Day 11

Scripture Meditation: Philippians 4:11-13 11 “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Action Steps:

"
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." -C.S. Lewis

As soon as you’re able, read C.S. Lewis’ words above to your family and ask them what they think it means. Then openly discuss the following:

  • What do you think it means to be satisfied in Christ alone? Does that actually seem satisfying? Why or why not?
  • If everything were taken away from you, do you realistically think you’d be able to sing the words “It is well with my soul” and mean them? Why or why not?
  • Do you think it’s possible to desire Jesus and nothing else? Why or why not? What would it take to get to that point?
