discussed that accessibility within the development"},{"startTime":169.884,"endTime":176.389,"body":"team."},{"startTime":176.629,"endTime":181.413,"body":"I've lived with somebody for many years with accessibility challenges."},{"startTime":181.413,"endTime":190.838,"body":"And even I didn't think about mentioning it because there's this default thing about fantastic."},{"startTime":224.029,"endTime":228.283,"body":"gosh, I wish I had accessibility challenges that I could really benefit from all this premise of accessibility within banking starts off incorrectly."},{"startTime":242.698,"endTime":248.741,"body":"in the sense that it's one solution for the everybody's"},{"startTime":249.022,"endTime":257.301,"body":"accessibility needs are uniquely was, and Debra, also, we were part of the W3C's cognitive accessibility task"},{"startTime":347.146,"endTime":356.934,"body":"force way back when, when they were thinking about user needs, frankly, the different"},{"startTime":347.146,"endTime":356.934,"body":"requirements and needs of different cognitive accessibility groups and different"},{"startTime":357.135,"endTime":359.818,"body":"disability groups in general means that"},{"startTime":360.6,"endTime":363.558,"body":"You can't have one product that's going to work for everyone."},{"startTime":363.558,"endTime":368.339,"body":"So how are you going about solving that in the work that you're doing?"},{"startTime":368.725,"endTime":372.507,"body":"Can I just paint my little picture which I often do here, David, which just set the scene?"},{"startTime":372.507,"endTime":382.072,"body":"Imagine a sketch of a caretaker outside some school doors are locked and there's snowed"},{"startTime":382.072,"endTime":382.853,"body":"overnight."},{"startTime":382.853,"endTime":385.775,"body":"And the students are locked out at the bottom of these steps waiting."},{"startTime":385.775,"endTime":392.038,"body":"And there's a student who's a wheelchair user to the left of these steps waiting at this smart young man calls the caretaker, please sir."},{"startTime":397.513,"endTime":401.933,"body":"If you can just sweep the snow off the ramp, we can all get thing that I have found is that banks, especially looking at it from US lens, since"},{"startTime":432.387,"endTime":438.985,"body":"I'm in the United efforts."},{"startTime":441.216,"endTime":443.337,"body":"Financial institutions have made efforts."},{"startTime":443.337,"endTime":452.281,"body":"But I will tell you, and I won't tell you the bank, but a very large bank in the United"},{"startTime":443.337,"endTime":452.281,"body":"States, which is a global bank, invited me a couple of years to come in and talk to them"},{"startTime":452.281,"endTime":453.351,"body":"about accessibility."},{"startTime":453.351,"endTime":454.982,"body":"And I was sort of surprised."},{"startTime":454.982,"endTime":457.793,"body":"And they said, well, we have done all these things."},{"startTime":457.793,"endTime":459.104,"body":"We've got this program over here."},{"startTime":459.104,"endTime":459.724,"body":"We got this."},{"startTime":459.724,"endTime":460.324,"body":"You can do this."},{"startTime":460.324,"endTime":461.004,"body":"You can do this."},{"startTime":461.004,"endTime":465.479,"body":"They said, the problem is our wealthy customers"},{"startTime":465.479,"endTime":467.32,"body":"don't wanna use those side steps."},{"startTime":467.32,"endTime":475.944,"body":"And so they're really getting mad at us that the people with the money, they're finding"},{"startTime":467.32,"endTime":475.944,"body":"that the banking and the financial are not accessible to them."},{"startTime":475.944,"endTime":483.707,"body":"So we're like really sort of freaking out, because we did do these little band aids over"},{"startTime":475.944,"endTime":483.707,"body":"here, not their words, but for some reason it's not working."},{"startTime":483.707,"endTime":489.211,"body":"first of all, would just, because I hear what you're saying about Charlie, I've got Sarah"},{"startTime":483.707,"endTime":489.211,"body":"that can't really be included."},{"startTime":489.211,"endTime":490.952,"body":"But the reality would happen at the ideation stage is that it"},{"startTime":562.728,"endTime":577.371,"body":"would, the teams involved would talk to and engage with the target groups that they would"},{"startTime":577.371,"endTime":580.764,"body":"be trying to assist when it comes to accessibility."},{"startTime":581.385,"endTime":583.936,"body":"That, generally speaking, does not happen."},{"startTime":583.995,"endTime":593.121,"body":"And so, you you kind of get into a bit of a default mode where teams work together."},{"startTime":593.121,"endTime":607.69,"body":"And then sometimes, if you're lucky, towards the end of it or the middle of it, there"},{"startTime":593.121,"endTime":607.69,"body":"might be some involvement with an accessibility consultancy group."},{"startTime":607.69,"endTime":610.291,"body":"Then it's a case of..."},{"startTime":610.336,"endTime":613.39,"body":"a big opportunity to profit, which can also become in the form of reducing costs."},{"startTime":638.645,"endTime":640.121,"body":"think about massive"},{"startTime":641.677,"endTime":652.966,"body":"organizations who genuinely are trying to produce a better outcome for customers, they"},{"startTime":652.966,"endTime":657.029,"body":"keep hitting so many brick walls that eventually they get worn down."},{"startTime":657.029,"endTime":662.232,"body":"And this is because there is no or there's very little evidence of buying"},{"startTime":662.232,"endTime":663.523,"body":"from the board."},{"startTime":664.245,"endTime":674.202,"body":"So the board have these objectives which are to maximise return on investment for"},{"startTime":664.245,"endTime":674.202,"body":"shareholders and that doesn't typically go hand in hand with accessibility."},{"startTime":674.202,"endTime":682.626,"body":"I think also I'd like to add to that, and I've spoken to quite a few global banks, more so"},{"startTime":674.202,"endTime":682.626,"body":"over here in the UK for now, but I think their hands are tied with their legacy systems,"},{"startTime":682.626,"endTime":684.306,"body":"which are quite often broken."},{"startTime":684.306,"endTime":686.927,"body":"So they can't be nimble like we're being nimble."},{"startTime":686.927,"endTime":697.29,"body":"We've got a wish list and this wish list is being shared with people with the frustrations"},{"startTime":686.927,"endTime":697.29,"body":"to build it with the people that need these things to work differently."},{"startTime":697.91,"endTime":699.153,"body":"And we're just..."},{"startTime":699.153,"endTime":702.905,"body":"fresh pair of eyes on the situation that should have been tackled decades ago."},{"startTime":702.905,"endTime":707.907,"body":"But I've had banks say to me, we have other priorities right now, which I think is so"},{"startTime":702.905,"endTime":707.907,"body":"ableist."},{"startTime":707.907,"endTime":710.568,"body":"What, you've got other priorities rather than people?"},{"startTime":710.648,"endTime":711.968,"body":"How does that work?"},{"startTime":711.968,"endTime":718.504,"body":"So it's time to just do the right thing and show the banks how it should be done."},{"startTime":718.504,"endTime":719.515,"body":"children."},{"startTime":719.515,"endTime":727.895,"body":"For a great part of my life, bank means for me, I go to a branch, I talk with the age."},{"startTime":736.619,"endTime":740.802,"body":"You could go in and somebody would serve you and would talk with you."},{"startTime":741.163,"endTime":749.159,"body":"As a consequence of digitalization, sometimes also this impression that banks don't see"},{"startTime":741.163,"endTime":749.159,"body":"the customers anymore."},{"startTime":749.159,"endTime":751.021,"body":"So they are at home."},{"startTime":751.021,"endTime":758.721,"body":"you feel that the fact that customers no longer see their customers negatively impact the"},{"startTime":751.021,"endTime":758.721,"body":"fact that"},{"startTime":758.721,"endTime":761.522,"body":"They are not considering accessibility as they should."},{"startTime":761.765,"endTime":763.245,"body":"Definitely."},{"startTime":763.365,"endTime":773.925,"body":"Now, in using the UK as an example, 62 % of all bank branches since 2015 have been closed."},{"startTime":774.705,"endTime":789.573,"body":"And on average, banks believe that the cost reduction to overheads and expenses in closing"},{"startTime":774.705,"endTime":789.573,"body":"a branch will save them"},{"startTime":789.573,"endTime":798.395,"body":"make them for better power, for better statistics, so 21,000 units of energy would be too"},{"startTime":789.573,"endTime":798.395,"body":"much."},{"startTime":799.855,"endTime":803.755,"body":"So that's why I've been on this mission."},{"startTime":804.115,"endTime":807.375,"body":"I you've got happy users, will generate what you need to generate to carry on, to"},{"startTime":866.458,"endTime":880.068,"body":"continue developing and to deliver a return on investment for your banks, insurance companies, people with learning disabilities, all"},{"startTime":891.552,"endTime":901.083,"body":"sorts of people that were relevant to ask their where you can say, why hasn't it been made accessible before?"},{"startTime":909.143,"endTime":911.543,"body":"So the course came up on the screen, cash."},{"startTime":911.551,"endTime":915.071,"body":"ignorance, budget, those kind of things, the obvious really."},{"startTime":915.071,"endTime":922.491,"body":"But by the end of about an hour and
