Jaclyn
We are so excited to welcome you to The Freq Show podcast, where we center our content around the frequency of belief.
Sam
Why? Because when we overcome fear and self-doubt, basically by getting out of our own way, we can make the impossible possible.
Jaclyn
And in this podcast, we are going to share our favorite mindset tools and life lessons that have completely transformed our lives and businesses, so without further ado,
Both
Let's get Freqy!
Jaclyn
Welcome to The Freq show, everyone. We are so excited to have you here. This podcast is a couple years in the making, and Sam and I are honored to bring you into our online fam.
Sam
Yeah, absolutely we've been talking about doing this for a long time, and finally buckling down and doing it out
Jaclyn
Yeah, so I'm gonna start with a question. I love a good question because I feel like good questions lead to good answers. Sam, why are we starting this podcast?
Sam
Okay, so I'm going to try to articulate this as well as I did earlier when we were kind of going through the plan for the episode and doing a dry run. So it, it's, the thing is we are living our dream life right now in the present day and I think in the past I have had this mindset of okay well you know when we have the the 200-acre ranch in Montana or the private jet or the helicopter, you know, and all all those kind of all the trappings of what Instagram tells you is success in life. Once we have all that, then we'll be living the dream life, but what we have realized is we are living that now we have, we work with our best friend, I mean, I hope I'm your best friend...
Jaclyn
You're definitely my best friend.
Sam
We have a beautiful, healthy son. We have wonderful family friends, and our network is continuing to grow. We love where we live, and we love what we do day in and day out, and...
Jaclyn
I can't wait for Monday mornings.
Sam
Yeah, and we get to make our schedule pretty much, we have autonomy over our lives, which is how it should be and so I say all that to say the dream life is not in the future while we're going to continue to grow and do really cool things, and you know, we'll have all that we're living the dream life today and that's not by mistake, that's all by intention and so back to your question of "Why are we doing the podcast? We want to be able to share our journey and what we've learned along the way, and how we have been intentional about creating our dream life, and like here we are, like it's all a sudden it's here and you're doing it, and so that's really it.
I think we want to just share how the frequency of belief has brought us to where we are today, you know, and among other things, we obviously want to grow and scale our business and be able to network with people and have a broader reach, grow our community... But at the end of the day, I think it's it's more just about sharing our journey, sharing what we've learned, continuing to learn, and paying it forward
Jaclyn
Yeah, and if we can save you guys some time by sharing some of the mistakes that we've made, then we want to do that.
Sam
Yeah, so I don't know if I mentioned the frequency of belief, but that is a term that you coined not too long ago. What would you say is your definition of the frequency of belief?
Jaclyn
So, honestly I don't know that I did coin this because it woke me up in the night and I believe that it was a download directly from God, and we had already picked out our podcast name The Freq Show and Freq are, whoa, mango, Freq F R E Q stands for frequency. And we talk so much in our lives about frequency and what frequency are we living at, at what time and how that makes us feel, and how it affects our lives, and so we had named the podcast The Freq Show, but I wanted The Freq Show to center on one primary tenant and when I got this download in the night, I heard the frequency of belief. That is what you are living on right now, the frequency of belief, and it resonated so deeply I could feel it in my bones. And I was like, that's exactly what the key to us living the life that we have worked so hard to live, that has been the primary catalyst to getting to where we are, is this frequency of belief.
So let me tell you guys, this frequency is a vibe and it's an active belief, an active belief that your dreams can be made a reality, and it's an acting, moving over and pushing past fear and doubt, and specifically self-doubt, that leads to self-sabotage. Now if you have been following me for any period of time then you know that I worked for about four years on a podcast called Self-worth with Jaclyn Steele and if you listen to any of those episodes then you know I love a good story and you know I love examples so I'm going to give you some examples of what it is to live on the frequency of belief versus what it is not like to live on the frequency of belief.
So since we're working on a podcast, I feel like this is a perfect example. Let's say you're somebody who wants to start a podcast. The person who lives on the frequency of belief is going to have that beautiful initial brainchild idea for a
podcast, and this person who is living on the frequency of belief is then going to
maybe write down some concepts or some different ideas for episodes they're going to look into, how to publish this, they're going to come to Pod Populi where we are recording right now, and they're going to record the episodes, they're going to get it out into the world, they are going to hit publish come hell or high water and put this podcast out. They push past the doubt, they push past fear. The person who is not living on the frequency of belief may have an equally amazing podcast idea, and then maybe they start working on it, and they're getting excited, and they're so excited that they're levitating from the excitement, right? But then they tell a friend, and this friend is somebody who's a little bit of a Debbie Downer, and they take the wind out of this person's sails, and if this person is able to push past the doubt from their friend, maybe they will continue to move forward, but then as you get tested and obstacles come up along the way, like anything does in life, this person is going to find an excuse after excuse after excuse not to hit publish, not to bring their podcast idea to fruition. They just don't have enough belief in themselves to do so.
So that is a very easy example of what living on the frequency of belief versus not living on the frequency of belief is like and I want to give you another example in case you have zero interest in starting a podcast which is totally fine but let's say you're in a scenario where money is tight and you're really feeling the squeeze and we've all been there, we have all been there including Sam and I. The person who is living on the frequency of belief, instead of obsessing over the amount of money in their bank account and obsessing over every little move they make, this person is going to think about the big picture, they are going to envision what it feels like to have X amount of dollars in their bank account and they are going to work steadily every day to change their current circumstances. They are not going to focus on the doubt, they are not going to focus on the fear, they will experience those things because that is part of what happens as a human but they will actively decide in those moments to choose faith over fear, to actively say "I believe that abundance is coming for me", "I believe that tomorrow is going to be an even more amazing day than today". It is a very active way of being, and it is a very active way of thinking.
Now, the person who is not living on the frequency of belief, same scenario, money is tight, they're really feeling the squeeze. They are going to obsess over the amount of money in their bank account, they are going to make a bunch of excuses, they might frantically look for jobs and take the first one that comes their way even though they know in their guts that that job is not the right one from for them and they will overall be in a state of panic and be on the defense instead of offense. I feel like a great way to describe or determine whether you're living on that frequency of belief is to ask yourself "Am I living offensively?" not like offending other people but like on offense to use a football metaphor or "Am I living on defense?" and you want to be living on offense does that make sense?
Sam
Absolutely, yeah, and we've been both of those, we've played both of those scenarios out...
Jaclyn
Big time, big time.
Sam
And honestly, I think we'd love to talk about it, or we are centering a podcast around it because understanding this concept is a GameChanger for everyone, not only...
Jaclyn
It changes the whole trajectory of where you're going.
Sam
Yeah, and so to cut straight to it, the frequency of belief... What that frequency... When we talk frequency, we're talking about energy, and we're talking about alignment, and so aligning our energy with belief, right? And when we align our energy with belief versus fear or whatever the negative potential is, when we align with belief, that changes our actions, so ultimately our actions are going to be what produce the results. But it all starts with that frequency of belief.
Jaclyn
Yeah, you're coming from an empowered state versus a disempowered state.
Sam
Right.
Jaclyn
Yeah
Sam
Yeah, so if I may...
Jaclyn
Yeah
Sam
Yeah, so I think, one of the, maybe one of the seeds that was planted when you termed "frequency of belief" was a result of a book that we both read by Jason Drees, it's called Do the Impossible, and Jason Drees is a mindset coach. He is Brandon Turner's mindset coach from Bigger Pockets, and it's a fantastic book; we highly recommend it. It was a game-changer of a book for both of us, me especially, but he more or less puts into application how do you do it. Like it's one thing to just sit here and say "Oh you got to have this frequency of belief, you got to just be all in and good things are going to happen it is as simple as that" but at the same time it's helpful to have a guide and it's helpful to have a step-by-step process that you can follow. For me, I love being able to to have something like that that kind of keeps me in line, puts the bumper on the side of the of the bowling alley or whatever keep the the ball going down the lane, but the way that he explained, explains the process in his book has been so helpful for me and what that details is he focuses on frames and what frames are, are basically your goals. So your goal is your frame and within that frame your energy is either aligned with that frame or it's not aligned and if it's not aligned that's when you experience fear, that's when you experience doubt, anxiety, all of these things that all of us, all the negative emotions are, you know, have dealt with. Especially if you're an entrepreneur and you're, you have your own business, I mean it's, there are definitely more scarier things out there, but there's a lot of fear that comes along with being an entrepreneur, and being in business. So he outlines how you align yourself with frames and to me it was really it was a more applicable way of explaining it, but it's kind of along the same lines as The Secret, The Sacred. It's just a little less whispery and a little less, you know, woo woo. But it's sort of the same concept in that, it's all about aligning your energy with what you want, with your target, with your, with your...
Jaclyn
And we loved The Secret. We listened to it over a decade ago on our drive moving from California to Georgia and I think so many of the concepts in there are great where I think The Secret missed the mark The Sycrat missed the mac is that they didn't talk enough about action and alignment like, you can think of a car you want all day long, all week long, all month long, but if you don't take action and you don't go to the dealership and test drive it and work to get the money for it it's not going to happen so I think Jason Drees, he's just such a great communicator and the book is short but he makes, I mean the book is called Do the Impossible. He makes what you think in your head, what you make out to be impossible, very possible by shifting frames or shifting mindset.
Sam
Yeah, and you don't have to, you don't have to have all the answers today, you know it's more about...
Jaclyn
And you won't. You won't have all the answers today...
Sam
It's more about generating those feelings, and that's what really, that little just tweak in the process from as opposed to, you know, you hear a lot about visualizing, like get as specific with your visualization as you possibly can, I'm not knocking that, that's important and it's very useful for a lot of people, but what the focus is in this book is about feeling the feeling of those things. So, instead of
sitting there and trying to picture it in your mind, you are focused on feeling the energy and feeling what it feels like to have our podcast, have the recording go really well, and go without a hitch, off without a hitch, and we're super excited about it or that deal that we're looking to fund having that money come in and fund right on time and close with ease, those sorts of things having those feelings
and just sitting in those feelings and having that ultimately change your frequency to a frequency of belief that is aligned with your target. I think I said "frame was the goal", "frames are goal", but I think it's "target is the goal" and...
Jaclyn
That's right, yeah, but go read the book, Do The Impossible by Jason
Drees.
And you know what, if you comment on our latest Instagram post on @beckonliving, you'll automatically be entered to win a copy of the book and we will send this out to somebody because it has been such a game changer for us we've actually purchased it and given it to multiple people now and we'd love to give it to one of you.
So I feel like we should share a personal story that we feel like would illustrate us not living on the frequency of belief that, yeah, I feel like personal stories just really drive the point home
Sam
Mmm, okay, yeah. You want to go first?
Jaclyn
Sure! Okay! So in my 20s, I was, and early 30s, I was a full-time musician. I love music, I have always loved music, I love songwriting, I enjoy performing, I absolutely like beyond a shadow of doubt love being in a recording studio and creating it, is just one of the happiest places I have ever, ever, ever experienced, and while I had so much belief in my love for creating and in my love of making music, I did not have the self-confidence, the self-worth, the ability to overcome the self-doubt to promote myself and put my music out there in a way that the music business requires, which is like relentless confidence in what you are doing. I had moments, I had incredible moments of manifestation, I remember being with you in Savannah, Georgia and saying I've got to get a band together, I need to book some shows, and I think within a week I had several shows lined up and new band, so there were moments that I really believed in myself, and I believed that anything was possible but there were more moments that I hung back and I would describe it as like waiting to be discovered rather than actively putting myself out there and putting myself in a position to win.
Now, I don't have regrets about that I feel like our lives have ended up exactly where they are supposed to be so, so I forgive that version of myself, that precious slightly naive innocent version of myself but were I to do it again I would have approached the business side of my music totally differently. I would have been so much more aggressive, and I mean that in a very good way, in promoting myself and in showing others how much I've believed in my music and what I was saying and the stories that I was sharing, versus really hanging back and waiting to be discovered.
Sam
Yeah, yeah, I mean, there is no, I don't know anybody who gets it right straight
out of the gate. Even the people that we think do that are we think are overnight successes or whatever, they've had to go through the cycles, they've had to learn those lessons as well. So there's no need to beat ourselves up for these things that we just haven't learned yet. I mean, we always talk about, we go back to that conversation in Sebastapol about how learning is cyclical and how you have an upward trajectory, but you kind of come back and you learn the same things over and over again, you're just in different environments, different scenarios and
you're on different levels, really. But, okay, awesome...
Jaclyn
Yeah, so it's your turn.
Sam
Okay! All right, so I'm gonna throw two things out there really quickly when we talked about the episode, I was going to hit on me playing college football, and I
went to the Air Force Academy to play college football, and it just didn't work out, you know? Young kid. I think had I known what I know now and been able to approach it with a different mindset, things would have been a lot different, but at the same time, it was exactly what needed to happen. I needed to have that experience because that was my first, I'll call it, really, I'm going to call it a failure to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish, but ultimately it taught me so much in that, multiple things, and that at the end of the day it comes down to me and my actions and my attitude if I'm going to, if something doesn't happen the way that I want it to happen, I take full responsibility for that and that was the the biggest lesson around that. But as far as the frequency of belief goes, I just had zero
confidence. At the year or two of playing college football, I had just lost all belief in myself. I was a practice squad player, just didn't. didn't even believe in myself, so how was I going to get...
Jaclyn
You went from being like a high school star to, yeah, and that can be a shock at that at that time in your life. Well, I mean, I experienced some of that too, where you have some wins when you're young and then life hits you, and it can feel devastating, like you forget who you are.
Sam
Yeah, will you define yourself as someone for X part of your life, and when that is,
when that goes out the window, you have to redefine yourself and kind of go back and reevaluate.
Jaclyn
Yeah, I have one more thing to add to that. I think one of the reasons you and I got along so well when we first met is that we are both extremelyconscientious people we are just kind by nature and our actions at that time in our young 20s were to hang back and work so hard that we hoped somebody would notice our value by us working hard and showing up and having having a good attitude and I'm proud of us, I think that that's so sweet, but in today's
world, you have to have a little bit more bark and bite
Sam
Absolutely.
Jaclyn
In order to really succeed. Now, we can still be kind and be conscientious and be thoughtful and work hard, but we also have to self-promote. We have to have a podcast. We have to do the things. We can't wait for other people to tell us our value.
Sam
Right, absolutely, yeah. So, all lessons learned the hard way, but at the same time, exactly what we needed. The other example I was going to use or going to put out there was partnerships and how that relates to my lack of belief, and so, what I'm I'm saying is I always looked for partnerships. I looked for a team, I look to be surrounded by other people because I, not that partnerships can't be great they can be fantastic and they can serve a lot of purposes, but I think what I did for a long time was I looked for partnerships because I didn't have that belief in myself that I could do it individually and make it happen individually, so I, I would say not that that was a failure but I think a growth point was recognizing "Hey, you don't need other people to be successful" and don't take that the wrong way like, nobody does it alone, but you, "I" do have the ability to be successful without surrounding myself with a bunch of other people as far as partners go.
Jaclyn
I experienced the same thing. You don't need, I'm speaking to all of the beautiful listeners, you don't need need to wait for someone to tell you you're ready, you don't need to wait for someone to tell you you are good enough, you don't need to wait, you can begin now. Whether you're in a partnership or not, I think it's just important that we put one foot in front of the other and get going.
Sam
Yeah, so I think I'm excited for this podcast because we are going to be able to talk about all the stuff that we that we really enjoy with the baseline of energy and alignment and creating our realities, like that's, that's the core of it. We're going to talk some real estate, investing, we're going to talk design, and just all the cool stuff that we're into, so...
Jaclyn
Yeah, all the cool stuff we're into. So, what we hope you will get from this podcast... Several things. We want to get to know you guys, and we want to create some awesome friendships. We want to give insight on implementing a lifestyle where the frequency of belief is something you actively feel and practice and derive benefits from daily, because it has, I know people overuse this phrase, but it has literally changed our lives. It creates such excitement when we wake up in the morning, it creates so much for us to talk about during the day or at the end of the day, something that we often talk about before bed, like, what are we going to do the next day? What does your day look like? And it sets the tone. What else do we want people to get from this podcast?
Sam
Yeah, so I think that we want to share with folks how we have learned to dispel doubt. Specifically, that doubt that can create self-sabotage, and being aware of that self-sabotage. Moving past fear. Why do we have it? Why does it exist? How can we use it? And ultimately, how can we neutralize its negative effects? Some different tried and true tactics as far as being a successful entrepreneur, real estate investor, and just someone who, people who love their life in general and want to share that with other people. Spiritual practices, relationship practices, and just lessons and experience that we've, you know, learned the hard way too.
Jaclyn
And when we say we love our lives, that does not mean our lives are without hardship. We have had plenty of sleepless nights, plenty of anxiety and panic attacks and highs and lows but ultimately like Sam said at the beginning of the episode we have worked very hard and been very intentional on creating a life by design and designing life that we really, really enjoy living on a daily basis and so we feel like we have won, feel like we've won the lottery but we also know that we haven't done anything extraordinary and so anything that we've done you can absolutely implement to your life too. To create that life that you have always dreamt of living. It doesn't have to be a dream, it can be a reality.
Sam
Right, and I think that, like you said, it doesn't mean that we don't face adversity day in day out, but it is simply living on a frequency where adversity triggers a different response than it used to. Where it used to trigger a fear response, now it triggers a "Hey, this is an opportunity" response.
Jaclyn
Yeah, the curiousness. The curiosity.
Sam
Applying that to life in general.
Jaclyn
Mhm, so let's wrap up this first episode with a question. Again, I love a good question because I feel like it leads to great answers.
Listeners, what is something you are struggling with right now, that if you practice the frequency of belief, might change drastically?
