we're gonna thank you in advance because this is your movement, and you've given all of us a role, and you've created all of us with a purpose, and we have a part to play, and a building is just a all the way back in December of 2018. 00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:41.279 And if you watched last week, you know that the first time I preached this in 2018 was the very first time that we talked about the Kmart. 00:06:41.680 --> 00:06:49.120 We talked about how way back then it was a very messy message about a very messy miracle. 00:06:49.439 --> 00:06:54.800 Today I want to revisit another scripture that I touched on recently. 00:06:55.040 --> 00:07:00.879 This was the second sermon that I preached in January of 2020. 00:07:01.040 --> 00:07:07.360 Now am I the only one who feels like January was 47 years ago? 00:07:07.519 --> 00:07:14.879 As I looked back on the sermon I preached the first time we went through this text, it was actually our new year sermon. 00:07:15.120 --> 00:07:17.759 2020, what a year of possibility. 00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:20.639 What miracles is God gonna do in your life? 00:07:20.800 --> 00:07:26.079 Are you finally gonna get the job, meet the girl, kick the addiction, build the wealth? 00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:30.720 It was like, here we come, 2020, and nothing's gonna stop us. 00:07:32.399 --> 00:07:39.600 I looked back at this text, and in January, I saw one aspect of it. 00:07:39.839 --> 00:07:41.759 I saw God's favor. 00:07:42.399 --> 00:07:48.560 I'm looking at it now at the end of October, and what I see is the fight. 00:07:49.120 --> 00:07:51.920 Same story, two different angles. 00:07:52.079 --> 00:07:54.560 And that's just how good God's word is. 00:07:54.720 --> 00:07:58.399 It meets you in whatever season that you find yourself. 00:07:58.639 --> 00:08:04.639 And we know that since January of 2020, our world has been turned upside down. 00:08:05.120 --> 00:08:14.160 We are living in the tension, we're living in the wilderness, we're building it now to do whatever it takes. 00:08:15.040 --> 00:08:19.040 We're gonna be in the book of 2 Kings, chapter 4. 00:08:19.199 --> 00:08:27.439 In verse 1, it says, One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, Your servant, my husband, has died. 00:08:27.600 --> 00:08:29.920 And you know that your servant feared the Lord. 00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:38.080 And now, here's the tension: now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves. 00:08:38.480 --> 00:08:45.039 The wife of the son of one of the prophets has lost her husband. 00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:52.559 And now she goes to Elijah, the head of all of the prophets, and this woman is desperate. 00:08:52.960 --> 00:08:59.120 With her husband gone at that place, at that time, as a woman, she had no earning potential. 00:08:59.440 --> 00:09:04.799 She was in debt, she owed on probably many things, including her house. 00:09:05.120 --> 00:09:08.720 And there was only one way to keep the house. 00:09:08.960 --> 00:09:15.919 The creditors would come, they would take her sons, they would put her to work, and their work would help pay off of her debts. 00:09:16.080 --> 00:09:25.440 She either was going to lose her possessions and be on the streets, or she was going to lose her sons, lose her sons or lose her house. 00:09:25.600 --> 00:09:26.639 Those are the options. 00:09:26.720 --> 00:09:30.559 It is a lose-lose situation. 00:09:32.320 --> 00:09:36.080 To top it all off, her husband is gone. 00:09:36.320 --> 00:09:40.480 There's no one to stand by her and help guide her through it. 00:09:40.639 --> 00:09:42.480 She goes to the only person she can think of. 00:09:42.559 --> 00:09:52.480 She goes to Elijah, the great man of God, the great prophet who God has worked so many miracles through, and she knows in this moment to not lose, either lose the house or lose the kids. 00:09:52.639 --> 00:09:53.919 She needs a miracle. 00:09:54.080 --> 00:10:00.000 She needs Elijah to stand up and stand in the gap for her situation. 00:10:00.480 --> 00:10:05.600 In verse 2, Elisha asked her, What can I do for you? 00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:09.840 Tell me, what do you have in the house? 00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:13.519 And she said, Your servant has nothing. 00:10:15.200 --> 00:10:20.960 Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil. 00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:25.279 And this is where we really zeroed in for a while in January. 00:10:26.320 --> 00:10:28.159 He asks, What do you have? 00:10:28.399 --> 00:10:30.159 She's asking him for something. 00:10:30.320 --> 00:10:34.480 She's asking for a miracle, but he turns it back and he says, Well, what do you have? 00:10:34.639 --> 00:10:36.080 What do we have to work with here? 00:10:36.240 --> 00:10:38.720 What do you have that God might be able to use? 00:10:38.879 --> 00:10:39.440 What do you have? 00:10:39.600 --> 00:10:42.960 And she immediately says, I have nothing. 00:10:43.279 --> 00:10:47.919 Now she catches herself because that is not a factually true statement. 00:10:48.159 --> 00:10:52.000 It is not factually correct that she has nothing. 00:10:53.120 --> 00:10:59.120 I have nothing except a small, useless jar of oil. 00:10:59.279 --> 00:11:01.360 And it truly was useless. 00:11:01.600 --> 00:11:09.679 When you look back in the Hebrew and the word that is used for oil, this isn't like the oil that could be used in anointing the sacrifices. 00:11:09.840 --> 00:11:13.840 This wasn't like oil that could be used, you know, for something useful like cooking. 00:11:14.000 --> 00:11:16.159 This was the cheapest of the oils. 00:11:16.799 --> 00:11:24.080 It was an oil that was used in bathing, basically, so you just weren't rank all the time in a world that didn't really have anti-perspirant. 00:11:24.240 --> 00:11:26.799 Like this is this is the lowest of the low. 00:11:27.039 --> 00:11:34.720 As a matter of fact, it is so insignificant in her eyes that she knows she has something, but she calls it nothing. 00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:37.600 I have nothing. 00:11:38.879 --> 00:11:39.840 Except. 00:11:41.759 --> 00:11:52.639 And I wonder what it is in your life that God is wanting to use that you have already counted as nothing. 00:11:54.000 --> 00:12:03.600 You guys hear me preach week after week after week after week, for years now, about how God created you on 00:12:50.559 If I was just married, man, if I could just find the right person, then I could really do something for the ministry. 00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:58.799 You know, if I just had a little bit more wealth, I would really be able to give and to be generous and to make wise investments. 00:12:58.879 --> 00:13:03.039 And if I just got the promotion, if I got the promotion, I would have the influence at work. 00:13:03.279 --> 00:13:06.639 If I had the influence at work, then all of a sudden I'd have the respect of my peers. 00:13:06.720 --> 00:13:11.840 If I had the respect of my peers, then I could really be a shining light for the gospel in the workplace. 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:13.600 If I just came from a different family. 00:13:25.840 --> 00:13:30.480 Man, maybe then my life could be something other than just the status quo. 00:13:30.720 --> 00:13:46.720 If I had just made a few less mistakes, if I just had some different relationships, if I just had some better friends, we have all these ideas where if we could just fill in for the noth in our life, we could really be something for the kingdom. 00:13:48.720 --> 00:14:04.639 And so we have this approach and we see it, we see it in the widow, where we think, God, if you'll just give me the miracle, then I'll have what I need to make my way towards my purpose. 00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:16.720 If you would just give me the miracle, then all of a sudden I'll have all the component parts, I can put all of it together, and then I can get moving me together, move together. 00:14:16.799 --> 00:14:17.679 I love to move together. 00:14:17.759 --> 00:14:37.759 If God would just fill in the gaps and give me exactly what it is that I need, and maybe God isn't giving you the miracle that you so desperately want because of us already have the catalyst for the significant thing that God's wanting to do in your life. 00:14:50.480 --> 00:15:05.440 You've already been given the gift, you've already been given the talent, you've already been positioned where you need to be, you already have the circle of influence, you already have it, but you've already counted out the very thing that God is counting on. 00:15:06.879 --> 00:15:20.080 And the widow doesn't know that she already has the very thing that she needs for the miracle that she so desperately wants. 00:15:22.320 --> 00:15:25.679 We're looking to build out a three million dollar space. 00:15:26.480 --> 00:15:47.120 It's a lot of money, and one of the things that we're pretty good at, um, that myself and the the staff that help organize this movement is um when we come to something like trying to raise three million dollars, we are smart enough to know that we're dumb enough that we need someone smart enough to help us. 00:15:47.279 --> 00:15:50.799 And so what we did is we went and we got some consultants. 00:15:50.960 --> 00:15:54.480 And these guys work for one of the biggest consultancies in the entire nation. 00:15:54.559 --> 00:16:09.679 And I I happen to have known one of them from my college days, and and so we had this relationship, and and they came in and and man, they dug into our demographics and they dug into our data, and they they were gonna draw some conclusions to see how close we could get to this dollar figure. 00:16:09.840 --> 00:16:11.679 And you know what they came and said? 00:16:12.159 --> 00:16:18.799 They said, we have never, never's a big word, never's a big word for consultants who this is all they do full-time. 00:16:19.039 --> 00:16:26.080 We have never seen any church with so few wealthy people. we're going to approach it, how the widow initially approached it, if we're going to approach it the way that most of the world approaches it, and say, God, if you'll give me the miracle, then I'll going. 00:17:44.400 --> 00:17:58.799 It's a common way of thinking, it makes sense on the surface, but oftentimes, what God is wanting you to see is you already have what you need as the catalyst for your miracle. 00:17:59.759 --> 00:18:08.000 And after these consultants on the front end had spent time with our data, they came around and they spent time with our movement. 00:18:09.599 --> 00:18:13.039 And they came back and they said something very similar. 00:18:14.559 --> 00:18:24.559 We have never seen any church anywhere that has the people that you have. 00:18:25.359 --> 00:18:30.079 Maybe they don't have the money, but they're aware that they're not attending a church. 00:18:30.240 --> 00:18:38.720 They are a part of a movement, and maybe they don't have the wealth, but they have an unrelenting faith that God is going to see you through. 00:18:38.799 --> 00:18:47.039 And maybe they don't have it all figured out, but they are bought into a vision like we have kind of exception that says it may not look like we have what we need, we may have too little of the wrong kind of oil sitting on the shelf, but we have something that the world can't account for.
