Well, listen, did we determine what year they first started the uh we did, yeah.

It was uh 1989. 1989, created by producers Robert Small and Jim Burns. The show was designed to feature musicians playing their electric catalogs using only acoustic or unamplified instruments. And it was originally supposed to be for smaller actors. The first episode uh was recorded on Halloween 1989 and aired in November. And it featured Squeeze, Sidstraw, and Elliot Easton. But um, yeah, early episodes focused on newcomers, but the concept soon attracted massive stadium acts. A spontaneous legendary acoustic performance by John Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora at the 1989 MTV Music Video Awards proved that acoustic sets could be massive hits.

I'm sure we can reference the title of the show because it's a whole concept, the MTV unplugged. But I don't know, I don't want to make Viacom mad if we name our show Unplugged. So this is the non-electrical, the Amish edition of songs. Sort of. Some of I mean obviously like the Amish edition. Yeah, the Amish edition. Amish country. Yeah, everything everything's a little bit better when it comes from the Amish Country. So it's a little bit more uh well-crafted. So that's what we're doing.

I heard you threw a couple out, which I was I didn't say anything at the time that you had chosen them, and when you said you were throwing them out, I I wanted to give a hip hip hooray, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, um the unplugged unplugged is a whole vibe, right? It's a little slower, it's a little different. And um, some of the acts that made MTV Unplugged were kind of like grungy, slow, darker bands. Right. Uh, but you and I aren't really in that.

No, though this we we threw out a couple, but this next one is from a very iconic episode of MTV Unplugged. It's really important. I think it's one of the ones you and I vibed with.

So we liked it a little bit more. This is from 1993, and it was taped just months before the death of Frontman Kurt Cobain. Nirvana broke the traditional format by playing deep cuts, obscure covers, and avoiding most of their biggest hits. Um, so this is their stripped-down version of All Apologies. This is Nirvana. Sounds good to me! Yeah.

And I think they dove into it a little deeper, depending specifically how your legs are and how your arms are, can indicate how anxious you are. So, like, for example, I keep my arms way close to my chest, like wrapped around. I can see that. Sometimes I hug myself when I sleep, and I I heard that it can mean you're very anxious, which is true to me.

The Amish version of a l of of songs. The the we're celebrating. No electricity, yeah. We're we're celebrating uh acoustic covers of songs specifically from the M T V unplugged production machine. It was a TV show, but they also helped produce just like acoustic albums sometimes. Like that last one I played was technically an MTV unplugged album, but I think it wasn't like televised, it was just recorded. Um this next one that I'm gonna play wasn't even on MTV at all. It was on the PvC. I've been looking for an excuse for a long, long time to play this version of one of my favorite gorillas songs. This is on Melancholy Hill and a Christian version. Yeah, yeah. It's oh it's a lovely little love song. It's just about I mean, I don't know what it's about. Gorillas write songs about all kinds of things. I'll let you guys be the judge.

Um the nervic unplugged show happening just a couple of months before Kirk Hubin died, and then um and performing this a little bit after the death of the time. What would you say? Time capsule.

My sister loved to watch MTV when I was a kid. They had some pretty good reality shows, but as far as music goes, I think streaming killed the video start.
