If you listened to the Self Discovery episode 27 with Laura Kramer, then you may remember the question: is this a thought or is this a fact? come up.

This little question packs quite a punch.  Why?  Because we so often live in our heads!  And our heads can create quite a fairy tale that we often interject as reality.  This fairy tale reality is often completely devoid of truth, yet we will continue to create stories around it.

For example:

The reason I don’t have money is because I don’t work hard enough.  When in actuality, you are working your butt off but you feel undeserving of money so you never ask for what you are worth or you are taking jobs that don’t pay you what you are worth.

Another example:

I am destined to live in this small, opportunity devoid town because my mom lived here and her mother before her.  When in actuality, you are able to move, you are just choosing not to.

Another example:

That woman never talks to me because she hates me.  When in reality, she is going through a divorce and can barely keep her head on straight let alone make casual conversation.

Another example:

My dreams will never come true because I’m not lucky or special and I don’t have money to begin with.  When in actuality, you aren’t working toward your dreams on the daily and making your own luck.

This question: Is this a thought or is this a fact? is life changing and helps us to truly face the real reality of a situation.

So the next time you feel yourself creating a story in your head, ask, is this a thought or is this a fact?  And see what comes up and how it makes you feel.
