what I want to know about, what I really want to wrestle with, and I want all of us to go on a journey with today is what does it look like to thrive, to like really last? 00:02:59.520 --> 00:03:10.879 Because we all hear about people and we've observed people who are successful in either entertainment, business, even ministry, to sadly seeing a fallout, someone burning out. 00:03:10.960 --> 00:03:18.639 Maybe that's you in a business you've started, and like the first two years you were gung ho and it became work and it fell out, you lost your passion for it. slowly, fight after fight, not seeking to resolve things, but seeking to actually divide and to prove your point, you've started to see a healthy relationship become something that you dread. through, like, hey, we're starting brand new, families are gonna be coming in, people are gonna be serving God. 00:03:51.039 --> 00:03:53.520 And like through ministry, I've been serving in ministry. 00:03:53.599 --> 00:04:05.199 I've been, I've known Jesus now for about 11 years now, and I've seen so many people come either through these doors or under ministry, as I was a part of, and people just go silent, they disappear. 00:04:05.599 --> 00:04:09.680 What I really wanna wrestle with today is how do people last? 00:04:10.800 --> 00:04:12.879 How do we keep running hard? 00:04:13.120 --> losing everything, people chasing after success, validation, approval, people who we've even thought had it all together, like celebrities, and we have, you know, access into people's lives that we there's people who struggle with this, and I hope you'll agree with me that you are also struggling with this idea today, and that we don't leave ourselves to point someone else, but we would Jesus said in John 4, verse 13, Jesus said, Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 00:05:57.519 --> 00:06:00.399 And maybe you already know this story, maybe you don't, and that's okay. 00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:08.560 We're gonna really dive into this conversation that Jesus had with someone, someone who wants to thrive, who all it's clear, wanted to know God. 00:06:08.959 --> 00:06:13.279 It's clear, if I asked you, most people are gonna go, hey, I want to do whatever it takes to wreck my life. 00:06:13.439 --> 00:06:15.519 I want to ruin every relationship I've ever been well, he was talking about physical water, but what we're going to learn is he's actually talking about so much more today. 00:06:38.720 --> 00:06:41.519 Today, my message is called thirst trap. about this woman. 00:08:35.279 --> 00:08:38.240 So, this is a story we find in John chapter 4. 00:08:38.320 --> 00:08:41.440 You may know it as the woman at the well, the Samaritan woman. 00:08:41.600 --> 00:08:45.039 And um, picture this it's a blazing hot day, super hot. 00:08:45.200 --> 00:08:47.039 Texas, I moved here three years ago. 00:08:47.120 --> 00:08:49.200 We had like, I don't know, a hundred days over a hundred. 00:08:49.440 --> 00:08:49.919 That's wild. 00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:50.799 Let's just picture that. 00:08:50.960 --> 00:08:51.600 It's hot. 00:08:51.759 --> 00:08:58.159 This woman is walking over to a physical well, and it's right in the pitch of the afternoon, and she's alone. 00:08:58.399 --> 00:09:05.759 And right away, you and I, if we were reading into the text, if we were studying what's going on in the scripture, we would learn that that is a red flag. 00:09:06.080 --> 00:09:10.399 Most women would travel together as a group and they would do it right in the peak of dawn. 00:09:10.480 --> 00:09:13.120 They would do it right in the morning when it's cool out. 00:09:13.440 --> 00:09:20.799 So we we read about this woman who's traveling on her way to this well, and she actually is confronted by a man. 00:09:21.200 --> 00:09:28.960 And a man there is sitting at this well, and what she's shocked is that this man is a Jew, and this man is actually talking to her. 00:09:29.200 --> 00:09:32.240 A Jewish person would not talk to a Samaritan woman. 00:09:32.480 --> 00:09:34.720 And this man is Jesus. 00:09:35.039 --> 00:09:37.600 He's not no she's coming today. 00:09:47.840 --> 00:09:53.279 She's coming to this well to quench her thirst, her physical thirst. 00:09:53.519 --> 00:09:56.960 It's hot, she's trying to provide for her family. 00:09:58.720 --> 00:10:01.519 And she has an encounter with Jesus. 00:10:02.720 --> 00:10:08.000 And right there in John 4, verse 10, they're having a c they're having a dialect, and we'll clear it up. 00:10:08.080 --> 00:10:19.919 But it says in John 4, verse 10, Jesus answered, If you knew the gift of God and who was saying this to you, give me a drink, and you would ask him, and he would give you living water. 00:10:20.559 --> 00:10:24.320 Jesus is there, he's parched, it says he's weary, he's tired, he's been traveling. 00:10:24.559 --> 00:10:29.519 The disciples, they're on a journey into town to get food, and Jesus decided to stay back at this well. 00:10:29.919 --> 00:10:41.759 And the Samaritan woman who's looking for physical water to quench her physical thirst has an encounter with Jesus, and Jesus asks her for water, and she's shocked that he's talking to her. 00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:49.919 And he says, If you only knew who I was, you would be asking me to give you water, living water. 00:10:50.240 --> 00:10:52.159 And she's obviously confused. 00:10:52.480 --> 00:10:55.279 Like, one, why is this guy talking to me? 00:10:55.519 --> 00:10:56.720 And you know the approach. 00:10:56.799 --> 00:11:02.159 Like, you've been there where you're walking up to someone, you see someone there, especially like you see a dude, she's probably like not excited for this. 00:11:02.320 --> 00:11:06.159 Like, okay, and then he decides to talk to her, and she's like, I just gotta get out of here. 00:11:06.240 --> 00:11:08.000 I'm alone, I don't wanna deal with this. 00:11:08.159 --> 00:11:23.039 So, like, this is all going on in her head, and he's saying this weird statement to her, like, if you only knew who he was asking you to drink for water, you'd flip the question and then you'd ask me for water, and she's looking at him, and she literally says in the next text, like, you don't even have a bucket, dude. 00:11:23.360 --> 00:11:24.960 How are you gonna help me? 00:11:25.120 --> 00:11:26.159 This is a deep well. 00:11:26.240 --> 00:11:36.480 If you don't know, like they used to have to walk up to this well, drop this bucket, and then rope this thing back up and carry this five, you know, 10-pound 10-gallon thing of water back into town. 00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:41.440 And Jesus says this statement here, and she doesn't get it. 00:11:42.480 --> 00:11:45.919 And you and I, we wouldn't understand what he was saying. 00:11:46.240 --> 00:11:50.000 So Jesus spells it out in our key text we just read, John 4, verse 13. 00:11:50.159 --> 00:11:54.559 Jesus said, Everyone who drinks from this water will thirst again. 00:11:55.519 --> 00:11:57.440 And that's where it gets real. 00:11:57.840 --> 00:12:06.639 That's where there's some kind, like something's working in her head because he's not talking about the water from the well, he's talking about her life. 00:12:08.159 --> 00:12:17.759 And she keeps coming back to this physical well to draw physical water to quench her physical thirst that is necessary. 00:12:18.000 --> 00:12:19.279 She needs this. 00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:23.279 And Jesus, he's not he's not concerned with that. 00:12:23.759 --> 00:12:28.240 He wants to provide something different because he knows this woman. 00:12:28.399 --> 00:12:33.519 He actually tells her point blank how much he knows her because when he asks her, he says, Hey, go get your husband. 00:12:33.679 --> 00:12:35.679 And she's like, I don't have a husband. 00:12:35.840 --> 00:12:37.200 And he's like, You're right. 00:12:37.360 --> 00:12:43.120 You've had five husbands, and right now you're living with a man who's not even, you're not even married to. 00:12:43.600 --> 00:12:48.639 And it wasn't to condemn her, to do all these well. 00:12:54.559 --> 00:13:15.840 She wanted a physical need met, but he is providing something different to her because she's been going back to the same well over and over and over, chasing relationship after relationship after relationship, trying to find validation, approval, and all of these different things that will never satisfy her actual thirst. 00:13:16.000 --> 00:13:17.840 She keeps coming back. 00:13:18.720 --> 00:13:21.279 And today, Jesus calls it out. 00:13:21.519 --> 00:13:27.759 He says, Anyone who drinks from this water will soon become thirsty again. 00:13:29.759 00:13:48.240 --> 00:13:59.919 This woman came today trying to get her physical thirst met, and Jesus is offering her as well as all of us here today, something different, something eternal. basic survival. 00:15:27.200 --> 00:15:37.919 But then what we're trying to do, because we feel this emptiness, we feel lonely, we feel whatever it is that you're feeling today, and we try and shove in his next statement, John 4, verse 14. 00:16:47.519 --> 00:16:52.559 He says, But whoever drinks from this water that I will give them will never thirst again. 00:16:52.720 --> 00:16:59.360 In fact, the water will that I will give them will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life. 00:17:00.879 --> 00:17:03.120 Jesus is saying, I have the answer. 00:17:04.240 --> 00:17:08.319 promise that you will ever cling on to. 00:17:50.160 --> 00:17:56.720 That is the only time you're gonna feel that is when God calls us back to Himself, when we're fully known, fully accepted by our
