this little thinking? Like, there's so much abundance. Like I can think bigger. I can, you know, there's something about that. There's something about that. There's something about walking away. And so there's so many breakthroughs to be had. In fact, the first time we hit a million dollars in revenue in the in on trimd, it was one of those kind of experiences. I went for an event and again, community, right? Somebody started talking about, you know, how her business makes an easy million a month. I was like, easy million a month. I'm like, she could do easy million a month. I could probably do an easy million a year. You know what I mean? Because at that point I thought a million a year was impossible. Like, I don't know how I could do that. And, you know, after the event, then I go out by the beach and I'm pacing and I'm going, like, okay, I need to figure this out. Like, how could I take my business to a million a year? I was on that beach for three hours because I was this, I decided I will not leave until I figure this out. And I walked away with a very simple pathway, walked back to my computer in my hotel room, executed the pathway, and boom, that was the year that we hit a million in revenue. And so these are mental breakthroughs. Okay, it's the mental breakthroughs. Okay. And then the fifth reason is it's just fun. It's just fun. And oh my goodness, sometimes as entrepreneurs, we are so serious. In fact, let me tell you how serious I am as an entrepreneur. When I first discovered the wheel of life, it was eight areas of life. So it was spiritual, family, legacy, social capital, intellectual development, finances, business, and one other one that I'm missing, maybe health. And, you know, but I added a ninth one. I added fun because I said, if I don't have a goal for fun, then it's not going to happen. I have to have a goal. Like, okay, we're going to go on vacation. We're going to do all this stuff. Like it's not a default setting, right? And I love what I do. I love to work. And so, yes, I have to have to have that as a goal. Oh, but these events are fun. And as entrepreneurs, we need to have fun. We need to have a light side. We need to have days where we're not working. We need to just be able to hang out with people and talk about them and talk about, we talk about family and friends and the weather and shopping and all of these things and crack jokes. And it's so good for you. It's so good for you. Now, the doctors in the Ontario and B business school are an interesting group of doctors, okay? They're so fun. Like they're hardcore, they do the work, they're growing their businesses, they're defying the status quo, they're doing all that, and they are so much fun. Every time we have a vision retreat, any resort that we use, it is so loud because we're there. And literally, I was listening to Mikita, you know, she was talking to someone who was coming to the vision retreat for the first time. It's like, I, you know, I don't know how it's gonna be and all that stuff. You know, where fine people and all this is just follow the sound. Follow the sound that you find them. And so it's so fun. It's so fun. A lot of times people have birthdays during, you know, during it, and they come and we celebrate their birthdays and we do all of that stuff. It's like screaming and laughing and letting it go and all of that stuff. And we need that. As entrepreneurs, we need that, right? And so when you think about this, you understand that events are not just events, they're not just things that have to happen. There's a reason. Like there's a reason we do this every year. We do this twice a year for our clients, for the doctors in the on-term business school. And because I know you come and you engage with the community, you engage with the world-class mentorship, you uh uh engage in the exercises so you can have those real-time breakthroughs, you have those mental breakthroughs because you've disconnected from your day-to-day and all that in the construction site that your business is, and you really let yourself have fun, you can easily 10x to a thousand X, a thousand X, your investment of time, energy, and money on any event. On any event. Like, I because I'm like, we gave you so many options to get an ROI. It would change your life. And so if you're in the entrepreneur business school and you're listening to this, you know, you just want to listen to this and go like, this is how we engage in events, the business school events, the vision retreat, and the business makeover mastermind. If you're not, but you go to events, this is the way you engage. This is how you look for what event to go for. Like, what event has the community, has the world-class mentorship, how do they run their programs so I can get these real-time breakthroughs? Are the people I want to hang out with that have fun with, and all of those things? And then you go and engage with the process. I have never gone to an event where I do not get a huge ROI. It has never happened. And it's not gonna happen because I know what I'm going there to do and I know how to get an ROI from an event, right? And I want to invite you to do the same. And if you're listening to this and you're like, oh my goodness, like this is all the stuff they do in the on-trained business school, listen. I wish I had the on-trained business school when I became an entrepreneur, but I didn't. I wish that I had access to world-class mentorship. I wish I had access to a community of elite physician entrepreneurs. I literally used to Google physician entrepreneur. Like, where are these people? I couldn't find them anywhere, right? And in business, ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is expensive. It costs you money, like literal dollars. And, you know, my wish for you, if you love this podcast, I know you love the entream d business school, right? Like, so if you're thinking about it, you know, just schedule a call with my team. It's a call, it's not gonna hurt you. And we don't do high pressure sales tactics or anything like that. So entreamity.com forward slash call and just explore and see what it's like and what it could be like for you. When you go for your next event or as you plan, you choose what event you want to go for, bear these things in mind. And if you're gonna spend time away from your family, like I have four kids and I love my kids and I love my husband, and I'm a homebody. So if I'm gonna go somewhere, you best believe I'm gonna get a return on investment on it. Okay. So the next time you go for an event, I want you to bear these things in mind so that this will be an event that will be such a game changer. The same way I referenced, you know, when we made our first meal, like this is the event I was at, and all these things. I want you to have those kind of stories too, right? And it all starts with the intentionality you use when you're choosing and showing up and engaging in an event. Okay. So this is what I wish for you that every time you go for an event, is you experience a quantum leap. Like your business jumps, your life jumps. It's a big shift. You know, like this is the end of showing up at events and coming back, and it was inspiring, it was good. No, no, no, no, no, a thousand times no. It can change your entire life. You can change your entire life. So this is the way I want you to do it from now with intentionality, okay? All right, rooting for you as always. Don't subscribe to the live that you cannot win as a physician entrepreneur. Of course you can. Of course you can. Now, of course, we're gonna need to learn new things, we're gonna need to do things in a different way. But you can win. So many doctors ahead of you, hundreds, thousands are winning, have won, and we're waiting on you to do that too. Okay? All right, rooting for every single one of you. See you on the next episode.
