00:01 Welcome to The Freq Show podcast hosted
00:03 by Sam Thurmond and Jaclyn Steele Thurmond
00:06 Sam is an Air Force Academy graduate and
00:09 veteran who after his service and two
00:11 deployments escaped the 9-to-5 grind by
00:14 building a real estate investing
00:16 business that has to date accounted for
00:18 over $50 million in real estate
00:21 transactions Jaclyn is an
00:23 award-winning musician former owner of
00:25 Boutique branding agency Steele
00:27 International real estate investor and
00:30 designer for luxury multi-million dollar
00:32 homes we are so excited to welcome you
00:35 to The Freq Show podcast where we
00:37 Center our content around the frequency
00:38 of belief why because when we overcome
00:41 fear and self-doubt basically by getting
00:44 out of our own way we can make the
00:45 impossible possible and in this podcast
00:49 we are going to share our favorite
00:50 mindset tools and life lessons that have
00:52 completely transformed our lives and
00:54 businesses so without further Ado let's
00:57 get Freqy Welcome to the Freq show
00:59 everyone we are so excited to have you
01:01 here this podcast is a couple years in
01:03 the making and Sam and I are honored to
01:06 bring you into our online fam yeah
01:10 absolutely we've been talking about
01:11 doing this for a long time and finally
01:14 buckling down and and doing it out yeah
01:17 so I'm gonna start with a question I
01:19 love a good question because I feel like
01:21 good questions lead to good answers Sam
01:24 why are we starting this
01:25 podcast okay so I'm going to try to
01:28 articulate this as well as I did earlier
01:32 when we were kind of going through the
01:35 the plan for the episode and um doing a
01:38 dry run
01:40 so it
01:42 it's the thing is is we are living our
01:47 dream life right now in the present day
01:51 and I think in the past I have had this
01:56 uh mindset of okay well you know when we
02:00 have the the 200 acre ranch in Montana
02:03 or the private jet or the helicopter you
02:05 know and all all those kind of all the
02:08 trappings of what Instagram tells you uh
02:12 is success in life once we have all that
02:15 then we'll be living the dream life but
02:18 what we have realized is we are living
02:20 that now we have we work with our uh
02:25 best friend I mean I hope I'm your best
02:27 friend you're definitely my best friend
02:29 we have a beautiful healthy Sun we have
02:34 wonderful family friends and our network
02:37 is continuing to grow we love where we
02:39 live and we love what we do day in and
02:43 day out and I can't wait for Monday
02:45 mornings yeah and we get to make our
02:48 schedule pretty much we have autonomy
02:51 over our lives which is how it should be
02:55 and
02:55 so I say all that to say the dream life
03:00 is not in the future while we're going
03:01 to continue to grow and do really cool
03:03 things and you know we'll have all that
03:06 we're living the dream life today and
03:09 that's not by mistake that's all by
03:12 intention and so back to your question
03:14 of why are we doing the
03:16 podcast we want
03:19 to be able to share our journey and what
03:23 we've learned along the way and how we
03:26 have been intentional uh uh intentional
03:29 about creating our dream life and like
03:32 here we are here we are like it's all a
03:35 sudden it's here and you're doing it um
03:38 and uh so that's really it I think we
03:41 want to just share how the frequency of
03:43 belief has brought us brought us to
03:45 where we are today um you know and among
03:48 other things we we obviously want to
03:50 grow and scale our business and uh be
03:53 able to network with people and have a
03:55 broader reach um grow our community and
03:59 um but at the end of the day I think
04:01 it's it's more just about sharing our
04:02 journey sharing what we've learned
04:04 contining to learn and paying it forward
04:06 yeah and if we can save you guys some
04:08 time by sharing some of the mistakes
04:10 that we've made then we want to do that
04:12 yeah so
04:15 um I don't know if I mentioned the
04:18 frequency of belief but that is that is
04:20 a term that you coined not too long ago
04:23 what would you say is your definition of
04:26 the frequency of
04:28 belief so
04:30 honestly I don't know that I did coin
04:31 this because it woke me up in the night
04:33 and I believe that it was a download
04:34 directly from God and we had already
04:37 picked out our podcast name The Freq
04:39 Show and Freq
04:43 are whoa
04:44 mango freq FREQ stands for frequency
04:50 and we talk so much in our lives about
04:53 frequency and what frequency are we
04:55 living at at what time and how that
04:57 makes us feel and how it affects our
04:58 lives and so we had named the podcast
05:02 the Freq Show um but I wanted the Freq
05:05 Show to Center on one primary tenant and
05:09 when I got this download in the night I
05:11 heard the frequency of belief that is
05:14 what you are living on right now the
05:16 frequency of
05:18 belief and it resonated so deeply I
05:21 could feel it in my bones and I was like
05:23 that's exactly what the key to us living
05:27 the life that we have worked so hard to
05:30 live that has been the primary Catalyst
05:32 to getting to where we are is this
05:34 frequency of belief so let me tell you
05:37 guys this frequency is a Vibe and it's
05:39 an active belief an active belief that
05:43 your dreams can be made a reality and
05:45 it's an acting moving over and pushing
05:48 past fear and doubt and specifically
05:52 self-doubt that leads to
05:55 self-sabotage now if you have been
05:57 following me for any period of time then
05:59 you know that I worked for about four
06:01 years on a podcast called self-worth
06:03 with Jaclyn Steele and if you listen to
06:06 any of those episodes then you know I
06:07 love a good story and you know I love
06:10 examples so I'm going to give you some
06:12 examples of what it is to live on the
06:14 frequency of belief versus what it is
06:18 not like to live on the frequency of
06:21 belief so since we're working on a
06:23 podcast I feel like this is a perfect
06:24 example let's say you're somebody who
06:26 wants to start a podcast the person who
06:29 lives on the frequency of belief is
06:31 going to have that beautiful initial
06:35 brainchild idea for a
06:38 podcast and this person who is living on
06:40 the frequency of belief is then going to
06:43 maybe write down some Concepts or some
06:44 different ideas for episodes they're
06:46 going to look into how to publish this
06:48 they're going to come to pod populi
06:50 where we are recording right now and
06:52 they're going to record the episodes
06:54 they're going to get it out into the
06:56 world they are going to hit publish come
06:58 hell or high water and put this podcast
07:02 out they push past the doubt they push
07:04 past fear the person who is not living
07:07 on the frequency of belief may have an
07:10 equally amazing podcast idea and then
07:15 maybe they start working on it and
07:16 they're getting excited and they're so
07:18 excited that they're levit they're
07:19 levitating from the excitement right but
07:22 then they tell a friend and this friend
07:25 is somebody who's a little bit of a
07:27 Debbie Downer and they take the wind out
07:30 of this person's sales and if if this
07:35 person is able to pass P push past the
07:39 doubt from their friend maybe they will
07:41 continue to move forward but then as you
07:44 get tested and obstacles come up along
07:46 the way like anything does in life this
07:49 person is going to find excuse after
07:52 excuse after excuse not to hit publish
07:54 not to bring their podcast idea to
07:57 fruition they just don't have enough
07:59 belief in themselves to do so so that is
08:03 a very um easy example of what living on
08:07 the frequency of belief versus not
08:09 living on the frequency of belief is
08:10 like and I want to give you another
08:12 example in case you have zero interest
08:14 in starting a podcast which is totally
08:16 fine but let's say you're in a scenario
08:18 where money is tight and you're really
08:21 feeling the squeeze and we've all been
08:24 there we have all been there including
08:27 samai the person who is living on the
08:29 frequency of belief instead of obsessing
08:34 over the amount of money in their bank
08:36 account and obsessing over every little
08:38 move they make this person is going to
08:41 think about the big picture they are
08:43 going to Envision what it feels like to
08:45 have X amount of dollars in their bank
08:47 account and they are going to work
08:49 steadily every day to change their
08:52 current
08:54 circumstances they are not going to
08:56 focus on the doubt they are not going to
08:58 focus on the fear they will experience
09:00 those things because that is part of
09:02 what happens as a human but they will
09:05 actively decide in those moments to
09:06 choose Faith over fear to actively say I
09:11 believe that abundance is coming for me
09:14 I believe that tomorrow is going to be
09:17 an even more amazing day than today it
09:21 is a very active way of being and it is
09:24 a very active way of
09:27 thinking now the person who is not
09:30 living on the frequency of belief same
09:32 scenario money is tight they're really
09:34 feeling the squeeze they are going to
09:37 obsess over the amount of money in their
09:39 bank account they are going to make a
09:41 bunch of excuses they might frantically
09:44 look for jobs and take the first one
09:46 that comes their way even though they
09:48 know in their guts that that job is not
09:50 the right one from for them um and they
09:53 will
09:55 overall be in a state of panic
09:59 and be on the defense instead of offense
10:03 I feel like a a great way to describe
10:07 or determine whether you're living on
10:09 that frequency of belief is to ask
10:11 yourself am I living offensively not
10:14 like offending other people but like on
10:16 offense to use a football metaphor or am
10:19 I living on defense and you want to be
10:23 living on offense does that make sense
10:26 absolutely yeah and we've been both of
10:29 those we've played both of those
10:31 scenarios out big time and and honestly
10:34 I think we'd love to talk about it um or
10:38 or we we are centering a podcast around
10:41 it
10:44 because understanding this concept um
10:47 has is is a GameChanger for uh for
10:51 everyone not only changes the whole
10:53 trajectory of where you're going yeah
10:55 and so to cut straight to it the
10:57 frequency of belief what that frequency
11:00 when we talk frequency we're talking
11:01 about energy and we're talking about
11:04 alignment and so aligning our energy
11:08 with belief right and when we align our
11:10 energy with belief versus fear or
11:14 whatever the negative um potential is
11:18 when we align with belief that changes
11:20 our actions so ultimately our actions
11:23 are going to be what produce the results
11:26 but it all starts with that frequency of
11:28 belief you're coming from an empowered
11:30 State versus a disempowered state right
11:33 yeah yeah so if I may yeah yeah so I
11:38 think
11:39 um one of the maybe this this one of the
11:43 seeds that was planted when uh you
11:45 termed frequency of belief was a result
11:49 of a book that we both read by Jason
11:52 Drees it's called do the impossible and
11:54 uh Jason Dre is a mindset coach he uh he
11:58 is Brandon Turner's uh mindset coach
12:01 from Bigger Pockets and it's a fantastic
12:03 book we highly recommend it um it was a
12:07 a GameChanger of a book for both of us
12:09 me especially but um he uh he he more or
12:15 less puts into application how do you do
12:18 it like it's one thing to just sit here
12:20 and say oh you got to have this
12:22 frequency of belief you got to just be
12:24 all in and good things are going to
12:26 happen it is as simple as that but at
12:29 the same time it's helpful to have a
12:32 guide and it's it's helpful to have a
12:35 step-by-step process that you can follow
12:37 for me I love being able to to have
12:39 something like that that kind of keeps
12:41 me in in line puts the bumper on the
12:44 side of the of the bowling alley or
12:46 whatever keep the the ball going down
12:47 the lane um but the way that he
12:51 explained explains uh the process in his
12:55 book has been so helpful for me and and
13:00 uh what that details is is he he focuses
13:05 on frames and what frames are are
13:09 basically your goals M so your goal is
13:12 your frame and within that frame your
13:15 energy is either aligned with that frame
13:18 or it's not aligned and if it's not
13:20 aligned that's when you experience fear
13:22 that's when you experience doubt anxiety
13:25 all of these things that all of us all
13:27 the negative emotions are
13:29 uh uh you know have dealt with
13:32 especially if you're an entrepreneur and
13:33 you're you have your own business I mean
13:35 it's there are definitely more the
13:37 scarier things out there
13:40 but there's a lot of fear that comes
13:42 along with being an entrepreneur and
13:44 being in business
13:46 your um so he outlines how you align
13:51 yourself with frames and to me it was
13:54 really it was a more applicable way of
13:58 explaining it but it's kind of along the
14:00 same lines as the secret the CET it's
14:03 just a little less whispery and a little
14:05 less you know woo woo but it's sort of
14:08 the same concept in that um it's all
14:10 about aligning your energy with what you
14:12 want with your target with your with
14:14 your friend and we loved the secret we
14:16 listened to it over a decade ago on our
14:18 Drive moving from California to Georgia
14:21 and I think so many the comp Concepts in
14:23 there are great where I think the secret
14:25 missed the mark the pyrat missed the Mac
14:28 is that they didn't talk enough about
14:31 action mhm and Alignment like you can
14:33 think of a car you want all day long all
14:37 week long all month long but if you
14:39 don't take action and you don't go to
14:40 the dealership and test drive it and
14:42 work to get the money for it it's not
14:44 going to happen so I think Jason Dre has
14:47 he's just such a great communicator and
14:49 the book is short but he makes I mean
14:52 the book is called do the impossible he
14:55 makes what you think in your head what
14:58 you make out to be impossible very
15:00 possible by shifting frames or shifting
15:04 mindset yeah and you don't have to you
15:06 don't have to have all the answers today
15:09 you know it's more about you won't you
15:11 won have all the ANS more about
15:13 generating those feelings and that's
15:16 what really that little just tweak in
15:19 the process from as opposed to you know
15:22 you hear a lot about visualizing like
15:24 get as specific with your visualization
15:27 as you Poss can I'm not knocking that
15:31 that's important and it's very useful
15:33 for a lot of people but what the focus
15:35 is in this book is about feeling the
15:38 feeling of those things so instead of
15:42 sitting there and trying to picture it
15:44 in your mind you are focused on
15:46 feeling the energy and feeling what it
15:49 feels like to have our
15:52 podcast uh have the recording go really
15:54 well and go without a hitch off without
15:56 a hitch and we're super excited about it
15:58 or um that deal that we're looking to
16:01 fund having that money come in and fund
16:04 right on time and close with EAS those
16:05 sorts of things having those feelings
16:08 and just sitting in those feelings and
16:10 having that ultimately change your
16:13 frequency to a frequency of belief that
16:15 is aligned with your target I think I
16:17 said frame was the goal frames are goal
16:20 but I think it's Target is the goal and
16:22 have that's right yeah but go read the
16:25 book yeah do The Impossible by Jason
16:27 Drees um and you know what if you
16:31 comment on our latest Instagram post on
16:34 beckin living you'll automatically be
16:37 entered to win a copy of the book and we
16:39 will send this out to somebody because
16:41 it has been such a game Cher for us
16:43 we've actually purchased it and given it
16:45 to multiple people now and we'd love to
16:47 give it to one of you um so I feel like
16:50 we should share a personal story that we
16:52 feel like would illustrate us not living
16:55 on the frequency of belief um that
16:59 yeah I feel like personal stories just
17:01 really drive the point home MH okay yeah
17:04 you want to go first sure okay um
17:09 so in my
17:12 20s I was and early 30s I was a
17:16 full-time
17:17 musician I love music I have always
17:21 loved music I love songwriting I enjoy
17:24 performing I absolutely like beyond a
17:27 shadow of Doubt love being being in a
17:29 recording studio and creating it is just
17:32 one of the happiest places um I have
17:36 ever ever ever
17:37 experienced and while I had so much
17:43 belief in my love for creating and in my
17:47 love of making
17:48 music I did
17:51 not have the self-confidence the
17:54 self-worth the ability to overcome the
17:57 self-doubt to to promote myself and put
18:01 my music out there in a way that the
18:05 music business requires which is like
18:09 Relentless confidence in what you are
18:12 doing mhm I had moments I had incredible
18:16 moments of manifestation I remember
18:18 being with you in Savannah Georgia and
18:20 saying I've got to get a band together I
18:22 need to book some shows and I think
18:24 within a week I had several shows lined
18:27 up and new band so there were moments
18:31 that I really believed in myself and I
18:33 believed that anything was possible but
18:36 there were more moments that I hung back
18:40 and I would describe it as like waiting
18:42 to be discovered rather than actively
18:45 putting myself out there and putting
18:47 myself in a position to win now I don't
18:51 have regrets about that I feel like our
18:54 lives have ended up exactly where they
18:56 are supposed to be so so I forgive that
19:00 version of myself that precious slightly
19:03 naive innocent version of myself but
19:07 were I to do it again I would have
19:10 approached the business side of my music
19:15 totally differently I would have been um
19:20 so much more aggressive and I mean that
19:21 in a very good way in promoting myself
19:25 and in showing others how much I've
19:28 believed in my music and what I was
19:30 saying and the stories that I was
19:32 sharing um versus really hanging back
19:35 and waiting to be discovered
19:37 yeah yeah I mean there is no uh I don't
19:42 know anybody who gets it right straight
19:45 out of the gate even the people that we
19:48 think do that are we we think are
19:50 overnight successes or whatever they've
19:52 had to go through the cycles they've had
19:54 to learn those lessons as well so
19:56 there's no need to to beat ourselves up
19:59 um for these things that we just haven't
20:01 learned yet I mean we always talk about
20:04 we go back to that conversation um in
20:07 Sebastapol about how learning is
20:09 cyclical and how you you have a upward
20:12 trajectory but you kind of come back and
20:13 you learn the same things over and over
20:15 again you're just in different
20:16 environments different scenarios and
20:18 you're you're on different levels really
20:20 but um okay awesome yeah so it's your
20:24 turn okay all right so I'm G to throw
20:28 two things out there really quickly when
20:30 we when we talked about the episode I
20:32 was going to hit on
20:35 um uh me playing college football and I
20:39 went to the Air Force Academy to play
20:41 college football and it just didn't work
20:43 out you know young kid I think uh uh had
20:49 I known what I know now and uh um been
20:53 able to approach it with a different
20:57 mindset um things would have been a lot
20:59 different but at the same time it
21:03 was exactly what needed to happen I
21:06 needed to have that experience because
21:07 that was my first I'll call it really
21:10 I'm going to call it a
21:12 failure um to accomplish what I wanted
21:15 to
21:16 accomplish um but ultimately it taught
21:19 me so much in that uh multiple things
21:23 and that at the end of the day it comes
21:25 down to me and my actions and my
21:26 attitude if I'm going to if something
21:29 doesn't happen the way that I want it to
21:31 happen I take full responsibility for
21:33 that and that was the the biggest lesson
21:35 around that but as far as the frequency
21:37 of belief goes I just had zero
21:39 confidence but at the uh uh year or two
21:43 of playing college football I had just
21:45 lost all belief in myself I was a
21:48 practice squad player
21:50 just didn't didn't even believe in
21:53 myself so how was I going to get you
21:54 went from being like a high school star
21:56 to yeah
21:58 and and that can be a shock at that at
22:01 that time in your life well I mean I
22:02 experienced some of that too where you
22:04 have some wins when you're young and
22:07 then life hits you yeah and it can feel
22:10 devastating like you forget who you are
22:13 yeah will you define yourself as someone
22:16 for X part of your life and when that is
22:20 uh when that goes out the window you
22:22 have to redefine yourself and kind of go
22:24 back and reevaluate yeah I I have one
22:27 more thing to add that I think one of
22:29 the reasons you and I got along so well
22:32 when we first met is that we are both
22:34 extremely
22:36 conscientious people we are just kind by
22:41 nature and our actions at that time in
22:44 our young 20s were to hang back and work
22:49 so hard that we hoped somebody would
22:53 notice our value by us working hard and
22:56 showing up and having having a good
22:59 attitude and I'm proud of us I think
23:02 that that's so sweet but in today's
23:06 world you have to have a little bit more
23:09 bark and bite absolutely in order to
23:12 really succeed now we can still be kind
23:15 and be conscientious and be thoughtful
23:17 and work hard but we also have to
23:21 self-promote we have to have a podcast
23:23 we have to do the things we can't wait
23:25 for other people to tell us our value
23:29 right absolutely yeah so all all lessons
23:34 learned the hard way um but at the same
23:38 time exactly what we needed the other
23:40 the other example I was going to use uh
23:43 or or going to put out there was
23:46 Partnerships and how that relates to my
23:52 uh lack of belief and um
23:56 so what I'm I'm saying is is I always
23:59 looked for Partnerships I looked for a
24:01 team I Look to be surrounded by um other
24:05 people because I not that Partnerships
24:08 can't be great they can be fantastic and
24:10 they can serve a lot of per purposes but
24:12 I think what I did for a long time was I
24:15 looked for Partnerships because I didn't
24:17 have that belief in myself that I could
24:20 do it individually and make it happen
24:22 individually um so I I would say not
24:26 that that was a failure
24:28 but I think a growth point was
24:31 recognizing hey you don't need other
24:35 people to be successful and and don't
24:39 take that the wrong way like Nobody Does
24:41 it alone but you I do have the ability
24:45 to be successful without surrounding
24:48 myself with a bunch of other people as
24:50 far as partners go I experienced the
24:52 same thing you don't need I'm speaking
24:55 to all of the beautiful listeners you
24:57 don't need need to wait for someone to
24:59 tell you you're ready you don't need to
25:01 wait for someone to tell you you are
25:03 good enough you don't need to wait you
25:05 can begin now whether you're in a
25:07 partnership or not I think it's just
25:09 important that we put one foot in the FR
25:11 in front of the other and get going
25:14 y yeah so I think
25:17 um I I'm excited for this podcast
25:22 because we are going to be able to talk
25:24 about all the stuff that we that we
25:26 really enjoy
25:28 um with the Baseline of energy and
25:32 alignment and creating our realities
25:35 like that's that's the core of it we're
25:38 going to talk some real estate investing
25:41 uh we're going to talk design and just
25:44 all the cool stuff that we're into so
25:46 yeah all the cool stuff we're into so
25:48 what we hope you will get from this
25:50 podcast several things we want to get to
25:52 know you guys and we want to create some
25:54 awesome friendships we want to give
25:56 Insight on implementing a lifestyle
25:58 where the frequency of belief is
26:00 something you actively feel and practice
26:02 and derive benefits from daily because
26:06 it has I know people overuse this phrase
26:09 but it has literally changed our lives
26:12 it creates such excitement when we wake
26:15 up in the morning it creates so much for
26:17 us to talk about during the day or at
26:19 the end of the day something that we
26:21 often talk about before bed like what
26:23 are we going to do the next day what
26:25 does your day look like and it's such
26:27 the
26:28 tone yeah what else do we want people to
26:31 get from this
26:32 podcast yeah so I think that
26:36 um we want to share with with folks how
26:41 we have learned to dispel doubt uh
26:44 specifically that doubt can create
26:47 self-sabotage with and being aware of
26:50 that
26:51 self-sabotage uh moving past fear why do
26:54 we have it why does it exist how can we
26:57 use it and ultimately how can we
26:59 neutralize its negative effects um some
27:03 different tried and- true tactics as far
27:06 as being a successful entrepreneur real
27:08 estate investor um and just someone who
27:12 people who love their life in general
27:15 and want to uh to share that with other
27:17 people spiritual practices relationship
27:20 practices um and just lessons and
27:23 experience that we've you know learned
27:26 the hard way too and when we say we love
27:29 our lives that does not mean our lives
27:32 are without hardship we have had plenty
27:36 of sleepless nights plenty of anxiety
27:38 and panic attacks and highs and lows but
27:43 ultimately like Sam said at the
27:45 beginning of the episode we have worked
27:48 very hard and been very intentional on
27:51 creating a Life by Design and designing
27:53 life that we really really enjoy living
27:59 on a daily basis and so we feel like we
28:01 have won feel like we've won the lottery
28:04 but we also know that we haven't done
28:06 anything extraordinary and so anything
28:08 that we've done you can absolutely
28:10 Implement to your life too to create
28:14 that life that you have always dreamt of
28:17 living it doesn't have to be a dream it
28:19 can be a reality right and I I think
28:21 that like you said it doesn't mean that
28:23 we don't face adversity day in day out
28:26 but it
28:28 it is
28:29 simply living on a frequency where
28:33 adversity triggers a different response
28:36 than it used to where it used to trigger
28:38 a fear response now it triggers a hey
28:41 this is an opportunity to respond
28:43 curiousness curiosity applying that to
28:46 life in general mhm so let's wrap up
28:49 this first episode with a question again
28:51 I love a good question because I feel
28:52 like it leads to great
28:54 answers listeners what is something you
28:57 are struggling with right now that if
29:00 you practice the frequency of belief
29:03 might change
