Jays lose to Seton Hall in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament to Seton Hall.

SPEAKER_01

One for the last time. No, no, no, no. We'll see you in Vas Vegas.

SPEAKER_02

B L U E J A. Y. S. S is for C in all. Fuck God. Going right out. The longest like we just keep playing the reason. That's it. Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends. Contrary to what Patrick Hawk just said, it will not end.

SPEAKER_03

Never.

SPEAKER_02

This is not it. I'm your host, Jack Jeffrey, joined by my colleagues, Patrick Hawk. Hey. Just say a little something. Hey, say I'm sad.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sad. I'm sad. I wanted to win today.

SPEAKER_02

I know. I saw you with your handkerchief at the bar.

SPEAKER_01

I I thought that this was going to be the start of like the middle part of the documentary. And like the good, like the music, the magical music starts.

SPEAKER_02

I'm also joined by Pat Coder.

SPEAKER_04

I'm happy to be here. I love you guys. I love you. I love all you guys.

SPEAKER_02

And of course, Michael Roshone. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

He's the only one that gets applause. He's just a little better than us. Let's go. Credentialed. Well, sad day, bad day. As a Creighton fan, as most of you listeners know, as do we. And your Creighton Blue Jays fall to Seton Hall in Madison Square Garden, 72 to 61. That that's the the one. That's it. That's it. That's it. Well we'll talk about if that's it or not. But um rough day at the office, of course, which we've said well 16 times now. You know, just sad. And also, you know, thank you guys for coming to Barretz to watch it because I was doing the Lord's work in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_03

Um can you can you sync up Peacock or I want to slap you in the tooth right now?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the sound, the sounds, the sound's a little off. Can you ever every single table? What the fuck's happening? It's called bandwidth, and it's Cox's fault. And NBC's fault. And and the conference's fault. Right? It's Val's fault. Yeah, Val Ackerman needs to figure it out. These media rights are getting out of hand. We're either on TNT, CBS, NBC, or I'd go as far to blame Donnie Marshall, John B.

SPEAKER_03

I blame I blame Donnie Marshall for everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's kind of that guy here sucks.

SPEAKER_03

That guy is the worst.

SPEAKER_01

God, he's so annoying to listen to.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's game five in 24 hours that he's brutal.

SPEAKER_02

It's just getting like first off, it's a crime that this is on Peacock. Um I just think it should be blanketed uniform all big East tournament. Yeah. Because it just first off, it fucks with bars. Yeah. I mean, like you're like I like I want to sleep you. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Your staff was not happy.

SPEAKER_02

Did you see me tell them I can't do anything about it? I can't help that the TVs aren't synced up. It's it's called Wi-Fi and it's a smart TV.

SPEAKER_03

Not the smartest, but it's a streaming service. You will not match up.

SPEAKER_01

You try to sync them up. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then we did pause one, right?

SPEAKER_02

But then whenever And then a commercial would happen and it get fucked up again. It's completely, it's it's literally the Wild West.

SPEAKER_03

You can't really stop the problems. That one guy was not happy.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, I was like he wanted drink, he wanted kind of specialized drinks. He needed that thing to get synced up. He was like, dude, we're down six.

SPEAKER_02

I I like when tables are like, you know, we would cheer first because our TV was faster, and then they would like facetiously like clap or like go nuts at the farther table down the bar.

SPEAKER_03

The dude ran up to us and was like, what are we how are we gonna fix this? I don't know, man. Like, come sit with me. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Like I'm worried about us getting a fucking stop.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like that was prep's athletic record. Oh, was it really? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, screw him.

SPEAKER_01

Another reason to hate prep.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh, fuck you. Fuck the Reds. Fuck Sai.

SPEAKER_01

Lost to Papio South yesterday.

SPEAKER_02

Stop talking about how both both Jesuit schools seasons ended. Both the Creightons are got the job done. Both the Creighton teams are done and out. But today was a rough one. You know, before the game even started, we all kind of knew this was gonna be a rough one. Seton Hall is a tough matchup for Creighton. What do you guys think?

SPEAKER_01

I mean Yeah, like I think that if if we come out and we dictate pace, like Seton Hall is a team that if we know like the under-16 timeout, I think it was three to two. If we come out and we're and the ball's moving and we're getting stops, playing in transition, and we kind of make them play at our pace, I think we could have taken control of this. Because I because the the first four minutes defensively, I mean you you hold a team to three points in the first you know, media stretch. I think we could have taken control of that, but but we were playing so stagnant, and we are playing to their pace, and so we just let them do what they are comfortable with doing and we and we played to their style of basketball.

SPEAKER_02

Well like you said, um we're just the fact that we can't come in with firepower and a game plan to beat a team that's not that good is bad. Yeah, yeah. That's that kind of sums up this year. Yeah, Mike, what do you think?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's exactly that's exactly what I was gonna say. Like, like Seton and it sucks. Like Seton Hall's not good.

SPEAKER_02

21 season. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Like that's and that I think that in a nutshell says the what the big East was this year. Like for Seton Hall to be fourth and a 20 plus win season is just so like God, they're just not you watched you watch them play. That's not a good basketball team. Like it's just it's just not, yeah. Do they play disruptive defense? 100%. I don't want to I don't want to take anything away from what they do defensively because they are yeah aggressive because they're bought into how yeah, because they they do a lot of good things defensively, but as as somebody who who watches a lot of basketball, and again, I like I said, I preface this on watching a lot of basketball, like your offense helps uh how defenses do. And so when your first move when you catch a pass is to not look at the basket and dribble sideways or to half court, you play into the hands of the defense, like you don't have to be good defensively to know that that guy's not a threat, you know, and and so like you don't have and again, I don't want to take anything away from Seton Hall because like it's not like a one-game thing, like they've been a disruptive defensive team throughout the entire big E's season, throughout the entire year. Like, you know, like it's not it's not just a one-game. Yeah, there's a reason why they were not a one-game, two-game thing, but like uh it almost feels like and it's I feel it's been a thing for Creighton under Greg McDermott where these things where these up in your face defensive teams, Creighton just goes they kind of go into a shell. They go in exactly, they go into a shell. They don't they don't attack the the only thing you can do against an up in your face aggressive defensive team is be aggressive right back at them, which like they haven't been all year. You can't you cannot you cannot be passive against an aggressive defensive team. Well, you Mike, you you and I were laughing.

SPEAKER_02

What fedor almost traveled, yeah. Well when he got that rebound, it's like run, go, yeah, push.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he does it, he gets a rebound, he's a guard. And he Mid Graves had a chance to get out of that trap, and he tries to pass it to somebody else. No, you're a guard, you get the rebound, go.

SPEAKER_02

I said to you, I was like, I've seen Dekembi Matombo drive up the court better.

SPEAKER_03

Karom does it, yeah. Like, I don't it just it just baffles me. This team this year, and I know Creighton has done this a few times under Greg, but like this team, especially this year, when teams get up in their face, they will.

SPEAKER_02

You know, they don't they don't Martine Crumple throwing it out of bounds against Chris Xavier to lose. Thanks for that reminder, Mike. Yeah, I was like, we can't break presses, we can't imbound. Yeah, like you you just you just have to be aggressive.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and like the the on ball kind of lack of confidence, it translates into when you are standing on the perimeter and you get an open shot. Like if you if you have the ball and you are you know scared and tentative and and dribbling backwards, then when you get an open shot on the perimeter, you can't that that mindset translates where you are you're rushing which I feel like Fedor did a lot of that. Oh yeah, where like to start the game, and I think Fedor is probably uh one of our best guys to get to the rim.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and also a a good ball handler.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but he's no confidence, he just looked so scared, and then today, you know, not only not attacking, but then when he had chances when he's open, stance to wide open threes, yeah. Just missing them.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, and and I I think that if you are if you're playing confident and you are attacking an aggressive defense, then then those times where the ball gets swung to you and you're feeling confident, like you're gonna knock down at least one of those one of those three. I think in the first half, Fedora had three or four wide open threes in the corner, and he didn't even hit the rim.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I mean these one for nine oh six. I mean, these guys, these guys are they're way too good of shooters to airball shots. And like the one like Josh Dix airballs, like at least he you know forces a defense, does a step back. Like, that's that's a difficult shot. The other ones, these guys are standstill shooters, like those are guys that have zero confidence in their game and they got the ball. Their first look is probably to somebody else, then okay, I'm gonna shoot it, and I you know you just have to compliment the sportsman, the biggest sportsman of the year.

SPEAKER_02

Um, as I mean how many shots did he shoot today?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, what was just 14 22 for 14 shots.

SPEAKER_03

He only shot 14 times.

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Which I was I mean, I was ready to to ride Josh.

SPEAKER_02

I was fine if Josh did uh I wanted Josh to shoot 22 times. Yeah, he hit that three that brought us back into hopeful land. And then he missed the next one, but we were all like through that. It was a good shot. It was a good thing. Green light. Green fucking light, dude.

SPEAKER_04

Fedora and Austin were three for twenty. Oh you think you think maybe we could have given you think maybe we could have given five of those shots elsewhere?

SPEAKER_02

My cleaning hop's gonna have to help.

SPEAKER_03

How many minutes nuts and greater play?

SPEAKER_01

14.

SPEAKER_03

Not enough.

SPEAKER_02

14 minutes? Yeah, three three points, two shots. We're gonna harp on that a bunch. We can spend the whole time talking about what are you doing.

SPEAKER_01

But I mean, at the same time, it's like he's it does it matter who's on the floor if you are you know you're you're a power five guy and you're standing in the corner wide open for three shots.

SPEAKER_03

Like you gotta 100%. I I agree with you 100%.

SPEAKER_01

It does like at some point it doesn't matter about coaching and rotation. Yeah, sometimes you just gotta make a fucking shot.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Oh, I agree.

SPEAKER_04

I kind of feel bad about being Austin in with Fedora on that because Austin, as much as I shit talk, he was at least trying to create when the offense was stagnant. Yeah, Fedora was and I'm his big I'm his biggest fan. It was just standing there.

SPEAKER_03

Austin's swore shots were really good within the offense. Like you just have to make them. Like it's and you know, and I don't, and again, we talk about this. We're neither one of us or none of us are Division I college basketball players, but not yet. Not yet.

SPEAKER_00

Gotta keep the dream.

SPEAKER_03

But like look at you, Jack. But I mean, like, I got one more. You just gotta you gotta pull up and you you have to make those shots.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like you just you, you know, he missed a couple mid-range jumpers. Like you you hate to say it, but you know what? Bud Clark didn't miss those shots. I think I might fucking Darr didn't make the didn't miss those fucking shots. I might go walk on it, Belgium. Seriously. Yeah, you gotta and especially in the in the tournament where in a game like this where every possession matters, like you just have to jump up and make the shot.

SPEAKER_01

And especially in a game, Creighton didn't. Yeah. Like really. Yeah, yeah. It was kind of a you know, it was a perfect encapsulation of how we were throughout the year with multiple droughts offensively.

SPEAKER_03

Where we're I would like to know. I mean, if if we do another one of these, I would like to know how many three plus minute droughts Creighton went into this year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, like it's I mean, it's it's probably gonna make everybody think.

SPEAKER_04

That's a deeper, that's a deeper it is seriously.

SPEAKER_02

That's not our yeah, we I mean, but we're like we're like piss drunk, dude. I don't I can't look that up. No, no, I say for another one. That's another target. But you said if. And remember what we say it's a show that never ends. That's a good point. No, we will I'm in. We'll try. I'm in. Once we get Joe here, Joe will know.

SPEAKER_03

Joe's already talks to me. I know I love Joe.

SPEAKER_04

Joe's child is due suited. Let's The Day of the Crown Championship.

SPEAKER_02

Remember, we're gonna podcast from the delivery room. Yeah, we're going to Casey. Heads up, Joe.

SPEAKER_01

That's uh Fedora subject.

unknown

Fedor.

SPEAKER_02

I kept trying to guess his baby's name. It was hilarious. Isaac Miles subject.

SPEAKER_01

But I really did think with this roster construction that this team would avoid those droughts. Yeah. And it seems like it seems like not only did we not avoid those, that was that was our biggest bugaboot. Like it was worse than it's been in a long time.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know what the time was on it today, but there was a 10-0 run, a 9-0 run, and a 7-0 run.

SPEAKER_02

And we just have to keep we just kept trying to claw back, but we don't have the gumption.

SPEAKER_04

You can't do that three times and fight back against Seton Hall. You just can't.

SPEAKER_03

Not not this team. Other teams you could you could argue.

SPEAKER_02

Well, Seton Hall did it in Omaha.

SPEAKER_04

72 for Seton Hall is 90 for any other respectable. Yes. No, there's no respectable biggie. Didn't they win 82, 81 here? No.

SPEAKER_03

It was 69, 68. Okay. I was thinking of a different loss.

SPEAKER_02

Another. I was thinking of uh one of the other losses.

SPEAKER_04

DePaul was DePaul was 72, 71 both times. Yep. Uh but no, nobody had cracked 70 either game. No.

SPEAKER_03

Was that Xavier? Xavier did 81, 82 at the game. The first Satan Hall game was 56-54. Yeah. Okay. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

And we were up 16.

SPEAKER_02

Right? Oh. I just keep throwing up on the carpet. I'm gonna throw up.

SPEAKER_01

Which I mean, today open shots, too many offensive rebounds, and then uh missed free throws. I mean, front ends of one in ones were like against a team like Seton Hall who wants to one limit possessions and two just kind of muck it up.

SPEAKER_02

Anybody like went into the locker room after the game and like kicked a water jug over? Or were they like, that's good. Yeah, just that's fine.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like like is there somebody who's fucking cares? Is it a question?

SPEAKER_03

It's an it's a great question.

SPEAKER_01

Is there somebody who cares that?

SPEAKER_02

Is it just kind of like silent after and they just walk in and pack up and say, Hey, um it's pretty clear in half, give the ball to Josh Dix.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. I don't know if he punched a cooler or anything, but it seemed pretty clear the gameplay was let Josh have the ball, let Josh do his thing, and that worked really good.

SPEAKER_01

I would have I know for him to only get four uh 14 shots is Josh.

SPEAKER_04

Big Graves had 10 shots. Yeah, which Austin Schwartz had 11. Worst yeah, you're telling me a few of those can't go to Josh Dicks.

SPEAKER_02

His foul out was the worst call the day. Easy.

SPEAKER_04

Well, he made dumb plays, and I don't really give a shit to be.

SPEAKER_02

No, I know, I just meant bad call, bad call, bad.

SPEAKER_03

I said it. Yeah, the other day.

SPEAKER_04

Well, three of his fouls were stupid fucking plays.

SPEAKER_03

I was just I was talking about the other day, I was like, I can't remember what we were talking about, but I was like, in like five years, is anybody gonna remember Nick Graves on Creighton's basketball team?

SPEAKER_02

I I think I I think in a decade I'll be like, oh yeah, he did regress. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Like, that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_04

Like, no, more people will love Connor Cashaw. Yeah, and I can't stand that man. Yeah, I mean, like, I thought he was the biggest waste of a roster spot.

SPEAKER_01

His game winner against but this year will be yeah, it'll be kind of just tossed into that 2015 year where it's like, yeah, yeah, I mean, it was kind of a fun one to be at, but inconsequential.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. He's a loser with a loser mentality. We're down more than two possessions, he hangs his head, he does dumb shit. You and I know that was kind of harped on when it's kind of picked up steam on the uh what is brain guys from losing programs do. If you're a he's the epitome of it.

SPEAKER_02

If you're a fucking senior, yeah, you better galvanize the troops, yeah, not do what what he's done pretty much every loss.

SPEAKER_03

Um and that's and I and I agree with you 100%, and I feel like Josh Dix is like he he's just not that type of guy, which which sucks. Because like I feel like if he was just more is your mom alive?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sorry, but like like and that's not funny, but but but he's just he's not that type of leader. Things are like he's not that type of and he never was, I guess. He never was even at home. No, he's not, he's not the type of leader where like, hey, get on my back, everybody. Like, let's let's let's go. When you're when you're leader back, here we go. And that's a and that's what's missing from Creighton this year, is like Ashworth and Kalkbrenner and Trey and Bailey. Jemia and Jemia, and all those guys are like, hey, let's fucking pick it up. Hey, pick it up. Hey, get on my back, follow what I do. Like, this is what we're gonna do. Who on this year's team could you be like, all right, yeah, that's that's what that's that guy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, our captain this year was a mild-mannered junior from Miller Norton.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like exactly, and we all love Jason Green. Yeah, but he wasn't good enough to start. But I'm saying he could start, but he's not your leader. He is not the leader, he is not a leader of a He's the silent assassin. Of a if you want to win, he is not he is if you want to go to the final four, which all Creighton fans want, Jason Green is. Not your leader of a Final Four basketball team. Yeah, I mean you need some Jason. You need some animation. And this is not and this is and this is not a dig on Jason Green because if Jason Green is not on this team, Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

But but uh but our upper classmen are not leaders. No, and that like I think the most like um I guess animated player was probably maybe Blake.

SPEAKER_03

Like yeah, actually, if you if you watch, if you watch Packet's, if you watch Hudson Greer, he's a very, very animated basketball player.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna cross Ty Davis off this conversation just for relevant minutes, guys. That's great.

SPEAKER_03

No, Hudson is my you're correct. Like if you watch, if you watch Hudson Greer and all the things that he does, like he is a very, very animated basketball player and a guy that you should follow. Like, regardless of what happens, good, bad, ugly, that guy is up on the bench cheering his team on, doing different things.

SPEAKER_02

Like, and I and again, there's not no Yukon player would have squared up like against your exactly, yeah. Like dunking, let's dunk on someone, yeah, and then cause a problem. Exactly. Like when um Damian Jefferson pumping the crowd up shit. Are you kidding me? And like like who would do that? And like how Mo Watson was like fiery, right?

SPEAKER_03

Fiery. I mean, I don't know how much I would pay to have Mo Watson. Like, uh like Jesus, dude. Like, I dude. Mo Watson. But he was surrounded by wonderful, a wonderful team.

SPEAKER_01

And I think this team is surrounded by the city.

SPEAKER_03

I think this team has the piece of surrounded. His junior year when he played, he was not.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I yeah, I mean it had the best court vision that's uh ever existed, at least in CHI.

SPEAKER_03

What's tough is his I'll take debates, but I don't know. I mean, his senior year was obviously marred by, but I mean, he if his if his senior year on the court no, I I get it. I'm just saying, like, I just want to give him all his props.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, exactly. Like if you don't think him being the point yard of this team would have made them a bona fide tournament loss, that's not what he's saying.

SPEAKER_02

It's just no, I'm just saying there's no there's no more Watson, no character.

SPEAKER_01

There's no and you you mentioned it earlier. You were saying when we needed a bucket, do you remember at any point this year of something that in action or a guy that we would go to that was a reliable you know run stopper? In in I'd say, yeah, maybe we'd we'd draw up in action, but it would end in like Josh shooting a three, yeah. Which I I don't think is uh usually a grenade as well.

SPEAKER_03

That's it was usually Nick Graham's holding it for nine seconds and throwing it. That's not the best play. And like you watch all of the teams Creighton win against this year when they needed a bucket, 95% of the time they got one. And if they didn't, it was a look that was inside the three-point. Yes. Creighton, when they needed a bucket, I don't remember them getting a bucket. Yeah, and it was like and if it was, it was like a tough shot, which probably wasn't.

SPEAKER_01

It would be isolating Blake, you know, on the right side of the floor to let him get to his left left hand.

SPEAKER_04

But the fuck were his minutes today?

SPEAKER_01

I think that's I think Blake was three, four?

SPEAKER_04

No, I mean I know how many he played. I just I don't get them.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think like I think Well, we've said it time and time again. It's the same thing over and over. Listen, we don't have the formula, we never had it all year.

SPEAKER_03

So his effort was none of us can put none of us are at practice, so we don't know. Yeah. I mean, if there's anything we I mean, you've been at practice before.

SPEAKER_02

We we all have a long time ago.

SPEAKER_03

Everybody's been at practice. Like, if you were not giving effort in practice and doing things right, McDermott is not gonna play you. Yeah, I've never been kicked out of practice though, like some guys on the team. Like, I mean, that's just I mean, that's just a that's just a given. And everything you hear, Harper is a terrible practice guy.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, I mean, it was even I actually heard that. Our best our I wasn't eavesdropping or anything.

SPEAKER_01

Our best win of the year was was Yukon. And you know, Blake plays those last eight minutes, but you know, after the game, he was like, Yeah, I uh shitty practice this weekend.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't even expect the minutes. Yeah, yeah. If they weren't it, if they didn't get in foul trouble, he didn't he doesn't play, right? I mean, that's the way Harper made it sound. Same story today.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Isaac doesn't get in foul trouble, Blake probably doesn't come in there. Yeah, which means that two and a half, three minute road that there's I mean, there's zero shot he's here next year.

SPEAKER_03

Correct.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I mean I'd like to see Blake here.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. I'll back Mike Sib. Yeah, I don't I mean the uh that's not that I don't want him here next year. I just there's with the transfer portal and everything like that, there's just there's just zero shot he's gonna be able to do it.

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, um McDermott and Huss had lunch at Beard's last week, and I asked that info a little. All right. I did. I love it. I I asked because I'm just gonna I'm gonna say it. Um, I said I said I said Austin. Full said, Yeah, full said. I said uh there's no way Austin's coming back because you know you don't like him and nobody likes him. Um and the coaches like they obviously are not gonna divulge any information to uh fucking fry cook. But um You're more of the mask. I know, I know. I'm not trying to put myself poor about it. But that Philly was really good today. Thank you. Um it was uh but anyways, they were they were like, and I think there's uh some honesty in this. Both of them said, we don't even fucking know who's coming back. Or like it's it's anyone's guess. Because remember, we thought Nemahard was coming back, Gonzaga, yeah, and then you know, it you just don't know now. Yeah, um it's up and that's just the way it's going. That's college sports, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, it's crazy. So, like, so the the last game, the last home game against Providence. I may or may not have stayed at a bar for a long time, and there was a coach there, and I sat with him. I won't say who he is because I don't want to throw him under the bus. I don't I don't I'm not gonna throw him under the bus, but Justin Carter. His his his comments about certain players made just were very eye-opening. Yeah, you know, and and it's one of those things that like and and I get we all sit there and we watch games and we're like, what what is this coaching staff doing? You know, like what are we doing? And and if anybody knows anything about basketball, like you can you you know, you can say you can do whatever you want to you're blue in the face. They have to go out there and do it, yeah. You know, and I think that is the biggest issue this year is this coaching staff is trying everything that they possibly can. And you can tell by the rotations and things like that that they are trying everything, and it's just not working. And and that, and I I mean, I don't know. I mean, Hawk's been a coach, I've been a coach. Uh, you guys have all been coaches, right? No, yes, sir. Yeah, and like, I mean, you can do whatever you want to do.

SPEAKER_02

Holy cross said, absolutely cross said no, no thank you.

SPEAKER_03

You can do you can do whatever you want to do, you can say whatever you want to say, but like at some they have to go out there and execute it. And and I think that's the biggest issue this year, is these guys are just not getting it, and they are not going, and they're not, and all they're not skilled enough.

SPEAKER_02

Everybody will blame coaching, which is fair, which is 100%. But also, coaching does not get a ball. I think that's the hardest puzzle for this Creighton coaching staff has ever had. Oh, for sure. This is a 10,000 piece puzzle that they don't know how to put together. Yeah, they can't even get the frame done, right? Like, yeah, and it's you got a weird piece on the internet. What the hell is that?

SPEAKER_01

What else do you want to what else do you want to draw up for for a guy like Fedor to get multiple standstill threes? I mean, what'd you say?

SPEAKER_03

He was all of six of six from three. And I mean, l I think maybe one was guarded.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, how literally unacceptable.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so literally he was all of five wide open shots.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. How else do you want to to draw up or or go in rotations uh for guys to guys like Austin or uh Jason to miss front ends of one and ones? Yeah, yeah. You know, that's you're you gotta make them. You're you know, you're a you're a big time basketball player. It's a bad team. You're on you're in Madison Square Garden in a close game. You gotta make front ends of one and ones.

SPEAKER_02

They are it is that they are a bad team. It's a bad team. It's it's and I know it we on paper it doesn't look like it.

SPEAKER_03

No, they are yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. And then you watch you watch them against UConn at UConn, then you watch them second half against Butler, and you're like, they're not a bad team. But then, you know, when you you wide scope, you're like, yeah, it's a bad dad. It's a bad basketball team. I mean, that first half was so bad. You're gonna get swept by DePaul and Providence. Yeah, like I are you fucking me right? I like I mean the first half today was just awful basketball. It was just, I mean, if if it was the Creighton team of last year, they're uh 12, 15 points against the Seton Hall team.

SPEAKER_02

I don't easily I wasn't able to watch the first four minutes. We were quite busy. And then I look at after the 16-minute media in the first half, and I look at Hawk and I said, five to two? What this is just it so it was just bad. Yeah, and on both in both sides. Yeah, 100%.

SPEAKER_03

That's that's the thing, is we I mean, we said it earlier, like Seton Hall's not good, and you give up 72 points.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's like this team that's a big eas that's a biggie.

SPEAKER_04

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

This team would do they would uh do half of the work. Yeah like you know, start the game, defensively, I think we're pretty good. Yeah, and and of course, you know, Seton Hall isn't the great greatest offensively, but it was three to two at the under 16. So, I mean, defensively, you hold a team to three points in the first four minutes. Yeah, you you you you gotta think yeah, you're doing your job on one end of the floor. But we just so consistently were not able to translate stops to scores on the other end, which allowed us allowed other teams to just stick around and then take advantage of when we would finally go on. We had just had too many uh you know, streaks where we where we couldn't score. Yeah, and we it just felt like we were so unable to take advantage of when we were playing well on that defensive side of the floor. Like I you know, if we're if we are running good offense and and the ball's popping and we're playing with pace in that first four minutes, and we're up, you know, 10 to 3, 8-3, then you know, Seaton Hall can we kind of force them to match our tempo. We get them it it this game reminded me so much of remember when we played at uh UNLV like three or four years ago. Was that Thanksgiving?

SPEAKER_04

It was in the non-con sometime, but it was right when what's his name got ruled eligible uh goddamn it. I'm not gonna remember it.

SPEAKER_01

Oklahoma State got like we just we were playing so shitty that we just matched their pace and they just walked the ball up the court, which is what Bud Clark was doing today. And it was 20 25 second possessions where just minutes were just draining off the clock.

SPEAKER_02

Um and it it begs the question if they even wanted to win. Um but we'll get to that in a second. Uh I want to do a quick shout-out to a few things. Um first off, we didn't um we didn't choose. Cheers, my cheers, my guys. And that is from we did get signed. From no, we didn't, we didn't. But that's from Bush, Barbarian. If you're gonna make it a beer, make it a bush.

SPEAKER_01

Get a green Barbarian, get a green butt light.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. Um also I want to give a shout out to Alex Meisenbach for and her dad for these wonderful hats we're sporting. I'm sure you guys saw them online. The classic the Jays basketball logo. Love these. Fucking so sweet. I feel so cool right now.

SPEAKER_01

Go buy the hats, go by the jackets.

SPEAKER_02

Let's I also want to give a big shout out to Christian Vinjamuri, who we miss dearly. Wish he was sitting here with us in sadness in Omaha. But guess what? He might be able to see the Jays in action again.

SPEAKER_04

Boo. Boo. That was the UNLV, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. Did you just cut me off?

SPEAKER_04

Fuck yeah. Sorry, well bad.

SPEAKER_02

Get him out. The corn. I'm kidding. No, no, I'm I'm I'm sorry, what? Um it's like a congressional hearing. It's my time. It was my time.

SPEAKER_03

You guys, you guys look good in the hurt at brand. But also, I filibustered. Like those things are those things are sweet.

SPEAKER_01

Go buy them because I mean we always complain about the the gear.

SPEAKER_03

Alex, Alex Meisenbach.

SPEAKER_01

Love we always complained about like the gear and stuff, but so go buy them.

SPEAKER_02

Where did he go to high school?

SPEAKER_01

He went to the old CP. Go blue.

SPEAKER_03

Well, Brett. Um he's a citywide sports champ, though. Hawk was on that team. Yes, correct.

SPEAKER_01

City of Omaha.

SPEAKER_04

You won't find you will not find a better shot from the short quarter. Yeah. The lost art of the short quarter, that man, Alex Weisenbach.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. But Christian, we love you. We miss you. We'll we'll have you back as soon as we can. I love you. But also, but but that was my segue. That was my segue into crown talk. I might see you. All right.

SPEAKER_04

Might see you soon.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Coder's definitely going. If they accept or invited to the crown. So let's go there. Um, like I just said, do they even do they want to play again? Yeah. Do we even want to watch again?

SPEAKER_03

So so everything, so everything I've heard, they 100% want to continue to play.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Mac actually said, yeah, there's some postgame stuff coming up that we don't wait for reasons. But they want to play. Yeah, I mean I saw John Rodney.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, I I the biggest question I have is is McDermott coaching next year? I mean, we we just the biggest thing.

SPEAKER_02

I asked him and I and then I immediately retracted and said, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. You can just announce when you want. Um and he just kind of laughed. But seriously, tell me. But the way uh the way they were talking looked like no. Um honestly, like I I just I heard I sort I heard Alan say um I just I I'll spill it. My team. Yeah. And I was like, oh, that's telling. There's something in that. Um I don't want to out anything because I don't know. I literally don't know.

SPEAKER_04

But breaking news, we don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But you know, it was interesting that it was just those two. They didn't invite any other coach, any you know, and I think it was just those two having a nice powwow. Um I know that they were complaining about NIL and how we just SEC, we you just can't really you can't.

SPEAKER_01

You can't compete with them, but um you gotta get guy get worthy guys of yeah, it's like I don't think that we uh were you know strapped for cash when we went and got Owen. You just gotta you know you just gotta hit on it.

SPEAKER_02

We're not in a as dark as other places, right? Yeah, we're we're fine, right? But but I mean d I think they'll accept any bid. I I McDermott said NIT. Can you do that?

SPEAKER_04

So I checked last year's NIT and there's definitely no big East teams in it. I don't I think any NIT has affiliation with the NIT anymore.

SPEAKER_03

You have to be above 500 for the NIT.

SPEAKER_04

And I also that is a rule. I also think it's an uh it's an ESPN thing.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

I actually had the brackets on the other.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I mean I thought with the crown now, I thought that um the NIT was only under mid-najor. Yes, has to be under the top five.

SPEAKER_04

If you win your conference but don't win the conference tournament, and then they sprinkle in some uh ESPN affiliates, is my understanding.

SPEAKER_02

I did look before we started this, and there was nobody the big east has no affiliation with ESPN, so right, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That's I'd say un unlikely at the best. I think the the crown would be our crown or bust.

SPEAKER_03

But and then when it comes to the crown, I mean, honestly, like a joke there somewhere. I mean, if they're if they're not going to the crown, they're not playing anywhere else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but are we gonna get invited? Because that it's about net ranking, right? It is, yes.

SPEAKER_01

So at the beginning of today, Providence had jumped us.

SPEAKER_02

Even with the and I've here's the thing.

SPEAKER_03

So so Creighton's not gonna Creighton's not gonna drop very much because I mean Seton Hall was like a 52 net ranking and losing to them by 11, and you look at control of the game, like I mean, it was close. So I mean, they're not gonna drop very much.

SPEAKER_02

But how but how could you just justify accepting a postseason um invitation when Kim knows he's dead? Um exactly.

SPEAKER_03

So I I agree with you. Yeah, so like we I mean, we talked about this earlier, like everything that I have heard is Kim English will be fired soon at Providence. That's so so they're not going to go to a postseason tournament, but and so that opens it up for Creighton to go. Now, like I mean, Seton Hall, Seton Hall goes on tomorrow to beat St. John's, they're right there in the NCAA tournament.

SPEAKER_02

Their first four out or yeah, they're yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you win at Madison Square Garden uh against uh St. John's. Like, you're I mean, the bubble is awful. Yeah, and the fact that in it out we talked about this today, like it bothers me that Seton Hall is nowhere near the bubble. Yeah like I and again. I know I mean I know I said earlier that Seton Hall's not a good team, but neither is a Oklahoma, Auburn, New Mexico, BCU, an 18 and 16 Auburn team. Like that's not a good team either.

SPEAKER_04

So the mild uh I crossing off Providence on the list of this whole situation. Butler's 85, we were 82 going into the day. Does that drop? I it won't drop. I didn't think so, but Providence moved ahead of us from what 82 to 79.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but um I I mean it's a it's a loss to a team that's at 52 in the net. Like that's not that's not gonna drop you very far. Um so I and again, this is a sad debate. Exactly. Like this is a debate I we were hoping to not have because we were hoping to have the hey you lost the St. John's.

SPEAKER_02

You know, here's my little point though about Providence is that even with Kim leaving, do the Providence boosters want that NIL money? Do they want to go to the crown to win?

SPEAKER_03

Well, they need it.

SPEAKER_02

And that's what I'm saying is do you Because you you need to keep those I don't I know they're in a transition period with English leaders. But do do the does the college itself say dude? No, we're going. I agree. Like we're going to play to win to get that money.

SPEAKER_03

Because your roster may, you know, when it all said and done, may be the best roster going to the crown. Yeah. I mean, honestly. You look at that roster that Providence has. That's such a good roster. Oh, we saw it up close.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Sad, sad days. Right? Sad days.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I mean, I I'm in the boat of you know, play as many games as you can. Um to, I don't know, not only like win to win basketball games, which I think is just like important for the program. Yeah. Uh, but then yeah, I don't know, you also kind of just keep get more looks at um guys that you're unsure of. Like even if you know, even if Josh sits for the crown, or like Nick sits at the crown, like getting getting more like getting more looks at uh Hudson or you know, or Blake I I think that that that's valuable.

SPEAKER_02

As annoying as it is, like, clear that we're we're gonna play if invited. It's a done deal. I would I would hope so. Oh no, McDermott said it. Oh, did it? Okay. Postgame McDermott already said it's a done deal. If we're invited anywhere, we'll play. Um also the CBI canceled today. Do you see that? Yeah, yeah, that was uh huge news. Um they just said we can't do it this year logistically, and they said we'll be back next year, but and that that sucks for so many good, you know, semi-good mid-majors that wanted to keep playing like you said.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I mean, you and again, I'm not gonna shout, you know, but Navy. Navy had won like 17 straight games, they lost in the finals of their conference tournament. They 100% should go get to play in a in a tournament. Yeah. You know, and I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

They'll probably go to the NIT, right? I don't I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I think that I think that would be a team that is an NIA NIT team, but yeah, but like I I think of God, was it the 2015? It was uh it was Mo's Mo's first year that he was playing. Um and we we made it to it was either the quarterfinals, it must have been the quarterfinals because it was just before the final four of the NIT. Um that we we lost to BYU. Yep. Uh and then and it just kind of springboarded that team to they beat Memphis in Omaha.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was a crazy mistake. Then we just like that. Yeah, and it just kind of still played. Well, I I tweeted it to Jay's Classic today. I was like, after because he it was when Cole Huff went off in the Big East tournament. That was the same year, and I was like, and then they unleash Kyrie Thomas, you know. So it's just kind of a springboard, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Who knows? Maybe Hudson gets hot if you if you play some more games in that just kind of springboard somebody into you know a lot of confidence and oh, and and then maybe it it it maybe gets somebody to stay. Somebody that you want to stay.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. We're just gonna keep drinking. I love the crack of the I hate I really hate to do what I'm about to do.

SPEAKER_04

But Nebraska.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, 100%.

SPEAKER_04

Kale Kale Jacobson and the crown.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

If they don't play the crown, Kale Jacobson transfers. Yeah, he goes to he's elsewhere.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. He goes to mid-major and he's a good player there, but now he's just still a walk-on getting great minutes for them.

SPEAKER_04

And not only did he become a pivotal rotational guy, he's about to get a bag to stay in this year. And I really don't want to use that as the comparison.

SPEAKER_01

But I mean, yeah, it's it's 100% right. Yeah, so I don't know. I think more games and and more practices is just good for your crown.

SPEAKER_03

I would look like going to the we should make a bullgrade.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I 100%. We were joking earlier about do we even want to watch them again? I do. Oh, we do. Of course, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you mocked me if that I'm good. I'm gonna go.

SPEAKER_03

I know you're gonna go. I didn't we didn't mock you, we said go. I mean, that that year you're just referencing, like literally nobody knows anything, and then all of a sudden, in that NIT, they unleashed Kyrie Thomas. And then all of a sudden, he's two-time big east defensive player of the year. You know, like I'm not saying that that's on this Creighton roster, but you gotta keep it. You don't you don't know, and you know, and you you literally have nothing to lose. You can you put all your chips middle of the table and you say, Hussen Greer, go play 32 minutes. Do it, go play. Yeah, go play 32 minutes, like it doesn't matter, and you hate at the expense of like Josh Dix, but I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah, you gave it you gave it to Yeah, you gave everything you have for Josh would welcome playing in a crate in Jersey again. I think you would love that. Like bettering the program, yeah, but like leaving something better than hey, your minutes are going down because I want to see what Hudson Greer has.

SPEAKER_02

Do you want to play in a high school gym in Germany or do you want to play M M Gram like what's up? No, I meant like playing in Europe, if you want to do it. But like those gyms, do you want to play in a huge, beautiful arena?

SPEAKER_01

Well, and you you have so many resources, so it's not like it's not like all hands are gonna be on deck for the crown. You know, it's like Trey and Mitch can go and scout the transfer portal. Yeah. While you're also you know, getting you know running practices to get ready for for the crown. Like they you can there there's a reason why there's like 25 assistants and GAs on staffs. Like there's so many.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you really have to think about everyone in this scenario, and like the manages, like you really have to think about, dude, let's go to Vegas. Yeah, fuck yeah. Yeah, yeah. Let's have some fun and let's play some basketball and win it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know, like it doesn't hurt to play more basketball. Jarbe Q, I can run chairs out.

SPEAKER_01

Is there is there an NIL incentive at the Crown?

SPEAKER_03

There is yeah it's 300.

SPEAKER_04

Do you recall Gus Johnson talking about it last year?

SPEAKER_03

He was losing his mind. Playing for the band! He was losing his mind blasting.

SPEAKER_01

What I wouldn't give just hear Gus Johnson say that Marshall.

SPEAKER_04

The Ohio State football thing. I can't do Gus Johnson anymore. It's eight Saturdays of fall. I that's why I need to go to the crowd so I do not have to listen to Gus Johnson.

SPEAKER_03

We're sorry for your winning football program. It must be rough.

SPEAKER_02

Big dude every week. Gus John. Oh, yeah, that must be rough, man. Oh, being an Ohio State football fan. That's really rough. Great, but great decade. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

As Christian always says, our our best friend, uh, he always says there's a finite amount of Jay's games we get to watch. Yeah. You know, and like every year that passes, it's it's one less year of Jay's games we get to watch. So if we get to watching out there, I'm getting out there, guys. We get to watch more Jay's games. All right. Um, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I'm pretty sure I love them. I'm pretty sure I have cancer. I haven't been screened or anything, but pretty sure I got it. So I don't know. The pink out game, you made it clear. You uh this will be my last broadcast, guys. No. Um I'm dying. I'm not. I'll be here for a little bit. St. Patrick's Day.

SPEAKER_03

You're here.

SPEAKER_02

That's the one. That's it.

SPEAKER_03

Come.

SPEAKER_02

I won't make it to the crown. Hey, come hey, come to Barrett's. St. Patrick's Day. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Sweet blast. Um, but I think it's gonna be I I think we're gonna play again. I do. Regardless of pro I mean, I don't know. We'll see.

SPEAKER_01

And who knows? Maybe we're gonna be able to do that.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know how the blast spots work for the crowd.

SPEAKER_01

I genuinely never thought I would have to think about it.

SPEAKER_02

I think it's it's wide open. It's up in the air.

SPEAKER_04

Like they're probably gonna take like New Mexico and somebody, another Fox school. Fox school affiliate.

SPEAKER_03

But I mean, honestly, I think that I think that they will be able to do it. Arizona State. I think they will be I think they will be heavy on a on a Big East team. So you'll you'll get the two automatic Big East teams, and then they'll be heavy on the other two Big East teams. And who knows, maybe we're maybe we're playing. I mean, why wouldn't you?

SPEAKER_02

I don't think they can I don't think there can be more than two from a conference.

SPEAKER_04

No, there can. Yeah. Okay. There's six spots guaranteed and two at largest. Yeah, there's two at largest. Okay. So yeah. They cut it down from 16 to 8 this year because it's a disaster of a tournament, but we're not gonna talk about that part.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Maybe maybe we're playing in it and you know, Huss or Mac see somebody that we like.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

And you know, we get a face-to-face.

SPEAKER_03

What's funny is I know that there's a lot of teams, like lower level teams, that are not playing in tournaments because they for that exact reason, they do not want other teams to see these guys.

SPEAKER_04

So no boys like Boise was one of the favorites last year in the crowd. Yeah, like I'm just assuming that Mountain West first team out is in, which could be New Mexico because they're gonna take a dog shit Auburn team or something like that instead. And yeah, that's what I don't want to be.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, some of these like lower, like mid major teams are like, no, we're not gonna go showcase our players because we don't want other teams to come and Okey State. Oh, he's already said no. Let's say let's say no. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Coach Letz fucked me last night. I had a three-teamer. Oh, it sounds like you had a good night, Coach. He should have he should have fouled. I had TCU minus seven and a half. Wait, TCU got a rebound with like nine seconds left and they didn't foul.

SPEAKER_02

Boss on the hook. You're saying Emily watched Steve Lutz fuck you. Emily was us. We don't kick shame. Well, that's even worse. It was like you cheated on Coach Lutz.

SPEAKER_04

We don't kick shame. We do not kick shame any of our coaches, any of our producers.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no. I I wish Emily was here. I do. I wish Alex was here, I wish Sophia was here. But it's just the boys, and that means more bush barbarians.

SPEAKER_01

Do we I want to God? I want to see us play again.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I do too.

SPEAKER_01

What if you know what would be really annoying is if we just we come out, we play in the crown and we just play so well. We are just firing on all cylinders. Owen playing. Owen averages like 15 a game.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, if that was the case, I'd be mad. But I'd say let's go win the fucking thing. Yeah. But if Owen's getting 22 a game, fuck my ass.

SPEAKER_03

Like I just I there's you know, there's zero possibility. There's no way he's gonna dress again that he plays.

SPEAKER_04

I don't think he'll ever be back in Omaha. No.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Go back to Moline.

SPEAKER_04

Like, maybe he's gotta come grab a couple things, but I assume I don't know what Creighton's free break is. I just assume he's can finish up online and uh good luck.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That was uh it was a good owen was a good um Murray State would love to have you. I don't wanna say a reset for us, but just a good kind of eye-opener for us that you know sometimes you miss in the portal.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And and you know, obviously that was just such a big thing.

SPEAKER_02

It was like fool's gold. Like so shiny, so nice. It looked like a great pickup. We were all ecstatic. It was fool's gold.

SPEAKER_01

And and that happened.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, I don't I don't think anybody could have seen this happening. Yeah. Dolan Freeman. Like, I'm honestly, like he was Big Ten freshman of the year. Like, they don't just like give that out. That's a huge award. Like, I mean, that's not just like uh hey, a random dude in the a freshman scored 15 points. Like he was really good. And so like that kills me. Yeah, like I it's super it's it's just super weird what happened. And and I know there's a shit ton of Iowa fans out there, like, we told you but is the bad pet is the big teddy just a bad conference?

SPEAKER_04

A lot of people are saying that.

SPEAKER_02

I and you've said it a lot, which I hey, I'm not I'm saying I did actually look at no, I'll I'll say like if Bennett Sturts was our starting point card, I would hate that.

SPEAKER_04

Everyone here would hate that. No, yes, dude.

SPEAKER_03

He's gonna be worse than Nick Graves. No, but it would be the Dan it would be the Dana. I'm just saying it.

SPEAKER_04

Like, no, but it would be the Dana Walman first one of the 60 bullshit.

SPEAKER_03

Now that would yeah, I'd take it.

SPEAKER_04

I'd take it. The majority would not take it. But I was looking up the Big Ten Awards the other day because somebody asked about uh Nebraska two years ago. It was scrolling through the list of uh all Americans, all conference, this, that. It was just reading through freshman of the year, Owen Freeman. Just a just a dick kick.

SPEAKER_03

It absolutely dick kick.

SPEAKER_04

I don't I don't understand what it was only 14 teams, not 18. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

But the injury even in it really might have been that one weird dunk, right, this offseason? I mean, that's what it was. He said he said he went up for a dunk and came down and landed wrong.

SPEAKER_01

In September, you ask us our our nightmare scenario. I don't think we'd even I don't think we'd even go as far as to talk about how bad he was this year. Like it was beyond nightmarish how I never would have thought I could post a book. You I agree. You want to know I'm with you. You want to know what kind of post a book. I know. You know what? You want to know what kind of frustrates me about about this roster construction this year is in and I kind of feel bad saying it. Because it's a great story and everything.

SPEAKER_04

Liam McChesney getting a thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

SPEAKER_01

In a in a time where we we knew that we knew that a woman was coming off of an injury and everything, and we we needed kind of depth at that position. A guy.

SPEAKER_03

But did we know JDT was gonna get hurt? No, but I didn't screw it up. Yeah, but even that's I didn't screw this in November. That's so sad.

SPEAKER_04

No, I was yelling at this at the beginning of the year. This was a fucking stupid fucking pointless waste of a roster spot. Great story. I'm sure he's a great. I'm not even gonna say kids, he's like 28. The fuck are we doing?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like I I did not understand in a time where you can, you know, you can have 15, what is it, 15? A little bit of a husband. Plus, plus the roll-up yeah, plus the roll-up.

SPEAKER_02

But I mean, God, even get a do you think he has some like dirt on Hus? Oh, I think it was fantastic.

SPEAKER_04

I think it was everyone was buddy buddy, and we thought that we had plenty of depth, and as we joked, like, oh man, if we get down to JTT, that's a problem.

SPEAKER_01

And then he looked good. He was a good one but just a guy, a guy that hadn't played in years. I don't know. I get the literally dude.

SPEAKER_03

I like this never been healthy in his entire career.

SPEAKER_01

Like, what is the I don't know if he does not give sympathy scholarships. You know how much you know, because let's let's const let's think now going forward.

SPEAKER_03

I really want to let's think worst case scenario. What that three did. Dude just hit a three. Ducane and Ducane and Rhode Island. Uh people McChesney's the Duquesne Rhode Island three that just hit 6661 with four seconds left. I want to know what that just did. That McChesney put back dunk.

SPEAKER_04

I know it cost me uh huge.

SPEAKER_01

It actually won me some cash.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well, uh glad you're a big Leah McChesney guy coach. I'm not I hope live your pockets was worth it because it cost us the season twenty dollars.

SPEAKER_03

That dude that just hit it for Roll Island just hit his ninth three in the game.

SPEAKER_04

Oh well, that's uh more than Dar had hit all season because he'd only made like two.

SPEAKER_02

How about the newcomer of the valley? Fuck Fred King. God damn. That would have been money.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not going back on that. I don't want I no. I was I was fine.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they didn't have any remorse of Fred.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think so. I'm just saying what could have.

SPEAKER_03

Well, here's the hindsight. He would have had a role. The hindsight the hindsight is if you knew Owen Freeman was gonna be as bad.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I'm saying if you're not sure, this is all like hind it's all ridiculous. I'm not saying we we should have like stuck all of our chips in on him.

SPEAKER_04

Right. I'm just saying. But like we had two roster spots being Owen Freeman and Liam McChesney, et cetera, that we spent Would you either have Fred or Liam McDonald's?

SPEAKER_03

You didn't. I mean, I'm not gonna lie. There's zero doubt in my mind that they spent anything on Liam McChesney.

SPEAKER_04

No, but if you mean if you average those two, it got two adequate centers.

SPEAKER_03

I'm guessing this is what they gave Liam. Well, here's what I was gonna say. Here's a surf side.

SPEAKER_04

No, but if you had $700,000 apiece on two big men, pretty good.

SPEAKER_03

He's not getting that much. Pretty good. There's zero possibility. You know how like airlines always uh that he got. I mean, he didn't get it. No, there's no way he got it.

SPEAKER_04

I'm saying Owen and McChesney. Well, Owen got you know one point five, we'll call it. Yeah. So if we had two adequate centers at $700,000 instead, instead of Owen and McChesney.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You get a hell of a player for that much money.

SPEAKER_01

That's my that's my thing. Like, I don't understand.

SPEAKER_04

Why we wasted a spot on him. Yes. I I there was no lack of money, there was no lack of resources.

SPEAKER_01

And especially when you are. It seemed like when Alexa signed, he was always gonna redshirt. Yeah. She's already banking that a guy that's not gonna play. But and when they signed Liam, and that was before Karen.

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

So it was like we were already we were already down two bigs.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

It just it just didn't make sense.

SPEAKER_03

You get Alexa, and you feel like you have house money with Alexa, and you're like, okay, whatever happens, yeah. If if if he somebody gets injured, we can play him. If not, we get a redshirt him, and then everybody gets injured.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like he gets injured, other people get injured, and you're like, well, shit. Like, but then the guy Yeah, we messed up there.

SPEAKER_01

But then the guy that hasn't played in two years gets injured, and you're like, you should have expected that. Oh yeah, no. And we lost a we lost a roster spot.

SPEAKER_03

Right. If you if you were doing that based on you thought Liam you were okay with Liam, that's dumb. Like that's that's dumb. Like, I mean, what he's been in college for seven years and he's been healthy for one one and a half. So why it's a huge fumble. Why?

SPEAKER_02

Let's just say you know what? We're just we're just talking in circles, guys. Yeah, I mean it's it's a fucking fumble all around.

SPEAKER_03

The roster, the roster, and that's that's the biggest thing is is everybody has come out of the woodwork and been super harsh on this staff, and I agree to an extent because the roster construction was not great.

SPEAKER_02

But now here we are at the end, yeah, and we saw what happened. So you can't really on paper it didn't look too bad. No, like would you of course, you know, I would have done what they did.

SPEAKER_03

You know, I the I probably the nick the n I the biggest thing, like I don't how do you not go after the house? Yeah, like if anybody they said a lot bit, Grace. If anybody says anything about Owen Freeman, like Shut up. Yeah. He was literally Big Ten freshman of the year. You had a chance to go get him. You lost Kyle Brenner. And you go get that and you got him.

SPEAKER_01

So like especially with the center market. The center market's so far.

SPEAKER_03

And so like, and so that is like you can bitch all you want, but like that, I I have zero issues with them. 100%. I agree. The Nick Graves thing is the biggest thing. I got a bigger problem there. The biggest issue is the Nick Graves thing because Charlotte was the slowest team in college basketball. So they were not an up-tempo team. And so you brought him in to run the offense when everybody knows that it that Creighton's offense is super difficult to come in as a first-year guy and you bring in a guy who doesn't run a high tempo offense. And so like and so that is where the issue is.

SPEAKER_01

And and him only having one year. Yeah. So you're exactly really banking on him completely adapting his style of play in one year. And you're kind of we really honestly, I think that we rolled our dice probably too much on Ty. Like I think that was maybe that's kind of what it makes me believe is the Nick the Nick like uh gamble was more was maybe more related to Ty.

SPEAKER_04

They signed him so early in the process.

SPEAKER_02

They could have shopped.

SPEAKER_01

And I mean I mean we were we were in on Nigel Prack.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm okay not acting. I'm actually okay not having him.

SPEAKER_03

And I I I agree. Like I think you you thought that okay, we have Nick Grace, but we also have we have Ty Davis. So if things go awry, we have Ty Davis at home. We have Ty Davis.

SPEAKER_02

But and poor Ty because you know he first off, when he got the what five or six starting roles, yeah things were weren't they were trending a little up. They were trending a little up. And he didn't want to start. I mean, I who wouldn't want to start? I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

He didn't sign up to be a 25-minute game guy.

SPEAKER_03

He's not a biggie starting point guard.

SPEAKER_02

I get yeah, but I'm just saying, like, yeah, it's just basically our portal was the fumble. We put all of our eggs into Owen, Josh, Blake, Austin, and pretty much the roster. I don't think.

SPEAKER_01

And like, I I just don't think that we put too much into Blake. Like, I I think that he was there's no way. I think those guys in the world. I've said it a lot, but but Blake got shifted up because of what happened to Jackson. Yeah. Like, I think that Blake probably came in as a development guy, and then Jackson gets hurt, and so it just kind of shifted him up all playing times.

SPEAKER_02

We didn't talk enough about that.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, we I never thought he should have been a starter. I said it, I said it today while we were sitting there. I was like, nobody is talking about how massive a loss Jackson McCandrew was. Huge because it was so early in the season, and you get to non-conference and you don't play a ton of good teams. So, you know, you get you get through non-conference, you get your ass kicked in Vegas, but you're like, all right, well, you know, we played some we played some pretty good teams, and you get in a non-conference, and you got off to a good start. You got off you're three and oh, you know, and you got you know, things are going well.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, and it's gonna come along, oh, it's gonna get in your like all right, we're we're all right.

SPEAKER_03

And the wheels fell off early. Yeah, and like I mean it was you got a lot of you falseness, and then all of a sudden you get to this point in the season and you're like, God, it would be nice to have a 6'10 dude that could do literally anything you want.

SPEAKER_02

You know what? After just like that the last like four minutes of conversation, actually a pretty good year, yeah. Right?

SPEAKER_03

Right, like and I know, yeah, I agree with you 100%. Like everybody's frustrated on this season, like and you couldn't draw we never really had a chance, but we win in stores, we do some fun shit, you know. Dude, you I mean, you had a you had a buy in the first round of the biggest tournament, and I know Max said that multiple times. He was like, I know how bad this season's been, but like we're still fourth place, we're still fifth place, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, we're not like we're not playing on Wednesday, yeah. Like holy shit, right? You know what? Chalk that up as a win, baby. The fact that we could even survive the top half or get into the top half at the big east is uh an accomplishment in itself.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, especially, I mean, how well Jackson was playing at the end of the year, and I know we talked about this before it we came on, but like how well Jackson was playing.

SPEAKER_01

Jackson was unbelievable that last quarter, you know, maybe third of the year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Playing lights out.

SPEAKER_01

Like yeah, like the especially the tournament games. So important.

SPEAKER_03

So important. Yeah, I mean, you can't you can't teach teach height, and you have a 6'10 guy that can spread the floor.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I I mean, there's a reason why he was the highest rated recruit that we've ever signed.

SPEAKER_02

I'm 5'9 because of the hormone issue. Thanks, Jack. Thanks too much. Thanks, Jackson Richardson.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you, Jackson Richardson, you fucking rat.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, dude, that was the day they were in. Yeah. I was it was that was a tough day. That was my first joke to Alan and Greg. I was like, fuck Jackson, right? And and they like did not laugh. They were like, I was like, oh we're gonna hate a drink.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean I was talking about the other Jackson.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I hope I hope Jackson Richardson has a a a good long NBA career. I hope he has the worst career at Alabama.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I hope he makes a lot of money and does well in the NBA.

SPEAKER_03

How many 6'7 guys do you need?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's definitely not his dad's decision. No one say online that his dad made him go to Alabama.

SPEAKER_03

He wore the same jersey, okay, as Nelson Murphy.

SPEAKER_04

No one go out there and scream that uh also Marcus Sagarowski. Come on, Dan.

SPEAKER_01

Preston Murphy's a fucking scumbag.

SPEAKER_04

Hell of a fucking recruiter. Really good.

SPEAKER_01

I like to. I can't talk 25 minutes about how big of a scumbag Press Murphy is, but.

SPEAKER_04

Where's this kid at?

SPEAKER_01

I think he's on sta. I think he's technically a walk-on out of Alabama.

SPEAKER_04

I thought he was like a five-star. What happened to that?

SPEAKER_01

The youngest uh Nebraska player to ever get a D1 offer.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Rollside.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, when he was at West Side and he mysteriously transferred there from Elkhorn South for for sketch. Whatever. Sketch.

SPEAKER_02

Sketch. Um scot off the rails, Jack. Bring it in, Jack. Bring it in. Alright. You know what? This has been a pretty long one, so I think, you know, let's let's go have some dinner.

SPEAKER_03

Fuck it. Hey, your guys' hats are beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I love it.

SPEAKER_03

Herd at brand goods.

SPEAKER_02

Love that.

SPEAKER_03

Alex.

SPEAKER_02

But um.

SPEAKER_01

I hope I hope we get to watch us again.

SPEAKER_02

That's all I got.

SPEAKER_01

I love watching Creighton Hoops.

SPEAKER_02

I know. We will be back regardless. This isn't our last podcast of season eight. Um we will continue on with a really season eight, man.

SPEAKER_01

Season seven. Seven.

SPEAKER_03

So but still uh predictions?

SPEAKER_01

We're at we got the Chad Baker Mazzara eligibility for the podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So I'm gonna go sit in the stands. I don't want to do this.

SPEAKER_02

But we'll be back and we will discuss more after we find out if we play again. But so far, we'll we'll see you next time, baby.

SPEAKER_04

I listen to the Blue Jays at the B because they're so sad.

SPEAKER_02

We'll see.
