One more life. Yeah, no. Conference foe who lives two and a half hours away.
SPEAKER_04When you're gonna do the centennial conference like that. We're back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Come on.
SPEAKER_04Put it on the final four.
SPEAKER_00Let's go. Hey, A B L U E. J. A. Y.
SPEAKER_01X.
SPEAKER_02He never gets old.
SPEAKER_01Never. How long do you think I can welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends. It is Blue Jays at the B. I am your host, Jack Jeffrey, joined by my colleagues, Patrick Hawk. Hello. How are you?
SPEAKER_02It's great to see everybody.
SPEAKER_01Mike Rishon.
SPEAKER_04It's an amazing, amazing evening.
SPEAKER_01And our wonderful guest, Peter Cunningham.
SPEAKER_04Let's go.
SPEAKER_05Excited to be here, fellas. Glad to be on the show.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Welcome.
SPEAKER_02The late, the graveyard shift for the boys.
SPEAKER_01It is late, but that's what you get when you don't make the dance. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Well, well.
SPEAKER_01Already positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, positive.
SPEAKER_02Heavy is the head that holds the crown.
SPEAKER_01Hey, there we go. Your Creighton Blue Jays knockout Ruckers in the first round of the crown tournament. Um, what was it? 8269?
SPEAKER_028269.
SPEAKER_01I nailed it. I didn't have it. There we go.
SPEAKER_04Creighton won in Vegas.
SPEAKER_01I smoke so much weed, I don't think the brain works anymore. But it did work.
SPEAKER_02The Jays won in Vegas.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Creighton won in Vegas.
SPEAKER_02So and not a consolation of any sort of theory.
SPEAKER_01So one thing I just want to point out right now is that our guest, Peter Cunningham, was part of the Creighton pep band. The Pep Pep. And he has probably played the horse over what 84 times?
SPEAKER_05Probably triple digits if we're really thinking about it. And probably do it in my sleep if you hand me the saxophone now. I should probably do it. It's all muscle memory.
SPEAKER_01You probably still hear it in your sleep. So Peter Cunningham has seen everything from the Valley to the Biggies to the and just playing, just tootin' his saxophone. It's wonderful. Um and also he's a Holy Cross Falcon.
SPEAKER_06One of the good ones.
SPEAKER_01So we obviously have to talk about that. Um we're the best, you know, grade school in the nation. Um I love it. Absolutely. Blue ribbon. Right. We're like, we're like Davidson when Dylan Travis was there. He was Steph.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we had an Olympian go to our school. I mean, it's it's a big deal.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's a big talking point for us. That's a Wikipedia first page. Right. Right near the top.
SPEAKER_01We have Boots on the Ground too. We have Pat Coder as well, he's not on the podcast right now, but he he's there.
SPEAKER_04He's an official BSN correspondent. BSN, right?
SPEAKER_01The BSN has beats boots beats I don't know. Boots on the ground. And um also our creator, Christian Benjamin. Um, we love you too. We hope you're doing well. Don't lose it all on Black Jack. Um I'm sure you will. I'm sure you will. But either way, Creighton 82 69 Ruggers, which kind of made sense to me. Um Creighton of course was favored. Um but it was only what three and a half, four and a half. Uh it probably fluctuated. But Creighton wins um in a way that is quite convincing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I agree.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, other than the first five minutes, it was I mean, we kind of dominated that game.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean at halftime Creighton being up by three, you were like it they should be up by three, they should be up by more, but I have a lot of confidence going into the second half.
SPEAKER_01Peter, what do you think?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, it was they what a little matchup zone it looked like to start the game, and it it seemed to confuse the heck out of us. I mean, it was 22 to 12, I think, at one point. So do the math real quick. That's uh 70 to math teacher. End of the game on a 70 to 47 run. So I mean we'll take that. It was a rough first, oh, about 12 minutes there, but once we got our got our flow going, we we were we're doing pretty well.
SPEAKER_01So it's it's kind of funny that we uh we left um the studio C, the castle, yeah, and came down to the B after the show that happened at Barrett's Barley Corn and the B bar.
SPEAKER_04Come check out the Ruben.
SPEAKER_02The Philly, get a Philly, vote, vote, vote for the Ruben, vote vote, vote.
SPEAKER_01Uh also, uh, let's do uh a cheers. Hey.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna make it a beer. Make it a bush bavarian.
SPEAKER_01And I'm glad that we all my fucking line, dude.
SPEAKER_04We need sponsors.
SPEAKER_01It's my line.
SPEAKER_04We need sponsors. I'm trying something new for the crown. What about uh dat?
SPEAKER_01Herd wants us bad.
SPEAKER_02It's the truth is not the transfer. It's not just the transfer portal for for players. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I thought Dave Portnoy might give us a call. Yeah, there's there's something.
SPEAKER_04There's people, there's people talking.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, fuck them all. Um we are who we are, and we're B bar to go to so far. I don't I know. I tried to make it a poem, it didn't work. But Creighton Blue Jays, Nick Graves going off tonight.
SPEAKER_04Amazing. Nick Graves with what 28? He had three at halftime, right? He didn't have much in the first half.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he had quiet. He had 28 tonight.
SPEAKER_01Uh I'm just guessing, I'm guessing numbers here.
SPEAKER_02And you know eight assists.
SPEAKER_04I think he had three at halftime.
SPEAKER_01Hey, Pete, what's the uh square root of 28?
SPEAKER_04So he went he went for 25 in the second half?
unknownShh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he had to have, yeah.
SPEAKER_04If he threw three at a half. He was outstanding in the second half.
SPEAKER_02He was really, really good. And and uh he just kind of dictated the pace. Right. People were people who didn't have the scouting report, they're jumping on the ball fakes in the paint. We'll take it.
SPEAKER_05It was a Pat Kelsey scouting report out here. Oh, wait, who are these guys? Jemai Who? I've never heard him before. Ryan Kloughfrenner can block shot.
SPEAKER_04Jackson McAndrew can shoot threes?
SPEAKER_05Well, who knew?
SPEAKER_01Weird. We gotta keep our uh you know, Jackson McAndrew, who's in a fucking wheelchair. It's Easter weekend, though. I thought I'd stand up and walk and be stealed. You know, like once they remove that that stone, yeah. The stone is moved. Jesus Christ wasn't there. Oh Good Friday is coming up.
SPEAKER_04Jackson McAndrew makes a three.
SPEAKER_01He's Peter.
SPEAKER_02Super weird, but Jason just drags him across the backside of the card as he's gonna be.
SPEAKER_01I'm definitely if I was anyone, I'm Mary Magdalene. It's a whore.
SPEAKER_04Uh didn't think this is going this route.
SPEAKER_02A little religious bancer for the holiday.
SPEAKER_01There we go. You went to fucking Thomas, you went to what?
SPEAKER_04Bernard's. Bernard's. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And Michael. Yeah. So you showered with the apostles. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02The Benedictine way.
SPEAKER_01Good nights, go nights, good nights, guys. Um, but Creighton.
SPEAKER_02But not not the Scarlet Knights.
SPEAKER_05Not the Scarlet Knights. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It seemed like they kind of came out with their heads on fire, making some tough ones. And they kind of continued to take tough ones and just started missing them. Yeah, right. We like not a good basketball team. Yeah. We played well enough. It was it's funny because you know, the panic of the terrible start. Yeah. Alright, well, we are playing in the crown. This team is has a losing record. We're at the upstairs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04At the B. We were upstairs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I feel I feel like the uh our bracket is pretty good. Uh yeah. And maybe they said, oh Max dying. They give they give him an easy route to get the crown before he um passes the torch. Pete I mean Pete, what do you think? Like uh in terms of the the way we won tonight and also the way forward.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, you just it was stand up there and we were watching the game, and I think we all said it. It's like, oh, here we go again. And you thought maybe three weeks might change some things, and you're like, oh, I don't know if we it didn't look like we practiced much for three weeks, but you know, second half, you know, I we definitely played better. I mean, that that had to do with it. I think Rutgers a little bit, I think once their craziness of shots started going, stopped going in. Then I think Nick Graves was like, shoot, these guys don't really want to play defense as hard as they were earlier. Um I think had a big deal with it, but moving forward, West Virginia, and then get that one. Hopefully, I would love to see Oklahoma on the other side. I it got a lot of great opportunities.
SPEAKER_01I would love to play Porter Moses.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, or Porter Moser.
SPEAKER_02Like like either one would be a storyline. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. You know, Baylor, like kind of our history there or Porter Mosier is fun.
SPEAKER_01And look like you said, if he was kind of the number two, if Huss didn't come back, say he stayed at high point. I think Porter was the number two.
SPEAKER_05Well, I definitely think Porter is gonna need to have a good season next year, or he's probably the way that SC works, he's probably gonna be looking for another job.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, if they didn't win three out of their last four, he's probably fired. I would have, yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_05And then they did the Brad Brown L.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they they yeah, they wanna they won some games late in the season, and all of a sudden they're like, and when you have this day and age, when you have the crazy buyout, like schools just can't pay it anymore, you know. They they look especially when it comes to basketball, like football, they're like, Yeah, yeah, we'll pay it, but like basketball, they're like, oh shit.
SPEAKER_01Look, is Nebraska still paying Bo?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think so. I I mean I wouldn't surprise me.
SPEAKER_02Like and you got the Bobby Bonita contract. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04July 1st. Yeah, happy Bobby Bonita, right?
SPEAKER_01It's the best day of the year. And you know, so Greg, and you know what? Uh let's just dive into this real quick. It's funny. Ben Jacobson taking the Utah State job.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was surprising. 20 years at Northern Iowa.
SPEAKER_04I was shocked by it.
SPEAKER_01And he won, what, 395-ish games?
SPEAKER_02With how you've been, your numbers have been tonight. I I believe you.
SPEAKER_01And then and then he takes the I the Utah State job, which to me is not a big jump. It screams N I L. Um But but also I have to say it. Does that make you think well, Greg's like yeah, uh fuck it.
SPEAKER_04I don't think so. Yeah, I just had to say it. I will say, like, normally you would you would like question it, but like this day and age with NIL and the transfer portal.
SPEAKER_01The valley.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Greg wants nothing to do with going to the valley. Like, we all know that he's but if you Creighton is struggling at that at the NIL. Yes, he ain't going to something that's gonna struggle more. Yeah. Like half the battle is like being like a fundraiser. There's zero possible, yeah. There's there's not and I and I understand what you're saying because you're like his alma mater. Hey, and make they make him say no. You know, he could you make the call.
SPEAKER_02He could I'm sure they at least read the text.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, oh absolutely. Pete, what do you think?
SPEAKER_05I mean, I I just he just the vibes I've gotten, just just his mannerisms, at especially towards the end of the year, like you said, I think he's just I think he's ready for a break and just from coaching in general. And to go to UNI, yes, probably more low-key. Um, but at the same time, the valley schools, they're starting to kind of turn into I don't want to say quite the summit league status, but you know, guys are gonna go to UNI, you're gonna you're trying to hold on to your best players. Well, UNI is gonna start those valley schools are gonna start being the stepping stone to be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but but you and I can dance. Oh, yeah. It did. Absolutely. Yeah, I do agree. So so at the same time, you love where you went to college.
SPEAKER_02Oh, 100%.
SPEAKER_01Where you coached before.
SPEAKER_02And you Yeah, if this new guy doesn't work out in three years, maybe like, yeah, I've I've golfed enough. Maybe I'll give it another shot.
SPEAKER_04There's not a there's not a thing that's I've golfed enough. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Today our coaching staff looks pretty tanned. They look like they definitely played around out in Vegas. Vanderbilt was summer. Man, he lived out there.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, Kellogg, you look really good. I've never seen Kellogg look that good.
SPEAKER_02Um Kellogg was out there at the craps table.
SPEAKER_04At no point in time, at no point in time was Kellogg out golfing. Like Kellogg lights.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna go watch some film wink wink.
SPEAKER_01If Mitch Ballock doesn't give me his pullover, I will freak out.
SPEAKER_02They look good tonight. All the coaching staff look good tonight. Doug looked good during his interview.
SPEAKER_04Also, hey, we should mention this. Uh Herdat brand goods. They should get us that pullover.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Alex was here. We could have Alex. Alex was here watching the game with us, Alex Meisenbah. We just uh heard at brand goods.
SPEAKER_02We just keep saying all the things he promised. I just keep looking at him. I'm like, Alex, I need that one.
SPEAKER_04What are you doing?
SPEAKER_02What I need that one.
SPEAKER_01He went to what high school?
SPEAKER_02It was the second best school in this district.
SPEAKER_06Oh, here we go.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's hard to do hard to be top, you know, top three, top two. It's you know, it's a good accomplishment. You know, being second in your in your district.
SPEAKER_04Hey, if you're looking for if you're looking for hey, if you're looking for some creight and apparel, herd at brand goods.
SPEAKER_02Herd at brand goods. Let's start it now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You can also clean it at Max Sai Walker. Here we go.
SPEAKER_04There we go.
SPEAKER_01All right, that's enough of that. All right.
SPEAKER_02Selling our yeah.
SPEAKER_01For fuck's sake, it's like Wayne's clean. It's like Wayne's that Wayne's world where this is.
SPEAKER_04Somebody give us some goddamn money.
SPEAKER_01Somebody give us any fucking money. Uh even Barrett's is like, no. I've heard enough from you guys. My mom's like, dude, I hate your podcast. Okay, fuck you, mom.
SPEAKER_04Hey, what about the Jays tonight?
SPEAKER_01The Jays, so so so notably uh Austin Schwartz not traveling with him, which which we kind of called that. And they say it's an ankle problem. It's not. It's him leaving.
SPEAKER_04No, he's gonna be back next year.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I like this.
SPEAKER_01Go on.
SPEAKER_04Honestly. I I here's my the guys, hey, the guy's coming back. Swartz, McAndrew, Greer, Green, Trout. Five guys right there. Harper? Five guys right there. Notable silence.
SPEAKER_01I disagree.
SPEAKER_04Nah, I don't. I don't I don't think he's gonna be back.
SPEAKER_01Harper?
SPEAKER_04I don't think he's I don't I no, I don't think Harper's gonna be back. I think Swords is gonna be back.
SPEAKER_02I don't hate Swartz coming back.
SPEAKER_01I honestly don't hate anybody coming back. Pete, what do you think?
SPEAKER_05I I I don't have any inside sources, but usually I remember last year from you know when Nebraska made the crown, there's just a lot of talk in between those three weeks. You know, I haven't heard a thing about anybody. You know, I at least thought, you know, I hear, you know, Owen Freeman, hey, we're headed out. Like, oh, he's out there chest bumping Alan Huss right before the game. And it's like I loved it. By the way, loved it. Yeah, that was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_01I will say could you see us not losing anyone? I mean, I think that's fairly.
SPEAKER_04I think it's like I think it's a great I think it's a great question. I I would be sh I would be shocked if the entire roster came back.
SPEAKER_02Would you say Would you imagine Ty's gone?
SPEAKER_04I a 100% Ty Davis is gone.
SPEAKER_01There's no but see to me that's not my insight there. Like I think that he's a coach's son that loves Creighton and he plays for his team.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but he might he might just he might also get the hey this this isn't gonna work out.
SPEAKER_04But he's never ever going to be the starting point guard at Creighton.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But also, he doesn't seem like somebody that just jumps shit. Um and at the same time Austin isn't leaving. Come on.
SPEAKER_04I don't think he's leaving.
SPEAKER_01I think Austin Schwartz is gone.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so if he leaves, is it like a step up? There's a lateral step. Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_04That's the thing.
SPEAKER_05It's that's a great point. You know, like where's what I mean?
SPEAKER_04Maybe somebody's do you have a better do you have a better place to go than Creighton? Right.
SPEAKER_01I I mean in Memphis. Right. Well, in my mind, I would say, do you want to be the stud at Bradley? Maybe. Maybe. Um I think he can be the stud here at Creighton. I mean, he was for a few weeks there.
SPEAKER_02I think where he's I think where he's not good is something that is coachable. Yes. Like I don't know. I think when I see him score, I'm like, I think that is just a God-given talent that you can't necessarily you cannot you cannot teach his mid-range jumper.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you cannot teach that. And I think that thing is that mid-range jumper is amazing. And I think it's almost unguardable.
SPEAKER_02I think you can teach him to be a better defender.
SPEAKER_04You can.
SPEAKER_02And also, I don't know if he plays last year with a better rim protector. Does he does he look like a better defender?
SPEAKER_04I mean, Miami was a joke last year.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like, honestly, like Miami was a terrible program last year. And like you just look, you get the right coach in this year, they make the NCAA tournament. But last year, their coach quit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they had a sitting duck coach.
SPEAKER_04And then they were, and then they were just like, and Austin, he just to me, Austin Swiss. is a guy that just needs coaching. And so when you have a lame duck coach or a non-existent coach, like you're not gonna like you're not gonna get anything from him. Like he he's a guy that like you have to stay on him all the time.
SPEAKER_01But then okay so we're looking at the full roster right now. Somebody almost has to leave. Oh yeah. Yeah. Who will leave?
SPEAKER_04Blake Harper.
SPEAKER_02Blake will probably be gone. I feel like Owen's probably gone.
SPEAKER_04I think Owen's gone.
SPEAKER_02I would be I'd imagine Ty I I think still I think tie I think Ty Davis is gone.
SPEAKER_04Yeah um that's a Bradley that's a Bradley point guard. One of the Valley point guard one of the two between a great a great valley between Karen and Alexa they're gone one of those two is gone and then you lose Josh and only bringing in one right now Jackson will be back. Keep Jackson keep Jason keep Hudson I'd say you've got to keep no if Hudson leaves I'm those I'm out those three those three are the key yeah those three are the key for next year Jason Jackson Hudson those are the those are the three key players for next year.
SPEAKER_01And you have those three you can build around that they went after the uh the Dodge the Dodge Dodge City yeah Dodge City Community College 7-2 Juke see that 7-2 you can't you can't play basketball for like four years or something like that six years maybe you cannot teach 7-2 yeah not yeah and just get that but exactly I mean huge difference well that's that's kind of obviously love winning games in the postseason and we'll play Saturday love we're gonna win the crown continuing to but there's not a doubt in my mind jack we're gonna win the participatory like okay excitement of us trying to like imagine how Huss is gonna build his first roster so I'm excited to see just kind of the you know the the prototype that he's gonna do I mean you everybody watched high point upset like that's the that's the roster like that was Huss's roster yeah like he put that roster together and then he left yeah so I'm excited to see the kind of like what he goes for the prototype the profile that he's gonna to go for once this offseason starts which obviously let's keep winning games let's beat West Virginia they're gonna win the crown there's not a doubt of my mind we're winning the crown that doesn't really matter it does matter Jack we're winning the crown i want I want the crown on Greg's head I'm not saying that I'm just saying I want it at the B up top I want God being we can I think we can get our way in with some hands on the crown trip but uh you know one thing that I liked it was uh Mitch Ballock saying I'm not going anywhere to me and I was like there we go okay so Huss isn't doing major changes in terms of staff um obviously he will have to have a bit catalog leads yes he's just too good he's too good he's an East Coast guy yeah and I'm sure somebody will pay him more yeah whether it's an SEC or ACC or I mean he could be a head coach at in the MIAC you know we all we all could I'm just kidding you want to shoot some hoops that's miak coaches are really good like I'm not I'm not trying to be an asshole like well we it's it's hard it's hard to be a it's hard to be a college basketball coach nowadays especially in the Miyak.
SPEAKER_04I'm like no I wouldn't want to be you're just essentially uh you know like a minor league player you're it's a farm it's a farm it's a farm it's a farm system like you you develop one good player it's a paradox we'll see you later you get a you you coach really well and you develop a player and then you just lose him like Blake Harper's like yeah that was fun but I want to put big east ball and I think he still has things to show so we'll see what Blake does. He's another guy that I think that he does stuff you can't teach yeah he he made some he made some big plays tonight he hit the he hit the three from the top of the key I think that put him up by I want to say like eight yeah uh and then he hit uh he hit an and one basket um he transitioned yeah he does he does a lot of things well and then he does some things that you're just like oh right yeah which I think it was I don't know that I kind of expected that coming into this year.
SPEAKER_05Like I yeah so I I don't know I don't blame him I pretty he's fearless I don't I think he's consistent with how he plays which you know some you get the shitty times but at least you're like well he's not at least he was a guy like so our offense this year would just you know we would hit these stalls of we can't score the ball yeah at least Blake's a guy you can be like okay go just I know it's not within the framework of our offense but we need a basket desperately just don't yeah just don't do the post up from like three point line like literally yeah like as soon as they did that I was like oh my God but Blake was kind of a a wild card oh yeah that sometimes worked out well oh yeah absolutely he's like Charlie he's like Charlie from his old son in Philadelphia wildcard bitches sometimes he blew up the fucking building and cut the brakes on the cut the brakes man yeah but at the same time you know I I think I would want Blake back and I think Hawk you said the same thing I would welcome him back with open arms yeah yeah I think that he can I think he can score very very well and I don't know I think just another year and and it'll obviously be kind of a different look system he kind of next year but like he played it somewhat of continuity.
SPEAKER_04He played exactly what he was sophomoric yeah like yeah like a guy making a a major major major jump yeah yeah and also yeah you can be the player of the year or player of the conference in the worst conference in the nation I just my my thing with him is I I hated the body language yeah like that's what that's what that's what drove me nuts and like we all can sit here and be like it's a major jump from the Miac to the big east and you're gonna struggle and like just it's okay but like his body language was so bad so often and that's that's what drove me nuts and like is that going to change so if that if that's going to change you 100% bring him back.
SPEAKER_02I also think that maybe if he's on a team with uh a point guard a point guard but also but also just like an outspoken leader. Yeah I think that something like that could really help him because I I think this year there was no leader. Yeah like if Josh is really really quiet.
SPEAKER_04Who I mean like who was like Blake get over it.
SPEAKER_05If anybody would do it would be Ty Davis but that also you know when it's coming from Ty who's just kind of a you know rah-rah guy it's right you know sometimes you need your best player to be like look at me yeah like fucking wake up and also and also our best player of the year Jason Green it's not he's not he's not the guy yeah and Josh wasn't like that and neither can Nick didn't necessarily look like that and Trout's not that guy who's like yeah he could I what I'd like Blake to be is and I you know I thought we definitely missed the leader this year but I thought we missed a guy with just an edge like played with an edge yeah Jemiah Neal was an edge guy just a dog I agree just yeah 100% and then even even Ashworth was an edge guy like he as small as he was that put people to sleep it and not to get off topic but you know they talk about I you read a lot on Twitter about you know fan experience the games I only got two get a couple games this year but you know fan experience at the games but then on the flip side like there Steven Ashworth was a dude that could make got make a whole crowd get on their feet by hitting threes and he just turns to the crowd everybody's pumped up like they feed into that um Jamaya Neal just will just his amazing athleticism going in and dunk it just to get a crowd fired up there's so many the two games I went to and even just watching on TV we just it didn't feel like at all this year we had these plays where you're just like who was who was the guy pumping up the crowd right and like like yeah yeah I agree 100% it's a great take Peter is on point here in terms of so Jemiah Neal I love him wish he had one more year.
SPEAKER_04Like him dunking you know and getting into a fist fight with UConn whatever like but also like Ashworth like hitting a three and looking at the crowd like yeah that's a fucking go time we talked about it earlier with uh when they won the share of the big east tournament or the big east and Tyshon hit that three and he literally just walked down the floor and just stared at everybody.
SPEAKER_01Like who called that foul on yeah like who did that foul on like Damian Jefferson.
SPEAKER_02Yeah and he's pumping out of the crowd like yeah yep like who who is doing that for Creighton right now the only the only one that I can really think of that had some kind of fire and stuff like that would be Hudson. Yeah yeah and he obviously is such a reserve role type player with not a ton of minutes but he would be the one guy that I would think like we'd be on a little bit of a run and he right kind of showed some fire.
SPEAKER_01Like we could definitely use like a a a Baylor Shireman type guy where you're like I'm glad that guy's on my on my team because if I was playing against him that dude's a prick like I hate that guy but he didn't have that like the guy's skin you know I always say it who has that shit ass attitude like that's like who has that shit ass attitude and uh great gibbs like great go fuck yourselves and it's so much different than uh like a kind of like a pouty attitude like I feel like Nick Graves would get a little pouty like Nick Graves would get pouty that was uh for a senior that's supposed to be a leader Nick Graves failed us failed us this year he had a great game tonight credit to him but at the same time he failed us I I in terms of you know there'll be a call that goes against him in the first before the media come out with a 16 like yeah but shh but very um but nobody and and josh josh had enough on his plate love josh by the way and he had enough on his plate right see you surround josh digs with the a Shireman a Steven Ashworth a Ryan Calk Brenner like that dude's thrive I mean he had like you said he has a good year I love Josh Dicks it just didn't work out as our for our team this year but you put him who would have had the right guys to allow him to be the quiet stealth like you know he's not under the radar like you josh Josh Dix is not meant to be the guy yeah like the alpha yeah he's not meant to be an alpha even that Stoneman Mormon was pumping people up at the CHI and Ashworth was like let's go let's fucking go you know and and then now and and also with his colleagues with you know Koch Brenner was quiet.
SPEAKER_05Yeah he was that the he was like the uh the dinosaur that only eats vegetables like the like josh Josh Dix was like if you super recent was like a Denzel Mahoney Jemai Neal Jemai Neal like a Denzel Mahoney that's like Jamaica consistent like a raptor like he just like I will eat anything and I will fight and you know he'll do what he has to do to get the crowd pumped up right but then also has like four points in Cincinnati um yeah so then yeah you circle that back to you know we were talking about with the roster and who's coming back who's not and what we need and then we say they've explicitly said we need a big we need a point guard but this year we're stat sheets guys that we got right like I I have to fully admit I drank the blue Kool-Aid all summer when like oh this guy scored this many points this guy scored this many points I sure hope when they're okay however many transfers we're gonna get in whoever it is they don't just look at the stat sheet but the guy that's gonna be what we were just talking about the guy that's gonna get in opponents' faces a little bit guy that's gonna be able to make dynamic plays big rebounds big dunks who is the Damian Jefferson right like who is that's what this team I'm saying this to your face Michael oh my god I think Ty Davis is back no I think he's back shots on the line yeah I I'll I'll bet that yeah you will yeah I don't there's not Ty Davis is the only one I saw in practice that said let's fucking go let's go boys come on like and when you see that kind of tenacity you see a leader and now that he's gonna be a junior my biggest thing is like I don't I know his game's not there but but let it let it keep developing I don't I nowadays I don't think it I don't think it matters yeah I honestly I and I hate it well well Nick Graves just came in and didn't do shit as a senior exactly and you know what hey guess what try again guess what we're doing tonight we're we're celebrating Nick Graves' second half yeah you know like I just I don't it was rutgers dude I knew it was rutgers hey hey trust me I hey I broke this shit down and I'm like rutgers is fucking bad like I don't know like Rutgers is not a good basketball team like they they have zero noteworthy wins their best win was Northwestern I think with Ty the ship has completely sailed I do I think that he he's had his chances I just don't I think it's best for him I think it is a clean he needs to go back to level down he needs to go back he'll be a good player down south to like a Southern mist team yeah shut up southern Alabama yeah the Jags yeah he'd be a good stop yelling at me and I hope it's the first time jax yelled at me in the podcast so it it it just happened I I've said it to but Alyssa we have our we have our baby boy Ty.
SPEAKER_04Yeah I love Ty by the way I am a I'm a big I just Creighton is not the place for Ty Davis.
SPEAKER_01And maybe I'm putting all my chips in that basket like I just think he cares too much which in his games know much but at the same time I've never I I've never seen somebody come to practice and say let's fucking do it yeah they need a leader creating basketball needs a leader Hawk said he's he's probably I think he's gone I think he's gone and there's something different next year it's Jason Green.
SPEAKER_04Something there's a difference between the Elps is green there's a difference between a leader and a cheerleader yeah it like kind of feels like Ty what he's doing is like cheerleading not like leading because I mean I mean we've all we've all played it at a level uh who's the uh and like the the little St. John's player Dylan Darling yeah darling and the random guy that's gonna come up to me and tell me to play hard but you suck at basketball I'm gonna be Dylan Darling basically Dylan Darling away from me Dylan Darling is a better Ty Davis. Why did he take that shot? I don't care no um I mean he's very good at it dude Zuby edge for was wide open why the fuck did Dylan Darling take that shot like I'm sorry so it's a moment I'm sitting there watching this I'm like Zubi's wide open you you you live and die with Zubi taking that shot Dylan Darling you die you die with that shot like I'm sorry I know this is a crazy podcast but I'm sorry everybody's posting like literally if I'm a if I'm the opposing team and I and there's a three that needs to be taken you're like Dylan Darling please take it like you no no no no no not even that you you take it no like no not even that like he had uh Darling had a phenomenal game against Creighton but but he can't shoot but but throughout the season no he was not the one to take the shot yeah he's a he's a terrible shooter but god damn it dude he kept just picking Nick Graves' pocket when we played when I saw him doing the tournament and I was like if Duke if Duke doesn't put Caleb Foster in I know that was unbelievable but also Ruben Prey was just going bananas he's gonna come back and beat all these next Dylan Darling was owning Caden Boozer and then all of a sudden they're like oh you have a broken foot I don't care if you're not good enough to play you're better than Caden Boozer right now.
SPEAKER_01Anyways let's get to this I wanted to ask him sorry this that's on Peter can you give us a breakdown of your favorite games you ever uh tutored that little little sacks.
SPEAKER_05Favorite games okay so number one it was my favorite for about 30 game minutes and then for nine minutes and 58.1 seconds it was not my favorite game no Marquette don't don't no no and then for the final 1.9 hey when Booker Woodfox hits a game winner in St. Louis against Wichita State was absolutely my favorite so that was my sophomore year toot my let's go Booker Woodfox 1.9 uh but I remember being there in St. Louis I was a sophomore game we're so we're bubble team at that point because we're mid major but We had won, I think, our last 15 in a row that season, or like 15 or 16. It was something great. We were up to 27 wins, and you're like, okay, like we just need what feels like one more win.
SPEAKER_01Uh uh, forgive me. When did you have always Altman?
SPEAKER_05No, so I went Altman first three, and then my last year was McDermott's first year. Oh, yeah. Doug's freshman year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So we should have say winner. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely wild. And then he yeah, we got and then they came back.
SPEAKER_04So this is a so it's a real so this is a really good story. So I'm I'm golfing with Darren DeVries. And we're we're talking and I'm like, what's your like, what are your favorite games as a creating coach? Because I was like, I love Darren DeVries so much, and I was super, it was super weird trying to talk to him. I'm like, I don't even know. I'm like, I don't even know what I'm like, I'm like, I don't even know what to say to him. And he was like, he was telling me these things, so I was like, you know what one of my favorite was? It's when like Booker Wood Fox hit that game when he shot, and he goes, No, that was one of my least favorite because we were up by like 22 points to that. We were up, and I'm like, yeah, that's a coach. And then we went, we went, we ran like I'm like, I'm like, that's a coach. He's like, hey, why don't you drive the ball, you idiot? Man, whatever. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02You psycho.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, that was definitely, definitely.
SPEAKER_01I did right into the shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I was like, hey, D-Rock, check this shit out.
SPEAKER_01I watched this track right into the fucking river.
SPEAKER_04I hit it into the I hit it into the houses. I was like, yeah, deal with that, D-Rock.
SPEAKER_01But Peter, so number one, that was.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, definitely. The only downside then came back, laid an absolute egg to Illinois State. Oh, Cyber Seldge, Champagucci. Dude, they got their asses kicked the next day.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was like it was so bad.
SPEAKER_02And then it was perfectly Creighton.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was like so perfectly so we were in St.
SPEAKER_05Louis, everybody's on this high from winning the game. We go back, you know, we're just hanging out in the hotel, got ESPN in the background. All you hear is Creighton's in the first four, the last four in, last four in, and then we go and get rolled, and then you go back to a hotel and you're like, That's where Creighton's on the first four out, and you're like, oh my gosh. But yeah, it was, and we didn't make it that year. We didn't make it.
SPEAKER_01So that was the year that the Valley had four teams in.
SPEAKER_05Right? That's a good, I honestly can't remember.
SPEAKER_02I thought that was a few years earlier. I think it might have been a few years earlier, yeah. Okay, but but it was definitely back when it the valley was a multi-bid league for yeah, like like the Valley.
SPEAKER_01Craig was in the Valley. I remember uh missing out. We we're like a one seed in the NIT. That that was that was uh Illinois, yeah, like Illinois State, Bradley, and Northern Illinois or Missouri State, or like four teams made it. Four a four bid league.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I do remember that what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01And it was like what happened to March Madness? Oh because now the Mountain West can't get too much.
SPEAKER_05So I got I got pretty fed up that year. So we went, yes, we we had laid an absolute egg in that last game, but we were if I want to remember right, we were either 27 and 6, 27 and 7. Like absolutely again, we'll won our last 15 of 16, and the team that beat us out was Arizona. They were 19 and 12. I went or 19 and 14, I think. They had lost their last. I still I'll never forget. I tell people this whoever listened, they lost their last five of six going into their going through their conference tournament, only won 19 games, and they got in as a 12 seed. And then what made it look worse is they beat Utah, an overrated five-seed pre-pack 12 Utah, by the way. A 12-5. And then they got a 13-seed Cleveland State in the round of uh 32 because Cleveland State beat Wake Forest in the opening 13-4 match. And so Arizona's like, oh, that was a great pick. They didn't deserve to be there. Like we did. Should have been honest. We did. Oh man, I'm so fired up about that 17 years later.
SPEAKER_01What is that like Missouri State was a I love the fact they're holding on to grudges.
SPEAKER_04Oh, so I'm so mad about that. It's just amazing.
SPEAKER_02I'm so mad about the back-to-back years that we got an eight and a nine. Fuck. Oh, the North Carolina year and then Duke the year after. Yeah. That was that's rough. Give us at least a fucking seven. I thought we could have. Or even a ten. Yeah. But just the eight, nine back to back. It was like, fuck you, fuckers.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_02And then also fuck North Carolina fans, because they still think that that Ethan Roggi thing was more egregious than it really was. I I kind of I pull that up every once in a while. I'll just be like, am I remembering it? Yeah. You know, kind of through rose colors. It's just a normal fight.
SPEAKER_05It's the Grant Gibbs foul, right?
SPEAKER_02Uh well, the Ethan Roggi one. And then Grant Gibbs swiped at the end.
SPEAKER_04That's but that guy ended up the Gibbs had gotten Hansen already had a broken.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05I thought I thought that's what okay.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, but Marcus was it Marcus Page? Kendall Marshall. The Kendall Marshall. Kendall Marshall ended up like just a unfortunate he got. Roggi was just defending and he fell on the I mean here's the thing.
SPEAKER_04Ethan Raggy was never good at defense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He flew by him. It's odd that he did something. Like, come on now.
SPEAKER_01We always go back to that line of the game where he's just draining threes. You better call a timeout, Jay, right? Yeah, he's better called timeout. Bill Raperty just losing his mind.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It's comical.
SPEAKER_01This is comical at this point. Yeah. And it's like well. Ethan Rocky is actually. I'm gonna say it. I'm gonna say it. Not that good.
SPEAKER_02He was like very good at shooting in. Amazing. That was it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah, yeah. I mean, because it's funny because the game's on, it's on. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because the game before that, him and Doug were like oh of like 12 shooting. Like they were so bad. Like they at Providence, they were awful.
SPEAKER_02Oh god, Cooley. Those teams just had our fucking number. Just run flex off. I was saying nothing like going to college basketball and watch a flex. A tight flex, by the way. Yeah, yeah. From the free throw to block. What are we doing here?
SPEAKER_04Does he make it Cooley? After this year? I don't know. I mean, they're everybody every question. Everybody's leaving Georgetown. KJ Lewis, Malik Mack, like they're all leaving.
SPEAKER_02It's like at some point, you got those Providence years are just getting further and further behind you. He's just not maybe not a good coach at Georgetown. And maybe Georgetown is just dead. Also, also like I thought that I thought Ed would get it going at least a little bit. I was like, fuck, Georgetown's gonna be so good.
SPEAKER_01Well, I thought it was good a good hire. Yeah. Um, but at the same time, I now we're watching it kind of dissolve. And you can see at the Capital One center that it's literally there's empty.
SPEAKER_02There's no there's no care.
SPEAKER_01The boosters don't care. No. And they're they're losing the confidence in Ed Cooley.
SPEAKER_02Um who do they get? Is that still con would you you know, say it opens up? Is that even is that would would that be considered a I think so you it's still a fucking sleeping giant.
SPEAKER_04I think that's why we're all like, dude, Ed Cooley going to Georgetown, good night.
SPEAKER_01Like they're gonna be Well, you know, the thing is he's from Providence. He was raised in Providence.
SPEAKER_02Gets a retreat, jumps in a pool, you know, like you know, you know, and maybe he has been sabotaging Georgetown for the sake of Providence.
SPEAKER_01You had something really special.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was truly a lose-lose.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, now looking on lose-lose is especially because now what you hear about Providence with their NIL package is massive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they got they're up there. You know, they care, they got money. Oh, yeah. Their students are the biggest assholes I've ever met.
SPEAKER_04But how? How does fucking Providence have money?
SPEAKER_05I don't know. My mid my Midwest mind just can't wrap my mind, can't wrap my mind around it. Right, Providence, Rhode Island, yeah, can jog across the state, right?
SPEAKER_04And and and we're and we're like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_01You could be in Massachusetts or Connecticut in a minute.
SPEAKER_05You could be like going here out to 204th and Dodge. I mean, it's you're in a whole nother state.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's funny because they're probably Providence, probably like Omaha. What do they care about basketball?
SPEAKER_01Oh, we care quite a bit. Right. Um But also, we have to understand that we're falling behind, I think. Yes. Um NIL is beating the bricks out of Creighton. Right. I kind of thought that. I think Alan House Alan House is inheriting a dangerous situation unless Warren Buffett wants to.
SPEAKER_02No, I keep thinking that that might be just blown out of proportion a little bit. Yeah. I also thought that the revenue sharing thing kind of would help us. I can't.
SPEAKER_04Rumor has it that there's a uh Creighton alum that owns the Lakers and the Dodgers.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, what the hell is his deal?
SPEAKER_02Give us a million. Like you're a billionaire. Or like one center.
SPEAKER_04You are paying for Shohei Atani and Luka Todditch. So, like sponsor a one player a year.
SPEAKER_02Sponsor one transfer portal target a year. One.
SPEAKER_01Just give him the pro hope was a little sneaky, uh little sneak money. Damn.
SPEAKER_02Well, the thing is, he's he's starting to get worried about that. That Shohei deferred contract is coming up. It's coming up soon. He's like, shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's like can I uh this yeah. Because we've only won the last like nine World Series for the next my life. Like he's kind of doing uh what uh July 1st. Um pushing it, kicking it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you got a Bob Hipponia. Second, second reference. I mean I mean he lives the life. Could you imagine?
SPEAKER_05Can we start offering our N L I money, N I L money over like 15, 20 years? Yeah, we're gonna pay you five million to be here, but you're only gonna make$200,000 a year for the next however many years. Like, is that okay with you? Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_06I mean, actually, Jack, you know enough people Jack, you know enough people holy cross.
SPEAKER_04I know our Lady Lords.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, guess what, buddy? We are as poor as OLL. We're a bunch of South O fucking idiots that try to make it happen. Sometimes you get one Olympian. We try really hard. You get one Olympian.
SPEAKER_04Dylan Travis.
SPEAKER_01If you're listening, you get one Olympian every five decades. Cool. Cool screen. Uh go follow it.
SPEAKER_02I'm very interested in the deferred NIL par payments now.
SPEAKER_05That's real. Is that legally binding?
SPEAKER_02Can we do this?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like 15 years later, NIL is gonna be like, what were we?
SPEAKER_05Your NIL is a few shares of Berkshire A. Yeah, yeah. Like, is that okay with you? All right, cool. Have you ever heard of passive income?
SPEAKER_01My grandfather uh bought my mother, uh, I shouldn't say this. Yeah, one round of field club. So Berkshire B back in 1980. We're doing quite well.
SPEAKER_02The greatest thing you can invest in is your future. That's right. Is Coca-Cola we're already off with a 25-year contract?
SPEAKER_05It's it's an investment. You don't get all the money now.
SPEAKER_02Invest in yourself. That's right.
SPEAKER_01I just all we can do is uh sponsor uh a hole at the Holy Cross Open field club. That's the best we can do. Best we can do.
SPEAKER_04What about our Lady of Lords? Will you sponsor one?
SPEAKER_01Go fuck yourself. Uh go Falcons. Go Falcons. Go prep. Fuck Mont Michael. Jesus. Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_04It's holy week, man.
SPEAKER_01It is holy Thursday. Well, that's Good Friday. Fuck.
SPEAKER_04We're at Good Friday now. Yeah, we are.
SPEAKER_01It's true. Yeah. Nail me to some fucking wood and say we had to do it. Pilot said, yeah. I don't know. Fuck this. Fucking nail him to some wood.
SPEAKER_04That's what they said. That's what they said in the Bible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I guess we have to eat fish today. Ooh.
SPEAKER_02Are we gonna win on Saturday?
SPEAKER_01Fuck yeah, we are. It's West Virginia, right? West Virginia. West Virginia. So Derry DeVries.
SPEAKER_04God, if only if it was D-Rock, man, that would be perfect.
SPEAKER_01Is D-Rock is that his team?
SPEAKER_04No. No, a lot of those guys left. Yeah. So West Virginia, they all left. Indiana, they all left.
SPEAKER_01I remember uh going to uh Quinton basketball camp and D Rock is uh D Rock was like, Karen, how are ya my mom? And I met Tucker, who is like five four years old, little guy, and I'm like, hey, how are you? Do you know that you're about to be the best player in college basketball?
SPEAKER_05You're talking to me? No, no.
SPEAKER_01He's like, hey, I believe in you, kid. I love you.
SPEAKER_02Talk about somebody you should have invested in. Just yeah. That's what we should. That's the business we gotta get in. You start scouting grade school basketball games.
SPEAKER_04Five dollars to get a cut of NIL. I think it's five dollars and there's a pretty good fourth grade at Our Lady Awards. There we go. Now we're talking. You might want to invest.
SPEAKER_02Start offering contracts. How about you get a fucking wooden floor?
SPEAKER_01No more tile. What the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_04Uh but home court advantage.
SPEAKER_01That's right. Dylan Travis showed up in our fourth quarter. We were down to OLL. And we were down like 14. We won by 14. Let's go.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there's there's literally zero doubt in my mind. All of a sudden he shows up.
SPEAKER_01Dylan Travis put like pulled his like premiere um jersey off, throws it on the ground, throws his Falcon shirt on. And he's like, and the oh because he's like, what the fuck is this? All of a sudden he's like ball now. And just three, three, three, and like screaming at me like, hey, Jack, you fat ass. Like play defense and I will win the game. And I was like, yes, sir. Yes, sir. Let's go. But um Peter, what's your second favorite game?
SPEAKER_05That's tough. Playing the favor game. Pet man. Man.
SPEAKER_02You said you went Ofer for the tournament.
SPEAKER_05I went Ofer. Yep. So my senior high school, Dana left, did his wood pig sue, came right back, and then me and uh featured guest on in Las Vegas tonight, P. Alan Stannett. Good to see his face again. We both were fresh at the same time. I will say I did see. Do you remember his poster eyes of Shang Ping from Nebraska? That would that was his name. We did see that one in person. We were trying to remember his name earlier. It's like we've never seen a Kraton guy. I I I was too young to remember the Rodney Beaufer days, so I don't remember all that dunking. So then there was a stretch where we didn't dunk much.
SPEAKER_01And then like this here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, saw that live. I will say, I know this was a loss, but I remember when Kentucky came to town for the NIT and the fans that were there, it was like standing the whole game. I've never seen that happen.
SPEAKER_04It's one of my favorite games of the week.
SPEAKER_02We were well, Jodie Meeks was such a Jody Meeks.
SPEAKER_04Like he was such a Patrick Patterson.
SPEAKER_02All of a sudden, I don't know. Kentucky coming to town was such a buzz.
SPEAKER_04Like it was so fun. Like P. Allen was so fucking good that game. And then the last possession, all of a sudden, he decides to like look to the side for the screen. And Jody Meeks goes right by him. And we were like, what the fuck are you doing? Like you've been amazing the entire game. Then all of a sudden he's like, he looks away, and I was like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_05Caleb Corver stuff somebody at the roof. And then we're like, what is happening right now? These guys are clearly more athletic than us, but we are somehow And you had like the true Creighton fans at that game. Yeah, it was about seven or eight thousand strong, but they everybody stood.
SPEAKER_04It was I don't I yeah, I don't remember sitting the entire fucking game.
SPEAKER_02Like that was I remember starting that game in the upper bowl and working my way down to the lower bowl slowly. The migration kind of all happened. That was so much fun.
SPEAKER_01Oh how about the uh the changeover of uh Dana versus um Greg in the CBI? They didn't have a half chord guy and uh is that Arthur Chapman and Antoine Young. He's going down. Yeah, we played over that line that did over it back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05We got game one at home, and then yeah, did we drop two in a row on the road?
SPEAKER_02Did you play in the Civic Center when we were playing?
SPEAKER_05Junior year played in the back of the Civic Auditorium. South Dakota came to town. I can't remember who the other one was, but yeah, was there for South Dakota. I mean, that Civic. So my freshman and sophomore year, uh, volleyball played in the Civic, and they played on the old basketball court, and I mean that thing was like taped together. It was it was rough going. It was the Civic was I mean, it had an aura about it, don't get me wrong, but man, and so then we went my junior year, the Ryan Center opened up, so we weren't there, and then you know, obviously down at the back when it was the quest, but then they're like, hey, we're in the CBI or the CIT, and we're not gonna go down to the Quest. We're going to the civic auditorium. Like some we sent it out with the bang.
SPEAKER_01Some some sort of like uh like country concert was happening. Well, we didn't quit this.
SPEAKER_05That was the first. I think that broke the streak. That year broke the streak of 21. I think we went we had gone so long with 20 wins, and then that you it was just a rough year. We were you know, we compete in games, and then uh I remember once we're playing Southern Illinois, it wasn't great at home, and Chad Millard almost threw down with a couple of Southern Illinois guys, and that was like the highlight of the game, and it's like uh that's the highlight of the game. It was it was and I'll never forget this. So I mean, if you want to listen to a story, so for Pep Man, my junior junior year, it was it was rough. So women had a game on Thursday night at home. It was their senior night. So they're like, usually we would have gone down a day early, been in St. Louis a day early, but they're like, no, we want people at the women's game. We're like, fine. So we played in a women's game, women's game with Blue Crew, Dan Seymour, all there. We hopped on a bus in Omaha probably around 9:30, 10 p.m. Road it to St. Louis overnight. They had us get off the bus at about 5 a.m. to play at a morning show. It was about 30 degrees outside. Went to the hotel, got a little rest, and then went to our afternoon game, and then remember Sam Menascalko for Bradley Porch dice. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04An asshole.
SPEAKER_05We were done in St. Louis. We spent the night and then we hopped on the bus and we went back home. It was the worst 36, 36 hours, man. It was rough. We were on the road most of the time. That was junior year. I mean, I love Altman. It was just it was it was a good parting both ways.
SPEAKER_01You're just making sure your reed is wet. That's yeah. Ready to go. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05It was it was a rough stretch. That, yeah. So and then Greg came, and then we were playing an exhibition game, and this skinny little dude starts the game. You're like, oh, that's that's Doug McDermott. Why is he starting the game? And he does these post moves that are a little awkward around the basket. God dang, that ball's going in the basket. And yeah, the rest was history, dang. Like I 30 then the legend started. Yeah. He was he was goofy when he first started. It just it wasn't. I mean, he was a fundamentally sound shooter, but he's just kind of awkward around the rim. And but the ball went in. The ball went in. It was crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, such a good touch. Oh, and you know, I wish he had a better NBA career.
SPEAKER_05Um, you know, when you got sit up with Tom Thibodeau to start off, where you know it doesn't like playing, Tom Thibodeau just a fucking idiot.
SPEAKER_04Uh he really is. He had a rough start. If you're on that roster, yeah.
SPEAKER_05If he would have started in a more offensive-centric style of play that would play rookies, he thought he would have done okay.
SPEAKER_04When Kyle Shire been at Joe Mazzo's offense, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, when Kyle Corver retired, I just kind of was like, he would be a perfect guy to just follow LeBron around. I always say that's just a spot up shooter for LeBron. Just kind of attach yourself to it.
SPEAKER_01What Alan Iverson said the best shooter I've ever played with is Kyle Corver. Yeah. And that's like what? My Tombo, Eric Snow, him, and Kyle Corver. Just like the 76ers. Philadelphia. Welcome to the show.
