Porty Podcast
The Porty Podcast is a community project, highlighting events in and around Edinburgh's seaside - Portobello! It's a very active area with sailing, rowing and kayaking on the Forth, a vibrant artistic community and a strong sense of identity which makes it slightly separate from the other parts of Edinburgh. 116 Portobello to Portobello
Tomorrow morning, a group of intrepid cyclists will head out from Portobello High School, escorting Gordon Barclay as he sets out on a 500 mile ride to Portobello Road in London. The aim is to raise money for research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND). It all began on his 50th birthday. A friend from his days at Porty High, Ian Henderson - now a councillor in London, told him the tragic story of a woman called Clarrie who not only had lost people in the Grenfell Tower Fire but had just been diagnosed with MND. They decided to raise money, in part to help her and in part to help Doddie Weir’s MND Charity, My Name’5 Doddie. This morning, they met in the Kings Manor Hotel in Portobello which is where David Calder caught up with them.
