Well, listen, we are doing our 100th. I get I can't tell you, I can't believe that it's uh it's been a hundred. I'm sure you can't either, because uh it was your uh it was it was actually your brain child that got me started. Yeah, you were. You were on the first couple, as a matter of fact. Um and with my frustration with that whole thing. But Ryan Woodard, I I appreciate you taking time out of your day to come down to do this. My pleasure because I know you got a pretty full day today, too. Well, we both do. Yeah. Later today. Yeah, later today, which this is gonna air after that, but later today, Ryan and I both are doing Shindig for the Sheriff. Uh Ryan doing it on the musical side, they won't let me sing, so I'm going to watch Ryan in Island style. You sang one song though with reason, didn't you? I did. Yeah. Um what was that song? I sang um uh Jailhouse Rock in Elvis 10. Oh yeah. Yeah. But I also did some vocals. Believe it or not, I did vocals for one of the songs that were recorded in your dad's studio. I did backup, I did the deep under the boardwalk. Oh, okay. Yeah. And then I had that was the first time I'd ever done anything like that. So I had your dad pump the volume up on my part, so I could take it to my wife at the time. I said, Listen, who do you think that is? She goes, I don't know, who is that? Man, he sounds really professional. He kept going on and on. I think Bill called her and told her she was just butter in my muffin, is all right. Butter in your bread. That's right. Thank you for that. But anyway, I I tell you, this all started um as a talk, and then we got some uh by adding a radio. Um and Scott McClan was here a little bit earlier, he'll be back. Um but we we added them so I could play music and I don't have to worry about uh having all the licensing. But I also brought Eric Campbell in today. I appreciate you taking time out of your segment. And I know you've got to run like uh almost uh right after we're done. You got someplace else to be.

Also, I want to really quick give a shout out to Julie. She's uh been busting her butt over there uh getting everything together. And I have uh Elaine Morrison from Laney's Tiny Tea House is putting together some tea. So we've got tea and crumpets. Kind of. I thought we said you had to say that was a British accent. Um, but I I I don't know. Uh I Eric, you're the responsible for our music. I love that. And here's what I like about Eric. He I asked him to put make me a sound bed, right? And so he kind of drugged his feet and got he but he got it done. He goes, Listen, I I'm gonna send you this, but it's a rough draft. And I'll never forget it. He's like, I'm not, you know, I'm I'm if you don't like it, it's okay. I don't know how many times, kind of like you when it comes to that Ryan. He's like, if you don't like it, it's fine, it's fine, it's fine. And uh I listened to him, I'm like, it's perfect. Yeah, it's a it's just all it is is music track. That's all what I needed. It was absolutely and it's uniquely ours. So I I can't thank you enough for that stuff, man.

Because I mean, I can go play a show, fill the house, make whatever restaurant I'm playing for, make them money, make me money. Like, I can put on like a great show, and I'll go home and think, man, I could have done better. You know, it's and it's just it's never good enough. Hey, lay down a track and to Eric or to someone like myself, it's like, yeah, it's just a rough draft, you know, just tell me what you think, and you might listen to it. And most people would listen to it and be like, that's perfect. What's what's the issue with that? That's never good enough. We always want to do that.

Well, that's that's a good thing, though. There's nothing wrong with that. You know, I asked Brian Howe one time of Bad Company, the late Brian Howe. I said, What do you think is your best work so far? I mean, he had some great hits when he was with Bad Company, had some good hits when he was uh alone, and he looked at me as this long pause and he said, My next one? You know, we're talking about a guy that, you know, had some number in one hits with bad company, and he's just like, eh, my next one. Yeah. So should always be striving, I guess. I think it's never done. Yeah. Yeah. Um, all right, Ryan, I'm I'm gonna put you on the pause. You don't even want to, huh? Should we just do should we just close the show now and go on about our business?

And every and more importantly, every wife or husband or someone who's in a relationship or a uh child of a musician understands that song. Because I feel like when uh I just point down his name, Steve Perry from the journey. I feel like when he wrote that song, it was a it was a love letter to his wife. Because being in love with the music man ain't always what it's supposed to be. Everybody thinks it's gonna be this glamorous thing, but really being a musician and being uh touring musician or just someone here who's hitting the streets or busking, like it's dirty work. It's tough. We have to get there hours before gigs, set everything out. I mean, for a hundred bucks, a three-hour game, a three-hour day where we're gonna make a hundred dollars sometimes takes us eight hours of our day. And I can't tell how many times I've missed New Year's parties, Mother's Days, because I'm playing out somewhere, so it's it's a tough being music. I'm not gonna say it's a tough being musician, I absolutely love it, but sometimes I do feel bad for my wife and my kid and my family. Well, anyway, let's talk about Steve Perry somewhere.

Yeah, it's well that that's hell. Well, Arizona, all almost the majority of Arizona is like living in hell.

Because I know you've been doing like an encore cafe here uh locally. Um where else have you been playing? I I know you've been playing a couple other games.

So I kind of took a little little bit of time off to kind of once again work on the craft and perfect some things and kind of change my perspective on music a little bit. Um one of the things I pride myself on is I can sit at any restaurant, bar, grill, or whatever and just I have 800 songs in my iPad that I can pull out at any time, but I get bored playing them. So a lot of times I'll just look out at the audience and just to say, give me some name an artist, name a genre or whatever, and just see what I can do and what I can kind of pull out of my butt. But instead of doing that, because I don't feel like I'm you know, I can fake my boy through like a Garth Brooks song, but it's not gonna be up to 100%. It's not gonna be that good. Right. So I've been really kind of refocusing myself on I still want to play songs people know, I still want to play songs that people are gonna enjoy. I'm not gonna play some like, oh, this is some indie guy who wrote this song 45 years ago that nobody's ever heard of. Like a guy named Nick Drake, who's an amazing player and singer and songwriter, but nobody knows who he is. Um I've just been trying to work on that. So I took a little bit of a break, and also because of the cold weather, most of these places kind of shut down their live music. COVID had them shut down too. They're opening up like crazy now. Oh yeah. So I'm I've gotten monthly standing gigs at um country club. I'm working with Rubios to get monthly standing gigs there for solo gigs. Uh the family band broke up that I was in. Uh, we lost our guitar, our guitar player moved to Florida, and then my sister kind of took it upon herself to say, well, maybe this is the time to kind of cut it out. That's too bad. After three years of us playing together, we kind of shut that down. But we're looking to retool that. I'm also playing with Darren. I'm driving down to Arizona, he's driving up here right now, so we're gonna be doing some stuff, and then mostly just solo weeks.

The job you have now gives you that kind of flexibility a little bit on weekends now, before you were kind of locked up on weekends having to work. That's right. I know. Or on burden his soul. You know, it looks like I just want to say something about Ryan. Well, I'm on leave right now, so I like to go by the place and honk and wave. Yeah. But um not only did you get me started, I think you got me started in the podcast when you after I went to work at the same place you were working, and you got me into you got me into that job too, if I remember correctly. That's right.

I mean, there's artists who are in their 50s who can't write songs as well as this. So I'm oh I is do I know this? Is this a popular song? You should know this song.
