have a retinal disc disorder"},{"startTime":90.29,"endTime":94.5,"body":"called muscular dystrophy."},{"startTime":95.35,"endTime":97.01,"body":"So it's a genetic condition"},{"startTime":97.01,"endTime":99.56,"body":"that kind of switched"},{"startTime":97.01,"endTime":99.56,"body":"on around that time."},{"startTime":100.17,"endTime":102.34,"body":"And it affects"},{"startTime":100.17,"endTime":102.34,"body":"the central field of my vision."},{"startTime":102.34,"endTime":104.55,"body":"So things are blurry for me,"},{"startTime":104.55,"endTime":107.43,"body":"a bit like for people"},{"startTime":104.55,"endTime":107.43,"body":"who are very short sighted,"},{"startTime":107.43,"endTime":111.73,"body":"but it's not something for which"},{"startTime":107.43,"endTime":111.73,"body":"spectacles and refraction"},{"startTime":111.73,"endTime":114.93,"body":"can help with."},{"startTime":111.73,"endTime":114.93,"body":"So I'm left with that blurry."},{"startTime":114.93,"endTime":116.68,"body":"Well, my peripheral vision"},{"startTime":114.93,"endTime":116.68,"body":"is okay,"},{"startTime":117.77,"endTime":120.52,"body":"but that had quite a profound"},{"startTime":117.77,"endTime":120.52,"body":"impact on the safety of me"},{"startTime":120.52,"endTime":123.26,"body":"working in my chosen profession"},{"startTime":120.52,"endTime":123.26,"body":"at the world,"},{"startTime":129.67,"endTime":132.06,"body":"in policing."},{"startTime":132.06,"endTime":135.25,"body":"So I moved initially"},{"startTime":132.06,"endTime":135.25,"body":"into training and development"},{"startTime":135.25,"endTime":138.05,"body":"at the police training school"},{"startTime":135.25,"endTime":138.05,"body":"at Hendon in London."},{"startTime":138.99,"endTime":141.72,"body":"I got real interest"},{"startTime":138.99,"endTime":141.72,"body":"at that time, of course,"},{"startTime":141.72,"endTime":146.28,"body":"around diversity and inclusion."},{"startTime":141.72,"endTime":146.28,"body":"The police had an exemption"},{"startTime":146.28,"endTime":148.85,"body":"from the equality legislation"},{"startTime":146.28,"endTime":148.85,"body":"back then."},{"startTime":148.85,"endTime":152.09,"body":"But, you know, I sort of self"},{"startTime":148.85,"endTime":152.09,"body":"armed with knowledge."},{"startTime":152.09,"endTime":154.88,"body":"I realized quite rightly"},{"startTime":152.09,"endTime":154.88,"body":"that the Government"},{"startTime":155.99,"endTime":158.45,"body":"decided to change that"},{"startTime":155.99,"endTime":158.45,"body":"and remove that exemption."},{"startTime":158.45,"endTime":161.28,"body":"So I suppose I was in the"},{"startTime":158.45,"endTime":161.28,"body":"right place at the right networks"},{"startTime":179.51,"endTime":181.36,"body":"to support people"},{"startTime":179.51,"endTime":181.36,"body":"with health conditions"},{"startTime":181.36,"endTime":182.96,"body":"and disabilities in policing."},{"startTime":183.88,"endTime":189.17,"body":"So I stayed through to my term"},{"startTime":183.88,"endTime":189.17,"body":"of 30 years and retired in
