Hip fractures occur about 300,000 times per year in the United States.
There is approximately a 5% risk of death in the hospital when you are admitted with a hip fracture.
Many patients may lose a function grade and require a cane or walker even after successful treatment.
You may prevent the risk of a fracture by being checked and treated for osteoporosis, checking your home for things which can increase the chance of a fall. Exercises which focus on balance can help reduce the risk of a fall. And, getting your eyes checked may help vision related issues which can lead to tripping and falling.
