Don’t Quit Before the Harvest

Jenny Peterson Season 5 Episode 156

The choices you make today may seems small and insignificant but the truth is what you do today matters! Jenny shares a candid, practical message about how daily decisions shape your future like a boomerang—what you throw comes back, for good or for bad. From the weight room to business to spiritual growth, we trace the simple patterns that compound: showing up when you don’t feel like it, planting seeds without instant feedback, and guarding against the quiet drift that happens after a win.

We dig into the law of the harvest—how you can’t reap what you never sow, and why watering, weeding, and waiting are not glamorous but are non-negotiable. You’ll hear a real story of so-called “overnight success” that was actually a decade of persistent posting before sudden traction hit, proof that breakthroughs look instant only to people who missed the reps. Jenny also opens up about training for a bikini competition, getting into peak shape through consistent work, and then losing definition when the habits stopped, a clear picture of how momentum fades when we coast. It's a lesson about when you finally do arrive or achieve that goal, don't stop doing the very things that got you there.

If you’re in a dry season, this is a reminder that patience is a strategy, not a slogan. If you’re in a harvest, it’s a warning to keep your foot on the gas. Expect clear takeaways you can use today: pick one small habit, stack it into your routine, and let consistency do its quiet work. We lean on faith and God’s timing, choosing stewardship over shortcuts and identity over hype, so you can build results that last. If this resonated, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs the nudge, and leave a quick review to tell us the one habit you’ll show up for today.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome back to another episode. I'm Jenny Peterson. This is a solo episode today, but God put a message on my heart that I feel a burning that I need to share. And I don't know who needs to hear this, but listen to me. What you do today matters. What you do today matters. Success is like a boomerang. I want you to think about this for a second. If you had a boomerang and you threw it, what's gonna happen? It's gonna come right back to you, right? And the same thing happens for good or for bad. What you do today matters. DDD. Decisions determine destiny. And this can happen for good or for bad. For example, if I show up at the gym today and I lift the weights and I did this consistently every single day, what would happen in 90 days? You're gonna see a difference, right? Same thing. If I decide not to go to the gym today, I decide to eat a pint of ice cream and I did that every day for 90 days. Are you gonna see the results of those actions, those daily decisions? Yes. The truth is, what I do today and what you do today, it matters. The decisions that we make today matter. Those tiny things. And I know because I'm the same way. Sometimes I don't feel like doing it. I do not feel like doing it. But you will see the fruits of your labors, right? You will see the results of what you did or did not do in the future. It could be in 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, six months, a year. And I believe that if you show up, especially on the days that you don't feel like it, that counts for double. In my book, that counts for double showing up when you don't feel like it. It's the law of the harvest, right? You can't reap a harvest for seeds you didn't sow. You have to show up every single day, my friend, and sow the seeds. And the problem is most people, which you're not like most people because you're listening to this podcast episode, but most people they quit before they can reap the harvest. They quit before the harvest appears. They plant the seeds and then they run back the next day to that patch of dirt and they're like, where's the harvest? I did the thing, I planted the seed, where's the harvest? Or maybe they show up for a couple days and they water it, but then it's like, oh, nothing's happening. This isn't happening fast enough. And they quit. The secret is to not quit. The secret is to make those daily deposits in your life, in your business, into yourself every single day. And I believe that if you do this, if you do the right things every single day, eventually you are going to win. It's the law of the harvest. It might not happen as fast as you want it, and that's okay because I believe in God's timing and his timing is perfect. But if you are showing up, you are doing the things, you're going to reap a harvest. Let me tell you about my friend Michelle. Michelle has a huge following. She has over 300,000 followers. And some people might look at her and say, oh my gosh, she's an overnight success. But I saw this woman show up every single day. And if I say this wrong, I'm sorry, Michelle. I thought it was for like 10 years. Show up every single day. And she slowly got traction. She slowly started to reap a harvest for 10 years, got to 10,000 followers on her Instagram account. How many people would stick around for 10 years? Every single day. Show up every single day for 10 years, and you're not seeing much happen. It's a little bit, but it's not happening as fast as you want it. How many people would have quit before then? But Michelle didn't quit? She was persistent. She was consistent. And she showed up every single day. And then I watched her account blow up in a year from 10,000 to over 300,000 followers, just like that. And some people might look at her and be like, that's an overnight success. No, friend, I have never seen an overnight success. And if you were to ask her, I do not think she would say that it was an overnight success. I think she would say, you know what? It took me longer than I wanted or thought that it would to get here, but it was worth it. And she can look back now and be proud that she didn't give up. She can look back now and be like, I am so happy that I showed up on the days, especially the days that I didn't feel like it. And her test became her testimony. She's an example to me to keep going, to keep trying, to keep sowing the seeds, to keep not just sowing the seeds, but a farmer sows a seed, right? They don't just leave it, they come back every day, they water it, they nurture it, they fertilize it, they weed around it, they make sure it's getting enough sunshine, all of the things. And then if you do that, you reap a harvest. But what would happen if a farmer just sowed a seed and then just left it? Maybe the birds would get it. Maybe the weeds would choke it out. Maybe it wouldn't get enough water, it wouldn't sprout, it wouldn't get any root. You have to show up every single day. And that's why what you do today, and I'm talking about today, friend, matters. And I also want to talk about what happens if you are in a season of success. What happens if you are in a harvest? Can you take your foot off the gas? Can you coast? Can you stop doing the things you did that got you there? Sure, you can, and you might be able to coast for a while without seeing the consequences of that. But trust me, just like a boomerang, you throw it out, it's gonna come back to you, and you are going to see the consequences of what you didn't do. And that's when maybe your business starts to fall. Let me give you an example. Let me give you an example. I did a bikini competition years ago, got in the best shape of my life, ripped out of my mind, muscles. I felt strong, confident, and amazing. I looked good in everything. And it took a long time to get there. It took me a year and a half of consistently lifting to get there, to put in the reps every single day. You can't just walk into a gym, right? Lift a weight, and then you're ripped out of your mind, right? I had to show up every single day. But my goal was to do a show. And it was like once I did it, I checked that box off and I stopped doing the things that got me on that stage. That got me in that little teeny tiny bikini on stage for all the world to see. I stopped doing those things, and what happened? My body got soft. My muscles were not as defined. It didn't happen right away. It didn't happen right away. And it, to be honest, it caught me off guard. I don't know why it caught me off guard because it's like, duh, if you don't lift the weights, you're not going to have the muscles, right? If you don't choose to eat the good food and you choose to eat the donut, you're going to reap what you sow and you're going to see the consequences of the good and the bad in the future. Once you get there, once you finally get there, don't take your foot off the gas pedal. Don't stop doing the things that got you there. Because you're gonna find yourself right back down, right back where you started. You have to keep putting in the reps. And I know I've said it a lot in this episode, and maybe we should have had a drinking game. Take a drink. When Jenny says what you do today matters, but it does. What you do today really does matter. And the best part is it's a decision. It's a decision. Are you gonna show up today? And it's easy to be like, uh, I don't feel like it today. It's just, it's just such a small, tiny thing. It won't make a difference. Eventually it will, it compounds. And there is a consequence for every decision in life, good and bad. So put in the reps. Show up, be consistent, have faith as you go, and know that things are gonna happen in God's perfect timing. What you do today matters. Your life matters. God woke you up today for a reason. He knows who he created you to become. And I believe that in life, we show up every day, in every way, striving to be better and better. We are in relentless pursuit of becoming the man or woman that God created us to become. God did not create you to be small and you know it. So do something today that your future self is gonna thank you for. Plant those seeds today so you can reap your harvest. And that's the best part is we're in control of this. It's a decision. Daily decisions. They add up over time. So plant those seeds today so you can guarantee your harvest in the future. I love you, my friend, and I will see you in the next episode.
