Really at the time, so I like I said, I had tried so many things, I was at the point of exhaustion. I had spent so much money. And I was frustrated. And I was almost hopeless at this point, and desperate for anything. And so at the time that I did find the Medical Medium book, it was almost like a magical experience for me. Hi,

Jaclyn Steele:

I am Jaclyn Steele. And welcome to self discovery. Howard Thurman so beautifully wrote, don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive, coming alive. That, my friends, is what self discovery is all about. You were that might

Unknown:

eautiful listeners, I am extremely excited to introduce you to Jackie Lee Gibbs. She is also known as at my skin truth on Instagram. And she is a skin mentor who works with those in need of guidance, encouragement and accountability on their own skin healing journey. Jackie, thank you for being here. Thank you so much for having me. skin is one of those topics that I am also so passionate about. I suffered from really horrible acne in my late teens, I had an eating disorder and my hormones were out of control. And when I found your Instagram profile, and you share so beautifully, and so vulnerably and your before and after photos, I just felt this connection and this force drawing me to you. So can you share a little bit about the story behind your brand, and how you came to be Jackie Lee gibbs.com. And this gorgeous skin mentor? Sure, yeah. So it really all started with my own healing journey. I started experiencing acne at age 15. And so it really was about a period of seven years, where I just struggled with acne and kind of tried a whole bunch of things to help my skin. And I guess I just always assumed that when I got older, I'd grow out of it. Hmm, I would just eventually stopped relying on pills and creams. But that wasn't the case. I ended up the pills and creams ended up not helping my skin nearly as much as they had when I first started them. And so by the time I graduated college, it just became a series of mental breakdowns and questioning like why is this even happening to me? Why can I get answers about this. And so that's kind of really what led me into my journey. And I ended up stumbling upon a chiropractor who introduced me to that idea that food, and what we put into our body, friends. And that was really the first time that that connection was made for me. And so that is really what started my whole journey. And it was really just kind of like a consecutive, of trying so many different things all the way up until it finally led me to where I'm at today and what I'm doing now. Well, and you have such gorgeous skin. I could see you through the screen and you're just glowing. I understand your frustration. Oh, of course. I understand your frustration though. I remember when I was suffering from acne, everybody was telling me that I needed salicylic acid and all these harsh cleansers And don't you dare moisturize because it's going to produce more oil and clog your pores. And then I went to the dermatologist, they put me on a prescription the prescription gave me a yeast infection and it didn't help my acne. Then I tried getting on birth control for acne regulation, which as you know, totally like switches up your hormones. And it didn't help me with acne either. And it was only when I stopped messing with my skin that it healed, which is so counter intuitive. So I want to talk to you a little bit about that. And your your work with Medical Medium. So what was it about the Medical Medium literature that you loved so much? And how has Anthony Williams influenced your amazing work? Yeah. So really at the time, so I like I said I had tried so many things, I was at the point of exhaustion, I had spent so much money. And I was frustrated. And I was almost hopeless at this point, and desperate for anything. And so at the time that I did find the Medical Medium book, it was almost like a magical experience for me.

Jaclyn Steele:

The gates opened.

Unknown:

Yes, soon as I opened the book and started reading, I literally had a chill that went through my body. And it was like, it was almost like a knowing like, okay, you finally have stumbled upon some truth here. And you finally have the answers within your reach. And all you have to do is start the journey. And so that, that's really what kind of set me off on following the Medical Medium information, and just Anthony William himself, like, I am constantly inspired by his selflessness to help others. And just like his choice to choose to use his gift to help people, I really think that it's so important for, you know, a person to do their part and for other people to do their parts, because all of our parts together is what's going to make a change and a difference. And so that's really what he's really a big inspiration for me. And just the fact that I know it's pure love that's driving, what he does, like, that means a lot to me, and it makes, it makes all of this information really special. And I know it's not just something being pushed to me. What I hear from that, and what I want the listeners to derive from what you just said is that when you're spirit, when your inner voice resonates with something, it resonates with something for a reason. And we have to trust that because now you have taken this information that he has so beautifully provided, but you make it digestible, I have I have one of his books, and it's great. But it's also a little intimidating for me. And I feel like you break it down into steps that can be done immediately, that feel tangible, that feel human, because we can see you actually doing it. Yeah, I understand that part about it feeling intimidating, especially like me, when I first started, it was one book. Now there's one like seven books. And so yeah, I can understand somebody first coming into this, just feeling overwhelmed, and not even knowing where to start. And so I think that's what's really cool about people like myself out there who are passionate about it, and you kind of find your little niche. And for me, it's skin. And so that's really what I want to help other people do and just kind of simplify the whole process for them. And let them know that you can make this work with your life. And your journey, and you shared so much of it on Instagram. So I don't think I'm sharing anything that you haven't openly. But your acne was severe. It wasn't just like a couple little bumps here and there. It was severe. And you have completely healed it and your skin is beautiful. Thank you. I mean, it's the transformation is astounding. Thank you. Yeah, I mean, I certainly have some scarring and imperfections. But honestly, I wouldn't trade that for my entire experience and where I've come from and where I'm at now. It's just incredible. Like, those are my battle wounds. And that's okay. Isn't it amazing how God or the universe however you want to label it provides us these opportunities. And if we look at them as opportunities, it's an invitation to understanding who we are and what to do next. I had a conversation a couple of hours ago with an integrative dietitian, and her name is Whitney crouch, wonderful woman. And she and I both have hashimotos thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disorder. And in our conversation, we both agreed that though this disorder isn't something we would wish on anyone, it's been one of our greatest teachers. And for me, specifically, it's teaching me how to treat myself. I didn't realize how much chronic stress I was letting into my life every single day. And the way that I'm treating myself now after I was diagnosed versus six months ago, so two totally different ways of approaching it. So sometimes those scars, whether they are visible or not. Those are what make us beautiful, and those are the pillars of what is going to hold up the foundation for what we're going to do next. I definitely agree with that. Okay. Why I have more questions for you, my dear. Next one is for those struggling with skin ish issues. Are there common denominator root causes to be aware of? Is it inflammation, poor gut health, hormonal imbalances? What do you see a lot? Yeah, so that's a great question. And so things like hormonal imbalances, inflammation, and gut symptoms. Those are just more symptoms just like acne. So those aren't the cause of acne. A lot of times when I work with clients all notice that those kind of go hand in hand a lot of clients will experience a lot of the same issues such as the gut issues, hormonal imbalances, adrenal fatigue, etc. But there's a cause behind all of that. And so the main causes is either it's one of those over 60 varieties of the epstein barr virus. I've heard that too. So it's viral, or it's one or multiple strains of over 50 strains of strep, not strains, varieties, varietals cocktail, and both of those are so incredibly common, that virus can manifest itself in all kinds of different ways, right, like mano common cold, like, I think, like even the herpes virus has epstein barr virus associated with it, and then also with strep. I mean, I am one of the rare people who has not experienced strep, but everybody I knew growing up in middle school and grade school had strep. Everybody at least once. Yeah. And so yeah, and so that's the common thing, too. So a lot of times, you can think back to your childhood. Oh, did I get a severe case of strep tonsillitis, chronic ear infections, those are all strep infections. And so that's not really the result of the acne, the result of the acne is when the strip has taken up residence in your body, most likely your liver and your lymphatic system. And it's really been there for quite some time before the acne even shows itself. So a lot of times when we get the acne, we think, Oh, my gosh, what's going on with me? But the question really is what has been going on with me for the past like decade, because that's what's built me up to get to this point. What I find so interesting, too, is I have the medical mediums book on thyroid health and healing. And he says that the epstein barr virus is responsible for hashimotos and thyroid issues as well, which I just find to be so fascinating. So for you and your acting, what do you feel like it was? Do you feel like it was the epstein barr virus or strep? So I mean, I had multiple symptoms health symptom working on the acne has been my biggest health symptom, but I've had multiple and so I do believe that I've had not only strep but also epstein barr. And it's really common when you do have epstein barr to have strep because it's a cofactor of the Yes, and then. So the thing with the different types of acne. So that all depends on the different types, the strains of strep that you have, how many varieties you have, and then also how aggressive they are. And so, a lot of times when you have more severe cases of acne, such as me, where I had chronic cystic acne, that as a result of taking antibiotics, over a series of years, and it basically the strep becomes resistant, and more aggressive. And then it becomes really challenging to get it out of the system. It is one of the most tenacious bugs. So it's possible to get rid of it. But it takes a lot of persistence. And you have to be you have to be tougher and stronger than that bug. So not only have you healed your acne, but there's probably a lot of mindset things that you have tackled as well. And I know that's not a question that I have on our list. But are there any mindset things that pop into your mind while we're on the subject that you feel like, Oh, this sentence or this quote, just changed the way I approached my life or my day? You know, I don't think it was like one day where I had a specific quote or something that popped into my head, but it was more of over the period of time. And I will say in the beginning it was very much a struggle of mindset because I started in a very negative space, a very victimized place and slowly through the journey I sort of became, okay, well, you can make a decision to feel sorry for yourself about these symptoms that you have and having acne or you can make something beautiful out of it. And you can be positive about it. And so that's ultimately where I decided to go. And ever since I made that decision, it just became a full on growth of mindset change and a shift that has happened within me, just made things. So

Jaclyn Steele:

I love that. Well, you know, I was listening to a podcast on this today, actually, but it's something that my best friend and I talk about a lot, which is self responsibility, and Extreme Ownership. Like, look, we can't control our outside circumstances, you can't control that you caught strep virus or epstein barr. However, I can control what I do next. And I can control what thoughts I'm holding on to and what thoughts I'm immediately letting go of. And I feel like that self responsibility, Extreme Ownership, that is the common denominator and every single successful person on the planet. Like if you want to do something with your life, you have to be responsible for your own actions. You can't expect somebody else to come in and heal you or do it for you. Or, you know, bless you with a million dollars out of the blue, you know, whatever it is like, we have to take responsibility for our lives. I agree 100% Okay. This episode of self discovery is supported by living libations. I was turned on to this company after my hashimotos diagnosis. I've always always loved clean beauty products, but living libations is clean on another level. I'll explain a little bit about why their primary ingredients are plant oils, and plant oils or botanical miracles. When oils are skillfully combined, the mosaic effect of 1000s of plant compounds burst forth with an intelligence and a life force that defines every single living libations creation. This not only makes their products extremely effective, and I can attest to that because the first night I started using them, I noticed a difference the next morning, one freaking night, but it also makes these products smell amazing like heaven. In addition, living libations products are cruelty free, they're Fairtrade and almost all the products are raw, gluten free, and vegan. I cannot say enough about this incredible company, I have so many of their products, I have their best skin ever cleansing oil and seabuckthorn I have their rose renewal serum, it's Heaven, I have their soothsayer serum. And I am mindfully switching out all of my old products in exchange for living libations products because of the efficacy of their products, the mission behind them and the way that the company is run their commitment to diversity and environmental protection. Anyway, all that to say this is a company that I absolutely believe in and want to continue to support. And now back to the episode. Next question. So how do we heal from chronic skin issues? And what are some of your most basic and easy to implement recommendations? I'm thinking of listeners right now who are like, maybe their accuracy isn't as severe as yours. Maybe it is. Maybe it's just topical. And it's something that is really bothering them. What are some tangible steps micro movements that they can do right now to start the process of healing?

Unknown:

Yeah, so in order to clear your skin and get rid of the strep the main things that you want to focus on are cleaning up the diet, building up the immune system and then bringing in a supportive system. annotation protocol. So those are the three main focuses. If you're just getting started, I would highly recommend looking up the Medical Medium article about troublemaker foods, it'll give you a really good idea of the foods that do not support healing that actually feed this strip and keep it around. And so those are the things that you'll want to clean up.

Jaclyn Steele:

Especially What are a couple of those?

Unknown:

Yeah, so I was gonna say like the top three, there's a whole list, but the top three most important are eggs, dairy, and gluten. And so I know, I know, those can sound so traumatic when you first hear them because that those happened to be big food groups for many people. But really, once you remove those, and you find new things to bring in, you realize that there's so much more Yeah, food groups up to offer. It's a mindset. Yeah, it's, it's all on. It's another mindset thing. Exactly.

Jaclyn Steele:

You know, it's interesting, but it's pretty much the same for hashimotos. Some people can have eggs and it not upset them. But some people can it's like a huge digestive upset. But gluten and dairy are on the no no list as well, because they cause inflammation, which just exacerbates the problem and continuous continues, continues it.

Unknown:

Yeah, so that I would recommend checking out that list and start cleaning up the diet that's really big. If you can start bringing out those foods that are keeping the bugs around, that's really going to you'll probably see a lot of results and just the way that you feel overall just by cleaning up the diet. And then I'd also check out bringing in foods that support specifically strep that kill off the strep and heal acne. So there's a whole list like cranberries, garlic, garlic, onions, tumeric, ginger, cayenne, apples, cucumbers, like there's a whole bunch. Yeah, my mouth is watering. Yeah, just a bunch of different foods that really support clearing the skin. And so bringing in extra of those. And then also, hydration is super important to in order to heal and cleanse. And so bringing in lemon and you can put honey in your water to lemon honey water. It's so delicious. lemonade, I feel like I'm just so good. But so much better, because I'm not feeling my body with processed sugars. And so just hydrating on that. Also, bringing in more fruits is super hydrating smoothies. And just fresh fruits and vegetables in general is gonna bring in a lot more of that hydration. And another amazing starter that you could do is bringing celery juice in every day that that I consider celery juice, like my spin healing tonic, like I will only Yes, if I'm on a budget, I will buy celery juice over supplements. And oh, that's really good to know. Yeah. And like how some people kind of rely on you know, a pill or a cream. And that's like their skin tonic every day. That's how I view the celery juice. And so that is always first place on my grocery list. Well,

Jaclyn Steele:

I love in what you said, I asked you about healing the skin and what people can do immediately. And none of it was by this cream, do this pop this pimple go to us facialist. It's all nutrition based all stuff that's like fairly, I mean, some of it isn't an investment, but you have to buy food anyways. So you can choose to make the really healthy choice. I love that.

Unknown:

Yeah. And I mean, if you're taking things out, you're making room to bring new things in. And you'll see that, you know, things like meat and dairy are actually really expensive. Oh, yeah, that adds up a lot on the grocery list. So if you're really focusing on the produce section as most of the bulk of what you're buying, you're going to see that your your grocery budget is actually going to probably not go up very much or it's even going to go down from what you're used to.

Jaclyn Steele:

Hmm, oh, yeah. I mean, I feel like I can for instance, my husband and I are in Arizona now. We live in an RV full time. And the closest grocery store to us is it's like a decent grocery store. Not my favorite. And so I end up driving 30 minutes to go to Whole Foods. And I spend almost the exact same amount at Whole Foods as I do at this very mediocre grocery store. Yeah, you know, I actually drive an hour to get to my natural grocery. That is commitment.

Unknown:

Well, I have grocery stores up the street but like you I don't really care for them. And I'll only go there if I really need something last minute but it If I were to shop there, for all my organic, which the organic section is a fraction of the section that is at the natural grocery food store, I'll be spending a lot more. So I actually save more money by driving an hour to shop at the natural grocery store. Because that's, you know, that's what the bulk of what people are buying. So they don't need to jack the prices up like they do at the regular grocery store where people aren't really getting very much produce.

Jaclyn Steele:

Yeah. And not only for skin healing. But I think making nutrition a priority, just across the board is life transforming. Because I don't think people understand how terrible they feel until they start eating well. And then they have all of this energy, they're sleeping better. They're just more full of life. Yeah, I'm living food leads to more life, stuff that's been processed, that's been killed stripped of nutrition, it's dead. So to me, it also makes so much sense. Like, if we want to feel good, we have to eat food that is vibrant and full of life.

Unknown:

Yeah, I agree with that. I also think it's important to note that when you do make the transition to a healing lifestyle, you can sometimes feel a little worse before you feel better. Yeah, because a lot of times, when you make that transition, you realize that you were dependent on so many vices like alcohol, and caffeine, and just all kinds of things. And you don't realize until you left, like get those things out of your life, is when you start to see Oh, wow, I was battling with chronic fatigue and chronic digestive issues. But I didn't know because the coffee was was a laxative for my digestive system, it was covering on the fatigue, you know, so the alcohol was covering up my depression. So it The list goes on. And so it really is, you know, to heal, to go through that journey. It really is a journey. It's not a mechanics. And the road is not easy it there's definitely some really challenging parts to that. And so I think that really just something that I've learned through the Medical Medium is that I really believe that a healing journey is like a spiritual calling in a way. It really asks a lot of you and you really are, you're really asked to transform in some ways.

Jaclyn Steele:

Well, and I think too, for me, and after my diagnosis of hashimotos, I had to give up gluten. And it is difficult. But the thing that I keep saying to myself as my health and well being are more important than this momentary payoff that's going to last 30 seconds to five minutes, and cause me so much discomfort, and pain. And I think I'm also reading this book called atomic habits, which is so fantastic. It's so good. But when you want to break a habit, you have to have some kind of talisman in front of you like your why, why do you want to break this bad habit, and then you're supposed to make it really unattractive. So if I'm giving up gluten, I need to make that unattractive. And I make that unattractive by saying it's going to make me bloat, it is going to give me stomach discomfort. I'm not going to feel good The next day, that's really unattractive. I don't want to live my life feeling like that.

Unknown:

Yeah, and you know, people, the people around you who are enjoying it, because it's really easy to get caught up in the jealousy of like, Oh, they could eat whatever they want in their skin looks great. And their stomachs flat, and this and that. But the thing is, you're the one at the end of the day who has to live in your body and feel the way that you feel. And so is that really worth it to you is that really living life when you're constantly feeling sluggish and not good and vibrant in your body and your skin? And so, you know, it ultimately comes down to making a choice and like you said earlier taking responsibility for yourself. Yeah,

Jaclyn Steele:

I totally agree and mindset as well. There's so much more that I can eat than what I can't. Especially when you look at the wide spectrum of what this incredible Earth provides us. You know, like it just makes such logical sense to me that the less something is processed, the more pure it is, the more honest it is, the more it's recognized by our bodies and able to be ingested and digested in a way that serves us and even for those people who can arrive on fast food or processed food or whatever, I don't feel jealous of that, because I know long term that is not a sustainable or a healthy way to nourish yourself. But also for me, it goes a level deeper into self respect and self love. If I truly love myself and respect myself, that includes loving and respecting my body by what I put in it, and that doesn't mean I'm never going to indulge in like a cookie, or whatever my particular poison may be. But it means that nine times out of 10, I'm making a conscious decision to go, am I gonna feel good after I do this? Or is this something that is really going to negatively affect me And if it is, it's just not worth it?

Unknown:

Exactly. And the other thing to think about too, is that when you start to fuel your body, with all of these nourishing natural foods, that our bodies are meant to like work together with you, it's almost like the cloudiness is lifted, like you feel more clear headed. You're more in touch with who you are and the connections that we have with nature and the earth. And that's something that I think a lot of people don't experience and are just out of touch with until they actually go through the experience of healing, and just nourishing themselves.

Jaclyn Steele:

Oh, and for those, what I'm deriving from what you just said is this. For those listeners who are listening in whatever illness skin issue, problem you feel you're facing, this is an invitation to go inward and heal. And, as a result, open up a whole new vibrant way of living. So it may feel like you're in the suck of it right now. But if you can stay in that place, and continue moving forward, that suck will decrease and decrease and decrease. And all of a sudden, this whole new way of being opens up. And I know for me, I'm still in this process of healing. But the steps that I have taken, and the windows that are opening up, are so big and beautiful that I wouldn't go back and change my diagnosis at this point. I was terrified at first. And now six months in I'm like, I'm learning how to love and treat myself in a sustainable way that I probably never would have stopped long enough to recognize and do the work of relearning and redoing my own behaviors. You know. Another thing that I think is so beautiful about what you said is it is a spiritual journey. And it's connective. And one thing I haven't told you that I meant to tell you sooner but didn't is that I am reading Renegade beauty by Nadine Artemis who started living libations. And this is such This is the coolest thing. This is so serendipitous. I landed on your page, I saw that you were using living libations. And I was like, This looks like a cool, interesting brand. I love skin products. I love clean beauty. I went to living libations I reached out to them immediately after falling following you. And I was like, Can somebody from your brand Come on my podcast and talk about this amazing product that you guys are creating. And they reached. I have to take a deep breath for this. They got back to me and they Dean Artemis herself is coming on the podcast and April. And that's because it's because of you and you sharing their products.

Unknown:

She's incredible. She is another big inspiration in my life. Oh my gosh, that's what that book the same. So the books that I have on my shelf are Medical Medium and video, Renegade vt. Yeah, and I literally I access those all the time and they teach me so much and hold so much good information.

Jaclyn Steele:

Oh and and Renegade beauty is is a spiritual walk. And it's about connecting back to the way the Earth moves the way our bodies move the way our skin naturally is supposed to be. And when I started reading it, I had this feeling of like my spirit walking home into this zone of like, this is this is where I've always known, I'm supposed to exist and it's in harmony with the world around me rather than can Consistently fighting against it, or using ingredients that make no sense?

Unknown:

Yes. Oh my gosh, yeah. I love that you're saying all that because that is something I've learned to my own healing process with my skin is that I, you know, I kind of went through this period, even when I was doing a bunch of healing within with all the foods where I just felt the need to control the situation. Because when you look at my photos, you know, I am sharing a before and after photo, but that's not you know, it didn't go from really bad to really clear overnight, it was a really slow, painful, long process to get there. And so yeah, and so basically, that is, you know, I kind of went through this phase where I really felt the need to control it. And I was spending 1000s of dollars literally on like laser treatments, and micro needling and all kinds of stuff that I thought was going to give me control over the situation. And really all it did was make my skin more inflamed and more upset. And you know, it really took a person one time to just tell me like, Look, you know, you have really beautiful skin, I can tell it just seems upset right now. And maybe, maybe all it needs is just for you to let it breathe. And like when they told me that, oh, I was like, Oh my gosh, like, you know, maybe I should. And as soon as I took that advice, like literally the past two years, my skin has been the best that it's been on my entire journey just by letting go of all of that. And really just using very minimal tools, very minimal products to support the process, because really, the true healing is by going within ourselves. It's not all the stuff that we put on outside that's just there to like help support you through the breakouts, support you through the struggle, it's not going to change transformer. Like going within is going to

Jaclyn Steele:

Yeah, and I feel like ne Dean talks so deeply about that and Renegade beauty to I mean, she spills all the tea on beautiful ingredients, and she even shares the recipes. She has a skincare brand and she's sharing recipes in this book. But it's just such a holistic, beautiful, sacred approach to looking at beauty and I feel like you are right in line with that. Thank you. Yeah, I've learned so much from her good. This episode is supported by verrucas nuts. These South American nuts are good for you, and they're good for the planet. And additionally, their nutritional value is next level amazing. They have more than three times the antioxidant power of other popular nuts. They have more fiber than any other nut. They're super high and high quality protein. They're mineral rich, they are the nut highest in potassium, and they contain very high amounts of calcium, magnesium, manganese, and other vital minerals. They have 25% fewer fat calories than other popular nuts, and their taste is a cross between a peanut and an almond. I'm eating one right now. And it is a cross between a peanut and almond but it's slightly sweeter. You can easily add them for crunch and depth to everything from your morning bowl of oatmeal, to grain pilaf, sauces and even pesto. I mentioned before that these nuts are good for the planet. And now I'm going to tell you why verrucas go wild in South America mainly in Brazil. And these hearty trees require no pesticides or fertilizers. More than 50% of its land has been raised to create enormous cattle ranches and industrial farms. Fortunately, deforestation rates are going down thanks to the outcry from environmental groups and other concerned organizations. Supporting verrucas means helping save the Serato these nuts also are ultra fair trade because you know I do not want to partner with any companies that are not treating their employees like gold. The bruke is nuts company offer generous compensation to the indigenous people who gather verrucas from the wild trees this much needed income helps families stay on their land verrucas are the nuts that have it all great taste crazy high nutrition and a positive impact on the environment and on the lives of people who gather them. And what will you absolutely under no circumstances put on or near your skin?

Unknown:

So some of my favorite products Well, number one living libations I specifically love her best skin ever. seabuckthorn oil.

Jaclyn Steele:

Oh my gosh. And it smells like heaven

Unknown:

smell Exactly. Like literally People ask me all the time. Oh my gosh, what are you wearing? That smells amazing. And I don't wear any perfume or any sense. It's literally all coming from my skincare and I love that. So yeah, I think that's an amazing product, especially for acne skin. I also love I love a bunch of other products from her too. And you can check out my highlights.

Jaclyn Steele:

Yeah, and then just a couple for the listeners. Yeah, yeah. And let's send them to your Instagram too.

Unknown:

She has a papaya lime enzyme mask. Oh, I've heard that. Yeah, I've seen that. Yeah, that one's great. It's so gentle. You can wear it overnight and then you wake up with this nice glow he do. Then that she also has these amazing lip shimmers and I love I wear those all the time. There's so great.

Jaclyn Steele:

I have one actually and it is it's amazing and it's hydrating and it smells good but not in a fake way and like a very natural. You know your, your your nose nose. It really does.

Unknown:

You can tell us something is not natural or toxic for sure by smelling it. And then I also really love her hemp washcloths. I love them for just her with her daily gentle exfoliation. I think those are really amazing. Another company that I really love is Yoli skincare. Oh, okay. Yeah, they're they're really awesome. They have a cleanser that I really love. They also have a cell perfecto pm serum. It has MSM in it, which is really good for the skin topically. And so I find that that really brightens my skin and kind of supports with the scar healing. So those are two products I really love from that company. The cleanser is super gentle and it doesn't lather up or suds up like a so yeah, or a cleanser does which is something that you don't want in a cleanser. Because that actually strips ever can Yeah, here Yeah. And so you can read a lot about that and Renegade beauty. And then I also really like activist manuka honey.

Jaclyn Steele:

Oh yes, yes. I love honey masks. When I do a honey mask and take it off afterwards. My skin feels so hydrated and supple and soft. Yes, I love their nature. There's just I mean, there's no substitute.

Unknown:

And the really cool part about getting the manuka honey is that I have the freedom to make and create my own mask and put what I want in it, depending on what my skin needs that day, you know, so I could add in some medicine powders and vitamin C powder. I can add in some rosemary, some different essential oils, just depending on oh my gosh,

Jaclyn Steele:

the need for so couple of questions. Do you share any of your mask recipes anywhere? Am I missing that?

Unknown:

I've only shared one so far. Okay, they're not it takes a lot of work to create although I'm

Jaclyn Steele:

sure Oh, I know. I believe me. I know it is a full time job

Unknown:

is and so I'm trying really hard to make more time for that between my regular jobs and then also, you know, working on my business. So yeah, I'm hoping to share more in the near future but I have one so far listed. You can look okay, reals. Beautiful,

Jaclyn Steele:

what are some skincare products that you just absolutely would not touch?

Unknown:

So I wouldn't use any antibacterial soap ever again. Mm hmm. It's really a destroys the microbiome. Yes, and I mean, I've used those for years and my skin literally the oil production in my skin was so out of balance. I literally had to take a paper towel and wipe my face every every hour to get the oil off as if it was a pizza and and then I would wear makeup to help cover up the shiny greasiness and it wasn't like a glowy shine. It was a greasy, gross shine. And it took a couple years for that to balance itself back out. I think of just using supportive, natural, really gentle products. And then of course, cleaning up my diet and working on the inside of healing the strep. So yeah, I would never use those. I also am really wary about products like natural advertised products.

Jaclyn Steele:

Anything it's so deceiving is Yeah, it just because it says organic or has pictures of lavender fields, does not mean that it's a good natural clean product for you a lot of times, so you have to look out for the word natural fragrance because just like natural. What is it in the in the food? Yeah, no, I

Unknown:

know. Yeah. So it's like a cocktail of toxicity, it is hot, you can hide the company can hide any ingredients under there. And they do not have to tell you because it's considered like their secret ingredients. So they can hide a bunch of toxins in there. And then a lot of times the oils used could be rancid. So you really, it's really important to find companies that really know what they're doing that are seeking the top quality oils, essential oils and ingredients that are going into your skincare. And I find that I'll spend, you know, a good amount of money on my skincare. But my skincare lasts me a long time because I'm just using a few drops of something. And I'm usually just using one or two items. And then I'm done. And it's that simple.

Jaclyn Steele:

So as far as essential oils go, do you have any specific brands that you really love? Because I love essential oils too. And I find that incorporating them into my day has a very calming effect.

Unknown:

Yeah, so I really I definitely trust Nadine from living libations. I get essential oils from her. And then two other companies that I feel good about are doTERRA and Young Living and so yeah, yeah, I'm as well,

Jaclyn Steele:

I have been getting oils from doTERRA. And as somebody who used to get essential oils that were natural and organic, I'm doing this in air quotes, like I smell the lavender that I got from that company. And then the lavender that I got from doTERRA. And it's two different universes of lavender is wild. Yeah, so

Unknown:

while Yeah, a lot of times you'll go to the natural health food store. And you can you know, you can buy essential oils there. But you have to be careful because one a big indicator as well. If it's super cheap, then it's most likely, it's either diluted with water or has fillers that you don't want on your skin or breathing into your body. So yeah, those are really important to look out for, it's really important to look for a good quality company with essential oil.

Jaclyn Steele:

And with essential oils, I think people will look at the price tag of like living libations oil or doTERRA, or Young Living and go, I can get some I can get that for a fraction of the cost. But what they don't understand too is that the potency of one drop of a highly effective oil is as potent as 10 or 20 drops of another. And because these companies are so focused on the efficacy of their oils, it is just it's the outcome is a totally different outcome. And if you're using them topically and aromatically, like so many of us are, we don't want to be using oils, breathing them in or putting them on our skin if they have rancid fillers, or other oils or other crap in that bottle that we think is economical. Exactly. Sometimes, you know, I am a fan of being smart with money. But sometimes you do really get what you pay for and it's worth it to buy the quality.

Unknown:

Yes, it's it's definitely worth it to invest in good product and a little goes a long way, especially if you're dealing with natural products. Oh definitely.

Jaclyn Steele:

I've noticed that with living libations like five drops of oil will cover my whole face and neck like five to seven drops. And it is like deep. I hardly need any. It's I mean, my bottle lasts me forever. Which bottle do you get? Do you get the 30 or the 50? Or the 100?

Unknown:

I believe I get the 50 gotcha. You know what is? No I might get the 100 it's Yeah, it's the tall bottle. It lasts me forever. I

Jaclyn Steele:

love they're out of it right now online because I got the little one initially the 30 and I love it so much that I'm not even done with it. And I'm like I don't because they're there in Canada and it takes a while. to ship the products I've like, I've got to order this before I'm out. But they're all out of the 100 milliliter and the 50. So I'll have a little reminder going one more question about skincare products as far as body care, body wash soap, what do you recommend for all over Bobby?

Unknown:

So that's a great question. This might sound weird, but I actually don't really wash with soap, I kind of just water washing off and like, you know, the run off from my shampoo and conditioner. Sometimes if I want to wash my body, or like my pets and bits, like I'll just Yeah, well, honestly, just take a little bit of my shampoo and use that. Yeah, making sure that you know, my shampoo and conditioner also really clean. And so sometimes it just takes a little bit of that and those areas to help. There are bars of soap that living libations sells, and sometimes I'll get those I like those. But really, I just, I don't really like the feeling of my skin feeling kind of stripped and sometimes Yeah, but body washes can do very much. Yeah, so I really am very minimal in terms of body and love that

Jaclyn Steele:

well and may Dean says never wash the whole body, just the pits and the bits. I started incorporating that too. And I don't find like, I'm not belly or no. And I do use body oil, like a organic body oil that I love. But I don't know that I would necessarily need it if I weren't living in Arizona where the climate is so so so dry, you know, so I don't find that. I feel like my skin feels really good. Not doing the full wash.

Unknown:

Yeah, I mean, honestly, that sometimes I'll do I have a scrub. And sometimes I'll do that. But I think that's enough as an exfoliation, you know, once in a great while. And then I too, I live in a dry climate. So I will use like coconut oil or shave a shea butter on my legs and arms. And then I have love shea butter. Yeah, and then I'll have like my special oil that's more expensive with all the essential oils. And I'll kind of do like the upper top part of my body. That's such a beautiful ritual. Thank you I find that it kind of, you know, it keeps the finances good in turn. Yeah, making my products last and yeah, also doing what I need to do to moisturize. I love that. Okay,

Jaclyn Steele:

one more question before we get to the rapid fire ones at the end. What about shampoo? Because I have dabbled in the organic shampoos in the natural shampoos in shampoo bars. And I don't know that I've found anything that I absolutely love.

Unknown:

Yeah, so I actually I rotate through a couple different companies. So one thing to note is that with when it comes to products, it's really good to rotate them so that your body doesn't get so used to that one and just not and it doesn't work as effectively. So you want to rotate through it. So I really love the brand. And I think this is how you say it. rahula Oh, yeah. Okay. Yes.

Jaclyn Steele:

I don't know if that's how you pronounce it either. I would assume. So that's how I would say yeah, but I have seen I've seen their products. Okay, you can get them on Sephora. They're clean at Sephora.

Unknown:

Yes. And so you can even get them on Amazon. And so there I really love their, their basic shipping and conditioner. And then they also have a dry shampoo, which I live best with. And so those are my three main products from them. Okay, um, there's also this other company I just started trying, it's called Juju. And they have a really great dry shampoo as well. And it's, it's similar to the rahula dry shampoo. So I really like it and it's actually cheaper.

Jaclyn Steele:

I love that. Okay, I'll link all of that in the show notes. But I love to get real micro with like brands and specific products because I know for me when I listen to podcasts and somebody you know is mentioning like, you should try gluten free bread but then they don't name a brand. It's like wait a second, you know what's good for you, but some of them are terrible. So I appreciate you getting so specific there. Yeah. All right, my dear. rapid fire questions at the end. These are just like the first thing that comes to mind. Okay. What do you take comfort in prayer. Wow, I love that Me too. What instantly brings you joy? Laughter or what has been your greatest Teacher,

Unknown:

I would say my acne has been my greatest teacher. Mm hmm. Favorite book? It changes but right now it's the nightingale by Kristen Hanna.

Jaclyn Steele:

Boo, I haven't heard of that. Okay, I'm going to look that up and put it on my list. Yeah. best piece of advice you've been given,

Unknown:

I would say I've been given a lot of good advice over my lifetime. And so it kind of changes. But right now, I would say the best advice that's relevant to me is that is to trust in the process and to believe that God has a better plan for me than I have. Ah,

Jaclyn Steele:

surrender is a word that keeps coming up for me, too. I want to speed the process along, I want to know what's at the finish line. But it's just not how it works. It's one step at a time. Okay, what do you want our dear listeners to take away from this episode.

Unknown:

So my hope is that those listening today will feel enlightened with knowing the cause behind acne. And also, just to know that all the options that you have, you know, some people are going to choose the Accutane journey, some people are going to choose the acne positivity and just kind of accept living in their skin, and others are going to go down the path of healing within. And so just know that whatever you choose, that's your souls journey.

Jaclyn Steele:

Thank you so much. Last question. And I know I didn't put this one on there. But where can everybody find you online? What are you up to? Please use this as a moment to market yourself.

Unknown:

Yes, so you can find me on Instagram, my handle is my skin truth. And I also have a website, Jackie legged, calm. I offer skin mentoring, I help people all over the world, through healing their skin, applying the Medical Medium healing information and making it really simple and precise plan for you keeping you accountable. And just being there as someone who's been through that walk, who didn't really understand where you're coming from the emotional struggles that you're going through just everything, all the little pieces in the journey, I'm basically there to hold your hand through that. Something else that I want to announce that I'm doing is I'm hosting a skin healing haven retreat. Beautiful, yes, I'm so excited about it. I've been hosting retreats for the past two years. But this will be my first retreat that I'm hosting in my town. And so I'm just really excited to be able to share the beauty of Montana and the mountains and the nature side of where I live with people. And then also just kind of bring a group together a community for people who are out there struggling with healing their skin, but also healing from other ill symptoms and just kind of letting them know that, you know, here's a space for you to feel safe. And for you to connect with other like minded people going through a similar journey. And it's also really going to focus a lot on just educating people showing them how to implement a healing lifestyle in a really simplistic way and make it doable with a busy lifestyle. And just really show people hands on how they can do that. So they feel confident when they go back to their space and being able to move forward with their healing by implementing this lifestyle.

Jaclyn Steele:

And how beautiful that it's in Montana. Oh my gosh, I have not been to Montana yet. It's on my list. When my husband and I got into our rv montana was supposed to be the first place that we went. But we had we had some roadblocks in Georgia. And so we couldn't leave until mid September, and Glacier National Park was closed. So we were like, no, that's where we were gonna go. So we're gonna circle back and go, probably this next year. You should it's it's gorgeous here. It's so beautiful. I can imagine. Well Jackie, thank you so much for your time today. Thank you for sharing your tips and your tricks and the products and your heart.

Unknown:

I appreciate it so much. You're welcome. Thank you so much for having me. Beautiful
