David is an old radio "dj" (disc jockey) getting his brand of talk and humor on the airways since 1969. It’s the animals of the planet responsibility to fertilize the earth, it’s David’s to fertilize the airways. Given the nickname the General because of his last name which he had to convert daGaneral to franchise infringement. Making a reluctant transition to a completely different medium and inviting you to take the journey with him. In each episode he will be talking about life, society, music and everything in between and you might be lucky enough to get a new recipe or two. Episodes could include local guests with interviews about their lives.
After a year and a half rambling, Laren "Ren" Harris joined him, and they bring a whole new format to an ageing radio program. Ren started as David's engineer at KPRT-FM. She has vast experience in acting and is extremely witty. She brings in a fresh perspective and keeps David in line. She is a sci-fi nerd complete with customs. She has operated a bakery as well and they both love to cook!!! Each episode is designed to bring awareness, “wake you up”!

You know, Rand, I uh I I'm at a loss. I'm I have no clue what we're doing.
SPEAKER_01Until a few moments ago, Dave, I was with you. I also didn't know what we were gonna do for this show.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I saw your fingers over there. Smoke was coming from the keyboard.
SPEAKER_01I I had to whip up something real quick. And uh I figured why don't we pull the trigger on another spotlight episode or or basically just an episode of people you should know, artists you should know.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I like that even better.
SPEAKER_01For one of my um new favorite artists, uh this is Lobby Siffri. Or Siffray.
SPEAKER_04That's easy for you to say.
SPEAKER_01You'd be surprised it's not.
SPEAKER_03It's a brand new year and a brand new announcer, me, but I'll get to that later. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud as punched to present to you our go big or take a hike year, and now Ren and David 2026 edition.
SPEAKER_08Never did nobody know who know how that's why I don't cry. That's why I don't cry. Laughing sometimes, that's somebody some good somehow. That's why you're gonna be able to do it.

SPEAKER_04You know what? I used to have a show years ago on a country station. It was a call-in show. I was Cactus Jack Daniels, it was on KTRA, and it was like from six to midnight. It was called Crying, Loving, Leaving, or Laughing.
SPEAKER_10Really?
SPEAKER_04What are you doing? And that song was called?
SPEAKER_01It was called Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying. Very similar. I wonder if you guys didn't know.
SPEAKER_04I wish I thought of the lying part of it, because that would have worked out fine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, SJE, we are live and direct, baby. It's another Sunday, and we're one way closer to single awareness day.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah. It's February 1st. We were going, we we got the dates a little mixed up. We thought that the next show we were doing was for the February 8th, which we are going to be doing a crazy love show. Uh songs that are kind of about maybe unstable relationships, you know, maybe maybe borderline unhealthy relationships, but still, but still make for good songs. But then Red is about we were right when we were about to record, we realized, oh no, the next show we're doing is February 1st. What are we gonna do? So I I dusted off a couple of ideas, and now we're doing uh fingered Wren comes at it again. We're doing a spotlight show with uh lobby suffray.
SPEAKER_04Well listen, we will have uh this show we're gonna have not Debonese, but we're gonna have things that make you go, hmm, that'll be in this first half. And then of course the ever popular Xenobran will be in the next half.
SPEAKER_10Yes.
SPEAKER_04Um you know, I am I just really excited about the year we got coming up. I'm I'm excited about having George, and he's fun to work with. His wife, we're gonna have to get her on the show. She is a character and she keeps him in line. So yeah, she's real sweet. Real, real sweet.
SPEAKER_01George and I are a funny duo because I think we've only met in person the one time.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01But we both have that tendency to yes and each other with conversation. He'll say something and go, yes, and and then before you know it, it's been three hours and nothing has gotten done because all we've done is talking.
SPEAKER_04I had to break you guys up the first time you actually met.
SPEAKER_01It was fun, it was fun. So it would be nice to have a referee there to say, okay, that's enough, let's get to work.
SPEAKER_04We should put it on a timer. When the bell rings, okay.
SPEAKER_01Conversation over. I I tell people all the time that like the two things that I always got in trouble for in school were uh being late all the time and talking way too much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I don't know that I was because I'm really anal about being not on time, but ahead of time. At least ten minutes. If I'm if I'm not ten minutes early, I feel like I'm late.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_04And but I did talk a lot in school.
SPEAKER_01You and I would have gotten along on that on that wavelength.
SPEAKER_04Even in elementary school, got the trouble. I had to sit in front of the class.
SPEAKER_01You got moved around a lot, you had to sit in a desk all by yourself because no matter who you sat next to, you were talking to them.
SPEAKER_04It didn't matter. I didn't know a stranger.
SPEAKER_01I want to just defend myself slightly too. I like to be on time. I don't like to be late. It's just I don't know. I I'll think I'll have everything ready to go, and then I'm out the door, and then I realize I can't find my keys, and then it takes me 20 minutes to find my keys, and before you know it, I'm crying because I know I'm late. Anyway.
SPEAKER_04Is this a feminine thing?
SPEAKER_01Or is this It's an ADHD thing.
SPEAKER_04Oh, there you go.
SPEAKER_01My brain is so scattered that I think I'm ready to go. I think I'll have everything. And then at the last second, right before I'm about to leave, I realize, oh, I uh I never packed a lunch, or oh, uh, I don't have any of the things that I need for the day.
SPEAKER_04Well, I've done that too, and left, and like, oh, screw it, I'm gonna be on time no matter what. There you go. There you go. All right, well listen, I'm really excited about the music, and we're excited about the year.
SPEAKER_01Uh and the name of the the gentleman's name again is It is uh Lobby Siffrey, and I've been saying it wrong. I think I've been saying Lobby Sifri. So if I if I slip up and say that again, I'm sorry. He's still alive. Um he's eighty years old. Oh wow. He was born in London, England. I believe he still lives in England. Um but he's uh he's just a really cool folk singer. And one of his songs has gotten really popular online called Bless the Telephone. We played it on our Call Me show. I remember that, yeah. I think that was like last week or maybe two weeks ago.
SPEAKER_04Last week?
SPEAKER_01But he's really good. He's got a gorgeous voice, and he writes beautiful lyrics. So I'm excited to dive in with you.
SPEAKER_04Is it all right to say that a man has a pretty voice?
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. No, I'm I'm team, like I don't think it's I don't know what it is about.
SPEAKER_04Don't give it a gender.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I as Americans, we have to relate everything back to sexuality. I think it's okay to recognize that somebody has a pretty voice or pretty eyes. It doesn't mean you want to kiss them or anything like that.
SPEAKER_04Jump their bones.

SPEAKER_01And I had to look it up. Um Canok Chase, often referred to locally as just the Chase, is a mixed area of countryside in the coun county of Staffordshire, England. Staffordshire. Which is i it's it I I often forget Lobby Sifray is British because I don't know, his music sounds very like American folk music.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, yeah, I wouldn't have thought the name though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That doesn't sound British, the name.
SPEAKER_01Well, um his full name is a little bit more British, but even then he he kind of comes from a mixed background. His his full name is Claudius Affle. I'm so sorry if I mispronounced this. Claudius Affolabi Sifre. He was born in Hammersmith, London in 1945. And he is the fourth of five brothers to a British mother of white, British, and Afro Barbadian descent and a British Nigerian father.
SPEAKER_04There we go. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So he's British, much in the way that a lot of us are American. He comes from a mixed background. And a lot of Americans come from a mixed background. There you go. The best of the best.
SPEAKER_04That made me go, hmm.
SPEAKER_01Oh, interesting you should say that. That's right. You have a new intro. It took me a second to find it. And here it is.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't know whether I like that or not. I guess it's alright.
SPEAKER_01I like it. It's less bombastic than the previous one. Maybe not bombastic. Bombastic.

SPEAKER_01Now, two things that make you go hmm.
SPEAKER_04Oh, hunting unicorns is legal in Michigan.
SPEAKER_01You don't say.
SPEAKER_04I don't say. Lake Superior State University in Michigan offers a unicorn hunting license. Unsurprisingly, the chief herald of the unicorn hunters was once quoted saying, the pursuit of unicorn is a lonely quest. We wish them nothing but good luck. You know, I I I would never I'm not a big hunter to begin with. I mean, I have hunted deer. I've never shot one, but I've hunted. I have shot duck, and I have um shot squirrel, which I you know, I was younger, I kind of regret now. Because it wasn't really that good.
SPEAKER_01Um at least you probably, you know, made made use of it.
SPEAKER_04Right. Well, living in Louisiana was kind of like, you know, we fished, we hunted, all that kind of smoking. Exactly. Anyway, um uh I just unicorns to me ought to be worshipped.
SPEAKER_01I agree.
SPEAKER_04Is that too much to ask for? Okay.
SPEAKER_01They're I'm with you. At the very least, they're uh uh one of a kind. One of a kind of unicorns. So yeah, they're they're an endangered species, is what I was trying to say. They made a whole movie about it. The last unicorn from 1982. You know that one?
SPEAKER_04I don't, but I do know the only reason they were late for the arc is why that's what I've always heard. Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01They didn't make the arc, so they didn't they didn't make the them and the dragons and the griffins.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. They were late. They didn't get the memo. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Dang it. Oh, that's too bad. No, I'm I'm with you. Unicorns should be a protected species.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's the wake-up call, and of course, we are on KSJE 90.91033, and this is my friend, and always has been my friend for quite some time. We're in our eighth season. It's Miss Wren.
SPEAKER_01And and this is my good old supportive mentor. Taught me everything I know, buddy did.
SPEAKER_04That's a little scary.
SPEAKER_01Every single thing I know is from you, so if I do something wrong, it's technically your fault.
SPEAKER_04There you go. That's it. Now you're sounding like a wife.
SPEAKER_01I'm your work wife. Have you ever heard of that? Uh that phrase before, work wife, work husband. I always I always take it with a grain of salt, but sometimes you do get into those relationships with your coworkers. Like um, especially in in my specific job, uh, I'm a teacher, but I work in a pretty isolated by design classroom where for most days it's just me and one other person. And my new coworker is more just like my my work buddy. We're we're very similar, so we kind of just are like friends. But my previous coworker, we would bicker so much, it was hard not to think of him as my work husband. But he's off to bigger and better things now.
SPEAKER_04Well, I am so glad that you're working with the youth of America.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. I'm trying.
SPEAKER_04Well, I know. I've worked with him in the past too, at uh, you know, doing the culinary center and and that kind of stuff, and it did give me hope for the future.
SPEAKER_01Truly. Most of the people who complain about the youth of America, um, or just the youth in general, uh oftentimes they sound like people who have not talked to a kid in ten plus years.
SPEAKER_04Or maybe the wrong or the specific.
SPEAKER_01The wrong kid.
SPEAKER_04I haven't been around the wrong folks. I would like to say, speaking of kids, my youngest just had a baby. Well, he didn't, but his significant other did.
SPEAKER_01He was there for the whole thing. He was.
SPEAKER_04He was so proud of him. Um he was just well he was he never left her side. Uh ex well, except obviously to relieve himself. Thankfully. But yeah, he uh I I'm so proud. And when I saw him uh yesterday, as a matter of fact, he uh kind of had the shakes, right? And so I I figured it was from excitement. He goes, Dad, I'm on my ninth Red Bull, I gotta quit.
SPEAKER_01This was not the way to handle this stress. Yeah. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04So congratulations, and you know, I won't give out names or anything, but uh congrats to them.
SPEAKER_01It was exactly it was an intense story, and I'm so glad everybody's mature by uh six weeks. Yeah, but still strong.
SPEAKER_04The baby's strong. Oh yeah, didn't have to have the life support that they usually put on. Uh only had a heart monitor that was it just to make sure everything was okay. Good looking kid, yeah, very, very proud of him.
SPEAKER_01I'm so relieved. Thank you for keeping me updated on that too. Because I was very invested in it yesterday.
SPEAKER_04Sure, sure. It was nice because the bosses at the work at the place that I work at are like, what are you doing here? Get your butt. Well, they didn't say butt. To the hospital.
SPEAKER_01Get your hidequarters to the hospital. Exactly. So that's too cool.
SPEAKER_04All right, so the guy we're doing today, we're not calling it a spotlight, we're not telling him for your consideration, we're just calling it we're throwing it out there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Someone you should know about. Because like a lot of um acts that are international, he's probably a lot bigger in his home country than he might be in America. Like obviously he's had worldwide appeal since you know, he he's been active. He's been active since 1970. But he I would argue that he's only really gotten big in the really big in the States recently because a couple of his songs have kind of surfaced. But I I don't want to say like here's somebody you've never heard of. Here's an underground artist. Well I had never heard of him. Because our British listeners might say, You don't know Lobby Sifray? Everybody knows Lobby Sifray.

SPEAKER_02So I have an idea that I would incorporate into a presentation that I'll give and I'd do a little survey of what is your walk-up song? What is your motivational song? So I just had some music playing just today and had one of the popular songs from the greatest showman called This Is Me. So I think a lot of people have their inspiration song that gets them motivated and pumped up.
SPEAKER_04You know, and when you asked me that the other day in the chair, I was like, you know, I there's so many. I hit the table, made Rin grin.
SPEAKER_01Well, it made my can go I thought that was funny.
SPEAKER_04Anyway. Anyway, I um I I I couldn't come up with one particular, so I'm gonna work on that and we're gonna put it out there to the audience. But you'll notice about halfway through, there is an incredibly famous hook in it that uh Eminem used in one of his songs. Oh wow. And once you hear it, if you're f if you're familiar with Eminem, you'll recognize it right off the bat.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, a lot of dress up stuff, I know.
SPEAKER_01October's the big month for us because not only there's Derek's birthday is in October, then there's Halloween, and then there's my birthday, so in November. So those those like three weeks are a big deal for us. But February, we're just kind of like, ah, I love you, babe. You want to watch a movie? I guess.
SPEAKER_04For me, Valentine's Day is kind of like St. Patty's Day and New Year's Eve. You know, those those are all for amateur drinkers that have so Valentine's typically is for all you amateur lovers out there that yeah, amateurs.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I would, you know, there's something to that. Because I would say Valentine's Day is is bigger for people who are in newer relationships when you feel like you have to prove your love. But Derek and I have been together ten years this year. So it's kind of like we know we love each other.
SPEAKER_04Well, let me ask you something too. So next week we are before the 8th, which is the woo the Sunday before Valentine's Day, which happens to fall on Friday this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, or a Saturday.
SPEAKER_04Which is Saturday.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um sorry about that. Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god! Oh before Valentine's Day. That's gonna be cursed. Oh, I love that though.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, it sort of externalized itself through legs and walked out. There's a new there's a new Wuthering Heights movie coming out, which of course I have opinions on because I'm a purist. It's not like the book, How Dare It. But um no, that sort of inspired a playlist of songs where it's like people are kind of crazy in love with each other for better or for worse. So stay tuned for that.
SPEAKER_04I'm excited about it. Uh plus we check it out our webpage too because we're getting new pictures on there. We're just gonna have some fun this year.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna have some fun because let our hair down. Yeah. In previous years we've tried too hard or maybe not hard enough, and then this year we're just gonna be goofy with it.
SPEAKER_04I don't know, Ren. You're still kinda this morning when we were going through this. You're still kind of a little anal.
SPEAKER_01You were like, are you ready for the show? And I'm like, I guess. I mean, I don't like it. You're like, okay, well what else do you want to do? And I was like, I don't know. So that's why I'm kinda glad that we ended up doing lobby sifre, because he's doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this episode. All of his music is good.

SPEAKER_01Who uh yeah, is just a cool British dude. Um he's kind of like the Beatles, where if you only ever heard him sing, you'd be like, ah, that's an American. And then you hear him talk, and he's the most proper British gentleman you've ever heard.

Uh the stuff that I found when I when I first started researching him was was much more folk, but he definitely has some like groovy albums. But um he's British, so my next quote is gonna be British. Uh it is based on the classic English reverse, which is may you live in interesting times. Which is to say, you know, the most interesting times throughout all of history are also really tumultuous and scary when you live in them. So let me play the intro. Let me play the intro.
